Thank you for repeating that the conditions don't have to be "perfect" to clean something that is stressing you out. I just stood up and spent half an hour clearing my bedroom closet. It's not clean, but it's 30 minutes better than it was before. Thank you for the motivation!

You should keep that wooden trunk from your wedding. Maybe use it to replace one of the cheaper plastic or fabric bins. To hold doll clothes or use as her baby keepsake box or store the clothes she wants to keep for her future child.

I love your videos and how honest you are😊 When I have anxiety I feel the need to clean because it makes me calm. When I declutter and clean my home, I feel like I clean inside my head, you know? My anxiety gives me like ”motivation” to clean and declutter because I just wanna run away from the feeling anxiety gives me, and cleaning does that for me even if I don’t have huge messes.
You are doing great and so proud of you. 😘 Hugs from Sweden.

Hi Tove! YesI I can relate to everything you are saying. It's just my kids suck my energy to do it most days (they all have special needs that take up extra mental and physical energy in my day) and then I get depressed for what I didn't do. I love cleaning and Cleaning is my therapy! LOL! I have an Etsy t-shirt shop and I made shirt that saids, "Cleaning is my Therapy". lol! That is how much I can relate to what you said. Something that helps me with getting rid of sentimental stuff especially is knowing that you always have the memories/experiences and the items don't keep the memories. 😊

    • @MrGrumpyGills
      @MrGrumpyGills 3 роки тому +2

      Very true!
Also, you can take pictures of sentimental stuff before decluttering it.
Recently I sold a ton of retro video games and consoles which my late brother and I played with when we were kids. I never used them anymore, they just sat boxed up on a shelf and in the basement. It was really hard at first to let go but it became easier and easier with each item I sold.

So true, BUT it can also be useful to create a Memory Box for those special things -- then you know where they belong + when it gets full, you can see if there are some things you're ready to part with. But either way, good luck on the journey!

Over compensation from past hurts is a real thing. Before my grandma passed, she asked me to help her declutter. She was ashamed of all the clothes she had collected that she never wore, claiming she grew up during the depression and never had any clothes. I admired her honesty and willingness to let go.
You're doing great, don't give up on yourself. The fact that you objectively analyzed your belongings instead of getting offended when people said you have too much stuff, says a lot about your healthy progress. You're amazing.
Also, using the treasure chest fr doll clothes would be so cute!

Thank you for sharing your story about your grandmother. God bless her soul🤍🙏🏼.
One of my fears in having the clutter is leaving the burden of it all on my children some day and so that is my number one reason behind this Messy to Minimal journey here. And it worries me that my daughter would have difficulty parting with it all knowing that she is sentimental like me. I don't want to put her in that situation one day. Your grandmother will always be in my mind as I declutter. She will be an added motivator for me. I understand her shame in the clothes. I have the same problem and I will be sharing that too. Yes! Exactly! It’s less overwhelming when doing small bits at a time. Our bedroom is the worst room in the house and it’s slowly getting better. Then after the bedroom, I’m going to do the kitchen again as it needs to be reorganised as well. It isn’t working, and I might declutter a bit more as well.

    • @MightyMama
      @MightyMama  3 роки тому

The struggle is a lifelong battle but we can stay on top of it and prevent it from sucking us down any longer. It will never be perfect but we can create a clean happy home that lessens our anxiety and prevents us from going into a depression. I have found that doing a little each day makes me feel like I am accomplishing something and keeps me in better spirits opposed to not doing anything and then feeling like a failure about it. We have clean. It's just a part of life in order to live healthy and just recognizing that if I want to live happier then I have clean each day. I am striving to push myself harder each day to get the depression mess and clutter behind me once and for all. I still have a very long journey ahead of me but the little progress each day makes me feel successful and motivates me to continue. So start small and keep adding to that. If I can do this you can do it! I am always here for you Donna! Stay Mighty! 💪🏻🦋🙏🏼🤍

I've listened to "Goodbye Things" for free on the Libby app. Congrats for being open to suggestions and starting to declutter. It has really helped me with my anxiety and depression. I also think it's helped me to not put too much pressure on myself to just get rid of everything. It helps me to do multiple passes of decluttering. The 2nd or 3rd time I'll find things that I couldn't let go of the first time, but is easily let go of now.

I just want to applaud what you're starting. I keep hearing you say you're doing this because of your childhood. Let it go. You're children are in a completely different environment. Holding on to their toys that they don't want isn't going to keep them little. You said an amazing thing in there; "now other kids who grew up like I did can have access to this now." That's what matters...keep up the good work. I know its hard, but you can do it!

When I de-clutter, I often feel a sense of freedom and control of the home environment. The stress along the way dissipates pretty quickly now and the relief and sense of significant accomplishment moves in. Great, great job!

    “Stress mess” absolutely!
never heard it said that way before and boy did it hit hard. Everyday life was hard enough to get through most of the time. I have health issues that make getting out of bed most days difficult. So when there is so much mess it takes longer to find things, the walls feel like they are closing in on me, (which triggers my depression and anxiety)I can’t find things so I buy more,etc..
There was always so much stress all day all around me.
I have noticed Since starting this journey lately most things have their own place now and there is an ease with getting things done now. Less “stress mess” = much less “life stress”My mood and energy are so much better.

I either don’t want to get rid of it bc I think I might need it at a different time, or I don’t want to take the easy way out and just donate it bc I always think “I can sell that” and then I never take the time to do it.

