Why PAYTON WILSON Was an IMPOSSIBLE PICK for the Steelers (His Insane Rise)

- A few years ago, Payton was just a small town prospect who had no shot of making it to the NFL. 4 injuries and 6 years later though, Wilson became a superstar linebacker for NC State and despite falling to the 3rd round, the Steelers got a steal. Today, we are going to talk about the impossible rise of Payton Wilson and how all this happened, enjoy!
We still got two months until the start of the 2024 NFL season, what rookie should I spotlight next?
Roman Wilson
I like this payten Wilson from NC State..I'm hoping he's the next TJ Watt type caliber player..I feel like he is going to be a stud, loyal Steeler like Watt, Hayward, roethlisberger
Do a video on Chevan Cordeiro he is a UDFA and he came out of San Jose State and I saw him play twice and he is really good
I would also say Roman Wilson. Kid is NICE!
As a Steelers fan I’m excited to see how he performs!
Next to queen dawg jj and that line...oweee
I wish the Titans would've drafted this kid
Agree. I hope he can stay healthy. Shazier 2 ? Maybe not. That being said I always wondered w/ Shazier’s speed and vert can you imaging if he would’ve played safety ? Can you imagine that beast coming up for a hit or blitzing ? Scary.
As both a Steelers and nc state fan this is a dream come true
I watched every game he played at NC State, and he was absolutely dominant! Wherever the ball was, he was there, usually crushing the ball carrier. But if he didnt make the tackle, he was right there about to. He routinely would run from one side of the field to the other to run down ball carriers. He is one of the best defenders I have ever seen, has a massive chip on his shoulder, an insanely hard work ethic high character and hates losing. Expect greatness
I operate a UA-cam channel talking steelers and I have been saying since before the draft that if Wilson fell to the 2nd or 3rd or maybe beyond he would be the biggest steal of the NFL draft. He has the athletic ability to be super dominant in today’s style of defense in the NFL. The range he has is insane and his strength and willingness to be ultra aggressive is unmatched by any linebacker in this rookie class. Also his injures have not been an issue for several years and I think that maybe he will have a handful of really highly productive years in the NFL.
You know who else was missing an ACL? Hall of Fame WR Hines Ward!
Future, HOFer Hines Ward. ✌️
greg lloyd didnt have one either seemed to work out for bro too on top of that both him and Hines played at a time where there wasnt a player safety initiative both had amazing careers
Payton Wilson is a Jack Lambert type linebacker. Wilson played multiple positions on offense in high school, running back and wide receiver. In high school Jack Lambert was a quarterback. These guys understand offense and defense.
YES!!!!!!!!!! dude you fucking NAILED it man!!!!! i was trying to put my finger on it but i just fucking couldn't, meanwhile it was under my nose the entire time. fucking modern day Jack Lambert man. Christ!!!!
Wilson isn’t the only Steelers player that could’ve been considered risky. George Pickens and Darnell Washington both had injury history prior to being drafted into the league
Russell Wilson also went to nc state
Cory Trice missed his whole rookie season, so....
@@RHINOAPBT Calvin Austin too. Steelers commonly take the risk of bringing on players with injury history.
He gone be 1 of the best linebackers in the league watch!! #steelers4L
Easy there Trigger..... let him play a few snaps first
Van Jefferson needs to give payton wilson his #11
Can’t wait to watch him go… He possesses a genuine Troy Polamalu Attitude………
This kid has the making of a game changer. Hope he stays healthy, if so, HOF is not out of the question.
Honestly after a deep down on his injury history killey my excitement for him hopefully he can stay healthy in Pittsburgh, definitely a talent
That there's a cross between Jack Lambert and Jack ham with cornerback speed 🔥💥
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Nailed it
Him learning from Queen is massive for us
I might start being a Steelers fan. Born is 63 as a Bears fan and I'm tired of them continually back-stabbing QBs like JF. The young man has so much potential, I really hope the Steelers rise up this year with Fields and Frazier at center (what a pick, the dude's a stud). Good luck Pittsburgh, you got plenty of Bears fans like me pulling for you, Go Big Gold!!!
