Thunderstorms are what I miss most about leaving Florida, I have to supplement with videos like this to keep me sane. Central Florida had so many thunderstorms, I miss living in Lakeland so much. When I come back I'm thinking of going to Tampa or Winter Haven, I've lived in both places, but Lakeland had the most intense thunderheads of anywhere I've lived.
Exactly 9 years ago today, 6/1/11...up here in southern RI...9am..EDT...a pop up loud Tstorm got audiotaped and videotape with HUGE thunderclaps....video is also on UA-cam.....in my using 2 camcorders....the Tstorm really made me feel oh-so much better after my losing my mother 13 days earlier.... Same day...same day....Springfield MA was hit by a major F3 tornado also on 6/1/11.....I also had thunder on this date in other years...such as on 6/1/85...from exactly 35 years ago today((I am sure you and all other commenters HERE were ---not--- even born THEN)))...brought me a 4am incredible lightning display form the same system that caused a major MidWest tornado outbreak....the very day before....on 5/31/85....Anyways....from right where you live and capture the awesomed Tstorm activity...including the nice scene from your poolside lanai....parts of central and southern FLA gets over 90 Tstorm days per year...compared to only 20 such Tstorm days from where I live..and this year, 2020..I only had one decent Tstorm so far...back on 3/29/20....((Video is on UA-cam..))....
Good to hear, Camilla..here right on my own birthday today....2/15th.... Anyways...my UA-cam-channel which is very easily mouseclickable here via thumbnail pix of the tornadic-like cloud.....I do have some big Tstorms...dating way back to 7/28/89.... easily accessible by a mouseclick...You may have been getting early-season Tstorms down in FLA..due to the warm muggy airmass over FLA being conflicted with the deep deep freeze POV-airmass covering much of the USA....with deep snow and deep freeze over TEXAS... Anyways...albeit southern RI get only 20 Tstorm days per year...I can still get some real duzies..like on 7/28/89, 8/4/95, and more recently.... 7/13/17((that one..the 12-minute video... I got an extremely closeby CG-lightning strike with an instantaneous thundercrash..a real must see....video...it is easily available on my channel here... ))) Anyways..TYSVM for the nice comment-reply..fondly...James, AccuJamsoan.
TYSVVVM Connie for the kind birthday wishes.....as I am now ''eight squared''' heeeheee.... but thankfully..I do not feel it since I have abstained from alcohol, tobacco and drugs....as for my birthday yesterday....I stayed home..worked on my comics while my listening to audio--from--video UA-camd-Tstorm uploads...some real duzies too...aaahhhh yiehsss.....even my own audiotaped-Tstorm-tapings.... Anyways....I have a slight thunder chance for my area today, TUEs 2/16/21....as I did have thunder here in southern RI on 2/16..in 1993 and in 2005.... on 2/18/98..I had 4 hours of early,-morning thunder..from a very strong El Nino winter that we had back then...... BTW..TYSVVVVM for subbing to my UA-cam channel...much appreciated..Fondly..James, AccuJamsoan.
Born in early 80s, so yes, I was alive in 85 :) I remember some of that year, too! Love thunderstorms, though at one time I was pretty freaked out by them, and by hurricanes. Now I miss thunderstorms. We used to get them where I live now, but they keep missing us the last several years. It's sad.
Absolutely amazing storm! No wonder Florida is known as the Thunderstorm capital of the world! I'm from the UK and remember going on holiday back in 1998 to Orlando, and witnessing a few thunderstorms out there in the 2 weeks... we watched an amazing storm at Epcot at the time. I'd love to move to Florida one day, love a good thunderstorm. Sadly here in the UK we get thunderstorms, but rarely as impressive as this, though 2 years ago we did have 4 massively thunder strikes like bombs going off like at 29:58 in the video one which struck a house roof up the road from us.
you wouldnt want to come to florida, trust me. there are so many cockroaches here its insane. its always humid. its always raining. not a good place really
@@ovendestroyer Always raining?? Always?? No actually, it's clear and warm about 85% of the year, the other 15% are afternoon storms that take up about 30 minutes of your day. Quit exaggerating. As for the cockroaches, if you leave a dirty kitchen then they'll invade, if not you'll hardly ever see one. A dirty kitchen is a product of a lazy, disgusting person. And yes, it's humid, so what. Without it, Florida would be a barren desert. It's a great place......and it's RED.
The double strike, both in proximity and short time, is really unique to catch on video. Really like that! Btw, this is Kandy8 from the WxChallenge. You're a great competitor, and I'm glad we share trophies from Columbia :D
Awesome to hear from you, I'm JC2498. I've definitely seen your name and you're VERY GOOD. Moving on to grad school at the University of OK now so I'll definitely be continuing.
@@JasonChiappaStorms congrats! I'm entering senior year undergrad, and am planning to continue to grad school thereafter as well. The school I'm looking at has never entered the wxchallenge though, so I need to do some work apparently lol

28:08 Both of those huge claps of thunder sounded like gunshots from The Terminator's 12 Gauge Auto Loader aka SPAS-12, which is Italian and you can go pump or auto.
Excellent Video! Ty for sharing it to bring attention to the damage and beach erosion that these storms bring. My beach in Jupiter Florida is almost all underwater rocks on the shoreline nowadays because of the climate crisis we're experiencing. I've loved that beach for nearly 70yrs and now it's practically gone 😥
That at 28:08 who ever said lighting don't strike twice in the same spot ..uhh sure not quit Florida here but Alabama we get some pretty bad storms and not to mention tornadoes eek!!!
No it's a cheap AcuRite, which unfortunately reports temperatures way too warm when in the sun, but otherwise it should be online for Isaias tomorrow as long as power is on. www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KFLSEBAS35 I suppose it should act as a Faraday Cage but not sure if that's what it's designed to do, mostly just support for the screens of the lanai.
31:34 did the lightning actually strike the cage? You could hear a clicking sound and it appeared lightning was right over the top, but no loud thunder immediately.

1/30s at 30p with auto aperture and 200 ISO for this video. 1/30s is the minimum on my camera for auto aperture, but I typically go for 1/10-1/25 for capturing lightning on video. Depends on the type of lightning. Some still show up great at 1/30s, but quick negative strokes will need slower speeds.
@@westernncstormwatching3531 I just play around and experiment with it honestly and it depends on the ambient lighting as well. If you want to extract stills from your video, go as slow as you can without making the bolts (or ambient light) overexposed, so depends on daylight and how bright the lightning is. It is tricky.
@@westernncstormwatching3531 I only go that slow for time-lapses at night (speeding up the video), but if you can keep it from overexposing with brighter lightning or ambient light, then you'll get some good stills. Doesn't hurt to try!
Now that’s what a proper thunderstorm sounds like...

At least you don't live in California. It's March 20th, 2022 and it's only rained twice. Summer doesn't get rain at all or rarely gets it.
