I've had two VStrom DL1000 motorcycles over the last 12 years. You can't wear them out, I just bought a new one because I caught a year end closeout deal that was too good to pass up. My old one ran better the day I sold it than the day I bought it. Very reliable motorcycle. My first one was a 2009, my new one is a 2019.
Had my V Strom 650 10 years now, a second gen model. In 2018/9 I rode it 2 up around the world. No reliability issues, comfortable and 70mpg. Planning a round Europe trip this year.
I really like the style of this video, you spent a lot of time with the exhaust notes, but you did it extremely well and it really did make a difference. Looks and sound are important on a motorcycle, even if they sound trivial to some.
I bought a V-strom 4 years ago and I’m not tempted to change it with any of these other bikes. 16k miles no problems at all 75mpg. Yes I’m not keen on the front but you can’t see that when you’re riding it. Best feature is the engine and reliability. I’ll be keeping mine. Doesn’t hurt that I have a great dealership in my locality.
That's better than what I'm working with mpg wise. The 2022 versys was rated at 70mpg but it's more like 58 to 60 and that's keeping it 3k or lower rpm avg...
I had a 2014 vstrom 650 with 61,000 trouble free miles. I just could not buy the new model because of the beek. I went with a Kawasaki versys 1000 and love it. It is everything the vstrom was and a lot more.
I got the 2022 versys 650 as my first streetbike but iv raced dirtbikes for as long as I can remember. I'd love to ride others but as far as I can tell the versys doesn't have any problems with it. I'd prefer a more fun bike like a super sport or something super peppy like a KTM Duke or yamaha mt series bike but as for comfort with all around reliability the versys has all the boxes checked at a decent price.
Thank you for the detailed comparison! I considered the NC750x and the Versys when I got my VStrom (the T700 is not available here). My wife chose the VStrom as soon as she tried the pillion seat. The Tiger is tempting, but what scares me away from it and other "premium" brands is the cost of maintenance/parts. The Trident is supposed to have been designed to cost less to maintain; I hope the Tiger 660 achieves that too. Then if it passes the wife test, it will be unbeatable for me!
I'm glad you liked it. Vstrom passenger comfort is legendary among these 5 bikes. The Tiger would be good, but beating the Vstrom would be difficult in that area.. Good luck 👍
@@RiderXp I don't think the ride is the problem. Just looking at the seat tells you a lot. The passenger area of the seat is very small and also too high. My pillion found it a lot less comfortable than my 2000 ZX6R Ninja. I suppose Triumph were thinking that nobody is going to do any 2-up touring on a middleweight. I have done it on a NC750 with great success but that bike doesn't have enough spice for me.
Love my '22 black 650 XT Adventure. Wouldn't trade for any of these bikes. I'm sure they're all fine machines, but after having 2 3rd gen 650's, these bikes continue to amaze me. From being overloaded with gear and my gf up long, steep grades on the highway in 105 deg. weather to twistier than twisty mountain roads the little VTwin never gives up. @@henkvessies6967 hello namesake, next week avb at our beloved friends at the cbr. I really love the v strom, but i also really like the look of the new versys 650. Or the cb500x, but it has a little less power and is on the smaller side, whilst im not.
NC750X - actual fuel consumption is 56 to 58MPG with a top case and very tall aftermarket windshield and the only engine that is basically vibration free at all rpms but you give up power as it is adequate but the least powerful of the bunch. Versys is very very buzzy and the triumph should be the smoothest with 3 cylinder but it's not. SV650 is also very smooth and tried and true engine.
My Versys 650 is certainly not buzzy at all. Perhaps you are confusing the 2015+ models with the older version. Kawasaki did a lot of work with vibration reduction on the newest version.
The sound of a Triumph triple is sweet, sweet music. I only need 150 miles on a tank since I'm getting off the bike at that point whether I need fuel or not.
