When you watch the hoarding shows, they usually mention that there are levels. Of course, they pick the level fours for the show because ✨️ drama ✨️, but those level four homes were once level ones... I grew up in a hoarded house and picked up a lot of those traits. Some are more easily broken than others.

Hi April! Thank you! Its true I am at a lower level but still it impedes on the quality of not only my life but my entire family. I need to stop it now because it is getting out of control. Plus it steals so much of time and this is time I want with my family and to teach my kids how to be a good homemakers. I appreciate you so much!🥰 Have a beautiful day my friend!🌷🙏💪🤎

I am a new viewer. I have PTSD and a sudden empty nest. The struggle is real. I often feel that I have no reason to get out of bed. Haven't dressed in weeks. Won't go out any more. I am working with a therapist. Thank you so much for sharing your life. What a true blessing you are.

Hi Kathie! 😭 My heart feels your pain. Please Never Ever Give Up!!! Your babes may be out fo the house but they are still in this world and they still need a functioning healthy Mama. I know the struggle but always remind yourself that youbare loved and needed by your children. Sometimes we forget that. They want you to get up and shower and go to therapy to get well so you can be around for them and their babies. Its a new season for you and change is uncomfortable but its also exciting. This is all part of Gods plan for you. You have new excitement to create for yourself and this means you will have to step outside of your comfort zone and try new things and meet new people. You need to take csre of yourself so you can go live the happy life that you deserve. What is one thing that you always wanted to do but couldnt because you had to be home with the kids?? Now go do it! And think of others and do others! And come back and let me know how its going. I expect to hear back from you! Once you get that happy dopamine rush you will get motivated to clean you home too! There is so much life for you to live! Dont give it up! Praying for you! Stay Mighty & God bless!🙏🤎💪💐

My mom is a hoarder, watching this video gives me anxiety. Keeping way too much. If it's not in your kitchen already you don't need it OR you need to clean out your kitchen before you go through this pile. But thank you, it makes me understand her better.

I am definitely a hoarder. I just recently divorced of 10 years, and brought 10 years worth of stuff with me. Most is still in boxes. I cannot bring myself to declutter it yet.. but this gives me some motivation to do so, plus it's nice to know I'm not the only one, especially with your depression and anxiety cleaning videos as well. One thing that helps me declutter is something I heard Dawn from The Minimal Mom talk about. If you can replace it for $20 or less in 20 minutes, get rid of it. It helped me throw out all my old coffee canisters that I was saving in case I needed to store something in them. It's so much easier to throw out dumb crap now 🤣

I am a hoarder and have been decluttering my place for a year and a half. I'm almost there. What I have found is it happens in layers. Don't worry about decluttering "perfectly" in one go. Do the best you can and then go over it again later. It amazes me how I will think I have decluttered because I reduced a category by 50%+ then look again and realize I need to get rid of at least half yet again. My main issue is not over shopping and cluttering my place again. In one of the decluttering/minimalism videos I watched someone said "If you have too much stuff, no matter how you organize it it will look messy." This quote has helped me so much. Sometimes when I declutter and then organize it still feels wrong, and usually the problem is there is still too much.

All I can say is God led me to your video this evening. I readily admit that I’m a hoarder and I’m also depressed and have zero energy just about everyday. I take meds for my depression but when I have a bad day, I buy “stuff”-either at a resale shop, TJ Maxx, The Dollar Twenty-Five Cent Tree (lol!), or online. When I buy things, I can picture, in my mind, where I want to put them or use them….except I never do and they just keep adding up until, at this moment, there’s barely a path through my house. The buying makes me happy at that time but whatever it is just gets thrown on something when I get home. I get sooooo frustrated with myself-Thank You for being real and helping others feel they’re not alone and giving us ideas and tips that are really doable and not too overwhelming.

You know what helped me declutter a lot of sentimental items was realizing that i actually felt kinda sad when i saw those things. Yes it made me remember sweet times, but it came with a sad emotion. However, if i just remembered that person who had past, or just remembered my sweet tiny newborn babies, I could just feel happy about the memory. The physical item made me kinda sad. So i just let those things go and i can have peace in knowing that those times were sweet, even if i don't always remember every single one.

We started minimalism a year and a half ago. We did not have a ton of stuff but we are in our 3rd house with 4 kids & so we accumulated things within the years.
We started just tossing things that I wondered why I had kept. Styles & trends change; therefore, things my 1st child used will not get used by my 4th child. In addition, we got so good at buying less & less of things that the house looks minimal with 4 kids than it did with 3 kids.
It took a year to clean out all the rooms, seasonal decor, the garage, bathroom items, etc. Good luck on your journey.

For things that are personalized, it may seem crazy to donate it, but there are lots of people that do DIY's and repurposing. So things like the platter could be painted over. Clothing can be cut into pieces, or they may use it just to practice a new technique on. So just a reminder that not everything has to be "used as is".

