  • In 2023, the competition among Modular Toolbox Systems is fiercer than ever. Last year, Ridgid released Pro Gear 2.0 and Flex came out with Stack Pack. That video is Part 1 of my detailed reviews and comparisons with Packout. Part 2 includes Klein’s MODbox and Husky’s Build-Out. Both of these systems have some unique and innovative features. The goal is to help you decide which system is best for you!

I have the Ridgid system for my photography gear and will continue with it. I do wish there was a way to mount a hook for cables and cords, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with it. The price point was right and I've only felt a need to pick up the 2.0 in the roller as the tall handle previously prevented me from closing the privacy shade in the cargo area of my SUV. Now I can do that.
I'm looking for a cooler to add to the system before they are completely gone and the small organizers will need to be ordered as they've never been stocked locally.
I really like the small Husky organizer that I've seen in the store. I did not realize it was in conjunction with this new system. Very nice.

Very awesome and thorough video! I wish I had found/seen it sooner. I initially went with RIDGID (Gen.I) because I mostly use RIDGID Powertools (and Ryobi too, and now Milwaukee M12 as they have more for automotive mechanics) and the simple functionality and cheaper price (as I had a very limited budget as a recently retired military and still not working in civilian job yet) than Milwaukee Packout. But now Packout has a LOT to offer with their extensive product line and heavy aftermarket mods support, and now I can afford it. I will be making some mods purchases from you for my Packout system. And now you have a new subscriber!

This is one awesome video. Very well done. Maybe for the future: in your score, see if you could add something for tracking different box functionalities (for instance: drawers are a huge plus for bottom of the stack boxes, but sacrifice internal volume).

On the topic of the storage systems themselves...it always amazes me how the industrial designers/engineers miss obvious things YT reviewers spot immediately. I mean it is just incredible. Even the almighty packout system, clearly a winner in many people's hearts, does idiotic things like lid not opening whilst rear handle is extended and not being able to lock/unlock boxes with other boxes on top. It's as if they noticed these towards the end of their deadlines and had no more time to change it. But all that would be needed is to have focus groups....or even better...have youtubers get prototypes early on, with non disclosure agreement to publish the videos only once the company has finalized the product...let youtubers keep the product in return for feedback.

Wanted to say that I love your videos and come here to give an update on my Ridgid Pro Gear 2.0 boxes. I have 2 small, 1 medium and 1 large with the wheels. Had the boxes strapped to the bed of my work truck (flat bed crane truck) similar to my coworkers packout. The bottom boxes connecting handle failed when i took a turn and scattered the bozes across a busy road. Thankfully no boxes were ran over and the locking latches didn't fail but all of the boxes are damaged and need to be replaced. Its been a chore to get anyone from the warrenty department on the phone (as of this writing 5 days in) no one has returned voice messages or been able to be reached on the phone. I plan to get my boxes replaced, but will probably go with Toughbuilt moving forward.

But Flex( Grey) and Hart (Also Black n blue) went on clearance so those became my choices and I couldn't be happier for Light and Heavy duty projects and Gigs as I Work in Clubs doing DJ/Sound ( And Light Security B4) but I want to become an apprentice in a trade so il find myself on worksites soon enough.

I got the Milwaukee for Christmas last year and I love it. It feels more rugged than others I've seen, and, like a lot of their tools, you can tell it was designed by people who work for a living.
My only gripe was the non removable handle since I have a tonneau cover on my truck. Technically it is removable by taking out 2 screws at the base of the handle. I found a company who makes a spring-pin to replace those screws (mentioned in this video) and it was a simple & complete solution to that issue.

Great vid. As a Handyman looking to expand on his current husky quick connect... this is incredibly helpful. While it does seem a whole lot like a commercial for Milwaukee as well as your gear (I get it, all good), it was INCREDIBLY informative. I may go husky (build out)... but that removable cart of the rigid REALLY draws me - as I usually leave some boxes in the truck. Although, from the sounds of it, not all of rigid's gear connects to it - sadly... nay... pathetically.
A thought... pick ups... they have that 2x4 insert in front and behind the wheel well.... I LOVE that my current quick connect fits between the rear one and the tailgate. NONE of these do.

What about the budget option, the Husky Connect! Yes, these are a step down in quality, a bit smaller, but AWESOME! I love the see-through top box lid and the best part is the bottom rolling box has no lid! A lid on the bottom box of stackable tool boxes just gets in the way. I love when I lift one of my middle boxes off the bottom.. BOOM! Just grab one of my power tools, no messing with a needless lid. Also the double drawer box is great as well. I'm a tile setter by trade and have been using this set-up for two years now with no problems. Anyway, great comparison video!

