💡I have seen some plot holders (Jessie @ plot 37) turn a pallet on its side so you can use it to hold shoves, branches, bamboo canes - you can slide them down into it in an upright position. So if you are stripping branches to use later, might be a way to store them and have them out of the way. Looks great ❤🎉❤
Hi Emma it’s good to make woodchip great idea you could also leave a small pile of sticks wood and leaves for animals like hedgehogs for the winter. Don’t disturb it all winter maybe near the hedge boundary as all the creatures that live around there need somewhere to make their home for winter. That’s what we do under the pear and apple trees and then we can clear some of it in spring wen winter is defo over.
Hi Emma binge watcher here while off with covid. Instead of hiring a chipper to make bark which you get for free anyway..how about turning the branches into a dead hedge. I have made one that borders my plot like a fence but is really good for all wildlife, including birds and hedgehogs. It will take all your branches n anything else you chop down. Google ..dead hedging and I think the 1st one that comes up is the RSPB.
No need to dig those potatoes yet Emma there's still plenty of growth left in them despite the slight touch of blight . Be sure to put something heavy over all the plastic you dug up in case it all disappears in the next storm . Just pile all the longer pieces of branch at one side you'll need them for wigwams etc next year.
Ground plastic stack in one area.. Sticks/branches next to it, Clear small area at a time. We have a third of an acre that overwhelmed me…friend said only concentrate on small areas ,and it’s easier to cope with. but keep organised storage areas
Aww Emma, ive watched you battle through to clear your first plot, i know you will succeed with this 2nd 1. I have great admiration for you! Some people think you need help, because your a woman. I disagree. You've got this, you're doing fantastic & good on you for taking on a 2nd plot ❤❤
You can also use the long wood branches as support for new plants or make a fence or sutch. We made a rose bow out or it and works amazingly + it looks nice :)
Soil looks great weed free make your beds plan them then put beds around cardboard and compost then woodchip in between. If you leave uncovered for long the light will draw up the weeds very quickly
You’re doing great ignore those people who say it’s too much, it’s not, I’ve done it. Maybe as you have a lot of plastic it might be an idea to cover the far end in plastic and hold it down with buckets that fill up,with rain, or tyres (both easy to move when the water is tipped out.) that way you can tackle it in smaller bites. And it would be somewhere to put the trees on top until you are ready to hire a shredder. When you have the first bit under control you can remove the plastic and the lot of the weeds will be dead. What do you think? Gill
I know a thousand people have already said this, but I'll add my voice to the chorus - you have taken on a lot of work, and it can't all be done by one person in one day. Or even a week. Or two. You're doing brilliantly!!! This is just the part of the journey where it's like going up on a roller coaster. Seems to take forever, and then the reward (down side of the coaster) is like flying. You'll get there with your attitude of taking it slow and steady. Best way to do so many things. Sending cheers and encouragement from this side of the Atlantic!
Emma, why don’t you use the tree trunk sections as an edge to a raised bed….. then the long straight sections for canes, the twigs will be perfect as pea sticks too…. The leaves you could bag up and make leaf mould …. Then and odd bits could be used to make a bug station…. Saves money and will look really cool
you need to ask your Husband for his cordless jigsaw to cut the tree branches smaller and get him to help you sort your plot it is hard work , I have said that I would wish that the Veg grow just like the weeds do but it don't happen , we need to learn from the weeds , by removing the black weed covers it will be good soil underneath but you have got to get the weed rootes out or burn them , you need to winter dig now for spring , you need to take it a bit at a time to succeed . Best regards Tony
Go Emma. You are great to watch. So entertaining and funny. Little and often wins the race. It's a marathon not a sprint. You are doing great and you will get it the way you want it!
A great Mad hatters tea party quote to bare in mind "You may not be able to take less than anything, but you can take more" ❤ keep going you're doing great 😊
Hi Emma. Thank you for your videos and the work you put in! I just ordered one of your planners. My friend and I have been working on our plot, which both working full time, for two years and it's still very much a work in progress! It's all about enjoying the process and, like you said in the video, taking it slow and steady :)
love the soil moving idea, it already excists as a vacum truck tho. i've used em before sucking up cravel and soil, you head would fit inside the pipe. then it can shoot it out the back again off a convayer a great distance, tens of meters 😆😆😂😂🤣🤣 🙌💚👍
Sweet cherry pie Emma lesson get chainsaw battery one not as mad petrol one make your job much better but be cary full chainsaw can can cut trees as well as you!! 🍒😁
Soil hoover, try your wheelbarrow, fill it with the soil from the raised beds then put it wherever you want it. Slow and steady Emma, you will get there.
Can I recommend a Japanese pruning saw (several on the market)for taking down any trees/shrubs? I use a double sided one,not expensive and it's saved me hours of effort. So satisfying to use and less tiring than trying to do it with a wood saw. Looking forward to the next episode.