That's a fair point. Rarely have I ever gone more than a 150 miles on a stretch except when I attempted saddle sore challenge many years ago and even then, I don't think I rode longer than 300 kms (~186 miles) at a stretch. By the way, I did a follow up video with back to back test rides that you may enjoy watching, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/DTZ1QV4uGwA/v-deo.html
I’ve got a 2017 VStrom and wouldn’t swap it for anything. Triumph are at the $$$ end in Australia. Suzuki win for me. Also, I’m getting 500km per tank on average. I am doing a lot of Hwy driving to work however
That's awesome, I'm sure you prefer to ride sensibly as well. I like to keep the range estimates a little conservative so no one's stranded because of my optimistic estimates.
Nice video, Rider XP. Very thorough and detailed. I ride a V-Strom 650 myself, it's a solid and reliable tourer, never disappointed me. I've tried the Tracer too, awesome bike, but a bit more expensive in Germany. The Versys is probably the closest to the V-Strom. The Tiger is great with many bells and whistles, looks amazing too, but just too pricey. Depends on what one likes and can afford. Thanks for this comparison. Cheers, Govind
Yo Rider XP! This video is probably the best comparison video I've seen for this class of bikes. Thank you! I have a VStrom 650 and I'm having a blast on it! I traded away an FJR1300 for it and I love that it's 180lbs lighter and thankful that it has 1/2 the HP! I believe it'd be a very good 1st bike for anyone because it has a very tame character, yet in the hands of an experienced biker it can still get up a go quite well. It can cruise at 80mph all day long. The seat is very comfortable, too, enabling high mileage days without too much monkey butt.
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it. I recently test rode the Vstrom back to back with some other bikes and made another test ride and comparison video. It has made me think that the Vstrom might be the bike I’ve been looking for. Here’s a link to the new test ride video: ua-cam.com/video/DTZ1QV4uGwA/v-deo.html
For me it's between the Triumph and the V-Strom. I'm looking for a midweight touring bike that can handle gravel roads as well as tarmac. V-Strom is the front runner but the Triumph triple can't be ignored.
Looks: Versys, Tiger, Vstrom, Tracer, Nc750x...Sound Versys and Tiger tied for first, Tracer then whatever after that...As far as weight, I disagree that the weight doesn't matter on the go. Here on the US highways, there are a lot of Semi-tractor trailers that create a LOT of wind, passing or being passed, and the extra weight is noticeably helpful. Now, I don't know about the fuel consumption of the other bikes in the real world, but I DO know that my Versys gets 55mpg. That's 302 miles on a tank (YMMV). The Triumph Tiger Sports 660 is a beautiful machine, but I'll stick with my Versys. Truly outstanding review (Once again, and as usual). Thanks, and keep up the great work!!
Thank you for such thorough comment and appreciation. About the weight, I was suggesting that a heavier bike isn't a disadvantage on the go. So yeah, you've highlighted a great point that on US highways, it's actually quite an advantage.
Bought my wee strom a year ago and with 21,000km I can say its a wonderful bike at 110km/hr I get about 380km per tank though riding 140km/hr about 320km per tank
Thanks for sharing. Fuel efficiency and range vary so much with riding style and conditions, it's good to learn about individual experience to develop a better perception of all aspects. Happy Riding!
Excellent comparison. I think they're all so close in price, performance, versatility. It might come down to who has the best dealer support, or best aftermarket support, or best deal available or just availability in your area.
Thanks! That makes a lot of sense. At the end of the day, it does boil down to personal preference and practical aspects like the ones you pointed out. Thanks for watching 👍
I love the tiger and the tracer. I would love a 3 cilinder, because I had a 2 cilinders bike and now I have a 1 cilinder one. The problem with the tiger is that the passenger's seat looks so tiny, and for touring it's not a good thing. This could be the reason why I could evaluate the tracer 900....
Great video, my last bike was the NC750X DCT and I absolutely loved it....I like all these bikes including the Tenere.... but I’m waiting patiently for the launch of the new Honda Africa Twin/Transalp... then I will make my decision on my next bike 👍
Pick up my Tiger 660 next week. Think everything will be great with the added accessories. (Sans cruise control ??) Planning a circumnavigation of USA in June-Aug. June can’t get here soon enough!
I would perhaps pick the Yamaha because of the biggest engine and lightest weight but the look and smootness of the inline 3 could turn me to the Triumph. Both luckily with a grown up 180 rear tire. By thinking of it, The Yamaha has the longest interval for valve checks and has Japanese reliability so i lean to the Yamaha in the end.
