Saw them twice. First time they opened for The Police on their Ghost In The Machine tour. Paul Moyer was doing a segment on them for Eye On L.A. and recording a segment outside The Forum as we were leaving the concert. If you ever see the clip of him talking you'll see my arm appear in frame right at the end of the clip :-D
OMG yessssss best ever! In Seattle, circa 1985, Danny literally stopped the show when the others were off beat. I was all...---WHA??!!! Well, love never dies and neither does my affection for this crazyass perfectionist.
@susansmith4268 Yes Susan!. It was N amazing show. The stage had these huge boxes on stage, and as the music started,(can't remember) about 10 seconds later the entire group popped out of these huge jack in the boxes and had their instruments and just started jamming.
Saw these guys in 1983. They were great. I kind of forgot about them until I got 3 of their CDs in a collection bought at garage sale. I can’t stop listening to them now. Totally amazing!
Everybody is always talking about Danny, and rightly so, it's fair to say he is one of a kind, but what about John Avila? He's amazing! A musical and performing powerhouse bar none.
It's a shame the pure hardcore New Wave bands of the '80s ( Oingo Boingo, XTC, Devo) have been forgotten by subsequent generations. They put out some tripped out music.
Being lucky enough to watch this band evolve and grow. I have seen them countless times in Southern California, where they reigned supreme. The could sell out arenas there. This is by far the most quintessential Boingo song ever. As much as I love the huge production they became. Click tracks, and recorded strings. There was nothing like the days when it was eight ass kicking members, no tech, just raw energy and power.
*My most favorite band ever bar none, I still get goosebumps when I here and see them doing a live show even though its recorded great memories of a great time in life *
You can not listen to this band for a few years and stumble upon them again and ask yourself, "What have I been doing the last few years wasting my life not listening to this band?" Luckily for those in SoCal (and Utah), we at least get Oingo Boingo Former Members performing. No Danny but this whole band was a masterpiece.
I also was at this show and was fortunate enough to see them at The Whiskey a Go Go under the name Clowns of Death, Danny came out in the clown outfit with the ocordian..Memories
I got to see this in person. Talk about MUSICIANS! IMO, no one can match Oingo Boingo in terms of skill, talent, and being able to put on an amazing show! Best concert memory I have.
Saw Oingo at Raincross Square in Riverside, Ca during the 80’s ! What a blast!!!!! Couldn’t hear after the concert but had a blast!!!!! What a great and innovative band!!!!
I was lucky, saw them at St. John Bosco High School. One of my friends got me tickets. Then saw them everywhere from Long Beach to Irvine and Universal, San Diego and Riverside...
There is something inside my head, its Boingo, Irvine Meadows Halloween, final concert at Universal, skateboarding half pipes, Johnny was bad even as a child....I am him, and so are you - Thanks Danny
3/11/2017 ...FEI (for everybodys info) Final concert 😭 was 10-31-1995 at the Universal Amphitheater. The guy who was awesome enough to post this really shouldve included those stats with the other info.
@@lijemiriam7965 that woman made a misandrist and uncalled for remark about Danny, who happens to be one of the most brilliant musicians of his generation. I didn’t appreciate that woman reducing him to an object.

Came here for shirtless Danny Elfman. Stayed for Shirtless Danny Elfman. I knew the song anyway.
Trine Langohr He started working out in his older years, and you should see his arms! OH-EM-GEE!! He's got muscles like a bull! 🐂💪
Like a bull? uh, that sounds a little too much for me. You can have him ;)
Trine Langohr LOL...That's the nicest gift I ever got!

Hope he’s wearing moonscreen. He’s gonna get a moonburn.
For those of you who never saw them live, I'm sorry :( Best live band ever!!!
I saw them live at the Irvine Amphitheater way back in early 80s and also at UCI, slam dancing and all was so much fun.
How I wish.... sighs 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Pretty sure my mom was still a teenager. :(

John Avila is amazing! His his energy is unrelenting and those facial expressions are epic. Do you know what he has been doing since Oingo Boingo?
@@byeongcheol5610 He has continued to play, tour and produce music after Oingo Boingo.
Let's also not forget Steve Bartek, his composer credits are not as well known as Danny Elfman, but he also has quite a few credits scoring films.
John Avila still performs....including with "The Avila Band" along with his family! Check em out on UA-cam.
So proud to say I was there Oct, 31st 1995 at the Universal Amp. The Final Show

They definitely haven't been forgotten! Plenty of teens love these bands :)
Literally so many teens listen to this
Nah we still love them

That song is so freaking fun.
Danny is just a genius. John Avila always entertaining to watch.
Agree
OB songs are always just absolutely bananas to listen to. Like the way every sound and instrument comes together in here is just nutty
This is one of the most amazing live performances I have ever seen. Grey Matter remains fresh going on nearly thirty years. Fabulous.

I was at this concert. AWESOME and miss them. I went year after year to there Halloween concert in Irvine, CA.
I did too...a group of friends and I went every year! I still have an unworn sweat shirt from one concert!
how you are so Lucky i , i was born in 1996
The Halloween shows were so amazing! Never missed one. I have a shirt from 92’ so tattered I don’t wear it anymore. It’s the only one I have left.

name another band with a balafon solo in it that sounds this great. name another song with a balafon. nothing to fear.
Halloween 2020 ... Relevant now more than ever.
Back in 1984 I used to listen to this with my off-brand "walkman" whilst riding my mongoose around the neighborhood.
I am so addicted to that balafon(?) solo, I wish I had the talent to transcribe it for marimba because it would be such a dream to play.
I was lucky, saw them at St. John Bosco High School. One of my friends got me tickets. Then saw them everywhere from Long Beach to Irvine and Universal, San Diego and Riverside...
Oingo Boingo is like nothing I've heard before and 'Grey Matter' is a very good example of that!
This is just fucking brilliant

Comparing this to his new Japanese butoh-inspired “Sorry” video... he’s more muscly now than he was 25 years ago!
This is ok on the CD But this is the Bomb live who's boingo this is it 😎
Every time I hear this song whether live or not, I think most amazing band ever.
Oingo Boingo saved my life! I was going to kill myself, but then they appeared in my life.
I am alive only because this band exists.
honestly, the same goes for me. they make me so so so happy and aaaaaaaaaaaah- yesssss
For sure Boingo got me through the high school years. I wonder if the boys ever think about how they impact people for real.
Boingo has gotten me through some the toughest years of my young adult life. They've brought me so much joy in very dark places.
