There was one big change though. I noticed my grip started to get more counteractive. It was like my right and left hand were wringing the clubs neck and working against each other, creating a lot of tension.
I used the Callaway Swing Easy a few times before this and noticed how stress free and relaxed my stroke was, so when Michele showed me the new grip, it was an easy switch for me!

I really liked the putting with palms facing out grip. That takes my wrist out of play immediately. I am a pretty good putter but when I missed, it’s from the wrist movement. Thanks Michelle and Matt.

This is, by far, the best tip/lesson I’ve ever seen on putting. I watched the video on 2/19/21 and decided to switch my putting grip and stroke like she presented it, but with a little more open stance. Next day I played and I tried her technique on the practice green for 15 minutes and immediately saw progress. I normally finish a round with around 33 putts (I’m a 20 handicap). In this round I hit 28 putts with no 3 puts, 2 holed from the fringe at 8 and 18 feet, and a few very close ones! Thanks!

Aloha from Hawaii!! Playa I tried looking back for your very first videos where you told us to look at the hole when making your practice strokes, I swear you said that before! And I remember you told us to always keep your head down and listen for the sound of the ball going in the cup.
Now watching this video and hearing your explanation of why you're where you're at now, more so I'm like "Man, this Playa had it from the beginning!"
I'm stoked I got in on the ground level with you chief. Applying the principles you taught from the first videos, plus your generously sharing what you've been learning from the pros, has led to me breaking 100 for the first time ever. Unreal!

As usual you address the basic fundamentals so well, Michele: elbows tucked in to ensure shoulder movement; ball under left eye & top the ball (hitting above equator) to prevent skidding of the ball; handle above the ball. Excellent! Stay safe, Pro

I have been having lessons with a specialist putting coach (national team level coach) and I have to say that some of the things you have talked about are also the same way that I thought of putting. The 2 main ones (fundamentals) were the need to accelerate through the ball and also to follow through double the distance.... boy was i surprised to find out that this most basic of ingrained fact is actually wrong! I know it's strong words but it's been proven to me on SAM putt lab stats time and again. He now has me taking the putter back further (and faster) and have the 'feeling' of dropping the club on the back of the ball - but actually with a constant speed. Matt, this has blown my mind bro. He has taken my hands and wrists out of it. I also have the shaft vertical (no forward press). I rock from the shoulders now with an arc and the strikes are just amazing, it's as big a deal and mind opening revelation as when you get proper strike in the main swing. There is more than one way to skin a cat and when you watch Nicklaus putting in the 70's he is clearly an effective putter and not doing this but once you feel it you will never ever go back.

just had a putting lesson with the pro at my club... he told me the exact same things mentioned in this video, especially about setup, tucked ellbows and ball position. In addition he told me to use the line on the ball only to setup the putter behind the ball, but not to recognize it when hitting the ball, but instead focus on the inch of grass between ball and putter. Just have confidence in your line and hit it afterwards.

I’ve broken 80 twice since I started watching (for the first time this season, after months of frustration), and now I actually hear the tuba in my mind before I hit a shot that I shouldn’t be trying. Helped me as I was unsure of where my hands should sit on a new Putter I had last season, thought it may have been the grip.
So was so great to see the Palms facing out tip.
One thing I do is if I am not Putting well is to walk away from any holes and just work on Rhythm and making sure the ball is rolling true, usually I place a line on the ball to give me a visual.
I was once had a nice comment from one of the Top best Golfers, that he admired how smooth my putting stroke was, and I can’t deny I was also pleased with it.
Also I find the best Putters don’t look up until the ball as at least rolled a few feet after stroking it, and concentrating on the final part of the roll in case they need to see the line for their next

Float your golf balls in salt water(it takes a lot of salt) once you get the ball floating, lightly spin it and when it stops, the lightest part of the ball is pointing up. Carefully pick it up and put a sharpie dot on the dimple sticking out of the water nearest to center. Put another on the opposite side that will be the heaviest. I use two colors of sharpies. Then when I putt I’m putting lightest to heaviest end over end to aid in the ball rolling truer. I find it really helps especially on longer putts. Try it helped me.

That bit with the elbows in and palms out is genius. Not seen that before and it really simplifies for me the idea of staying connected & rocking the shoulders. I haven't bought into putting the skinny line on the ball as I visualize a wide line for my putts but I like to use the newer TP5 pix balls as they have that wide channel among the graphics that basically does the same thing. Great stuff Baus!

After having golfed for almost 40 years, I have figured out a lot of what Michelle said simply by trial and error, mostly error. My biggest takeaway is to time myself and establish the most consistent rhythm possible. Maybe this next season (it's winter now with snow on the ground) I'll be able to get close to 5 hcp since I waste most shots on the green.

What's up Matty! All these tips are great but might I suggest using something to actually get feedback when practicing solo. Blast Motion makes a sensor that attaches to your putter grip end and it gives tons of info on not only putting but swinging as well. The two key measurements that help a ton are the ratio of my back swing to forward swing, and club face direction at impact. Tightening these two variables will go a LONG way on the greens (also, I'd encourage a green reading lesson as well). Good luck playa!

Putting is still individual, like the full swing. For example, I don't like using a line, except on short putts; on longer ones it destroys my feel for the line & gets me too ball focused, which is bad for my pace control. The world isn't poorer for having both country & rock-and-roll; with more choices there is more chance for a person to find what works for them.

the one thing about marking the ball I´ve found, is that we tend to line the marker up with the pin, which is fine if the putt is dead straight, but not if there´s a break, which there usually is. So it´s better to line up with the break point on the green rather than the flag.

@@GolfSidekick yes. My point is, (and maybe this is just a personal thing, but ive noticed playing partners lining up with the flag rather than the break) i´ve noticed that I find using a big marker on the ball distracting particularly on long putts as it makes me want to line up with the pin. I don´t have an alignment marker on the putter and only occasionally use a logo on the ball to line up on shorter putts. (putting average 1.61 in my last few rounds due to keep the elbows tucked in)

Hi. Interested in this new grip of yours. Hard to see in the video but are the fingers of your right hand overlapping the fingers on your left? Also, Michele seemed a little surprised by your comment of tension in your shoulders when you tuck in your elbows. I seem to recall a bit of trivia that male and female arms (particularly the angle of elbows) are structured differently so maybe tucking the elbows in is easier for women than men? If you extend your arms palms up they are more or less straight while female elbows bend inwards. Could be why you feel tension in your shoulders but Michelle doesn't.

Hey Baus Matt, if you are serious about changing your putting stroke you might want to take a look at Bob Rotella's book, Putting Out of Your Mind. It is a very easy read and it revolutionised my putting with only one or two key concepts. I enjoyed this video. Thanks to you and Michelle both.

Great. How are the hands set on the club. Are they overlapping? Didn't get that part. Thanks!
