It’s funny, becoming a mom actually motivated to adapt a more minimalist lifestyle. I absolutely refused to feel cluttered in the midst of motherhood. It’s that additional stressor I didn’t want to maintain. Living in such a way has definitely helped my son appreciate the small things way more & not get so attached to materialistic things. It’s also given us more time in the day because I don’t have the drowning thought of cleaning and organizing in the back of my mind- because there’s hardly anything to clean/organize. I definitely don’t think that having children automatically means that you need to have excess clutter. It’s all about your lifestyle and you have control over that.
Well, as someone who started minimalism before the first child: You certainly have to manage more stuff than a minimalist without kids ;) But yes. Everytime I visit my very not-minimal brother-in-law with wife and daughter I feel overwhelmed by all the outgrown clothes, kid’s furniture and toys. I have two of them and of course we have stuff I would not have without kids (we love board games and kid’s books and although we also use the library we still have a lot of them). But I can fix every mess in about 10 minutes.
I agree , it's a choice but also a personal preference. I bought a bunch of stuff with my first child and learned that I didn't use or need nearly as much as I bought. With my second child, I corrected that by reusing and decluttering. As they got older, we drastically reduced what we bought and used everything until it fell apart. Now I declutter with the seasons, and it's very manageable .
I started to declutter when I was just desperate to simplify my life. The most difficult thing for me was feeling guilty over wedding gifts. But I allowed myself to enjoy my living space. I no longer wanted my home to be a storage space for guilt clutter. I'm finally confident enough in my journey that I can boldly let family know that I don't want any gifts for the holidays. Just quality time is all the gift I need. The first Christmas I did no gifts it was so freeing to not have to figure out where things go. I don't have kids though. But I still suggest freeing yourself of your guilt clutter.
I agree. I asked my family for no gifts, but for the children experiences if they’d like to. The kids love it. They get other gifts but always too many. So the experience gifts are so appreciated.😊
It feels so good to get hidden spaces tidied up but don’t forget that visual clutter causes anxiety as well! Clearing walls and flat surfaces a bit can make a huge difference! It’s so nice to see moms doing these tasks to help themselves and it’ll really benefit your kids so much! Keep it up mama!
I started the minilism journey 2 years ago, and man, I don't regret it at all. Best thing I could have done for myself and family. I have a total of three kids. Once I removed 80 percent of their toys I started to see more focus and imagination. I worked slow with my teenager and now she loves less stuff. She feels more relax in her room now.
Im a minimalist who has helpped people declutter and I happened upon your video and you did SO good decluttering! And everyone's house is like an onion. Youll revisit all this in 6 months and find even more to part with.
What about the 30 day minimalism game? You declutter one thing day one, two things day two, etc. OR you can mix it so you do fewer things in hard days and more things in easier areas/days with more energy. Over 30 days this totals 465 items!!
Good job! I recommend placing a bag or box for donations in each bedroom closet and near the door you use to go to your car, so you can drop unwanted items in as you come across them. That way the task doesn't grow into a major project. Especially keep on top of processing PR items, because then you can donate them before they have expired.
My first little girl is 17-months old and I’ve been on a similar journey myself! I love so much that you posted this to inspire other mamas- like myself. I found minimalism about a year ago through madisun gray and the minimal mom and it has been LIFECHANGING. Great job mama!
Oh my goodness, I found Madisun Gray a year ago too- who knew an internet stranger could change our entire life SO much?! No exaggeration. I’ve been intensely decluttering my entire life ever since. ❤
Thank you as always for your transparency! And thank you for acknowledging that our generation definitely needs to reconsider our consumerism I know since having a baby there was like a zoom of purchasing & then I realized I was overwhelmed and could have done without most of those purchases 😅😂
You did a great job...I need major decluttering after 53 yrs. in the same house! I sure could use your help but that would probably create another problem since i would be wanting to give a huge amount of my "treasure" to you!... Love, Grandma ... I sure miss seeing the kids grow up!
