I find arctic fox doesn’t bleed nearly as much as lunar tides, iroiro or manic panic. But all of these colors do have some degree of leakage at least when shampooing.
I also want to know which ones bleed the least because I'm already planning Halloween hair and I've wanted to do orange and black so badly but I don't want to commit to a permanent black
I used to live by ion blackest black! Yes it is super messy but it stays in nicely and fades to either silver or dusty lavender. I’ve noticed its one of the only black semi permanent colours that doesn’t have any funky undertones
good to know thank you i just bought it, going split dye, been wanting black in my hair for so decades but i think was scared i’d never be able to go white again 🌝
@@peonys111they didn’t! Just check online, they might just never have it in store, i went to 3 diff sally’s and the last one only had one box left, people must constantly buy it XD

Thanks AisIinn I love these experimental videos. I have NEVER seen anything as wild in my 18 years hairdressing. That’s crazy. I’m sat here scratching my head like what the heck 😅
This was super helpful as I'm planning on dyeing my virgin hair with semi permanent black and didn't want it to fade out green (obviously will not be using bleach to take it out). Would honestly love to see a second video of this but with another set of brands like manic panic, lime crime, clairol, etc.
I used the ion blue black this winter and it faded so quickly even just with washing! And it faded to an amazing gray tone so I highly recommend it as a black dye. It definitely leans more dark blue but yeah I've never had a bright dye come out so easily.
I love ion! I use their permanent black/brown shades and I often change my hair so when I bleach it out, it’ll go blonde in 2 bleaches and a tone. So I love ion, it’s pretty easy
When I tell you I actually said "what the f*ck?!" out loud at that reveal!😳 I cannot get over those first two turning bright ass orange and yellow. Like, how?!?
I'll say the Ion didn't surprise me too much. I regularly use the Permanent Brights shade in Tanzanite and I even see that fading out of my hair as a permanent color. And keep in mind, I use that over non-bleached hair so I'm not super surprised that it came out so easily. When I'm done being blue one day, I'm definitely going to try their color remover and see how it does. This was a great experiment! Thanks so much for this video! Super informative as always! :)
I used the ion blackest black a couple of times and opening the tube surprised me too but when I emptied the whole thing in a bowl and mixed it it got a little bit thicker. But I loved how black the color was and it was surprisingly easy for me to get rid of the color. I washed it a lot and did vitamin c and baking soda method and it came out so easily. It came out better than the other color I had in my hair. Everytime I was black I use that color it looks so nice. I love this video idea I’ve was searching for a video like this for so long because I love having parts of black hair but I change my hair too much to keep it black so I’ve wanted to know which black comes out easily. Thank you for the video. ❤
I just used color oops yesterday to remove permanent black dye, that was on top of a semipermanent indigo hair color. Surprisingly all of the colors came out. I started out with bleached hair so my ends are dark blonde and the rest of my hair is my natural hair color that has grown out. I used clairol natural blue black, Joico indigo, and Adore indigo. Color oops removed them all.
Wow that's insane especially such dark colors!! Must be a good product, wish I would have known about it 8 years ago with my permanent black dye from Revlon I could never get it out it was 25 years of black dye 😞
Ive used the ion black... it is hard to work with. But I mix it with the Good Dye Young purple for purple undertones and it also thickens it and it works pretty well. the Ion black is honestly the only one I have found so far that gives me a true cool black. I also use the Iro Iro but the new formulation and I love it
Oooh you showed up with the perfect video at the perfect time! I’ve had my hair dyed black for the last 15 years so I’m always on the hunt for the next best black dye! 🖤
What’s your recommendation for black hair dye with your years of experience? I recently dyed my dark blonde hair dark dark brown and I’m planning on going black, I’d rather semi/ Demi over permanent preferably, do you like blue toned blacks?
I always recommend the Ion ones to our customers at SB when they are looking for a semi-black because they don't fade out weird like a lot of the other ones. My personal favorite is the regular black one, but it was awesome to see the Blackest Black and Blue Back used!
the color change from black to neon is absolutely bizarre!! thanks for this one, my 14 year old wants black, mom wants less commitment lol! only bc she changes her mind so often. I'm all for whatever color you want your hair, do it! i just got rid of Sea Witch from Unicorn Hair. can't decide what to do next.....
I’ve been wanting to do semi permanent black all week and have been searching videos thinking to myself “I wish Aislinn would tell me what to do” Insane timing ❤
This literally couldn't be more perfect timing. I watched @nemonebulous video comparing black dyes as well and love it but I'm so happy to see the amount of brands you included. Definitely need more videos like this.
To anyone who was interested in getting the ION ones,, they're discontinued sadly. It was my favourite black dye and I haven't seen it get restocked so I emailed and they told me. I'm so sad!!! If anyone has any recommendations for a black that fades brown pls let me know. I'm allergic to perma dyes so I have to use semis. :/
ive used the ion blackest black and the consistency has been the same as the midnight blue black both times ive used it! so i think its just either the batch that one was from or the one you got
I'm actually so suprised with the GDY. I think its also something they recommend to deepen their colours too but it was stunning. And the iroiro made me shooook. Never tried it but it was their worst reviewed product and now this!!!!
I absolutely adore the Guy Tang colors but it has had the longest staying power in my hair over any other color line I’ve used. Just knowing you like to change your color frequently, I’m not sure I’d recommend it for you.
Very helpful video! I also would’ve love to see the ‘crazy color’ brand in natural black with a brown based undertone & the regular black with blue ish based undertone! 👀
I appreciate the warning on the guy tang dye scent... having just got out of the ER with a 4 day migraine. 😭 But, my friend wants to do black and loves to change color too so now I know which I can recommend! 😊
I've been craving dying my hair black for some time now. I have pink face framing pieces and some colors throughout. Sometimes I really just crave the dark vibe but I've been so afraid I'll fuck up my hair cause I know I'll miss the vibrant colors 😆 THANK YOU for this! Peepin that ion black that went right back to blonde 👀
Would love to see you do this video again, but to assess bleeding! Like use blonde swatches and dye the top half with each. Then rinse it out with cold water and let us see if it'll bleed into the blonde on the lower half!
This was super helpful! 🖤 I recently used the Lunar Tides Eclipse and had pretty similar results with the end result. I naturally let it fade, though, with just washing my hair with lukewarm water, and it faded to a reddish brown.
Maybe I’m silly, but I thought the second one was my favorite black when you showed them, and the bright yellow it turned to was actually a really fun color! 😅 thx for trying this 💛
Love that she gives us a heads up about the strong lavender scented one and warns those who know like it, lavender gives me a headache so it's good to know haha