We all lead different lives with different stories & sometimes with the same outcome. Covid killed my mental health & stole my spirit along with it but seeing someone so real with no bull is so refreshing & inspiring!! Sooo THANK YOU!!! You did what you set out to do for me!!! Just found you and boy did I need this. Please keep doing this series. I am so unhappy in my house. I feel such guilt and shame about how messy and cluttered my house is. I start each day feeling behind and go to bed feeling defeated. I don't want to pass this on to my 2 kids and I don't want to live like this anymore. Thank you for sharing so honestly. So many UA-cam videos about decluttering are about removing two items from a perfect table in a perfect house. Thank you.

I think it was sweet that your daughter wanted to donate some of her things! I totally get the difficulty in purging your children's items- THAT'S SO HARD!! In my situation, I had to come to the realization that I could only have 1 child- we tried for more with complications but God gave me a daughter and I'm blessed to have her. But all of the items, clothing, nursery decor, etc. that I had for her, was building up in storage and I COULD NOT even think about getting rid of it- until just recently. My only solution was to take photos of all those sweet outfits that she wore, the toys that she played with and the Decor that adorned her nursery. I'm a scrapbooker, so this was a great way to re-visit those memories whenever I want to! I DEFINITELY over-compensate with my daughter, especially with photos. Thank you for posting your video- VERY INSPIRING and I could relate to so much of your daily stories!

I was lying on my bed watching this video.. it is almost 10pm
So I got up and organized with you. I straightened out my Summer clothes closet. The Winter clothes closet is in good shape
I don't want to be a minimalist. I could never enjoy that. But I watch you for cleaning and organizing motivation
My home is in pretty good shape but could always improve.
I enjoy decorating and I keep a pretty tidy home too. But I have plenty of time and the kids all are grown and gone.
I had to clean house, clean dishes in evenings, iron my clothes etc when I was growing up. My mother worked and had 4 kids 2 years apart. But my parents gave us a Blessed lWehad a beautiful home and took pride in caring for what we had.
I have Bipolar but it is controlled by meds and lots of sleep. The anxiety is a constant battle.
    God Bless and Keep going,!

Hi Sydney! I am so happy to be here for you and thank you for being here for me as well. Hearing from you truly motivates me even more. So thank you for sharing your heart. It is not easy but we must fight stronger by pushing ourselves to do one thing each day. We are worth it and our struggles do not define who we are. We have way more to us and me tal illness is just something we have to deal with along the journey of life! We cant allow the weight of it to steal all of our days from us! If having a clean home will make you feel happy then fight hard to give yourself that. Don't let your own self get in the way of your happiness! you have that power right inside of you! one small step forward. i know its scary but thats all lies. Nothing will go wrong if you start. You will be okay. I promise. And then you will feel so good when its done and ask yourself why the heck did I wait so long to do this?! Happened to me everytime and I didnt die or get hurt in the process as my anxiety told me I would. lol! I am going to talk more about this in this weeks video so stay tuned. plesse get one small thing done in your house this week and let me know how it went in this weeks video comment section! I will be praying for you Sydney!♡ Stay Mighty! You got this!

I have the same problem. But I'm planning to make a blanket out of my son's clothes/baby blankets. Cut em in small squares and make a throw blanket out of em.
Also the way you said, you were really good at packing bunch of stuff into an area and didn't even notice there was so much. Maybe that's how you feel mentally, you just pack all your emotions in. Clearing clutter it's therapeutic to me. Pretty sure it was for u too.

I have anxiety, depression, OCD too. I have been on a minimalist journey for just over 3 years. The hardest thing I had trouble realizing is there is no "there". No I am finished. No TaDa! It is a constant process. What you couldn't part with today the next pass through you will find things that seemed important last time are not so important now. And the journey just continues.
I have been on the struggle bus the last six weeks. I am fighting like heck not to fall in that dark hole but it is just exhausting! Just keep on swimmin....it is all we have to hang onto.

I love these videos so much, I will follow you throughout your whole house. You did so good it's unbelievable, you should be very proud. Also, you will find yourself going back and letting even more things go, as the 1st time is the hardest and now you're training your brain how to let things go, it gets easier and easier. I love your cleaning videos too! You will also see how easy it's going to be to keep your house "picked up", and it won't be such a chore to keep the house clean.

Love the video! You can create a “memory box” for your daughter and put all the stuff you want to give to her when she grows up. If it fits in the box, you keep it. If it doesn’t, you don’t! This way you’ll keep just the really special things and she will enjoy it a lot when you give to her when she is an adult ☺️

@mightymama. I used my wooden chests to start my kids hope chests. A baby outfit from each of them as babies. Then I started adding pots and pans and stuff so that when they go off on their own they have these things to start their new life with. Even if it is for a dorm. Or a first apartment. It will be so helpful.

For sentimental things, something I do is pile it and go through it once a year. I find that giving some space between the emotion and decision helps me be more clearheaded. I did that with all the kids schoolwork. I would put everything in a bin and at the end of the school year go through and it helped me make better decisions on keep or ditch.

I use to tell my boys that we need to give away the stuff they no longer play with much to be loved by other kids that don’t have toys. They would go all in. I did let them participate once. In a group yard sale and they made $20 on their toys. They picked most of them out. And I started implementing the 1 in 1 out toy system. If they wanted a new toy they needed to let a toy bless another family. It worked very well. What also helped was signing up for our local thrift shop to do monthly pick ups. Have a donate box in every room and then once a month take them or get them picked up. It helped so much! 😊