It’s so satisfying to watch this 😍 I’ll just say don’t feel bad for taking things to GoodWill if the other places become a big task! I now do GoodWill trips weekly. Some really nice stuff but the instant gratification in having it all gone is worth so much to me.
I have such a bad habit of collecting things too and with my adhd it’s so hard to get rid and f things sometimes. I’m sure as my daughter gets older it’s going to be hard to get rid of her stuff too. You should feel proud of yourself! Also thank you for the honesty of what real drawers can look like. I see so many people pretend they aren’t human sometimes and I think it’s especially helpful to share the reality with having adhd!
Hi Megan, you are such a lovely girl alone with your amazing hubby. I live in New Zealand and I am actually a grandmother. My daughter-in-law is about to birth her 4th child. Was due today, so I just decided a week ago to look at some birth videos (for fun). I love the sacredness of birth. I have so enjoyed watching/listening to your videos while crocheting this weekend. I'm back to work (school teaching) tomorrow but I kinda feel like I know you because you have been so open with your viewers and real and honest. Letting people see your real life. That's quite a gift. To be so natural with your audience. THANK YOU so much. Even I (grandmother) have enjoyed being a part of your story from thousands of miles away. God bless you and your beautiful family! Lucelle xx
Love love love this! Having a clutter free space is so important for mental health for the whole family. As a society, we are so stuck in the mentality of consumerism - both purchasing for ourselves as well as gifting to others. Often I think we're just buying for the sake of it and in doing so, filling up our homes with stuff we don't need. Bad for our bank balances, mental health and the environment!!
Needed this video in my life right now! Crazy how you can accumulate so much in such little time lol this mom needs another round of decluttering. Feels like I’m always doing it every few months
There is so much comfort in seeing just another mom trying to feel a bit better by decluttering and being real about the clutter that comes with parenthood. A lot of people just expect parents to be on their A game all the time, with a clean house and happy kids, but parenthood is really all about keeping yourself sane and happy and your kids happy too. Thanks for showing this. You seem very genuine and fun to hang out with :)
Loved this! I definitely am more on the minimalist side of things normally, but trying to clean and organize before baby comes makes me shocked at how much you can still accumulate. It feels so good to get rid of things and be left with things that make you happy! Every time I open my daughter's closet or my laundry room I have legitimate joy from the organization and clutter free of it all!
Proud of you Mama! I’ve been decluttering for about a year and I’m still finding more to get rid of. I started much in the same way as you did here and now I’m at a level where we are really cutting our stuff down even more minimal and I’m feeling so much peace from it! I’m feeling like I’m so close to reaching a comfortable clutter threshold that I can manage with 3 kids to care for and spend time with but who knows, I’ll probably end up finding even more stuff to go the next round through.
I’m not a mum but I’m helping my mum clear the house bc that brings me joy and I pretty much say do you like it? But will it be used in the next 6 months. That’s what I do and it does a lot! Then after the clearing bit is done i do like the cleaning then the organisation bit
Proud of you! I've been meaning to declutter surfaces and this was great inspiration. Must feel amazing to look around your house and see all that work you did!!
Megan, truly you are not only helping yourself with the decluttering, but your kids and husband as well, even if they don't realize it. High five!! God bless you and yours!!
You did great Megan. I have the same thought process as you when it comes to saving mugs. It was so cute watching you go through yours! Happy Friday to you and yours. 😊
Watching this while I declutter my closet! Our boy was born in July last year (like Juniper!) and I’ve come to terms I won’t be going back to my pre-pregnancy body for a while (one of those mamas who doesn’t lose weight breastfeeding). From your videos it looks like you’re living a minimalist lifestyle, so I’m so glad you made this video because I can totally relate!
before I gave birth, I decluttered my whole house for 2years plus and finally almost reaching my ideal minimalist state with just 20pc capsule wardrobe and only keeping what i need. BUT as soon as I got pregnant and gave birth, i too started accumulating so much stuff. anything to help with postpartum hair loss, weight loss, make ur baby sleep instantly etc, sure sign me up! and suddenly the entire house became so cluttered when my baby is just 4mo now and it is stressing me out! i can totally relate to u and this is so motivating for me to start decluttering all over again. thank you!!!
