    thank you for this. You have opened my eyes on CDK in October 2019, and now my GFR is back to 64 which is not even CDK anymore.
    I dont want to repeat what you already explained in your videos but here is my success story that i feel obligated to share.
    - in 2015 my GFR dropped to 57 and i was referred to a Kidney specialist.
    at that time i was:
    overweight BMI=34,
    high blood pressure (managed with Lisinorpril for 20 years) >>> family history
    High Cholesterol managed with Simvastatin >>>family history
    Diabetes 2 for 15 years well managed with Metformin.
    -in early 2016 i dropped almost 30 pounds of my weight to about 180 pounds
    BMI=30.5
    all above conditions continued
    - in October 2019 my GFR dropped to 47
    BMI= 30.
    i managed the weight for 4 years
    Worked out almost daily, walking and treadmill.
    After seeing few of your videos i looked even more and deeper into the subject of CKD and it became apparent to me that my current kidney doctor is a waste of time and almost incompetent. He has not gave any advice or whatsoever for over 4 years. he refused to adjust my medication and i was especially concerned about the diuretic that was making me dehydrated. I have seen the guy every 6 months for 4 years with blood work and probably 70% of times i was dehydrated. That is at least that he told me about. This is when i was drinking 2-3 liters of water daily, and getting up 3 times at night to urinate. he kept on telling me to drink more water.
    Things have really irritated me when i was seeing my family doctor and he always complemented me on how great job i do managing Diabetes 2 with my A1C being steady 5.3-5.5.
    he said "you doing such a great job with metformin that if i would know you and prescribe you Metformin i would not even know you have diabetes 2"
    A week later i go to "my kidney specialist" and he tells me. "...your diabetes have taken a toll on your kidneys and their function declined to GFR 47, etc"
    This is when i decided to see some other kidney doctor. One that actually took notes and listened.
    -November 04, 2019 first visit
    BMI=30.5
    A1c=5.5
    GFR=47
    New Doctor has done following:
    Removed diuretic completely
    Reduced Metformin from 2000mg/day to 1000mg/day
    removed Simvastatin completely.
    keep 80g of protein a day or less.
    eat protein in smaller portions. not at once.
    low salt. below 1500mg per day.
    -December 16,2019
    Lost 10 pounds of weight at 171 now (1200 calories a day balanced diet, lowered carbs intake dramatically)
    BMI=29.3
    A1c=5.2
    GFR=55
    Almost perfect cholesterol levels.
    Very hight Blood pressure 160/100 (possibly effect of removing diuretic)
    changed BP meds to almopidine/benz 20mg ?? not sure a spelling here.
    increased worked out to 5 times a week cardio on elliptical machine 500 calories burn each time. 45 minutes
    -April 13, 2020
    Weight=160
    BMI=27.46
    A1c=5.3
    GFR=64
    perfect Cholesterol levels
    BP 130/80
    Working on weight loss to 150 pounds target as per my doctor
    As per BMI standard i should be at 145 pounds or below.

      Congrats on regaining so much kidney function! You had it really touch - both blood sugar and blood pressure challenges. I'm glad to hear you changed doctors - very few things upset me more than doctors who are not actively helping their patients. It's amazing how much of a difference a good doctor can make. Your A1c is also fantastic - great job on that! Without knowing your history, no one would suspect you were diabetic with that A1c. Thanks for sharing your story - it really helps other kidney warriors to see others doing well.

