Geez....I really hope technology becomes so advanced within my lifetime that a time machine is produced, because I would so use one to see Oingo Boingo's shows over and over again
Day on the Green tour 1984ish (?). Oingo, the Police is all I remember... probably from the stupid wine coolers...gross. I drink vodka now since I.m all growned up😧 Cheers 🍸🍸🍸
Went to three Dead Man's Party concerts back in the 80's (Pacific Amphitheater and Irvine Meadows), they were awesome. I wish they would do a Reunion or play Coachella.
Not just one of my favorite Oingo Boingo songs, but one of my favorite songs ever. I wonder how many kids are out in the world today, the same age I was when this came out, who don't even know the song exists? All I want to do is play it for them. I don't say this from a "Kids today don't have good music" perspective, I just think it would make a lot of people as happy as it has made me for decades.
When I was 12 I was cleaning out the garage with my mom when we found a box of her old records. Instead of pulling out her Zepplin or Floyd records she pulled out Nothing to Fear and put on Grey Matter and said "I think you'll like this song." I haven't stopped loving this band in 13 years and I hope I never do.
Thank you Danny Elfman and Oingo Boingo!!!! You bring me back to the 80's and high school everytime i listen to you.. Miss you guys!!!!! Play together again some day would be so awesome!!! I will be there!!!
one of my top five favorite songs of all time. when Danny starts jumpin' and bangin' om the balaphone at the start it reminds me of a little kid just cutting loose and having fun. I've seen them many times and have great memories from every show. could'nt make their farewell, but can't win 'em all. wish I had a time machine...this show and halloween '94 would be top on the list to go back to.
Boingo's use of any and all instruments (xylophones, accordion, horns, etc.) is true genious that you rarely see today. Rock on Boingo! Wish you were still making music.
Dude, your Mom rocks!!!! My sons are finally appreciating the "school of rock" they've gotten in my car since birth. From FEAR, Circle Jerks, Motley Crue, Oingo... All 80's madness.
After many years of going to shows, seeing more bands live than I can remember, and over ten years working in the music industry in the 80s and 90s, I have still never come across a more talented, more original, and more FUN band than Oingo Boingo. Going to concerts was fun, but going to Boingo concerts was an experience of it's own! We miss you guys!
Thier live performances never disappoint it was always intense very high energy from this awesome band seen them a few times and I tell you the energy was off the hook
Thank You KROQ who played Oingo Boingo when no one else in the L.A. area would. I remember seeing them perform in the street in Hollywood before they were booked in the clubs. Amazing talent. No wonder Danny has enjoyed such success.
I saw them in 1984 at the Del Mar Fair w/ Joe Buselt and Rhonda Salvastrini. So killer!!! Last day of school, 9th grade, Chula Vista High School. I lived it and loved it. Even rode the bumper boats with RIBS....
More than a few Halloweens spent with Boingo. I miss those days. And to think, before I could legally drink!!! Just pure enjoyment and a mildly obsessive obsession with gingers from this. TY Elfman.
I remember walking my two sons in the stroller down to SDSU to the OAT and listening to OB on the lawn and then seeing them at the Sports Arena...thanks Morgan McCausey to turning me on to a great band!!!
I saw them live on New Years eve early 90's. Very small club. Danny wore camo fatigues and Doc Martens, Johnny Vatos in nothing but a diaper (NY's baby.) People stage diving and moshing everywhere. Also saw their very last show in Hollywood. They played over 3 hrs. Brings back great memories. Great band!
I've loved this band since I was little! I wish I was able to see them, but I was only 10 when they had their farewell. :( I still bump these guys. NO OTHER MUSIC COMES CLOSE. Love it. Danny is the man!
Awesome song among so many others. Home boy is ALWAYS working and you just KNOW that he loves his "job". He is most certainly a genius. Here.s to Danny🍸🍸🍸
We always got the music. We understood. We went to Halloween shows at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, year after year. We went to Summer shows at Universal Amphitheatre, we danced, we sang, we celebrated. We bathed in the brilliance of a once-in-a-lifetime kind of sound. We relished our victory.
I cherish the times I was able to see these guys live. I'm pretty sure I was at this gig, and I'm pretty sure that it was called a Rhumbaphone. One of my first "vinyl" purchases was the 4 song EP of Only a Lad as advised to me via radio by Jud The Fish of KROQ 106.7 in SoCal. That station has been sucking lately...anyway, I'm glad so many people still enjoy.
Wow...I have to say this is awesome, I was curious about Oingo Boingo for so long, and at fist I heard stuff like "Little Girls" and "Only a Lad" and thought, this Danny Elfman guy is twisted. But I gave the music a chance and realized fact those songs have underlying meanings and are BRILLIANTLY written. Not to mention the band being so TIGHT, like in this video. Jeez, I was just a kid when they were touring, wish I could have seen them.
I saw these guys live they played for three hours without a break, no break, not even to stop and talk to the audience, song after song after song their energy was INSANE!!!!!!!! Oh, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers Opened the show, it was SIIIIICK!!!!! On the side of a mountain in Park City Utah in 1990
