  • Jammin on a beat made of samples of this tune off of Subject (2003)
    Dwele performed bass,keys & vocals on this and Karriem Riggins did the drums (well he killed 'em actually)
    Subject is my fave album by Dwele and definitely a "must know" if you're into neo soul and hip hop.
    I stayed kinda close to the original bassline with some variations and used only the neck pickup to emulate a P-bass sound.

    I've listened to this like a dozen times since last night. It's quite remarkable how you can conjure that P bass tone. I know that has everything to do with your velvet touch too though. Tbh I think I prefer this to a traditional P sound. It has the woody, airy sound we love, but pares off the clanky edges and adds more focus and sustain. Very hip stuff, great player.

      hey thanks for the nice comment! yeah that bass was dope, i had to sell it unfortunately but i agree with you, the neck pick up by itself had a very woody tone, tighter than a pbass somehow. peace

    Playing to loops is THE ONLY way to practice. You set a great groove, my friend.

    @dlight247 yeah ears are the most important in music; you could be 7 feet tall with huge hands like Pino or Ron Carter, you would still have to hear and to hear naturally (without having to think about it), you have to listen A LOT :)
    i know you mean it cause i feel the same way about other "unknown" players but knowing precisely where i "took" things to build up "my style" i just can't do anything but feel honestly humble about all that.Thanks again Darren and keep grooving and enjoying ;)

    i used to make beats with a MPC like 10 years ago so it helps a lot when i'm doing all those loops/beats to play along to ;)

    Love it as usual. What do you use to make your loops?

  • @GregF71
    @GregF71  14 років тому

    @emef44 Thanks, in this case, Nuendo but any recording/edinting software will do. Actually, it's not really a loop; since there's no bass-less spot on this tune, i took the Rhodes chords playing on the begining, chopped 'em and took the drums playing for one bar right before the tune kicks in,then i mixed keys&drums.

    @Fjord76 Sometimes i think learning by ear is better than any teacher because teachers don't always know what it is you want to learn, i would rather learn by ear and do my own research. I actually mean it, a lot of the things you play are so incredibly dope i cant help but to favor you man. I can definitely hear Pino in your playing, You, Pino, Jamerson, and Thaddeus Trybett are my influences. I really like the way you think musically, and when you lock into a groove it's bsick.
