You give excellent interviews, Mr. Austin. You ain't beatin' around the bush which makes for a dope interview through and through. I feel you on goin' to New York. The first time I went, I was a lil' nervous. I'm from the West Coast so it's just a different world. I went to visit family on my dad's side. It was such a trip to hear folks speak. They were speakin' like Nas and them. My dad was like _Gone and talk to yo' cousins. Ain't nobody gon bite you._ Anyway, enough about me. Dang, they really did want Monica to be the next Whitney Houston. Labels back then didn't understand what that truly was. Those were big shoes to fill. _Cain't_ nobody sing like Whitney, much less be like her. Monica was way too young to be in perfect and in ball gowns. I _cain't_ wait to hear Illegal stories. I loved them. Oooh, I really hope y'all touched on Kris Kross. I know that's Mr. Jermaine Dupri's group, but I'm just dying to know *what happened.* My theory is that they got older and the label simply decided to move on. Perhaps they couldn't compete w/ _No Limit,_ _Bad Boy_ and _Death Row._ I was feelin' they last album, but for them to just disappear w/o an explanation was sorta devastating.

It’s better when Vlad lets the interviewers speak. This is fantastic, it shows you how shady record labels are.
Dallas had a budget of 1 million a year for his label, and yet, they pay the artist around 3 cents and album.
    Shady ass business!
And LA, going behind Babyface back like that was some low down shit.....that’s why Babyface probably DID fuck Pebbles!

He's a producer how business savvy do you expect him to be? He's on the creative spectrum of the music industry. People that run the business spectrum of the music industry usually are the least creative people there is.
It's easy to talk about what somebody should have done with their record company, 20 years later. It's common knowledge these days, back then not so much.
The few artists who were really business-savvy was Michael Jackson, Prince, and James Brown. And they're all dead, or were killed.

Creative or not it's his responsibility to learn the business side to protect his own interests. The "hey $1,500 was a lot of money to me" mentality just wasn't very smart. Maybe he should have stayed in school and learned the business, like Prince did.
There were and probably ARE many artists who are also astute business people. Tyler Perry, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles,, Maurice White, Berry Gordy (he was a songwriter), Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Deniece Williams, Jay-Z, Dr Dre, Ice Cube, L.A. Reid, just to name a few. Unlike you I won't pretend to know them all and they're not all dead.