Im a mother of two adult children and a grandmother of two grandchildren that had a toon of stuff when they were first born. I had to give away lots of their belongings has they gotten older
I consider decluttering every other month has become part of my self care for my mental healths sake. It is heavy at first and overwhelming but now it’s been simple and easy to get my kids involved and understand less is better. ❤
My heart knows I need to do this, but I am having trouble starting. And now that I’m not working I can’t even blame lack of time! Thanks for sharing, it is so helpful seeing others work through this side of life!
I related to this so hard! Lol! I too am a "nightstand hoarder"! I have been meaning to go through it but just never have the time with 2 under 2! This inspires me 😊
Our third bedroom is our office/storage. I’m in nesting mode currently so you know I’ve a fire beneath me to get it done. And yet, no matter how much seems to come out of that room it remains looking untouched 😂 One of our big things is toys as well. I’m glad I stopped Lovevery at 1 yr mark bcuz even with just that we have Lovevery in every nook and cranny ha
Great progress! Also when you said in the beginning 5 mugs are not enough to get rid of but actually it is a great way to start! Every small step you take is one step closer to a minimal home (and also minimalism looks different for everyone)
On your next and 10th and 15th pass through you will be ready to get rid of more. I have found it easier to stick to one room until every drawer is cleared. And then cleared again in a few months. I barely bring anything new into my house. Helps that we live in 320 square feet.
I just took a break from doing the toy room (his walk-in closet) since toys keep getting left out. Since he's older I have a two step system where I put toys I don't think he'll miss into a donate bin in my closet until the end of the month. If he hasn't noticed a toy missing then off it goes to the donation center. We also rotate so he has one set of each category available and then they switch out when he starts getting bored. Example, he has building blocks, Lego, Magna tiles, Marble run he gets to have one in rotation and the others are away. He can chose to swap them out at any time but it helps keep what he has fun and mess limited. 😊
decluttering and owning less is a journey! 💪 ( I'm busy for more than 2 years now... tackling one drawer at a time... ) Have you read the book Minimalista by Shira Gill? it is just perfect for motivation and mind-shifting! Do you still have paper appliance manuals somewhere for the toaster that you don't even have anymore? 😂
Lol. 😂 not you body doubling with the camera 📸 while I body double with my iPhone! Also, now I understand why I run out of steam 😥 and mental energy! Dopamine drops!💁🏾♀️📉
In case this helps, with kids stuff - try to put a box of stuff you are planning to give away somewhere for a couple of weeks first, and see if they notice. Or for longer if you are still worried xD it gives you instant decluttering but avoids possible meltdowns in case you made a mistake and put away something kids suddenly love again
Why is it so easy to accumulate mugs and cups haha. I did a big purge of toys and books but I need to do more...I love rearranging the organization too. My kids have a bigger gap between them so it's been harder to get rid of things that I know the younger one will eventually play with, but I have started limiting the number of those things. My son won't let any stuffed animals go though...I have to be sneaky some times. I did move some things out and thinned out what was accessible because I'd just read about the concentration/attention stuff and it helped them play with things they hadn't in awhile. Curious how things will go for you. lol Matt trying to keep everything. I'm the same, wondering if they don't miss it or if they'd miss it if they knew about it haha. My older one will ask about things down the line and I just tell him it went to a kid who needed it, and then he tells me to get another, and I don't, and he forgets :P I'm so nervous to get rid of everything as well (pump, breastfeeding things, etc) just in case, though we should be 100% done :P Way to push through and get it done!