JF sucks and will always suck. i have ZERO hope for the guy. he'll be sub mediocre at best. But welcome to Steelers nation i guess, b ud.
Hell the way it’s looking we might need bro to play wideout for a season 💛🖤
I can't wait to see this dude at camp! He looks like a hybrid Chad Brown/Troy Polamalu-style player.
Chad Brown! Damn I loved his style of play. Troy too. But who didn't?
Things happen for a reason, and thank God almighty for allowing Peyton to be drafted by my Steelers!!!this young man is going to be wicked once he gets some experience, God bless you always Peyton and welcome to the steel city
One of the greats that have played for my Wolfpack!
Interesting prospect. I had to look up his height/weight because he looked a little thin for LB. 230 is ok but at 6-4 it looks a little lean. He must be a hell of player and must have been fun to watch. Those guys that only have one speed (full) are fun to watch. I never got watched an NC State game, would’ve been fun to see.
Ik him he was no joke in high school
As an NC State fan I can say that the Steelers got a steal This guy is the real deal.
another banger by fisher
Dude will develop in linebacker Central!!
Expect top special teamer and will add to a deep lb group
They will be looking to get his speed on the field asap. Holcomb coming off knee injury and Roberts is more of a thumper. This kid has range and speed the Steelers haven’t seen since Ryan Shazier.
He's Awesome. Huge believer. I believe in ALL the Wilson's on team. All contributing to Super Bowl Run!!!!!!!
that block at 3:03 was devious
Love the pick he reminds me of Troy,so fast to the ball!!
A play maker , the injuries scared most NFL teams from drafting him
I wanna wish Payton a great career a a Pittsburgh Steeler
Maybe if he gave only 100% he can have a decent pro career. I wish him luck in the pros.
The next Great LB
As long as he stays healthy...with that speed he's gonna tear teams up.
This guy is another Jack Lambert with his instincts. He’s all over the field, great cover skills.
We can only guess, assume, or predict however I absolutely believe he has as the overall best pick in the draft. Many people don't realize that Hines Ward came into the NFL with no ACL in one of his knees. Look at his career and how aggressively he played. I'm not a sports scientist so idk if your ACL is more important for WR type movement or ILB type. Id guess ILB because of the fact that they have to be able to move in any/all directions without hesitation no matter body position at the time. That being said, WR has to constantly come off the line and fast and make a lot of cuts and plants to get best outta route running. I played ILB as a kid and lateral movement is so important. Another thing is he hasn't had an injury in a lot of play since his shoulder (I believe was the last). I have a lot of faith in the young man and even more hope being an absolute Steelers fan and a fan of no other team, period. Even if he doesn't work out for whatever reason, the pick isn't wrong. The risk and reward are so far from each other that it's worth the gamble. We all know that no matter the skills, success or pedigree of a draft pick... there's no guarantees it'll transition into success in the NFL. I'm 100% in support no matter what and hope he has a great and long career.
those punts were egregious
As a Saints fan, I was really hoping they'd trade up into the 3rd to pick him up when he made it out of the 2nd round... Sure, they've got Pete Werner, but at some point Demario Davis won't be immortal anymore, and having a 1st-round level talent learning as Davis' heir apparent would have been great. Even if he somehow couldn't beat out Pete Werner to succeed Davis, the 2 of them would have been a force together.
Guy's a stud.
He compliments Elandon Roberts perfectly. ERob being the run stuffer that will take on more of the punishment. I think they can use him as a playmaking chess piece.
I like the player and was hoping Raiders drafted him (they never draft LBs) he’s really good and would have went higher if he didn’t have a lot of injuries in his past and that’s always worrisome. Great player though hopefully he stays healthy
Bruh… is anyone else catching the peel back blocks on these punt returns? 😂😂😂
I saw them; on e was bone crushing! His High School highlights were insane! He had some help:)
He has incredible upside. I wanted the Chiefs to draft him and I’m super glad the Raiders didn’t draft him
4 injuries in college. Injury proned. Not good. If he can stay healthy hel might be good.
Dang entire first half of highlights his teammates were straight up murdering people with the blocks!