@InBetweenAreDoors Sorry. Musically, it was amazing being your age in the early 80's. I was your age when I went to my first Boingo concert. How cool it was to watch freaks with brass and woods electric - real artists! Now the crap that is created is based on mathematical algorithms to sell to the masses. But they cannot touch the human cord that is people who look for excellence. BTW MTV was incredible then and Elfman is a hessian god.
The liner notes to "Nothing to Fear" (where this song was originally released) says they're "rumbaphones" built by band member Leon Schneiderman. They are variations on balafons. Just Google "rumbaphones" to see what I'm talking about.
I saw them at First Avenue in Minneapolis probably about this time... don't know the date this was recorded... but they were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Wish I had had the opportunity to have seen them more. Clever lyrics, Fantastic instrumentations. Wish they would reform. If you haven't, check out the Burton Willy Wonka film... you can so see Boingo influences in that soundtrack - more than any other Elfman ones that I've heard.
I miss Elfman playing but glad Oingo Boingo Dance Party still goes on with 5 of the members. Halloween show back in OC but just not Irvine Meadows (gone). Get your tickets for 3 shows in October, 2017 in SoCal.
I want a wiggety-wack xylophone! I can't find the music video, but I allways imagined the xylophones to be hollowed-out bones, does that make me a schmuck? Love the line in the begining, Oingo Boingo RULZ!!!
@elfojuice boy did you say a mouthful and Danny is one of the most talented people of our generation i was one of those kids that loved oingo boingo and i have followed his music ever since pure talent and a very gifted musician.
As much an orchestra in miniature as a rock band, these guys so effectively realized Elfman's darkly brilliant pop music imaginings...& were such performers, too! PERHAPS the best band of the '80s? Could be...
To think that during their heyday they frequently came down here to San Diego to perform, and I never made any effort to seeing them. Grrrrrrrr. :( Oh, well. There is an excellent Oingo Boingo cover band (Dead Man's Party) playing tonight at the Belly Up Tavern. I should go try to see them again. They really are pretty good. :)
@espiga1 damn, I am jealous that you got to see those performances. I saw every show in SLC (their 2nd favorite tour location outside of LA), but their farewell show. Amazing fun band that was so highly underrated.
Two words.... Awe some :) We were listening to Led Zeppelin, The Who and the Rolling Stones at the time and these guys came out with this new, different sound.... amazing. I love the xylophone and percussion in this song. The lyrics are great too. They had a big band with a large brass section at times too. I saw them at the Roxy in Hollywood. Where are bands like this today? Danny... I know that you're busy but do this again man!
they never played knott's at least not on halloween. they may have played at the now way defunct knott's dance hall CLOUD 9 way back in the early 80's or late 70's but halloween was always reserved for irvine meadows. always. the might play a few nights at universal amp a few days before or after halloween but irvine was rock off its foundation every halloween night by danny and the boys. i saw them halloween night when they debuted singles from THE DARK AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. fantastic show. nearly 3 hours if not actually 3 hours. 75% hot young women made up the crowd. halfway thru the 1st song everyone was up and dancing and never sat down the resst of the night. had great seats its now a bone of contention but we either had 11th row or 15th row seats but they were definitely right in the middle. great seats, except i had trouble hearing for the next week. however, i dont give a rats ass because every member of that band was not what passes for a real musician nowadays. these guys were the real thing. the were one of the few bands ever that sounded just as good if not better live, then they did on the studio. BOINGO BROUGHT IT! REAL MUSICAL AND SINGING TALENT UNLIKE MOST OF THE SHIT "ARTISTS" OF TODAY. if the pop icons of today were afforded careers based on a comparison to oingo boingo"s musical talent and ability to put on a live show that actually entertains without all the fluff stage shows that go into covering the lack of talent and ability, none of them would have careers to speak of in music. ELFMANS VOICE ISNT WHAT IT WAS BUT I'D STILL GO SO THEM IF THEY DID A REUNION TOUR!!! sadly it probably wont ever happen but at least they left behind some great music that still delivers.
Yeah it was back in the early mid 80's that they would be at Knotts like on Oct 29 and 30 but as for the 31st not sure if they ever performed at Knotts
I knew the bassist was playing the xylophone which was why I was asking. I think you may be right about it being an electronic bass. I doubt they would've used a pre-recorded bass live but you never know,
That's right, kids. Before Autotune, bands could give fantastic live performances by actually singing and playing instruments well. Plus, their music had a message! Amazing to think how entertainment has (d)evolved since then.
Geez....I really hope technology becomes so advanced within my lifetime that a time machine is produced, because I would so use one to see Oingo Boingo's shows over and over again
Best times in my young life was going to a Oingo Boingo concert. This group was one of a kind and so much fun.
Day on the Green tour 1984ish (?). Oingo, the Police is all I remember... probably from the stupid wine coolers...gross. I drink vodka now since I.m all growned up😧
Cheers 🍸🍸🍸