    My father is suffering from ckd stage 5.I really have lot of questions regarding how to maintain my dads heath.He is 70 years old.November 2018 he had cellulitis on left leg and was treated and his gfr was above 60.On sep 2019 my dad had giddiness and sweating and his sugars were low and he was started on Iv dextrose injections.Blood parameters revealed elevated renal parameters and urine showed plenty of pus cells Empirical antibiotics were started and urine and blood cultures were sent which showed klebsiella growth.He was initiated on hemodialysis in view of high creatinine and pottasium and breathing difficulty.He required dialysis on alternate days and femoral catheter was removed once creatinine was stabilized.USG ABD showed right small kidney.They have explained us that dialysis might be needed in near future.In february 2019 he had UTI and he was feeling dizzy and we rushed to hospital where they did ijv catheter for dialysis and dicor 40 mg,metoz 5mg,sodalog 500 mg,renal mv,bio d3 plus,trajenta 5 mg,coenzyme bio 10,injection larinject(erythropoeitin)200 mg iv in 100 ml and injection dariplus 40 mg was given.and my dad started having dialysis 2 times in a week.At time of admission to hospital his creatinine was 8 and pottasium was high.On april 9th he was having low blood pressure and 3 days prior all his reports were normal but they used catheter was taking blood sample for blood tests and gave erythropoetin through the ijv and after 3 days when admitted they said its probably due to catheter related blood stream infection and they have prescribed iv imicrit for infection for 15 days and dialysis thrice a week.I am confused because if he is normal till aug 2019 is it the infections that caused the ckd?what is that i can do to improve my dads health?what are the tipe i need to take care about his diet?

    Hi 👋 James my Husband Larry cannot get his blood work or Urine labs done because of this Beer Virus 🦠 so we are going to FaceTime on April 23, we are really excited 😆 his Kidney Specialist wants to see how well Larry is actually doing without seeing him in the office, Thank Goodness for Technology 👨🏼‍🦳👩🏻‍🦳

      I've been doing the same thing with my doctors - but I really do miss not being able to get labs. I've been taking Renadyl now for over 6 months and am so excited to see the results. I feel absolutely amazing and I know my numbers have improved even more.
      Make sure Larry is staying hydrated. It's easy to drink less while we are all staying home more. Good luck!

    at 57:16, the girl disappears for good and we never see her again.. u can see she's falling asleep as her eyes can't remain open. she's fighting it. She was bored and she didn't even say goodbye to anyone. she just took off.

      She actually had a hard stop and had to go. With most interviews, you expect it to be difficult to get the guest to provide enough conversation to fill the entire hour...and we ended up going for over an hour and a half, which required her to have to message Steve and jump off the call. Hope you enjoyed the conversation and learned some insight behind Dadvice TV.

      @DADVICETV  4 роки тому

      Jen and I do a live chat every Tuesday at 6pm EDT here on UA-cam (and Facebook and Twitch). If you have notifications turned on (click the bell icon under a video) you will get an email when we start the stream countdown (about 6-8 minutes before the stream starts). Other live shows will be listed on the homepage of DadviceTV.com - for example, next week we have Jen on Tuesday and a Nephrologist (an awesome one) on Wednesday!
      I see you also signed up as a member - THANK YOU. Make sure you have notifications turned on so that you also get emails of members only live sessions. Those are less formal and typically shorter (though I have had some in the past go over 2 hours as I kept answering questions). Your membership helps so much!

      It is important to eat a balanced diet so that your body gets the nutrients it needs. A dietitian can be a huge help at doing that, and making certain your are not missing key nutrients. Give your doctor a call and get a referral to a dietitian with experience working with kidney patients.

      That is pretty much what I did (and have done with a number of things that haven't worked). Make sure and store your Renadyl in the refrigerator and take 2 tables daily for 3 months. Then get your labs done and see the results! Of everything I've done, this has been the easiest and fastest way to lower my BUN and Creatinine, which boosted my GFR. Make sure you also get plenty of fiber while taking Renadyl - fiber is like food for the good bacteria. I can't wait to hear your results!

      The honest answer is: No one knows. Anyone who says there is a max you can recover is just guessing. This may not sound like a great answer, but it means there is no max to hold you back. Stay focused on your diet, avoid bad habits that cause damage (smoking, NSAIDs, etc.), manager your blood sugar and blood pressure, and you will be on a great path. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't get better. And if you hit a wall, see what other options may be available. I hit a wall and then added Renadyl which got me past that wall and got me improving even more!
