- i made that beat using bits of Really Love's intro (strings & classical guitar) and 1000 Deaths' drums (played by Questlove, just in case ;) so i named it 1000 Loves :)
Gear: Squier Eva Gardner(volume 100% tone 75%) into BSS ar-133 DI box then M-Audio fast track interface and recorded with Logic(Pro9)
lil comp (Logic plug in) Audio-Technica ATH M50 headphones.
I hope D'Angelo hears this.

To me, the main thing about guitar to bass transitioning, once you've achieved the technical adjustments of course, stands in the mindset: you can't think and/or feel the same way. Obviously the best thing to do is to learn basslines you dig and play 'em note for note along records or w/cover bands; by doing that for months/years, you should develop an inner sense for bass playing i guess...
about tuning, it depends on the musical projects i'm involved in basically.

when Black Messiah was released, Russell Elevado revealed the credits on Twitter: Questlove (1000 Deaths, The Charade, 'Til It's Done, Betray My Heart and Another Life) James Gadson (Sugah Daddy and Really Love) and Chris Dave (Prayer) all the rest was programmed by D'Angelo and /or Questlove on the MPC.
I love Chris Dave, I saw him w/Kenny Garrett in 2001, w/Me'shell Ndegeocello in 2004, w/Drumhedz in 2011 and w/D'Angelo (twice) in 2012 but I love Questlove's playing even more (I got hipped to Do You Want More in '96 and it's still my fave Roots album)