Yeah! Competition is getting stiffer in the space. Consumers would benefit from it as long as global supply chain can be managed to keep up with the demand
Thank you! I work pretty hard to put these videos together. Your appreciation and support means a lot. I’m working on bringing more valuable content soon, so please stay tuned.
That would be an interesting change. By design, the Tiger would win for touring, general comfort and carrying capacity. You might miss the inline 4 smoothness and power but a Triple is a lot of fun too.
congratulations good comparison with detail and complete and i tiger sport 660 will be my next touring bike after selling my last adventure kawasaki KLR650 few years ago,
to me the vstrom is the ugliest lol but only because of the headlamp. the NC750X has the integrated storage, which is an awesome feature. the tiger would be my 2nd choice after the NC.
I thought this would just be one more AI-generated comparison video in a swamp full of them on UA-cam, but this was surprisingly well planned, clever, and informative! I've been researching these bikes for several days now, and I learned a few new things I hadn't thought of before! :D
I’m no John Connor but I am fighting the machines, lol! Thank you for the kind words, i’m glad you found it helpful. I have since mustered up the confidence to come onscreen and prove that I’m human. Do watch my recent videos. Cheers!
Awesome video! I enjoyed the different exhaust notes hugely. I think the Tiger is the best of the lot both in looks, sound and specs with the Honda in second place and the vstrom in last place
Great job with the exhaust clips however as I recall the sound of my 650R 10 years ago the in-helmet sound was really really good. You can't capture it off the bike it's not the same. I still think of all my bikes Triples sound the best, my Duc sounds cool too but I have a Tiger800 with Arrow it's pretty cool.
Thanks! The in helmet sound is just a way different feeling than what can ever be captured in the video. I loved my CBR650F with a CS racing exhaust even with a baffle.
Looks: 1. Tiger 2. Tracer 3. Honda 4.versys 5. Vstrom Having said that if Kawasaki brought back the single light versys I would buy it in an instant over everything else. I regret not getting one with luggage in 2013. Now having owned hondas (cb500xa) I'd absolutely buy the NC750 as the engines are faultless and Honda are just so rediculously reliable
I love the chunky, brute sound of single and dual cylinders. Wish they were a little less vibrating yet I always pick them over 3 cylinders. In terms of sound of course.
That’s a great point when it comes to touring comfort. I do love 2 cycl bikes but mostly for some short fun rides. Over a long period when the idea is go cruise along, the buzz gets you.
@@RiderXp Yep. Especially, if you don't have cruise control, your right hand and fingers will start to feel numb about 45-50 mins later, no matter how loose you hold the throttle.
I just swopped my ktm 1190 for versys 650 2023, versys is for me better on longer trips on small roads, I can make easier longer distances 😊😊😊 and still sporty enough.
Nice, the ease of use that the 650cc motorcycles bring to the table compared to full sized ones is so underrated. Only properly experienced riders are able to appreciate that. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
I bought the triumph 660 in April and as a all rounder its very good but the throttle is terrible it could be the mapping but as the lind triumph company never calls back I have to assume it's the throttle itself
what about the throttle? are you talking about when it's idling and there's a bit of lag? I haven't noticed any issues while riding and clicking through gears and the fueling is actually quite good.
Agreed! I got the opportunity to ride all 3 Vstroms back to back, you may enjoy that video as well. Here’s the link ua-cam.com/video/ZDWVIzPHkR0/v-deo.htmlsi=nHXUKgxi6D9GYObv
Owned so many motorcycles over the years with way more power than any of these, but the Yamaha CP2 engine is simply a miracle. It's smooth, fun and as close to fault free an engine can be. Have ridden my gf:s MT07 on 0.28 liters/100km measured at the the gas station. Would any of the competition do that?
Late to the party but hey better late then never! :D Great review. Im so very very much torn between the Versys and the Tiger. Im having a rough time deciding which is gonna come home next month.
i just got a 2021 versys 650lt and i go over 240 miles to blinking fuel segment. i sofar get 61mpg i went to ocmd 190mi trip for bike week and just over 61mpg. it has way over the 250mi range riding decent.