Hi Emma please get some help digging and clearing I fear for your health before you heart yourself but you are doing a great job a little often is the way ❤
Love your videos Emma. . ❤ but I remember the allotment council provides free woodchips. So y dnt you make a sturdy beans trellis? You do need branches to make structures
Good things take time. Just plan your work then work your plan. Do a section each visit and you will get there. Great video Emma. Keep up the good work.
make a fire out of a beer barrel. It needs to be thick. drill holes in it on the bottom and also around the sides. put it on three bricks so air can get in underneath. put a chimney top on. use newspaper and small sticks to start a quick burn and then you can put leaves and woody material in it and it burns quickly down to inches of ash which you can use on your plot. When it dies down put the chimney lid on to make the smoke less.
Interestingly I was watching an vlog of yours building the shed and as you were walking back and forth with all the panels, you were walking past your new plot when it had a polytunnel and was looking a whole lot better then. Worth a look back.
My link has vanished but Toolstation do a good cheap garden shredder for under a ton. Worth a look Emma. It won't so the tree but will sort most of the branches and whatnot.
Hey, Emma! Love watching how you transform the new plot! Also while the branches are still fresh and bendy you can make a natural fence out of them, to separate pathway from your allotment!
May be you don't want to know this !! but that tree you cut down was a bush its a hazel nut !!it will grow back nextyear at twice the speed you will have to dig out the rutes and they go down very deep or make afire and hope you kill the roots
You’re doing great, apologies if I’ve already said this but that plastic will work really well over your compost bins, they’ll keep the rain off and heat in. Then as long as it doesn’t get too dry it will speed up the decomposition process xx
You should try to use the ground muc for you root vegetables because its full of so many healthy micro organisms. Also it allows a stronger hold to the roots which will give you stronger plants
Emma, I'd definitely recommend 'Cara' maincrop potato variety, I've done them the last two years now, they excellent growers and taste lovely, a rteally good all-rounder, good for baking, roasting etc... My tomatoes got blight this year and the potatoes were right next to them and they didn't get blight at all.
Nice job on the new plot! It will get there. As a side note could Einstein be upset because he had a nest in the trees youve taken down? I hope not but maybe an idea?
My Christmas potatoes got blight too, I had to pull them up, got a decent harvest and they were still delicious, they don’t store for long if they’ve had blight so enjoy before Christmas xx
Hi Emma, if you’ve had rain then the fungal spore will have gone down into the soil. Same has happened to my crop and everything needs to go compost, potato’s and foliage and dont put on the compost bin! I’ve got 30 bags ready for the tip! 🙁
Hi Emma has anyone suggested oiling the blade on your saw cos that would make it much easier to saw and stop it sticking I've used veg oil or butter if I haven't got other oil and it works perfectly fine
How differently do you feel preparing this plot compared to the first plot? Loved this vlog. I'm using last year's planner on my veggie garden as I don't have an allotment. It's been such a help, I'll be getting another for Xmas. X
Hi Emma I have just ordered my planner 2024 and can't wait for it to arrive, looking forward to making notes and plan bits in it, keep up all your hard work, it will be worth it in the long run
Another great video, thanks Emma. Absolutely not telling you what to do, (how could I, I’m a newbie too!!!) but just thinking - you are always going to need mulch for somewhere on your plot, or at home so, for the amount you will spend on hiring a snazzy one, why not invest in one for your allotments? Argos start from about £80 ish which is not a bad one, or you could spend a bit more for a better model. I have the Sovereign brand one and it is just fine. Nothing earth-shattering but does what it says on the tin. Just a thought. Also, got my planner today and I’m well excited to start using it on my garden (I don’t have an allotment). Looking forward to your next video 😊
Just received my 2024 planner and I love it! Loving your content and humour Emma. Please keep them coming! Thank you for sharing your plotsbtw: what about trying to weave a fence from those tree branches? Might be worth a go. If it doesn’t work chip it :)
Hello Emma I'm on the last bit of my allotment clearing now then I just got to put my paths in but what is a good thing to use for the paths keep up all the great work Emma great video as always
Maybe you are just overwhelmed and your brain is just trying to figure out the best solution to get the garden into a manageable state. You are doing well in my opinion.
don't hire a chipper em, to chip something that size you'll need a pretty hefty machine. contact a local Arborist who had a chipper, and ask them to chip it, tell them they can leave the chips on site and you'll only have to pay for the labour. tell them you'll get the free advertising on your you tube channel and you never know they may give you a discounted rate. good luck
Tree surgeons use wood chippers
💡I have seen some plot holders (Jessie @ plot 37) turn a pallet on its side so you can use it to hold shoves, branches, bamboo canes - you can slide them down into it in an upright position. So if you are stripping branches to use later, might be a way to store them and have them out of the way.

