One thing they forget as robotics come more into play they will replace workers. For the company can write off the costs of a robot on taxes and most people don't understand how expensive payrolls are in service industries. I live in Utah. I started working at 15 and made 9.25 a hour. I’m 24 now and I only make 20$ working at Amazon and still don’t have enough to do anything. I haven’t gone on a vacation or road trip or anything since I graduated and ever since I. Just been working and surviving getting raises and better jobs as I grow but man this has me sitting in my room right now on my day off just wanting it to stop. Why should I barely get by but California gives a kid that’s just starting his first job 20$ a hour. Make it make sense it’s so unfair like I’ve worked my butt off for what? I really am just gonna take a shower and contemplate cause man I’m tired

Wage is not why businesses are closing. Rents and the rise in food costs are the culprits.
Its why a few years ago I closed down my lawncare companies warehouse, sold my home in town, and bought a big junk of land outside of town, on one side put my family home, and a big polebarn I run my lawncare business out of. Rent in town was so absurd by just relocating my business into the county instead of in the city I was able to pay off nearly half my fleet of equipment in just a few years from simply relocating. The rents on commercial lots is absurd.

I and mine stopped all take out and dining in almost five years ago and don't miss it one little bit. All these places can flounder and we wouldn't even notice.
I stopped McDonalds evern before that, their food took a quality dive some years back IMO. Had I not then, this would have done it now.
I rarely eat fast food but I went to Burger King recently and bought 2 Whopper meals and it was $25. My eye balls just about popped out over the price!

I have a degree and work with autistic children and do not make $20 an hour. No offense to fast food workers but their job is not equal to mine. I worked at McDonald’s when I was 17 years old, crazy to think I could go back there and be better off financially than with my current position. Surreal.
This is why I quit teaching and run a thriving lawncare company now. I make hand over fist more mowing lawns than I did as a highschool teacher.

Minimum wage jobs are not supposed to be a long term, full-time “career” choice. So stop treating them as such.

Jobs are usually for the purpose producing a product. How much that job pays is determined by the availability of people willing to work for a perceived acceptable wage. Now that most people find it unacceptable to work and starve business scam artists will either have to pay more or enter the workforce themselves. A lot of business owners with inferior business models that can not operate without slave wages are going to fail.

They actually don't have to raise taxes. When you have inflation, and wages go up to match, then people end up paying taxes in a higher percentage tax bracket, even though they don't have anymore buying power.
Raising minimum wage to $20 will just put people in a higher tax bracket. They will find out next year when they do their taxes.

Aren't you guys paying attention? Raising minimum wages just doesn't work. It's been raised 8 or 10 times in the last 40 years. If it really fixed things, it would have already done it. All it really does is increase costs, which devours your increased income.

I dont eat fast food that often but I went to Burger King last week. I paid $25 for two Whopper meals for myself and my husband. My eye balls just about popped out over the price.

I found 10 4% fat beef burgers at Smart & Final for $11.99 & bought buns for $2.49 & cooked them on my new George Foreman submersible grill & the burgers are fantastic! I bought 2 Heinz picnic packs for $5.99 @.
So I can cook 10 burgers at home for $3.62 instead of going out & paying $18 for burger.
Before the pandemic a chili burger at Nations in Pleasant Hill was $3.99.
The last time I went there it was $10.99 and I got sick from it probably because an employee had poor sanitary habits.
I will not be going back to that Nations ever again.

I have a George Foreman grill for my motorhome and I love it! I agree about cooking your own burgers because they are so much better and cheaper than fast food!