I'm 11 and I think that I was born in the wrong decade you are so lucky !
It was a pretty good time in a lot of ways. Play this song for your friends though, it's bad-assed. =)
damn right
I remember spending Every Halloween with them at the Irvine Ampatheater......
When I was 12 I was cleaning out the garage with my mom when we found a box of her old records. GOD I miss them..Saw them 3 times!! So much energy!! And this is my Favorite song in the World!!
one of my top five favorite songs of all time. when Danny starts jumpin' and bangin' om the balaphone at the start it reminds me of a little kid just cutting loose and having fun. Rocking out on mutated marimbas, I see proof that Danny Elfman is a genius.
I saw them 6x @ Wolf & Rissmiller's Country Club, In Reseda, CA. Loved them SO MUCH & always will!! One of the best live bands EVER!!
I miss Oingo Boingo. Saw them 3 or 4 times during the 80s. I remember their shows were so much fun.
Boingo's use of any and all instruments (xylophones, accordion, horns, etc.) is true genious that you rarely see today. Rock on Boingo! Wish you were still making music.
i lived in san diego for 15 years and saw these guys 15 times love them they are so awesome live !!!

Oh! How I miss seeing them live... deliciously weird, pure energy for 2 straight hours! -And a concert hangover the next day, complete w/ringing ears!
I remember walking my two sons in the stroller down to SDSU to the OAT and listening to OB on the lawn and then seeing them at the Sports Arena...thanks Morgan McCausey to turning me on to a great band!!!

NO OTHER MUSIC COMES CLOSE. Love it. Danny is the man!
I saw Oingo Boingo on this tour in November (I think) of 1994 in Sacramento. Awesome show! Probably my favorite concert of all time. Good times.
Favourited as soon as he started talking. I love that man and his music!
Awesome song among so many others. Home boy is ALWAYS working and you just KNOW that he loves his "job". He is most certainly a genius.
Here.s to Danny🍸🍸🍸
Rock. And. Roll.
One of the best live acts I've ever seen.
I used to love O.B. They put on some of the best concerts I've ever seen.
So good to listen to Boingo's song in live... Thanx
Thank you Danny, and Boingo for the best memories of the 80's, and the best music!
I had a student use this song for an English project!
Not a girl called Alice was it, Tampa Bay?
Fuck your student
@@chainsawteddybear why
Great energy
What I would give to see these guys live one more time...!!!!!
Definitely one of their best songs. I love how they rock out on the xylaphone
saw them on New Year's eve back in '80s
They rocked the year out.
Nothing will ever compare to Oingo Boingo! Wish they would do a reunion.
Wow, thank you! That just totally kicks ass. Got to see one of their last concerts in Las Vegas; they were awesome.
They kick some serious ass here.
I really love Oingo Boingo. This was a great video. I've been to a couple of their concerts. They were really good live.

