Oh man...this was such a great time! My teenage years shaped by 80's music..and this band was my absolute favorite. Seen them many times!! Awesome, and simpler times!

He also directed music videos for Sparks and the first EVER video for Red Hot Chili Peppers, “True Men Don’t Kill Coyotes” during the same year as the “Gratitude” video, in 1984. He is an oddball and a complete genius, like Crispin Glover in “Rubin and Ed”.
I read somewhere that this album was intended to be an Oingo Boingo set, but that it appeared under Danny's name because of a conflict with his label. This might explain why Oingo Boingo members appear here; the tenor sax player as the last church member that Danny "heals" before the freeze, the trumpeter as one of the poker players (along with Danny's brother Richard), the lead guitarist as the lead guitarist, the drummer as one of the prison guards (I think he's the one who throws the electric chair switch). yep, this song/album is pretty much a Oingo Boingo track. from wikipedia: "Oingo Boingo guitarist Steve Bartek stated that So-Lo was "mostly a band record", but that MCA "wasn't particularly interested" in Oingo Boingo and so had signed Elfman as a solo artist. However, Elfman wanted to continue the band and convinced MCA to change his recording contract to Oingo Boingo following the release of So-Lo."
He did, I think, 8 albums with Oingo Boingo then at least 1 solo. So-Lo. Including this song gratitude. Then it seems he focussed and worked hard on sound tracks. During the covid lock down he had some time not composing sound tracks and put out 1 song a month. That ended up being call "big mess". Some original and a couple new versions of Oingo songs.

Oh man...this was such a great time! My teenage years shaped by 80's music..and this band was my absolute favorite. Seen them many times!! Awesome, and simpler times!
This music video was directed by Graeme Whifler, who also directed music videos for San Francisco’s Ralph Records label, including The mysterious and anonymous Residents, Renaldo and the Loaf, and Tuxedomoon, along with Snakefinger. He also directed music videos for Sparks and the first EVER video for Red Hot Chili Peppers, “True Men Don’t Kill Coyotes” during the same year as the “Gratitude” video, in 1984. He is an oddball and a complete genius, like Crispin Glover in “Rubin and Ed”.

I read somewhere that this album was intended to be an Oingo Boingo set, but that it appeared under Danny's name because of a conflict with his label. This might explain why Oingo Boingo members appear here; the tenor sax player as the last church member that Danny "heals" before the freeze, the trumpeter as one of the poker players (along with Danny's brother Richard), the lead guitarist as the lead guitarist, the drummer as one of the prison guards (I think he's the one who throws the electric chair switch). Anyone see any of the other ones?

@@TighelanderII That's him, all right. Looks just like Danny, only he's wearing a hat. He was a filmmaker and I believe he organized The Mystic Knights Of The Oingo Boingo until Danny joined, eventually took over leadership, and moved in a more pop-oriented direction.

yep, this song/album is pretty much a Oingo Boingo track. from wikipedia: "Oingo Boingo guitarist Steve Bartek stated that So-Lo was "mostly a band record", but that MCA "wasn't particularly interested" in Oingo Boingo and so had signed Elfman as a solo artist. However, Elfman wanted to continue the band and convinced MCA to change his recording contract to Oingo Boingo following the release of So-Lo."
Wow danny elfman is a massive talent, most only know him for his themes but wow. Simply amazing.
He did, I think, 8 albums with Oingo Boingo then at least 1 solo. So-Lo. Including this song gratitude.
Then it seems he focussed and worked hard on sound tracks.
During the covid lock down he had some time not composing sound tracks and put out 1 song a month. That ended up being call "big mess".
Some original and a couple new versions of Oingo songs.