Great idea, I have used dead branches to make a fence.
Great idea. I agree
Get well soon covids horibble 😢

Just pile all the longer pieces of branch at one side you'll need them for wigwams etc next year.
Hi Emma, Those branches would make ideal wigwams for beans etc.
Some of the thinner branches, tidy up and keep for bean poles next year or for your sweet pea teepee.
I decompose regularly Emma, loving your channel, god luck with the plot 😊
You are doing such a great job on the new part of your allotment, well done you
Ground plastic stack in one area..

Couldn't some of those branches be bean sticks, or part of a rustic pumpkin arch? Thanks for these videos I know it is really hard work clearing land!
You can also use the long wood branches as support for new plants or make a fence or sutch. We made a rose bow out or it and works amazingly + it looks nice :)

Well done...👌
Lovely hair!
I started singing ‘one potato.. ‘ at exactly the same time as you. 😂
You could call your soil hoover thingy a SOILER 😂....+ when you have a sale or info stuff, call them SOILER ALERTS 😂
Get some tree stakes to support your apple tree they are not very expensive it will help and you can hammer it into the soil xxx
you need to ask your Husband for his cordless jigsaw to cut the tree branches smaller and get him to help you sort your plot it is hard work , I have said that I would wish that the Veg grow just like the weeds do but it don't happen , we need to learn from the weeds , by removing the black weed covers it will be good soil underneath but you have got to get the weed rootes out or burn them , you need to winter dig now for spring , you need to take it a bit at a time to succeed .

Go Emma. You are great to watch. So entertaining and funny. Little and often wins the race. It's a marathon not a sprint. You are doing great and you will get it the way you want it!
Dig up your spuds and store in big potato Bach’s keep dry and cool
Its looking better already at least your concerned enough to want to do something about itxx
Take one home put it in your garden and come Christmas put lights on they look well cool x
Or chip it and you can do ur paths x
A great Mad hatters tea party quote to bare in mind "You may not be able to take less than anything, but you can take more" ❤ keep going you're doing great 😊

Are you not allowed bonfires on your plots , that's one way to get rid of all the branches and trees, then you could put the wood ash on your beds
Hi Emma please get some help digging and clearing I fear for your health before you heart yourself but you are doing a great job a little often is the way ❤