Great presentation on the boxes. I would have actually liked to see all the boxes on one video so thank you but also thank you. Now I actually have to check out your website too to see what other accessories you have for the Milwaukee packout the one thing you did not mention on any of the box systems under security the biggest problem that I see is theft and easy access to getting my property out of the boxes. A lot of people don't pick up on it, but it's the hinge systems itself. You can actually pop the hinges out and still retrieve anything inside of any box from the hinge side. I've spoken the Milwaukee. I've spoken reps. I've spoken to other big influencers when it comes to these videos on the packout system only, but as I've seen through your video with the other boxes they will have the same issues of theft. On the hand side, you can pop the hinge out and open it from the side of the hinge. Take it easy

What's even better is it's so easy to remove the handle with just the push of a button and just clips right back on. You can even bolt the wall mounts to the back of the handle rods to have a handy place to hang a box off the back when you're on the job. Once Ridgid gets the drawers to market (they're saying March now) they'll be going at the bottom of my stack and staying there. These boxes are made in Israel so the delay in drawers could be related to that.

Like so many others, I have discovered that the tool you need is always in the bottom box. I’m getting really tired of taking apart a stack just to get that tool out. I’m trying to find a system with decent drawers (or build my own) that can travel as easily as these, and has a drawer retention mechanism that doesn’t interfere with other drawers. In other words, the drawers stay in place until you unlock them and whatever locking mechanism doesn’t just flop down over the drawer unit below. I’m thinking the Milwaukee drawers might be the answer, paired with the dolly. Durability and accessories also play a role. If you could do a review of the systems with drawers, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks for doing all these videos. And your product designs are awesome! That also figures into my decision to be honest. If the system doesn’t have Weihe Design mod options, it gets a lower score. ;)

Personally, i decided packout for all my expensive tools, while using rigid for hand tools and parts organization. Rigid's platform and affordability allows me to organize even the small things like pex parts, wire nuts, etc.
Overall great video, keep up the great work!!! ✌️

I decided on Packout some time ago, and I've managed to build out a decent collection at about 1/2 the current list price, thanks to sales and other deals. Perhaps the same discounts are available with other brands, but if you can figure out what you want and then buy it only when the prices are lower (and aren't in a hurry) Packout isn't as expensive as it seems at first. And I've never been disappointed in those boxes.

It isn't easy to control a point total for the specific brands' entire universe of boxes and accessories. Packout is CRUSHING everyone right now and there seems to be no end in sight. There are some things I like better with the Ridgid system but they don't have enough options out. If you only need the 3-box stack then maybe you can have a legit comparison but I'm not even in the trades and I use many of the pack-out options. One of the most important pieces pack out has that allow for a majority of my uses is the mounting plates. It's too bad Ridgid did not come up with a flat (non-wall hanging) mounting plate option.

I’ve been looking for a stackable system for a while now and after watching all your videos and everyone else’s reviews. I was on the fence between the Milwaukee and the Flex and I ended up buying the flex stack pack. Seems to be better quality built than Milwaukee and I really like the gas assisted struts. Plus I like that all of the attachments and accessories are made by flex instead of third party companies

I had someone else help load some tools in the back of my pickup truck one time. Turns out the top box wasn’t latched down, so I took a turn and saw the top box go flying across the road. It ended up with a few scratches on the outside and a small gouge where the corner first hit the road. I was very impressed with the durability!

What I'd love to see (and nobody has done) is open up the case to examine the locking mechanisms. How much is plastic? How replaceable are the springs? It's great that the contents of the box are protected against moisture, but are the mechanisms? For those of us who work/live in coastal areas, having the mechanism rust and fail would be a decision point.

I use the milwaukee system. Forgot to strap it on the flat bed and the entire system full of tools (VERY heavy) was going about 35 when it left the truck. Some road rash and one box lock that locks them together broke. But all tools stayed in the boxes and the bottom cleats of the box with the broken lock are all still functioning as new. Wish the system was cheaper but ill never switch. A friend has a similar system by heart and it doesnt even come close. Broke his just by setting it down.

I want the PackOut but "settled" for Rigid. I love Packout and the products give me the fizz, however as I'm just a professional homeowner and not a contractor nor bluecollar, there is 0 justification for that price-point for just the fact that it is "nice."