He did come from a small high school. The yard lines on the field are noticeably crooked!
UNC has a bigger brand, but NC State has a far superior blue collar football culture. Just ask Payton. I hope he stays healthy because you're gonna love the guy!
Can you do romen Wilson
Going from "Pickett to Pickens" to "Wilson to Wilson!"
I’d love for this to work out but unfortunately, he’s made of glass
Nah man.... you dont know. He has not been injured in a few years b/c of the incredible Strength and Development at NC State under Thunder Dan Burnette. His injuries happened when he was younger and less developed b/c of the violent collisions that he created.
That's a really stupid thing to say of a guy who gets ACLs blown playing football..most likely your the glass joe..
@@shadowlazers If somebody is injury prone they are injury prone man. What is there to even argue? It is what it is. Cry about it
He got that headbutt a punch forehead i trust him
So just image how fast he would be if it wasn’t for injuries
you said he had "no shot of making it to the nfl" but he was a 4 star with offers from notre dame and ohio state 😂😂 first and last video ill ever watch from this channel
I'm EXTREMELY excited for Payton, he loves Football so much, I can almost see the Ray Lewis in him
This guy has Jack Ham written all over him.
Ik him in real life played with him
Future HOF
Start him!
What happened with Pickett?
@@luboi386 we shipped his sorry ass to filthadelphia
I can see him playing saftey
Hines ward has none in his knees😂😅
Stud.... Sideline to sideline
Sounds like a Steeler.
Your delivery of an opinion is horrible. I made it to 2:13 before I gave up. Stop trying to sound like a monotone reporter who’s given up on their career. Good content, delivery needs work
Kind of agree; love the content. I thought it was AI for a while.
Mediocre HC, Mediocre owner, = Mediocre team. 10-7, no playoff win extending the streak to 8 years.... But hey, in Pittsburgh a non losing season is celebrated like a Super Bowl win.
Right, because 6 Superbowls come from a mediocre organization. Moron
That was an idiotic comment from top to bottom
Idk why this video popped up on my feed, or why I clicked it. But when your argument is that the dude has potential but has been injury riddled, and 80% of the highlights in the video are from High School, I’m go ahead and tap out on it. I hope the pick works out for the Steelers… buuuuut… 😂😂😂
It’s all high school highlights so he could monetize the video lol. This is why you ask and don’t assume
@@shotbymcfly I didn’t assume a damn thing. But I also didn’t ask why he used high school highlights. Your comment is so far off base lol. Seems like you were looking for an argument. You assumed that high school football highlights weren’t filmed by somebody, and that he can legally use that film to make money off of. Not the case, unless he had explicit consent to do so. Either way, again, I’m not a Steelers fan, this video is silly, and I wish nothing but good things for this dude and Steelers fans.
@@ThisHandleIsntAvaluhbull YT his college highlights. He is L E G I T..
@@ThisHandleIsntAvaluhbulljust Google. He runs incredibly fast for his size. He is going to get hurt...but he isn't going to be returning kickoffs or playing offense in the NFL.
You dont know my man. I watched every game he played for NC State, and he was regularly the best player on the field. Almost every game. He was absolutely dominant. Tap out all you want, but you should watch his college tape first. You won't even need to just watch highlights, b/c you don't have to watch but a handful of plays on defense before you see a PW highlight. The dude is a legend. You will be convinced, I guarantee it.
He will be hurt by week 6
@@JazJaz-su6nb That's just some BAD MOJO dude. I sincerely hope he balls out just to prove you wrong! And, on a side note, I'm sure the strength trainers in Pitt will be working with him to help with it.
@@BeardedDutchman how can they help?
He wont have a long career
He’s gonna be another bad Steelers lb 😂😂😂😂 #FlyEaglesFly
Them Eagles linebackers really had broken wings last season 😂
@@Slikk750Blokk 35-13
Lol enjoy our leftovers 😂 kenny throws pickets, better pray hurts don't get hurt
@@ManuelGonzalez-ws9xf 35-13 aj brown owns you
That's a funny statement coming from a fan of a team that has NEVER had even a GOOD linebacker room.
