  • Saw this Thruxton TFC from Triumph at the London Motorcycle Show recently and it had me wondering, is the extra £6,500 vs. the standard Thruxton really worth it?

    Beautiful.
    It just depends on what your goal is. If you want to have an exclusive badass bike from the factory, then why not?
    OTOH, if your goal is to tinker and individualize your Thruxton R, then you should probably not buy this bike. To keep its value, the TFC traps you (in a good way) into never changing it.

    I like it. If they get it under 395 lbs. I will purchase it! I have my 1976 Triumph T140V Bonneville 750 that never lost a race and won against all machines for 10 consecutive years. I am a life long Triumph man! The engines have the torque to lift the machine up in a curve, the key to Victory! You steer with the motor!

    I will say that my Standard Thruxton is probably the most enjoyable bike I have ever ridden in 56 years and 60 bikes from the 60s till now. I do not need anymore as this will get me into trouble quick like but this version aimed at the young sports bike enthusiast is superb. At 96 bhp I'm fine, 130-150 bhp!! now that is truly magnificent. You only live once, get one!

    If you go to the configurator on the Triumph website and add as many TFC type extras as you can (black wheels,fender kit etc) to the standard R model,the total comes to around £15,800 (including bike) However the TFC also has all the carbon parts,ohlins forks,tuned engine,machined yoke,nice clocks,leather seat,lighter casings,better brakes,awesome paint scheme and loads more small details. So yes it's a lot of money but it is actually worth the extra cost when you study the detail. If you were able to buy all the TFC extras from Triumph i reckon it would add up to well over £20,000

    Ohlin suspension has been described as being so harsh at speeds below 70 miles an hour, that the only people that can tell the difference between full hard and full soft settings, are the people that can tell the difference between regular concrete, and rebar reinforced concrete.. ....
    I don’t exceed 70 miles an hour very often, I never exceed 80 miles an hour. So I am not a fan of suspensions that are designed and Sprung to operate best at speeds above 100 miles an hour, and as a result, give a ride like concrete at normal speed‘s.
    This is a beautiful machine. I think I would go with the regular plain vanilla version and do my own upgrades to the appearance, and leave the suspension and engine alone.

    I would love to modify my Thruxton R but the problem is that it could make the bike impossible to insure. With a factory spec bike like the TFC this shouldn't present that problem. Anyway the TFC is a beautiful looking machine.

  • @AdmrbleCrichts
    @AdmrbleCrichts 5 років тому +2

    These comparisons aren’t really fair, in particular the supercharger bolt on. The best thing about the TFC is in the name - it’s a factory custom. This means it’s tried, tested, insurable but most importantly will hold or increase in value over time. Whereas your 4K spent on a supercharger might make it real fast (no comment on rideability) but ultimately is dead money from a resale value perspective - in my opinion anyway. Same with bolt on cosmetic mods. Anyway, I’ve got a TFC on order 😉

    Don't care for so much black. From a distance, blacked out bikes tend to look like a blob.
    The thing I would want black is the swingarm...to hide the chain gunk.
    I suspect they'll end up as collector's bikes. More for display than riding. That's okay as it is a nice thing to look at up close under the light. As jewelry, one could certainly argue the changes are worth the price. In the real world, I doubt I'd notice anything different besides my wrists aching from the lowered clip ons...and answering more questions at gas stations.
