They built an engine to make these rayman games that allowed tons of different layers of art to be scrolling. It's one of the most visually stunning games ever made. So it was worth it building the engine just to make this and Legends. It allows artists to simply make the art and then upload it to the engine, rather than having to worry about pixels and making game art the old fashioned way. It saved on development time as well. I'm not explaining it well but yeah, go watch a video about the game engine, and how revolutionary it is

Also, you start to give a shit in the last levels because Every single Lum counts before the medal. And Land of the Living Dead push you to your limits , because this level will take to consideration every exploite of running. This is one of the most rewarding games to complete 100%. I completed it on my Vita, and this was amazing

Not because of laziness, but just as a bonus. The only negative is probably that it's kinda easy. Some of the later challenges can get really hard, though.
The best part of this game is having your sibling stand in front of a Electoon cage while you super-punch them to watch the hilarious faces when the screen freezes.
Glad you enjoyed it! Rayman Origins is definitely one of the best 2D platformers ever made. It’s funny how it takes plenty of elements from the original. I didn’t even realize it did at first, since it has such a different feel from the original. If I’m not mistaken, it was also the first game I played in co-op with my sister. The song from the Mission, where you have to run up the mountain in mystical peaks has been stuck in my head since my first time playing this game and that was more than seven years ago
This was the first game I ever remember playing, back in 2015 when I was five, sitting on the Xbox 360 and downloading the demo, and playing it over and over….mainly because I thought I was missing something and there was a couple extra levels, but still. This game was a masterpiece, and is the main reason I like rayman today.
This game got me properly into video games. I was definitely a casual fan, but I wasn't involved in the community until I played this and was hooked.I wanted to be a cartoonist, so when I saw the trailers for this I was amazed at the art style and became extremely excited and began watching the first lets plays I'd ever seen of the game on youtube.
Thanks, cool that you're still responding to comments. I found your videos recently with the sonic unleashed one, really enjoying them, I'm going to work through your entire sonic retrospective after I'm finished exams. Any plans on playing legends now? I don't think it's quite as good (they toned down the difficulty a bit and the artstyle isn't as cartoony) but it's more polished and has some amazing moments.
My favorite game of all time, the gameplay, visuals, and music are off the charts. As a kid my dad bought me atleast three wii copy’s at Walmart because they kept getting scratched and eventually stopped working.
People say that Origins is the worst Rayman game because it's not Rayman 4. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a Rayman 4, but calling Origins the worst Rayman game just baffles me.
Rayman 4 should preferably go the rayman 3 route with a mix between the focus on combat and platforming. And they really need to bring back the rayman 3 design
The more I play this game the more I can appreciate the amazing level design this game has. as I get further in my progress it just keeps getting better and I can really see they went all out with their imaginations
most of the music was actually done by christopher heral, his music usually has the weird instruments you never heard before and LITERAL LIVE ORCHESTRAS were used to record them, as well as himself being incredibly talented
Origins bombed that badly... WHAT?!?! I remember wanting it terribly as a kid, but nobody brought it for me, so I think... I might be misremembering, but I think I didn't even play it until after Legends. Makes me feel bad I never got the game back then, though. And it would have been right up my alley too. ... I only played it on 3DS however, which is a completely playable port and still fun as hell, but that compression. Yeowch. You're making me wanna play it again on PC man but I just don't have the time. One weird thing is that I have much stronger memories of Origins than Legends. I remember having about as much fun with Legends back in the day (like, what was it, three years ago) but also breezing through it. I hate when games are like that, it really hurts replayability because novelty wears off and you're left with challenges that usually aren't that stimulating. I don't mean to just dog on Legends, but I think I would like it less if I replayed it. I hope if I get to replaying either that I don't just like them less overall. I still remember them well enough to say that both are great games though, tbh I think they deserve a lot more recognition. Can't really think of something that captured quite the same spirit before or since. I remember Jungle Run being pretty fun too, though I can't say much about the other mobile games (I liked Fiesta Run but the egregious IAPs turned me off from getting far and never played Adventure). Honestly if you're hungry for more 2D Rayman they're probably worth a shot even though most people just forget they existed.