My look choice difficult to get between triumph and yam, let’s say 1-triumph 2-yam 3 versys 4 v-strom ex-aqueo with the honda!! V-strolbalways found it kinda ugly. A pity I am sure as most people feedback is a great touring bike, great comfort.
The Vstrom actually rides the best in my opinion. Recently I got to test ride them all back to back and made this follow up video : ua-cam.com/video/DTZ1QV4uGwA/v-deo.html
In Europe (most of the World?) we do not use any weird meassurment like gallons per miles/kilometers or similar. It says nothing. We just use liter per 100km.
Merhaba tanıtım için teşekkürler peki Yamaha tracer 700 ve kawasaki verys 650 modelleri arasında kıyaslama yapabilirmisiniz bu 3 model içinden sizin tercihiniz hangisi olurdu
There are so many boxes that the Vstrom checks for so any people. No wonder it is among the most popular in its segment. Thanks for sharing, ride safe!
These points are in order of MY preference. looks: tiger, tracert, versys, vstrom, nc750 engine sound: triumph yoshimura, tiger660 stock, vstrom akrapovic, tracer 7 stock, vstrom stock. Other sounds are extremely annoying in my opinion.
Nice! Tiger is definitely gonna be a winner for more reasons than 1. I'm sure there are still going to be fans of the other bikes since they have proven themselves over year but at the end of the day, it's great for us riders that we have so many options and the competition is enabling that.
@@RiderXp sure! it looks like a great bike. Here in Brasil the triumph tiger already has a legendary name of itself (the big trail options at least) and there is no tracer700 to compete.
That’s a fair point. Over the years i have started to appreciate those things but i do keep saying that I’m a rider, not a mechanic so I need something that would give me peace of mind. But i do have friends who love working on their bikes. So at the end of the day, to each his own. Thanks for watching the video, hope you liked it.

I am doing a lot of Hwy driving to work however
I run my vstrom 650 over 250 miles on a tank no problem. Usually I start looking for a glass strain at 200 miles.
I’m glad you liked the video. Thanks for the support, means a lot to me. More useful content coming soon.
My exhaust note vote is for the Tracer 7 with Akra. The CP2 sound with an Akrapovic Ti system is awesome.
I like it too actually :)
Yoshimura is nice
Just because of 19” front wheel V Strom for me.
I have v strom and i love It.. but i would have more Power.. i think 85/90 HP it's enought.. and 850cc
It will be interesting to see how the 2022 Honda Transalp compares.
2024?
For me, the better looking by far is the tracer > versys > tiger > ncx750 > vstrom
Really like that you include the metric units and Indian market.
Absolutely! I’m glad you found that helpful. Thanks for supporting the channel, new video dropping soon..
For me it's between the Triumph and the V-Strom. I'm looking for a midweight touring bike that can handle gravel roads as well as tarmac. V-Strom is the front runner but the Triumph triple can't be ignored.
I have a 2018 V Strom great bike for long trips and general riding, love it.
The V-Strom seems to have better comfort, range and wind protection. But the Triumph Sport looks sexier, also is more lightweight.
Suzuki
Nice touch with the exhaust notes both stock and custom! I’m in!
Thanks!
Looks great, I'm eager to see what its reliability is like.
Loved the exhaust note part. Many miss out on this. Nice comparison, well compiled!
Thank you! I’m glad you found it useful.
Owning a Dl1000 2002 model I can say that vstrom is bulletproof.
Versys 650 best value for money..
Custom seat would be an easy solution if you really love the tiger.
Great video, my last bike was the NC750X DCT and I absolutely loved it....I like all these bikes including the Tenere.... but I’m waiting patiently for the launch of the new Honda Africa Twin/Transalp... then I will make my decision on my next bike 👍
Thank you. TransAlp would be interesting, i just hope it is more offroad oriented.
Almost February 2022 and still nothing
I prefer the modern classic/retro bikes but out of these it’s either the Kaw or the Triumph
Pick up my Tiger 660 next week. Think everything will be great with the added accessories. (Sans cruise control ??) Planning a circumnavigation of USA in June-Aug. June can’t get here soon enough!
