It looks pretty good, they just made one fatal flaw like the rest of the rolling tool boxes: it isn’t drawers. Can’t they see that the best feature is that we don’t have to unstack and stack when we want something from the bottom? I mean even if it was one giant drawer it would be fine. Tool companies missed the target again🤦♂️
U should write them a letter
@@JakeWeihe they won’t listen. I can’t be the only one to suggest it. Besides they probably already have the designs for the next 3 generations, they’re just waiting to release them once sales in the old version slow down
They have drawer boxes coming soon. Three sizes
@coolk714
Yup. Looks exciting
@@coolk714 that’s cool, but, for me at least, the point is to have the large bottom box with wheels that will need to go on almost every job site to transport the whole mod pack be accessible without having to physically unstack every other mod boxes that you have brought on the cart. In other words, complete accessibility without the hassle of repetitive lifting
I’m looking forward to the In-depth analysis as your reviews are always extensive and really dig into the details of the various manufacturers products!!
Same the in dept review will help me decide on one for once. I’ve been on the fence for a while.
Another great packout video from Jake. Keep em coming.. Awesome information
Thanks! Will do!
Hell yeah!!! I been waiting for this episode!!!
Thanks Spencer! 👍
Yes. Please do make accessories for the ModBox.
Looking forward to a look at how/whether water is channeled away from the interior when opened after a rain.
Great review…. Exactly what i was looking for.
Glad I could help, thanks for watching
Looking forward to getting this!
Awesome!
Great information Jake.
Cool 😎 Looking forward to see what you come up with… I went from the DeWalt Tough System 2.0 to my Klein Mod Box, and these are great.
Good choice leaving tough system! LOL. I just returned my stack after doing some r&d.
On dewalt you can step. Also has taller the top. It help with organization.
I have also milwaukee , fast handling when organize boxes.
Great review. As an electrician these are pretty nice. But I own lots of Packout and I still think they are a better system. Sure Klein has a few things that are better but overall they didn't do enough research and development. It's great to see another competitor, this will keep Milwaukee from slacking on innovating.
I agree. I think Klein has a lot of potential and will hold the #2 spot, but they have a long way to go to catch up.
NO one is going to ever switch from a system to another unless there is a major difference. Making the same things with a few pros and cons isn't going to make someone switch.
If you are new to any system then yeah the competition is making things tougher to choose.
For me the best thing about these rolling toolbox systems is weather proof transport of tools to and from job sites. Almost bought the version with drawers until I thought about how unfortunate it would be to get caught in a storm and have the drawers fill with water.
For you who say this box sucks or is bad . This mod box is made electricians hint the slot on the of the box for pipe. An the storage on the back for fish rods an pipe bender. I think it’s awesome!
Interesting video. The mod box has the same internal design flaws as every other box out there. No side handles is a big thing. The 4 feet sticking out on the bottom, I don’t feel is as good as the packouts A removable handle is a nice feature though. Live confidently and peacefully
I’ve used the pack out system since it came out - earlier this year I had my entire rig stolen at night, so I’ve been looking at replacing it lately…and I gotta say, the Klein has the features I wish Packout did.
But it’s the color that trips me up big time. There is just something about bright orange that feels cheap to me.
If drawers are important to you, check out my recent drawer comparison video - Klein emphasizes their dark grey color more than the orange in their MODbox drawers and overall they are superior to Packout’s.
I got the rigid set when it first came out years again. Im already invested in those. Too late to switch over now
Mod box had 2 years to review Packout and others and read the feedback on them. It looks like they got it right. It’s just not sold in big box stores yet.
I’ve heard rumors of Lowe’s this fall. But nothing is set
Well said
The best things for me is tha5 you can take the handle off and then open the bottom box without taking stuff off of it
Ooo good point!
I just checked and my local Lowe's has them in stock
The removable handle without having to mod it is the feature i need to get it.
Yes please make adapters I have a veto pro bag, that a want to be able to use on this mod box
Nice video review, but most of us have already spent a fortune in Packout, accessories, and mods to even think about another modular system.
Think bigger… new people start their tool collections every day
good run down on the modbox. I was thinking about getting the klein. But not having good handles on the side is a big negative for me. Too bad Ridgit does not have more to pick from like drawers and half sized.
Ridgid definitely has potential if they start releasing more products
Could you make a mounting plate for these?
Maan I’m interested in starting a system. I almost pulled the trigger on Milwaukees cause I see it gets a lot of after market parts and seems they come out with a variety of things like the vacuum, the lights etc. Klein has me interested for the side rail attachments and the handle that can transport benders, the bigger wheels. I dig the orange color. The price though if it was cheaper then I’d consider it more but since it costs the same as the pack out It’s like might as well just go with Milwaukee since they already got like 20 boxes out. I don’t know
Check out my latest video on husky buildout
Very professional review as always but may I suggest i better microphone for your phase time shots.