I love Rayman Origins. I runs so perfect on the PS Vita that you're impress how Ubisoft was able to make the platform run so well on a handheld device. Every time I bring up this game people don't know anything about it which is sad. Rayman Origins deserved better than what it's sold for and, yes, we did get get Rayman Legends but Rayman Origins nailed everything I love in platform game. Truly underrated. A masterpiece
The game and gameplay is amazing however to me, the audio just makes it so much better. not only does the gibberish speech fit so well and make the game feell more alive but also the soundtrack just hits so well. (im writing this comment 5 years later. prolly no-one is even going to see this) Im annoyed at how little people know or even like this game. its too good and requires more recognition. it holda up as a good game in my heart to this day and the graphics are still good especially since the game released 13 years ago...
the multiplayer is so fun because it has the mario bros wii level of trolling your teammates but in the later levels you and your team will need to work flawlessly at the same time to get through the difficulty
Excellent review, thought i couldnt be arsed to sit through 32 mins of one game but it flew by. Got me in the mood to pop the game in again. I still need to get Legends, i opted not to buy it & wait til i got a Wii U to get that version but never got round to getting one.
Yeah i did but only briefly tho, just the first few levels. Enjoyed what i played of it tho but think i got caught up in something else to go back. Another one on the backlog.
This is the only platformer I played EVER that carries your momentum up a wall you jump into (even the great DKC trilogy has no wall climbing): that tiny little difference makes Rayman Origins the slickest platformer of all time
I don't think this is Rayman 4. Just a spin-off sort of thing. We'll see, Michel Ancel said after BGVE2 he plans on doing a new 3D Rayman game. Also I hate Rayman Origins' fetish for smacking eyeballs. The game is fine, but I don't understand why there's such an emphasis on hitting people in the eye. Like, stop.
I think this is the first video where you criticized the game and not my review :D I'll be curious if they ever get around to a proper 3D Rayman. I suspect it would be like Super Mario 3D World.
Ouch, I feel bad admittedly to be viewed in that position. I guess I do it because I see limitless potential in your work, absolutely limitless. :P The only thing I do when I come across such talent is pinpoint the things that might not resonate so well with the audience. Of course, who am I to really give advice since I do basically the same as you on this platform. Anywho, I will keep watching and keep commenting, if you're into that sort of thing. 0:
i got Rayman Origins for free and was blown away by it's greatness. I didnt knew how good it is until i played it. Too bad it was not a huge success. This game would have deserved it,
It still feels like a very under-played game. DKC Tropical Freeze and Rayman Legends get so much praise, and are often hyped as the greatest side-scrolling platformers ever. But Origins blows them both away.
I hate that Legends, as awesome as that game was, overshadows Origins today. Ubisoft won't port this game over to any new systems, and people who didn't play the original don't care because Legends has a ton of Origins levels. But this is by far the more consistently enjoyable game
This is the one I actually got to play as a kid lol, I've got to say, this game is great. But one problem I always think Rayman always had, was that he was just a forgettable character. I had completely forgot who Rayman was before this review series. His games are anything but bad, but his character is shallow in my opinion. He doesent stand out like mario, or sonic, or even link from the legends of Zelda. I think that's what caused his irrelevancy later on in time.
TerrorOfTalos yeah i guess so, it might be a subject of opinion, but I've never really seen rayman or his friends as intresting characters. There just easily forgettable.
This game is absolutely one of the best platformers out there. One game that I think comes close is Super Meat Boy but the sty;e and music in Origins are far better and the game is less frustrating. I didn't know the game sold poorly but it did well enough for a sequel that I'm sure you will enjoy. This is one of the few games that I bought, traded in then bought the deluxe edition of just for those silly things that came with it because I enjoyed the game so much!
