in general for myself, it almost always comes down to I've not held my position/moved (it can also be due to poor swing sequencing but for me not normally). When I do this i find not only Fat/Chunk/Thin shots but also inconsistent distance and target line control. It is important that whatever drill works for you try to return to a constant/repeatable dynamic posture throughout your personnel swing. I'm not saying become ridgid. I think there is some artistic license in most everyone's personnel swing and this is why there is not only one way to good. Also in the end your body will need to learn this as you can not have many swing thoughts is needs to eventually become natural for your own swing. Michele is close to my personnel swing mechanics so very helpful. I think my last comment is that drills typically "exaggerate" the feeling such that you start to retrain some of the poor mechanics I've adopted. At some point we need to have achieved this retrained dynamic form and retain it through successful striking. Nice video, thank you

I really notice a big drop in distance if I hit the ground even slightly in the simulator. We’re now playing indoors at X-Golf (simulator) as we’re expecting our first snow here in Chicago TODAY ❄️ 🙄
I think I’ll try these in reverse order:
First: keep head over alignment stick
Next: focus on a spot in front of ball
    Then: Step forward drill 👍🏻

Duff; AKA "sending a Beaver Pelt". Just the mention of Ball position and how to "Aim" (moving around the ball) is worthy of Subscribing... Amen. How many shots I've hit...then lay a club at my feet and only then do I realize....I hit that ball to where my set up was aimed...Not where I thought I was aiming. I'm certain, many a shot have bladed or I sent a beaver pelt because I was out of alignment from the onset....Your example of moving and repositioning the ball for a 3w is a huge eye opener. You exposed exactly what I do
The Duff shot usually results in the turf going further than the ball...or you have a lunch of dirty in your mouth ... Don't as me how I know... 🥴

Two things I’ve observed contributing to duffing:
    1) As any golfer why they swing as they do, often poorly and they will answer “Well that’s how I think a swing is supposed to work!” But recreational golfers don’t really have a clue where the body and club should be at the moment the ball releases off the club or where lead arm, hands and club should swing next because they are not shown that and told getting there in every swing is the goal. They are taught how to stand at address and where they need to be at the top but not posed in the impact / release position. I find starting someone there and reverse engineering the swing back from impact to the top solves all the myriad swing problems they had previously because when the conscious brain as a plan with is practiced via repetition the subconscious brain will execute it.
    2) In the 1970s conventional wisdom for foot placement and swing finish changed from flaring the front foot as Hogan and others in his era did and counter-falling straight back opposite the angle of the foot in the finish to counter the club pulling forward to squaring the front foot and rolling over on the outside of it in the finish with the back arched. Recreational golfers today all seem to square their front foot but not know to roll over on the outside of it. Due to the lack of rolling over action their hips wind up stuck and “blocked” point to the right in their finish instead releasing and turning square to target. As a result their lead arm and club whip around their bodies causing the trail arm to bend at elbows almost immediately after impact. They never learn to allow the trail arm to extend allowing it to arrest the momentum of the club and cause it to pull the trail arm straight and allow club force to hinge club at wrist before bending the trail arm. They finish badly off balance and their subconscious brains knowing from experience there will be a balance problem stemming from the failure to release the hips will decelerate the club through impact.
As a older golfer I find it much easier to square hips with a flared foot and so has everyone over the age of 30 I’ve show that Hogan technique to as also and it immediately eliminates their blocked hips problem. Later after they understand the need to get hips square in the finish they can go back to flaring the foot less to the point of squaring it and rolling over on the outside like most tour pros do today. But even some of the tour pros have changed to the Hogan style flared foot technique because it creates much less strain on back and fragile bone (5th metatarsal) on the outside of the foot. If I show a golfer how to flare foot and extend the club in the finish by holding it there for them and like posing them in the impact position they get a conscious plan their subconscious brain will start to repeat automatically after a coaching them through a few slow motion swings with the new movements. Their downswings improve because they no longer feel the failure of the hips swinging the club around their bodies and no longer fall off balance in their finish.
