  • For Sport Touring there is no other bike that directly competes against this, sure there are some that you can compare to this and I do in this video but they are not pure sport/touring machines.

The 2011 Monster 1100 evo is still today my favorite Ducati to ride. Air cooled (the last big Monster before they went liquid cooled and got heavier, so very light for the engine size) and all the electronics that we have today, albeit the first gen, still advanced electronics for the time. This was when Ducati's were still simple and we normal humans could work on them and not have to pay an expensive mechanic to do the maintenance.
It is a "riders" bike, period. Not many Ducatis are made to be ridden, this one IS! Enjoy it, take care of it and it will give you miles and miles of smiles 😁👌👍
      take care,
      Scott

Thanks for this (as always) honest review, Scott 👍. As I miss my old CBF600 in a modern version (currently riding a 650R), there's no middle class Sports Tourer in the market that really convinces me (all lack some features, and/or make a cheap impression to me). Looking forward to see the Tiger 660 in 2022!

A2 license is plenty strong 175 km/h indicated top speed and most of the torque accelerates the bike beautifully!
They cut off fueling at around 7,500 rpm which is plenty for all road applications in my book 😎

I have no clue as to why the Japanese OEMs do things like this to the North American market. But one guess is that they think it won't sell in the American market, well at least well enough to make money. 😒 "small" or "smaller" usually does not do well in the U.S., especially with touring bikes 😒
I think Yamaha is missing out on bringing in younger potential customers to the brand by not bring this to the American market. They've been selling this in Europe since 2016. So I don't think it'll get to the U.S. any time soon 😥

Good review. About the windscreen, I think the buffeting is mostly wind coming up from lower down, about knee-high. Due to the lack of faring there.
About the jerky throttle, could be a loose chain or an ECU issue.

This is the one Yamaha still not sold in the US market and I’ve been asking Yamaha North America for years to bring it here, especially after the update. It may have no true competitor, but it’s following the trend began by the Versys 650 over a decade ago. The NC750X is the probably the closest competitor for now, but the upcoming Tiger Sport 660 will be a direct competitor.

Hi Scott, i am looking for a motorcycle that is not to heavy and with decent handling. 2 up most of the time. Doesn’t need lots of power. I was looking for a tracer 7 gt or v strom 650. Maybe the new tiger 660 sport or the nc750x. Which one would you recommend. I am coming from a super sport 1000cc. Learned the hard way that I don’t need that much power on the road. Especially for 2 up and the speed limits in the Netherlands looking for a good motorcycle.. budget would be around 10k. thanks

As always, pure joy to hear you explain and guide us riders through your reviews.
My heart is saying Tracer 7, my mind is saying NC750x just because it has a bit more features (Traction control and ride by wire - 4 riding modes mainly), and it's a tad bit cheaper. Being 163cm (without riding boots) I also prefer the 800mm seat of the Honda, but jeez that Tracer gets my heart racing! What do you think?

@@keithd87 yep. Got me a nice nc750x 2021. It is not as powerful as the tracer 7 and definitely has less biting power on the front breaks BUT got it almost 2k cheaper than the tracer, the average gas consumption is a bit lower.
Using it as a daily driver and touring bike, it is spot on for me. Right I am on the 5000km mark (and counting since I'm on a gas break 🤣)
BTW, the riding modes on the 2021 version, really change the bike! Sport is awesome to have some weekend fun, rain makes it stupid safe, standard for daily drives 👌

Hi. Let me ask what do you think about the dynamics compering with the NC 750 x (2021) which you tested a few weeks ago? I shortly tested both, and did not feel a huge difference until 100km/h. Yamaha seems a bit more agile. Both has the same price (Honda with dct). But Honda gives you more for your money. Which do you pick?

    •  2 роки тому +2

I am 180cm and found the Tracer 7 more comfy also. NC felt cramped. But NC was all the power I'd need.

  • @HonzaKuranda

Have it from 2020, did over 15K km and this is day to day machine, does its job perfectly, I love playing with it, almost like on bicycle as it goes to maneuvring. Perfect for city riding. Fuel consumption - 3.8 l per 100km, absolutely no complaints, ride smooth, not idela for longer trips on highways and definitely, you will change the windscreen, it SUCKS. Also seat can be more comfy, thinking about changing it. And as you get better driver, you start to think about more powerful engine, meaning you would want to upgrade the bike :) But at the same time you dont want because its lovely thing. BTW - Michelin tires - wow, after 15K I think it s still like new, they last and last.

I was not aware of this model Tracer - as a Tenere owner, it feels like Yamaha took a Tenere, stripped off the ADV accessories, and replaced them with Street accessories and voila - the Tracer 7. The frame geometry, stance and performance numbers all seem identical to the Tenere. Exactly the same engine.

@@NothingToProve Good answer. I have 150hp+ Ducati ( and others) in the garage but I love riding my 700. And every time that I ride the 9 I realise that other than that brilliant CP3 engine ( and possibly cruise control, although I have a throttle lock which is OK ) it not actually an easy decision between the two based purely on riding. The 700/7 is a lot better than people think, and when you get to the 9 then for the extra weight one is into a new category which includes all the other sports tourers. If you can tell me which I prefer than please do as I can't decide....

Good engineering, but on the cheap, uninspiring on looks. That tail does not look in place. No upside down forks. The kawa 650 looks amazingly more bike, in looks, paint, and components, in comparison.

why can't we have tracer 7 in the states. makes me so angry.

    • @NothingToProve

Well, when I lived in the States for the first 40 years of my life I didn't know why OEMs did this either but now after living in Europe for the last 10 years, I've learned that smaller bikes or anything "smaller" does not sell well in the States. Americans have a reputation or attitude for "go big or go home" mentality and small capacity bikes and cars just don't sell well in the States.
But I still do have this mentality too, BUT my last bike I bought (2 yrs ago) the BMW 900 XR, going from a KTM1290 Super Duke R, so I'm starting to change too or it could be that I'm over 50 now and power is no longer #1 on my list.

You could place it in the F750GS range of BMW, both being a twin engine in the mid range of their sports tourer bikes. But the BMW would win in all segments. I wonder how you see that “competition”.

F750 - 30kg heavier & 2,400 euro more for top spec model. It doesn't win there

@@stevecoaster2360 some brands are more expensive. But also get more, features that are real desirable when touring. Ok, the weight I agree, it’s much less on the Tracer7, but it’s also a small bike with the cons of less space, less suited for 2up, short wheelbase. In my opinion the Tracer 7 is the perfect starter on a budget commuter 1up bike that needs to carry some stuff in the panniers. But in case of a more experienced, more budget and longer distance touring and upgrade it really falls short.