Origins, unlike Meat Boy, wasn't deliberately designed to piss people off. It's hard, sure, but I think how it's presented in games like Origins, Legends and DKC is a million times better than it is in a game like that. Also, on the subject of presentation, Meat Boy felt more like nostalgic pandering to me than anything to really take in like with Rayman.
Amazing game. I have 2 requirements for most games. 1. Gameplay 2.Atmosphere The game is fun and interesting to play throughout each level while the art style makes the game so easy to look at. And holy shit...the music is phenomenal. The game wouldn't be the same for me without it's incredible soundtrack.

I really enjoy your reviews my friend you tell it like it is and you point out all the good and the bad things about games.
Thanks man, glad to hear it :)
The song from the Mission, where you have to run up the mountain in mystical peaks has been stuck in my head since my first time playing this game and that was more than seven years ago
I had so much fun playing this game and Rayman Legends with my brothers.
I'd be damned if the water levels' music wasn't one of the best soundtracks in the game.
You deserve way more then you've got, your videos are masterpieces
I got this on Xbox gold and it stole my heart with the amount of charm it throws at you
This was the first game I ever remember playing, back in 2015 when I was five, sitting on the Xbox 360 and downloading the demo, and playing it over and over….mainly because I thought I was missing something and there was a couple extra levels, but still.
That's pretty cool man :)
Legends will be next and I hope you enjoy the Sonic vids, they damn near killed me to make lol :)
My favorite game of all time, the gameplay, visuals, and music are off the charts. As a kid my dad bought me atleast three wii copy’s at Walmart because they kept getting scratched and eventually stopped working.
20:15 I think Christophe Heral mentioned in an interview once how that Lum King jingle is a reference to the Ground Theme from Super Mario Bros.
People say that Origins is the worst Rayman game because it's not Rayman 4. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a Rayman 4, but calling Origins the worst Rayman game just baffles me.
This game just makes me smile with glee if anyone mentions it so many memories and nostalgia with this game
Origins and Legends are lovely games. But... Rayman 4, cmon!
Rayman 4 should preferably go the rayman 3 route with a mix between the focus on combat and platforming. And they really need to bring back the rayman 3 design
Fantastic video, contrats
The more I play this game the more I can appreciate the amazing level design this game has. as I get further in my progress it just keeps getting better and I can really see they went all out with their imaginations
I enjoyed this game. One of the best 2d platformers in the last decade in my opinion.
i cant express how calming your voice is :)
most of the music was actually done by christopher heral, his music usually has the weird instruments you never heard before and LITERAL LIVE ORCHESTRAS were used to record them, as well as himself being incredibly talented
i absolutely loved the game in xbox 360 days and just started replaying it, its just like how i remembered it.
Takes me back to Christmas of 2011 when I opened my presents to find this game along with sonic generations. Good times.
I have beaten this game 4 times and i cannot get bored its insane! rayman legends aswell, ill be exited to see that review
I like how he keeps calling the carnivorous plant an octopus.
the multiplayer is so fun because it has the mario bros wii level of trolling your teammates but in the later levels you and your team will need to work flawlessly at the same time to get through the difficulty
Great review as usual!
More people should watch your reviews and videos, also cant wait to see what you think about the sequel!
Thanks man :)
to me, this has the best controls i've ever experienced in a game
As of the moment, they are easily my favorite 2D controls. Amazingly smooth and responsive without being overly complex.
yep!
Excellent review, thought i couldnt be arsed to sit through 32 mins of one game but it flew by. Got me in the mood to pop the game in again. I still need to get Legends, i opted not to buy it & wait til i got a Wii U to get that version but never got round to getting one.
Glad I could steal 32 minutes from you :D Did you ever get around to trying Decap Attack?
Yeah i did but only briefly tho, just the first few levels. Enjoyed what i played of it tho but think i got caught up in something else to go back. Another one on the backlog.