That’s so cool! Congrats! Good luck with the ride 👍🏼
Is a center stand available?
Kawasaki 650cc exhaust sound doesn't have that character of big bike. Triumph always a different sweet sounding exhaust note.
Far, i’m pretty close to possibly picking up that engine in an XSR700. My choice is also between a Trident 660 & the XSR700.. We’ll know soon
Great video! I like the bags and top case of the Tiger 660. But no centre stand on a touring bike is a bit of a letdown.
Thanks for watching and liking. It is a good looking bike! I'm sure they will offer a center stand as an accessory.
All motorcycles should come with Center stands.
@@TheHomeExpert5 ppp
I think the center stand from Triumph is $325 + install
Versys 600 just announced new upgrades on the 2022 model, which is very similar to tiger 660. That would be an interesting comparison.
Yeah! Competition is getting stiffer in the space. Consumers would benefit from it as long as global supply chain can be managed to keep up with the demand
Great video with perfect exhaust sound. Better than other channel videos
Thank you! I work pretty hard to put these videos together. Your appreciation and support means a lot. I’m working on bringing more valuable content soon, so please stay tuned.
Best comparison video by far! 👍
Thank you! New video coming soon. Thanks for the support!
Looks like a pretty comprehensive win for the Tiger. Thinking on changing my cb650r for one this summer.
That would be an interesting change. By design, the Tiger would win for touring, general comfort and carrying capacity. You might miss the inline 4 smoothness and power but a Triple is a lot of fun too.
congratulations good comparison with detail and complete and i tiger sport 660 will be my next touring bike after selling my last adventure kawasaki KLR650 few years ago,
I'm glad you liked the vidoes, thanks for your support, more videos coming soon. And the Tiger Sport 660 is a great choice.. good luck!
to me the vstrom is the ugliest lol but only because of the headlamp.
the NC750X has the integrated storage, which is an awesome feature. the tiger would be my 2nd choice after the NC.
I've been a Honda fan for over 8 yrs now, but i do like anything that has two wheels... except scooters 😂
NC is on my list, hopefully in a year time.
Man you should be working in R & D department for Motorcycle manufacturers... your analysis is top notch....!!
Thanks man :)
The new Tiger will be released in the US right at the time I’ll be buying. So, I’m pretty excited to see how it stacks up to the others on this video.
Tiger 660 looks different on videos, is smaller
I thought this would just be one more AI-generated comparison video in a swamp full of them on UA-cam, but this was surprisingly well planned, clever, and informative! I've been researching these bikes for several days now, and I learned a few new things I hadn't thought of before! :D
I’m no John Connor but I am fighting the machines, lol! Thank you for the kind words, i’m glad you found it helpful. I have since mustered up the confidence to come onscreen and prove that I’m human. Do watch my recent videos. Cheers!
@@RiderXp Haha, yeah! I was really glad a real human was here, your video was exactly what I needed! :]
Awesome video! I enjoyed the different exhaust notes hugely. I think the Tiger is the best of the lot both in looks, sound and specs with the Honda in second place and the vstrom in last place
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it 👍
Why does the SV650 sound so much better than the V Strom?
Nc750 is way more efficient when it comes to fuel consumption than i think any other competetor in the class.
That is true. As they say in India about Hondas... Honda is Honda, nothing compares with it.
I'll go with the Tracer 1st and the V-Strom 2nd. The Triumph doesn't work for me at all.
Any facts?
The winner for me is easily the Triumph. 👍
It is quite a popular choice now!
A must watch video for anyone interested in this segment of bike, 👍
Thanks for the support
Great job with the exhaust clips however as I recall the sound of my 650R 10 years ago the in-helmet sound was really really good. You can't capture it off the bike it's not the same. I still think of all my bikes Triples sound the best, my Duc sounds cool too but I have a Tiger800 with Arrow it's pretty cool.
Thanks! The in helmet sound is just a way different feeling than what can ever be captured in the video. I loved my CBR650F with a CS racing exhaust even with a baffle.