You done so well don't give .just do a little bit every day

Biochar! Get that soil fertility up, water retention, microbial and fungal life. Watch that plot come to life after 4 years of neglect
Burn the branches and make biochar!! Spread it over your beds 👌 you will get the smallest wood chip pile ever from that small amount of wood
Keep going... You'll make it 👌🌱
Oh my lord! The “peatato” had me in stitches Emma! Keep up the good work on the new plot! Love the vids as always!
I got a small wood chipper on Facebook marketplace for a tenner. They even delivered it to my door free of charge 😊
Interestingly I was watching an vlog of yours building the shed and as you were walking back and forth with all the panels, you were walking past your new plot when it had a polytunnel and was looking a whole lot better then. Worth a look back.
Adding rich soil to the current ground is good but only using rich soil can cause root damage
My link has vanished but Toolstation do a good cheap garden shredder for under a ton. Worth a look Emma. It won't so the tree but will sort most of the branches and whatnot.
Yes, you're always inspiring us!
Looking good, lots of hard work
Hey, Emma! Love watching how you transform the new plot! Also while the branches are still fresh and bendy you can make a natural fence out of them, to separate pathway from your allotment!
If it’s any consolation, all my Xmas potatoes have been got by blight. Harvested a handful, all the size of grapes!
I would use the tree for making a fence border like a wiker fence ! And for the soil hoover I would call it a SOILER! 😊
You are doing really well 🙌💚❤️💜💙
Thank you Emma lovely Video x
May be you don't want to know this !! but that tree you cut down was a bush its a hazel nut !!it will grow back nextyear at twice the speed you will have to dig out the rutes and they go down very deep or make afire and hope you kill the roots

The soil hoover already exists!
I fear for your safety using a woodchipper, they can be lethal. Bean poles and fencing are a safer option. Stay safe and good luck.
the only thing we have to fear is fear itself
@@BeyondBeetroot one of my favourite quotes.

Now the wood chipper is great but it comes out very very fine not like the wood chip u have on your paths. But its great to put into the beds.😊
Nice job Emma one foot at a time already big progress xx
I think it’s a bit early to pull them up you need to give them time to swell
Ha ha ha -a soil hoover, Genius Emma xxx
your doing a great job keep it up 🙂
It’s looking amazing. I love these videos ❤
Hi the stem is still green so you can take out the potatoes and enjoy them good luck

There's a saw for wet wood and one for dry wood they are slightly different but oil be good as well
Candle wax works too. (Or get a mini chain saw!)
I didn't get many potatoes maybe the weather do you think 🤔
How differently do you feel preparing this plot compared to the first plot? Loved this vlog. I'm using last year's planner on my veggie garden as I don't have an allotment. It's been such a help, I'll be getting another for Xmas. X
emma i saw a spider today near the decking the size of my thumb i was no happy ,, eebbeejeebies
Hi Emma I have just ordered my planner 2024 and can't wait for it to arrive, looking forward to making notes and plan bits in it, keep up all your hard work, it will be worth it in the long run
I really wana come and help you get the plot cleared and sorted 🙈 I don’t even know you
I live in South Yorkshire and I wanna help too!
Once the plastic is removed, could you hire a soil cultivator to go over it. Love what you're doing, but you need rest as well.
Another great video, thanks Emma.

Also, got my planner today and I’m well excited to start using it on my garden (I don’t have an allotment). Looking forward to your next video 😊
Keep going young Lady your doing a great job . p.s your spuds was bigger than mine as mine was only size of a 5 p
Hi Emma, use a torch to singe the edges of the ground sheet to stop the fraying.
Blow torch with flames not a light torch. Just saying to avoid confusion 😂
❤
Would lighter fix the fraying ? I believe it would
Decompose..... 😅😅😅😅😅😅 sorry please don't do that, or at least if you do, don't video it !!!!!! Seriously, you're doing brilliantly. We love it.
Bon appetite Emma 😅
Hi Emma... Uhhh, your planner is already out of stock..... There is a symbol under the page that said: reading age: 5-18 years 🤔😂 Estella (NL)
Were do you go to the restroom at ? Do you have a out side pee house
Maybe you are just overwhelmed and your brain is just trying to figure out the best solution to get the garden into a manageable state. You are doing well in my opinion.
The pumpkin won't get much bigger in my experience
Please do not go down the wood chipper route, I fear for your safety.
Hi Emma YOU NEED HELP one day with friends and family should make all the difference xx
A Bow Saw would be be far better than that handsaw.. ;)
don't hire a chipper em, to chip something that size you'll need a pretty hefty machine. contact a local Arborist who had a chipper, and ask them to chip it, tell them they can leave the chips on site and you'll only have to pay for the labour. tell them you'll get the free advertising on your you tube channel and you never know they may give you a discounted rate. good luck
SoilVac
Dont go wasting all the bean pole stuff.....OMG ...wish I had some 7-9 foot bean poles last spring.........Sort them out lass🤔🤔🤔
Gosh careful no one steps on one of those pegs, maybe stack them somewhere safe or remove all the pegs ouch😖