This is the only platformer I played EVER that carries your momentum up a wall you jump into (even the great DKC trilogy has no wall climbing): that tiny little difference makes Rayman Origins the slickest platformer of all time
if you enjoyed this game this much i hope you consider playing "Ori and the blind forest" one of my favourite modern platforms
Noted and purchased!
implantgames awesome happy you did, Can't wait for a full review
FrameRater I'd consider Raving Rabbids GBA to be more akin to a fourth game, but it's not exactly as solid as the other games... Or 3D.
I wish you talked abotu the land of the livid dead, that was some insane gameplay in those levels alone!
How could a game like this sell so poorly?
i got Rayman Origins for free and was blown away by it's greatness. I didnt knew how good it is until i played it. Too bad it was not a huge success. This game would have deserved it,
It still feels like a very under-played game. DKC Tropical Freeze and Rayman Legends get so much praise, and are often hyped as the greatest side-scrolling platformers ever. But Origins blows them both away.
i love the music in the punching plateaus level.. and wind or lose
Per my notes, my favorite tracks were Crazy Bouncing, Wind or Lose, Polar Pursuit, Piping Hot!, Port ‘O Panic, and Moseying the Mountain.
i almost 4got about quazy bouncing dat won is tite !
rayman origins has the best intro of all time
I 100% completed this game like 3 times when I was a kid, it's just a really fun experience
Beautiful and fun, my only gripe is that it is too much button mashing at times, a bit more pure platformer precision would be welcomed.
One of my favourite Rayman game ever - the artstyle is my fav and music and gameplay
Me too brother, me too.
Quality content as always
Thanks!
I only played Origins for the first time this year. It is incredible.
I think the bubble dreamer is polokus
Oh I like that!
31:05 - 31:35
I can think of another game that fits all those specifics:
Rayman Legends
This game was my childhood
I hate that Legends, as awesome as that game was, overshadows Origins today. Ubisoft won't port this game over to any new systems, and people who didn't play the original don't care because Legends has a ton of Origins levels. But this is by far the more consistently enjoyable game
"Rayman Origins - Masterpiece?"
YES
This is the one I actually got to play as a kid lol, I've got to say, this game is great. But one problem I always think Rayman always had, was that he was just a forgettable character. I had completely forgot who Rayman was before this review series. His games are anything but bad, but his character is shallow in my opinion. He doesent stand out like mario, or sonic, or even link from the legends of Zelda. I think that's what caused his irrelevancy later on in time.
Velsk Yo How is he "shallow"? Are you talking about in terms of character design or what?
TerrorOfTalos yeah i guess so, it might be a subject of opinion, but I've never really seen rayman or his friends as intresting characters. There just easily forgettable.
It doesn't help his personality is completely different in every game.
I’m the opposite. I find mario forgettable yet Rayman unique because he’s limbless
Finally. Great to see this masterpiece getting the praise of always deserved.
This is the best looking game I have never seen. This game is just beautiful. I played it on my new 3ds xl. Just beautiful.
I heard something that said it sold bad initially, but was eventually profitable.
I can't believe this is a family friendly channel when the term "bodacious nymph" was used lol...😅
This was my first Rayman Me and my brother played the heck out of this game
I beat this on the ps vita back in the day, really fun game and was challenging
Awesome review!
Thank you Sir!
implantgames your welcome!
Amazing game. I have 2 requirements for most games.
1. Gameplay
2.Atmosphere
The game is fun and interesting to play throughout each level while the art style makes the game so easy to look at. And holy shit...the music is phenomenal. The game wouldn't be the same for me without it's incredible soundtrack.
I had no idea how spoiled I was as a kid
I thoroughly agree... played this on the Wii, and then PC (and then Legends on PC).
...and now the Switch 🙂
See you in Rayman 4! 😆 Where's Murfy!?
he shows up at the start
YES PLEASE! Will you make a legends review?
Coming up next, stay tuned!.
This game is good stuff, indeed