It’s on the list. Same as a new computer, camera and lights haha $$$
I got an older klein tote from my step dad who passed away. I just got the base for the mod box and would love to be able to buy feet for my dad’s bag
I’m working on them but I know a few other guys are too. I’ll definitely post about them if I make them soon
Well ill say one thing for this Packout copy. I like the location of the latches for removing the telescoping handle . Now if a manufacturer would just try a little harder and just make it so the telescoping handle can retract to the same height as the box itself so every person putting their box in a truck with a tonneau cover 9:05 doesnt have to remove the dang handle. Other then that though I dont see any advantage over the Packout since its priced similarly. Heck I quit using my Dewalt Tough system rolling box because I cant fit it in my truck bed with a security bed cover. I now use a Craftsman 29" roling tool box Model #CMST24800 that fits in my truck bed with a cover on it and Ive made an attachment modification to the top so I can securely attach my other Dewalt Tough system boxes to it. Other then that if I need to transport a lot of my Dewalt boxes I use my DS Carrier as I can load the boxes I need and can attach the rolling box even though ive removed the handle and transport it that way. But the Carrier does take up a lot of room in my tool packed truck bed so I only use it when on big jobs when I need to transport many boxes.
Definitely valid criticisms. I feel like I’m seeing more and more people using vans/ trailers so Packout stacks aren’t as cumbersome anymore.
Milwaukee has released a new handle for existing packout and coming out with a new rolling box with the handle that collapse down to fit under these bed covers
Could you please do comparison of the Mod Box and Packout backpacks?
I will eventually
Make a adaptor mod to alllow packout stuff to fit on top
I think they got it right 👍, My guy has this set and its pretty F**ken nice. Great Job Dude !!
Thanks 👍
Listened to this video while cutting grass, did you say where these boxes are made? Israel, like the packout, and ridgid? Thx for the video
Pretty sure they’re made in China
@@JakeWeihe can you confirm?
For this price, you go milwaukee. The aftermarket is already there and lifting the handles locks the lid
Klien took Inspiration from Milwaukee LoL, they totally ripped their design Off, Klien did make a few upgrades that are Nice, I like the lid stays back, that's an easy fix with a couple Magnets though, as for pull handle out that's Nice, but I don't remove mine, there is a Fix for this already as well, What I really would have liked to see is DRAWERS, I would like a 3 Piece set, bottom Box with a HUGE pull-out drawer for Saws, etc and Middle would be a 2 Drawer unit, and the tote for the top. (with a 3 Drawer add-on option) Oh and the already added Tool (Level Slots) are nice as well, again there are add-ons for these with the pack-out as well ... Nice review
If you really want to know who ripped off Milwaukee it’s flex stackpack. At least Klein has a drawers coming they can be viewed in their cool builderverse(similar to packouts online builder LOL). Overall something truly disruptive like an equally heavy duty modular drawer system would be amazing- but until a company comes out with that we’re all stuck with this.
If their price point was cheaper, I ditch my pack out and go buy this. I’m really surprised they are pushing for the same price as Milwaukee.
No top handle on the bottom box, makes it a no go. The Ridgid 2.0 removable entire handle and wheels setup makes much more sense than the removable handle. I wish that Ridgid had more options and accessories. I have both versions of the Ridgid, Dewalt tstack, Festool systainers and Makita boxes. I just don't want to spend Milwaukee money on transport systems but spend it on tools that will make me money. If Ridgid had the Milwaukee options, I would buy it.
I do like the top handle on the ridgid box. Ridgid 2.0 definitely has some good qualities. I like the wall mounts
Have you done a review on Makpac/Festool systainers?
I talk about festool briefly in my latest toolbox comparison video
Good review. I just got these and agree with a lot of your points. All of the attachments are ripe for 3D printing. Can’t believe how upset Milwaukee people get about this shit lol
The Klein box is a nice-looking box, but the features you like on it are not code in all areas. The front bottom handle on the milwaukee box is not just a handle but also the safety lanyard connection point in case you do a tool. Same goes for the handle it has to be secured with bolts/screws making it semi permanent for aerial lift applications.
Where did you see that the Milwaukee points are intended for that?
@@JakeWeihe it was explained at the release of the box years ago, where I acquired my first rolling box. The lanyard packaging at that time showed all the places you can hook up to with the milwaukee lineup.
Better huh? I might consider getting one as soon as they come out with a more subdued color.