Hoarding is a spectrum. It's holding onto different things for different reasons. If someone's upset because you say you're a hoarder even though you don't look like the extreme version of that, that's like arguing with someone saying they're an alcoholic even though they're not drunk all the time because they're trying to manage it. This is a long and hard journey but I am excited for the results to come! Thank you for helping me through it!🤎🙏💪🌷

I think hoarding is a spectrum. I have such a hard time physically, mentally, and emotionally letting go of anything. Now obviously I don’t keep trash, but if I haven’t used something in a two years but I spent so much money on this hobby that I can’t get rid of it.

Like the dead plant you will forget about it and since all the items in there will not be easily accessible you will probably go out an re buy rather than use. I would make a space in the floor of your pantry and put them there so they are accessible.

Laura I have been working on the same things too. I started with closets and drawers so I had a place for what I wanted to keep. Doing one corner at a time. I am getting there. I worked my butt off when kids were growing up and no I old school homeschooled. I had to go back to work when youngest was a senior. No longer did I have all day to do everything. Then I went through a huge bout of depression and anxiety but I functioned thru like I had done all my life. Then 3.5 yrs ago the greatest thing happened to me. God gave me grandchildren. 2 girls 3 weeks apart. Now a grandson and another n the way. I also had given a home to a close relative that has severe mental disorders. More than I knew how to take care Of. With working and grandchildren and normal things in life more clutter came and I t was hard to get to areas and clean. My lord relative moved out then my adult son’s apt flooded. He and his stuff moved back in. More o f the same. I remember you talking about your perfectionism one time. Oh f you can’t get everything done perfectly at once you couldn’t get started. That was the first time I’ve had ever heard anything of that and realized that was me. I am still fighting with hru this mental attitude and seeing so much progress. Thank you so much. Sorry this was so long but watching you and fearfullycreated has helped me so much. Once you really redo the kitchen you could consider getting cabinets up to the ceiling. You can put out of seasonal and party stuff there and it will be impossible to put anything on top of it that adds visual clutter.
We used to have that it is amazing when you have high ceilings. You just need a nice ladder to get the stuff.

As far as the mental illness it has to do with your reaction to even the idea of letting go. Someone can have a lot of things (a hoard) and not qualify as having hoarding tendencies. It has to do with emotionally reacting and having severe anxiety over letting go of things. This is why I like to clearify that I have hoarding tendencies to help people understand that for me it goes beyond just having things. But even if you dont have those tendencies and you just have things, I don't think it is wrong to say you hoard. It's just a different kind of hoarding. ❤
I dont know if u have been medically diagnosed, but from watching your video I see lots of similar tendencies to my hoarding habits. It's important to know that you can improve when it comes to hoarding and you are using many techniques that are recommended to hoarders including photographing things to ease the pressure of letting them go. I love that you were talking through your reasons for keeping or letting go; that is so helpful for hoarders. Great video!
Edit: googone is the best for removing sticky labels to repurpose containers.

I absolutely love organizing. Wish I could be there to help you. I am a hoarder of sorts. Although if you come to my house you’d never know it. I keep everything in its place and stored. Do you have a large linen closet? That can be a nice storage area for things not used often. Another idea is cabinets in a garage along a long wall. On a day that you are doing a major cleaning it’s best to make something in a crockpot. I usually do a pot roast in the oven. Anyway, best of luck on your journey.

Wow you made really great progress! You can be so proud of you 😊
I think its really good that you take sentimental items like the platter out of their initial home once you discover you're not going to use them. I like to put items like these in a memory bin or sth similar if I want to keep them for sentimental reasons. Its so much easier for me to have a seperate home for all kinds of sentimental items. You can always put things from all over your house there when you realize you don't want to use them but aren't ready to part with them yet bc of the sentimental value they have. And when you finally have all of your memory items in one spot you can slowly start to declutter those once you feel ready. This goes hand in hand with the rule that its often easier to declutter things of the same kind.
I think it's absolutely fine to have a hard time parting with sentimental items and to keep them for now if you're not ready to letting go of them yet. But its great to have a home for those things so you know immediatly where to put them. For me this speeds up the decluttering process a lot. Maybe thats a solution for you when you stumble across sentimental items while decluttering. You could for example create an extra pile for sentimental stuff in addition to the donation, trash and keep piles.
I really like your channel and I'm so excited to see your progress in the upcoming videos! 😊

I keep going back and forth on suggesting this because I sooooo understand that there is stuff that we NEED to get rid of, ESPECIALLY if we’re not using it. So please just accept this as me, a fellow recovering hoarder, just tossing out this idea even if it’s a very bad one:
As far as the platter with the signatures on it… is there a place in your house where you could hang it on the wall or display on a shelf as decor with other wedding memorabilia? You said you don’t like the color or style so I perfectly understand why that idea will absolutely not work and why you didn’t want to ever do that. Either way, I understand why either keeping it or getting rid of it would be a struggle and I’m proud of you for being strong decisive enough to let it go. Sentimental stuff is especially hard for me to toss.

It was actually a victorious feeling and so freeing to know that I could let that go without any pain. I feel like I am taking control back again. Thank you for being a friend!