This is just so brilliant while being as fun as it gets.
This concert was recorded on Halloween 1995 at the Universal Amphitheatre. One of the greatest concerts I've ever witnessed.
Oooh! I saw that SDSU concert, too- it was awesome!
danny elfman is like a satyr. I love this song, thanks for posting!
Danny was and is still is before his time that is why he is a genius
@InBetweenAreDoors Sorry. Musically, it was amazing being your age in the early 80's. I was your age when I went to my first Boingo concert. Danny Elfman was so before his time i want this song played at my wake
Boingo, my love, my life.
The liner notes to "Nothing to Fear" (where this song was originally released) says they're "rumbaphones" built by band member Leon Schneiderman. They are variations on balafons. Just Google "rumbaphones" to see what I'm talking about.

How do you feel about them now?
Being double the age you were when you made this comment?
WORLDS GREATEST BAND!

everytime i learn somethin new about him, im just amazed how much of a genius he is
Awesomeness! So awesome, that it deserves the title of awesome sauce!
I want a wiggety-wack xylophone!
I can't find the music video, but I allways imagined the xylophones to be hollowed-out bones, does that make me a schmuck?

Everything about this is stunning!
They should have dominated the world and right - they possibly could now. Elfman has done it i guess his way.
What is amazing is that this is a very bizarre song.. bit luv it
What a great find here! Thanks for the upload!
Best Concert ever!
They say you're stupid. Aren't we ? OO forever !
It's a damn shame we will never see Boingo back together performing live again. I'd pay anything to see 1 more Halloween show
Loooooooove this song! Thanks for the upload ;)
I saw them and loved it!!
dueling xylophones---pretty awesome!!
Great Stuff!!
As much an orchestra in miniature as a rock band, these guys so effectively realized Elfman's darkly brilliant pop music imaginings...& were such performers, too! PERHAPS the best band of the '80s? Could be...
SYNTH baby. That's a synth. Pure 80's analog bliss.
To think that during their heyday they frequently came down here to San Diego to perform, and I never made any effort to seeing them. Grrrrrrrr. :(

Very good song. I used Grey Matter in a video I filmed at work. Perfect song to fit the working environment. It's called All Work & No Play.
I can't believe one of the greatest film composers was in a rock band.
Holy shit. Most rockin' xylophone in history.
Take it and like it.
saw them everytime they came to town like 20 times
Boingo rules, Danny is a musical genius
I was at that concert in the direct center of UA. I've yet to see myself in any of the vids. Damn! LOL
@espiga1 damn, I am jealous that you got to see those performances. I saw every show in SLC (their 2nd favorite tour location outside of LA), but their farewell show. Amazing fun band that was so highly underrated.
Talent on display!
this was the OB Halloween concert . . . DIA DE LOS MUERTOS . . . look it up
I miss Oingo Boingo !!!!! Danny Elfman crazy genius!!!
best band no one knows about
Two words.... Awe some :)
We were listening to Led Zeppelin, The Who and the Rolling Stones at the time and these guys came out with this new, different sound.... amazing.
I love the xylophone and percussion in this song. The lyrics are great too. They had a big band with a large brass section at times too. I saw them at the Roxy in Hollywood.
Where are bands like this today? Danny... I know that you're busy but do this again man!
Halloween just wont be the same without them
This is one band I always wanted to go see on Halloween @ Knott's Berry Farm but never got to. It's a shame there no more.
they never played knott's at least not on halloween. they may have played at the now way defunct knott's dance hall CLOUD 9 way back in the early 80's or late 70's but halloween was always reserved for irvine meadows. always. the might play a few nights at universal amp a few days before or after halloween but irvine was rock off its foundation every halloween night by danny and the boys. i saw them halloween night when they debuted singles from THE DARK AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. fantastic show. nearly 3 hours if not actually 3 hours. They were one of a kind
I believe this performance was also available on the Farewell album, unless I'm sorely mistaken.
too awesome for words.
I wish there were ten stars to give this video.