It’s sad how much money we waste on useless stuff. That money could be saved for our kid’s future instead of just spending to be spending. We are a culture of excess. 😢
For the blankets and comforters and all that get some vaccum bags girl. I got some off Amazon and man they helped declutter my bulky covers and etc. You got this 🎉
How do you start? And how long did it take you to do this? I just have accumulated so much stuff with 3 kids and for pass 7 years it’s crazy!!! And growing up I barely had any stuff being 6th I also got handy downs . And for my kids I get them brand new. I will work over time to get my kiddos the things they need and necessities . I feel like sometimes I get a lot more cause I never had. I feel like even toys. Idk if it’s associated with trauma or never having enough it makes me worry when my kids don’t have something.
I got to that mindset only with the second baby🤣it IS easier to live with less stuff.

This is true. I've always wanted to be more minimal and decluttered but becoming a mum makes it more realistic and puts it in full affect.
Yes… No!!! 😂 I love shrek.
@@Matt_Acuna I think of that every time too 😂😂

You’re totally not alone in that!

Its crazy how much stuff people think kids need!
Especially clothing! There's no reason to have a dresser and a closet full of clothes for a baby.
I have such a bad habit of collecting things too and with my adhd it’s so hard to get rid and f things sometimes. I’m sure as my daughter gets older it’s going to be hard to get rid of her stuff too. You should feel proud of yourself!

Thank you....this is the crap we really go through. Great job! No declutter videos are what we are dealing with.
I would love to see more content around your journey towards thoughtful purchasing and home editing. I enjoyed watching!
I’m doing this as a series so be sure to check out the next two which are a closet declutter and a fridge declutter/organization!

Watching this gave me the motivation to start decluttering!!! Got my whole kitchen decluttered and organized during the kids nap time yesterday 😁
Needed this video in my life right now! Crazy how you can accumulate so much in such little time lol this mom needs another round of decluttering. Feels like I’m always doing it every few months
I hate decluttering videos that aren't getting rid of anything, so this video is FANTASTIC!!! You actually decluttered a ton! Great job!!!

Your little girl is precious! She looks like a baby doll
This was so satisfying to watch & incredibly motivating! Thanks for sharing ☺️
Thank you for watching!
I love cleaning, decluttering & decorating videos, you did so so good Megan!!🫶
Its such a chore decluttering but it feels so good when its done!
It really is so satisfying!
Love this video! Thanks for being transparent and sharing the process with us!

Decluttered my freezer/fridge, pantry, and play room with you today! Thank you!
Yayyyy I’m proud of you!
Proud of you! I've been meaning to declutter surfaces and this was great inspiration. Must feel amazing to look around your house and see all that work you did!!
This was SO MUCH fun to watch. Thank you ☺️❤️
Haha, this brings me back. I had to declutter play food and plushies many, many times😅
Now all your linens can be kept together. It’s crazy how much stuff you get once you have kids. Keep up the great work. It’s an ongoing process.
I needed to see this...thank you for the motivation! My kid's toys are driving me crazy 🤪
Loved how you just made those snap decisions to let go! Very enjoyable video to watch and LOVED the pile at the end!
Really hope I find some motivation by watching this 😅 love your channel!
I wish this video was an hour long it was so fun to watch❤ would love a cleaning video too those are always fun to watch and motivating!
Megan, truly you are not only helping yourself with the decluttering, but your kids and husband as well, even if they don't realize it. High five!! God bless you and yours!!
I am tackling my 2 and 5 year olds clothes today. Not looking forward to it at all but this video helped motivate me! Thank you!
love this content!! love a good declutter video mixed into your regular programming
I just think how much junk we accumulate and all the crap that must go to landfills. It's kind of sad when you think about it....
You did great Megan. I have the same thought process as you when it comes to saving mugs. It was so cute watching you go through yours!
Happy Friday to you and yours. 😊
4:58 the music is giving anime mom, like somewhere between 2015 diy music and an epic romance anime intro
this was a major inspiration,,it was great
Watching this while I declutter my closet!
That inspired me to declutter my house. It’s much needed! Thank you for sharing this ❤
You can fold all of the sheets into one of the pillowcases and that way it keeps everything together and a little bit more contained!
before I gave birth, I decluttered my whole house for 2years plus and finally almost reaching my ideal minimalist state with just 20pc capsule wardrobe and only keeping what i need.