Lol. There’s always spray paint
@@JakeWeihe There's that. However, if you've seen my paint jobs you'd tell me to put the rattle can down and step away lol 🤣
Drawers are the only way to go for a rolling base
Pros and cons to both
Great review Jake! I still haven't had a chance to get my hands on the MODBox yet, but I'm looking forward to it! We'll feature this on the show this Friday. Thanks!
Their on sale for $269 right now the set of 3 mod box
Yeah. I’d wait tho. I hope they come down to 219 ish like Packout and stackpack
Can lock?
I didn't realize the Packout lid doesn't stay open! That's a no-go in itself. Can anyone answer if the lid is wet, does the water drain into the box when opened?
I’ve heard some complaints of it spilling into the lid when opening. But it probably depends on the speed and angle
@@JakeWeihe I've heard the Packout and DeWalt both drip inside. Haven't heard if the Mod box does the same. I guess it's likely also
Do your handle kits fit the mod box?
Not yet! I’ll post about it when it’s available
Unfortunately there is nothing in the mod box that says change to the mod box system from packout system. I do like the competition though.
I don’t think they’re really trying to get people to switch, more focused on getting new buyers
@@JakeWeihe I agree with that.
Great job doing a fair comparison and just stating the differences. From what I can see, Klein missed in so many ways to improve upon the Packout platform. I own tons of Packout and see many things that can be improved on it as well. If I ever moved into another system, it would probably be the Flex system. They have a system that took many of the lessons learned from Packout and incorporated them into their system.
Modbox is definitely better than flex. What do u think Klein missed out on?
@@JakeWeihe To each his own. Nice to have choices, isn't it.
Flex has good options for add ons, and the tool bit boxes clip onto the lid but I do get frustrated with not having a front latch like the pack out or mod box
some good ideas, some missed opportunities.
> Milwaukee Packout is King!
> Klein MODbox is a mediocre attempt to clone Packout. I like the ruler. I like the wire connect points. Lack of handle, lift points and corner rails are negatives.
> Any other brands that do not have front one hand release are not worty of discussion.
Bring your best.
Bring It All.
New pack out roller has been released
Yeah it’ll come out next year
Maybe it’s just me but I don’t really get these pack out boxes. For on site work they’re big and bulky to take especially if you have a car. For home use a regular tool chest is a better option. Also if you don’t have a foam top everything is going to flip flop around
Valid reasoning. I see lots of value in the different sizes and options of Packout. Most of the time I’m just using hand tools in my backpack but it’s very convenient to attach it to a box or two when I’m transporting more tools for bigger projects
@@JakeWeihe also fair points. If you’re just using it for power tools mostly and some odds and ends I can see the value.
Anything comparable to packout is going to be just as expensive and it’s unlikely to be better constructed than packout. So why would you pay just as much for something slightly worse? Once you approach 80% of packout prices just buy packout.
The only way to kill the king is to be way cheaper and just as good. Or the same price and much better. I don’t think there’s enough room to be way better than packout.
New people start their tool collection every day. And Klein modbox is actively trying new things and has many items coming soon. I don’t think Klein is trying to eliminate anyone from the market, but the more options the better for everyone
@@JakeWeihe Oh I agree, competition and options are great! It's just that, as a consumer I can't foresee anyone actually making something that would make me buy it instead of packout. I don't actually have any packout, it's just that the affordable alternatives aren't that good and the good ones are just as expensive so I would just buy packout instead. I prefer tool bags so it doesn't really affect me at all since I don't want Tupperware towers.
I had to pay the $30 to buy the spring pins to be able to remove my Packout handle to fit it into my truck box. When the package price difference is $20 you need to go through each system to determine which features are the big seller for you.
I know you’ve made kids for the organizing bins. You should make one for the bin in the small modbox.
Lids? What bin are you talking about
@@JakeWeihe in the small modbox tool box there is a bin on one side with two dividers. You think a lid could be added to that bin?
Ah yup. I like that big bin a lot. I think I can make a lid but it will probably have to be two pieces because it’s so big
@@JakeWeihe it would be interesting to see if it’s possible and if it would fit in the box with the lid.
Beard 👍👍
I think that the Klein mod box is made by DeWalt kleins cordless tools and lasers are made by DeWalt
Hmmm. Idk about that. It would be kind of silly for dewalt to manufacture something wayyy better than their own system
Who manufactures the boxes?
does it really matter?
@@JakeWeihe yes it does. Knowing who manufactures them would help people to decide if they want to invest a lot of money into the system. Keter makes the boxes for DeWalt, Milwaukee, and Rigid. If they make them… You know that most likely the quality is good however, if it is a third-party manufacture that has never made injection molded parts before… you may have issues. Issues if it is made in China with recycled resin.
Do u inspect every item u ever buy and make sure it isn’t used with recycled resin/ in China?
@@JakeWeihe why are you being an ass?