Looks:
1. Tiger
2. Tracer
3. Honda
4.versys
5. Vstrom
Having said that if Kawasaki brought back the single light versys I would buy it in an instant over everything else. I regret not getting one with luggage in 2013. Now having owned hondas (cb500xa) I'd absolutely buy the NC750 as the engines are faultless and Honda are just so rediculously reliable
Best video ever on this subject, fantastic research and video.👍
Thanks you very much! Your appreciation makes all the effort & research worth it.
one of video about compare excellent that i never seen. Thanks you
I’m glad you liked it. Thanks!
In the fuel economy comparisons, my V-Strom got 500 kms in a single tank - outstanding!.
This is a really good comparison, and I liked the jiggling pictures during the sound test. I have now subscribed!
Very kind of you to notice and appreciate. Thanks for subscribing. Next video coming soon!
VSTROM650 ALL DAY, if you want reliability and confort for long trips.
Agreed! I got the opportunity to ride all 3 Vstroms back to back, you may enjoy that video as well. Here’s the link ua-cam.com/video/ZDWVIzPHkR0/v-deo.htmlsi=nHXUKgxi6D9GYObv
Can't go wrong with a Triumph Triple
After 200,000+ trouble free ks on 4 different Triumphs I am pretty sure you can't go wrong with any Triumph.
I wish Yamaha would bring the Tracer 700 to the US.
This is one NICE video !!
Keep it up !
Thank you very much!
Yeah I love that engine as well. Unfortunately the Tracer 7 isn’t sold in the US. We get it in the MT07, XSR700 & Tenere 700
Among 2022 Versys 650 and 2022 Suzuki Vstrom 650 which one would you pick for touring and why?
I would personally pick the Versys because I like how it looks, rest of the things I tend to customize on every motorcycle I buy.
Late to the party but hey better late then never! :D Great review. Im so very very much torn between the Versys and the Tiger. Im having a rough time deciding which is gonna come home next month.
Subsequently I was able to test ride both and made a follow up video including test rides: This might help :
ua-cam.com/video/DTZ1QV4uGwA/v-deo.html
@@RiderXp nice ima check it out! Thanks!
i just got a 2021 versys 650lt and i go over 240 miles to blinking fuel segment. i sofar get 61mpg i went to ocmd 190mi trip for bike week and just over 61mpg. it has way over the 250mi range riding decent.
That's awesome man! Thanks for watching and commenting👍
👍
V strom 650 sounds good
V strom & Tracer 7 sound best to me. TS660 sounds 2nd best.
The Vstrom actually rides the best in my opinion. Recently I got to test ride them all back to back and made this follow up video :
ua-cam.com/video/DTZ1QV4uGwA/v-deo.html
I wish the yamaha was available in the states. I would buy it.
Yeah me too. I love that motor they use in the XSR700, Tenere 700 & M07
In Europe (most of the World?) we do not use any weird meassurment like gallons per miles/kilometers or similar. It says nothing. We just use liter per 100km.
Haha! I know, since I moved to the US, i’ve learnt both! It’s like being multilingual 😀
As an italian when you said “exotic” I immediately thought “what? They make motorcycles in Maldives??” 😂😂😂
😂
Merhaba tanıtım için teşekkürler peki Yamaha tracer 700 ve kawasaki verys 650 modelleri arasında kıyaslama yapabilirmisiniz bu 3 model içinden sizin tercihiniz hangisi olurdu
for two up I think vstrom wins, I love the tracer but we felt to squished when we tried it
There are so many boxes that the Vstrom checks for so any people. No wonder it is among the most popular in its segment. Thanks for sharing, ride safe!
The tracer is not even a touring bike, thats a roadster with a little more plastic
this was a really good video man! Very well done
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. 👍
Which one has the most relaxed riding position? My old CB was uncomfortable A F on long rides.
Another top notch video, really enjoyed it thank you 👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the support & encouragement.
Well put together comparison. Thanks
Thanks for watching 😊
These points are in order of MY preference.
looks: tiger, tracert, versys, vstrom, nc750
engine sound: triumph yoshimura, tiger660 stock, vstrom akrapovic, tracer 7 stock, vstrom stock.
'character' means nothing to me in a bike 🙃 I value sound design for performance and longevity and ease of maintenance.