You just wrote my story lol 😂 I am in the exact same spot
GOOD FOR YOU Megan! That looked exhausting, I definitely can think of a few spots in my home that need this treatment 😬
More of this, pleaaaaaseee- you making decisions motivates me!
Loved this video. Makes me motivated to tackle my house 😅. Btw you look great!
I threw this video on while needing to tackle some big cleaning projects! Thanks for keeping me motivated! 💛🙌
Great job! I can only imagine how good it feels to create some space within your home!
My heart knows I need to do this, but I am having trouble starting. And now that I’m not working I can’t even blame lack of time! Thanks for sharing, it is so helpful seeing others work through this side of life!
Just need to start and break up the areas/tacks into small chunks so that you don't get overwhelmed
The oil for nails keeps dried nail polish in better condition after your manicure 💅 is dry. Worth it. Learned that from a friend.
Sharen
Great job!!!! Great motivation 😊😊😊😊
Great progress! Also when you said in the beginning 5 mugs are not enough to get rid of but actually it is a great way to start! Every small step you take is one step closer to a minimal home (and also minimalism looks different for everyone)
Good on you. Overcoming the mindset is the first step.
So excited for this one Megan 😊😊😊
You killed it!🎉 Loved this video, now I need to get to decluttering my house😅.
I feel like I'm the exact same as a mom. There's SO MUCH. Thanks for the inspiration!
Salutes "Major Purge!" Love the ADHD realness and himyim reference ❤
I'm going through a summer declutter right now too 😂
I loved watching this soo much!
Oh man I am nesting hard right now and this is the content I need as I also deep clean my kitchen and closet!
Love this video Megan!!! X
You did a great job! Wish I could get motivated to do my house. It is out of control!
Gosh, I've been saying I need to do this for the last month. I told my husband I'm having a yard sale in September
if there are mugs you have for memories... repurpose for makeup brushes, pens, one in the laundry for buttons, and you mentioned little plants.
decluttering and owning less is a journey! 💪 ( I'm busy for more than 2 years now... tackling one drawer at a time... )
Have you read the book Minimalista by Shira Gill? it is just perfect for motivation and mind-shifting!
Do you still have paper appliance manuals somewhere for the toaster that you don't even have anymore? 😂
I enjoyed watching this video! I find myself laughing because I can relate ❤ 😅 like oh, that's so me! Time to get busy lol
it feels greet to see that i'm not the only one in this situation , it give me motivation to declutter too
Lol. 😂 not you body doubling with the camera 📸 while I body double with my iPhone! Also, now I understand why I run out of steam 😥 and mental energy! Dopamine drops!💁🏾♀️📉
Thanks for donating to the women's shelter. That is one of my passion projects.
I love your videos and I love decluttering videos so this is my dream video haha 😂
Fantastic declutter!!! You did so well. A new subscriber.
Thank you so much for being here!
My older one will ask about things down the line and I just tell him it went to a kid who needed it, and then he tells me to get another, and I don't, and he forgets :P
I'm so nervous to get rid of everything as well (pump, breastfeeding things, etc) just in case, though we should be 100% done :P
Way to push through and get it done!
Love this. You’ve inspired me to do the same thing.
Loved this!! De cluttering is soo satisfying 🤤
Great job!
You are funny 😆 ❤ Thank you for this video !
wait stop do you remember where you got that pumpkin mug you got rid of? I'm kind of in love with it LOL
She got rid of WHAT??? Oh I can’t watch this video… 😅
That is the most realistic "after" I have seen my whole life🎉😂
I think the marble thing at 3:40 is a white wine chiller.
weird question lol but where is your tank top from when you are cleaning out junipers closet? it looks like the perfect workout tank!
You look amazing girl 😊
Thank you
I want to declutter so badly, but I married a pack rat. He loses his mind when I even bring up trying to declutter or donate items 😂