Unfortunately, the cost of Brazil is outside the reality of most people.
Even having Milwaukee and Dewalt distributors installed in Brazil the price is from the galaxy.
Example a simple 3-piece kit:
1 - Milwaukee Packout Rolling Modular Stackable Tool Box Storage System $966
2 - DeWALT DWST60436 TOUGHSYSTEM 2.0 Heavy Duty Rolling Tower Tool Box $1.200
what's left here in Brazil is buying what's outdated or paying for these fables :-(
So now top 3 box’s are packout, stack pack, and Klein. I feel like not many people will buy this box
Stackpack is not in my top 3…
@@JakeWeihe I know it’s not in urs but the rigid box’s are just mid tier. Why do you dislike flex so much?
They haven’t come out with anything new for months. They must have blown their entire marketing budget in the first few months of last year or something. And their side latches suck
@@JakeWeihe Yeah the Kleins are coming out with drawers. I don't understand why companies don't seem to realize how important the drawers are. How many people want to unstack the tower to get the stuff at the bottom? Anything without drawers isn't even a contender in my opinion. I also don't use any of these systems so it doesn't really concern me as I prefer bags. But if I did have a job site tower it would be mostly drawers.
Yeah that’s definitely not true…
modbox is sick but needs a vacuum
True but they don’t really have a battery platform
It never ceases to amaze me how the copycats always can tweak the formula since the innovators laid all the groundwork.
Standing in the shoulders of giants
I agree, but that is pretty much true about literally anything
Yeah like milwaukee making electrical tools. You step on my toes I'll step on yours.
The Ridgid 2.0 are much better, more space and affordable prices
Have u seen my previous ridgid 2.0 videos?
Flex made a second addition to their stock pack with a lot of drawers. The Klein does look pretty good as far as features. But the bright orange is butt ugly. I was looking at some in Lowe's and it is just way too Orange. One of the worst colors in my opinion to make a toolbox
Saw the price.... nope, not for me! Especially not for a product with few retailers and doubtful longevity.
Valid. What price point would convince u to try it out? It’s gonna be available at Lowe’s later this year
Lol @ rare clean-up tools!!!!😂
Amazing all that plastic is 315$
Lol pretty much
Good video… disappointing product. It’s clear they didn’t add much and the lack of additional handles/grip points is pretty bad. if it was out of the box ready for electricians than that’d be something at least, but as is, mods available for the Packout already eclipse this “knockoff” - I can’t believe I’m calling Klein a knockoff
Ok
Pretty easy to make something when somebody else already did it. Obvious copy cat product by Klein - I already have pack-out but if they had been side by side I still would have gotten the PackOut
No sense ,copy is more expensive then original.
Logic is to make cheaper copy but similar qualty for beter sell than original.
Sometimes logic isn't the main driver for purchases
Klein customer service sucks .I called looking for a part & got the runaround until they hung up on me
It’s just a box. I dont see why guys spend so much on them. I’ve had my dewalt tough system for 2 years they still hold my tools like any other box 😂
It’s not just a box… it’s a lifestyle! Kidding hahaha. I know what ur saying, but I like organizing with them and making products for them
Everybody knows these are all made by the same company right!?
Yeahhhh. But they aren’t.
@@JakeWeihe Keter is the company I believe.
Yeah they are based in Israel and are a manufacturer of some plastic toolboxes. These boxes, stack pack and others are made in China
@@JakeWeihe they make them for Milwaukee, Ryobi, Rigid and Stanley/Craftsman. All the boxes have very similar design aspects and Keter's Pro tool storage containers have really similar design aspects to the Klein. The standard series looks identical to Rigid well. I'm gonna do more research and get back to you.
It’s such a bad copy of the packout
Lol. Did you even watch the video?
@@JakeWeiheI did, and I honestly agree. The only things “better” is the release handle and the wheels. Everything else is either the same with less mods, for a smaller ecosystem. And the price holy cow, and I’m saying that as a Klein fan
@@williamlewis1805I'm going with Klein because of the extras you can put on the outside of the boxes
They’ve totally ripped off packout,I wouldn’t buy their boxes out of principle, the only thing they haven’t done is made them red or black lol
I think they’ve ripped off Packout less than flex stackpack but I do hear what ya mean
If they were smart they would have priced it $5 - $10 cheaper than Milwaukee.
I agree
It's all plastic, and they all link together.
Wow, another copy cat of the Packout.
Some would say Packout is a copycat of others
typical klein, made something competitive and over priced it.
Lol
I'm an electrician, and I prefer packout
Ok
gay electrician?
No one is interested in mod box most places won't sell them
Most places don’t sell systainers…
Most brands are only sold by 1 company
And it’s cool that you talked to every possible customer and found out that “no one” is interested.