I am curious which has the best staying power. I wonder if you'd be willing to do multiple shampoos on them all? You could just mix some clarifying shampoo with water in a squeeze bottle, spray them, work it in a little bit and then just rinse them on that board. Would be pretty easy to do and super helpful!
This is crazy. I JUST decided to dye my hair black last night and put the ION Blue/Black in my cart to buy. I am so happy I picked that one! I am a winter and the blue undertones work well for me so I think this will be a great buy. I am honestly just as shocked at how clean it came out of the hair. Thank you for doing this!
It's like the lunar tides pigment that made it black stayed put and what ever reddish color it was using for undertone got stripped. That's probably a good black if you plan to stay black or dark....and that ion for anyone who knows they wanna change it up.....wow Thank you for this!
Crazy! I have a bottle of AF Transylvania that is blue/green based. I hated it so i never bought that color again. >.> they must have just changed recently.
I have natural medium brown hair with years old balayage. As I re-dyed the ends brown it faded quickly and pulled copper, however i don't want to keep damaging my hair by dying it ash brown - I mix the lunar tides black with conditioner to create a deep charcoal colour, and the base of blue and purple cancels out the brass extremely well and keeps my hair super ashy with no damage! It matches my natural roots. A lot of blacks have a green base, so finding one with purple and blue has been a game changer. Fades out perfectly. Guy Tang's charcoal colour also works great for this, however is not readily available in my country. Thought i'd write this just in case anyone else is a brunette who needs to banish the brass.
I feel like I lost my general understanding of basic hair coloring principles watching this. The lunar tides has me confused and the other results also were strange lol. Black hair color is Pandora’s box.

This couldn't have come at a better time. I'm getting ready to start interviewing for jobs and want to dye my hair fun colors still but really dark so I can get away with it. I was thinking of getting a semipermanent black to mix with my other dyes so I can have really dark red, purple, etc. in my front section but preferably without staining the blond underneath too badly.

I hope one day we live in a world where we can get a truly semi-permanent black, that fades nicely with no weird colors!
Living for the day they invent vantablack hair dye tbh
I personally love ion blackest black. Barely bleeds and fades to grey.
The way my jaw DROPPED when you showed the result of the color remover. Ketchup and mustard 😭
