I love how when talking about the cows you're like "do whatever works", but then with the chickens you're like "do it right". 🤣🤣 But I agree with you. The only way for us newbies to learn is through trial and error. I can't stand when people are like "you have no business raising such n such if you have no experience". Well, how else does one get the experience? 🤷♀️🤦♀️
Yeah that may seem a bit contradictory. What I mean is there is no one way to do things right and don't box yourself into "the only way". So on the chickens, you don't have to buy a big fancy plucker. There are small drill driven pluckers for $10-$15. Or you can even dip in a pot by hand and then pluck by hand. We don't do all of our fencing like Greg Judy but we have solid fence that keeps the animals in. Yeah do whatever works........but it has to WORK. Not fussing but that's my take on it. And to the expereience. Exactly! You have to just get in there and do it. You'll make mistakes and you get better for those mistakes. You improve the next time around and that takes time. Chuck I'd like to see more of your daily routine, even without much dialogue if that's easier. I've relied on your channel to learn so much about this style of multi-enterprise farming but I also really enjoy watching the basic routines, the livestock, etc. What you're doing is successful and entertaining, proof is in the thousands of folks that want to follow along. I love Greg's videos and Justin's and all the others, but your channel is unique and has it's own feel that i look forward to. Don't sell yourself short, and don't let these know-it-all naysayers get you down.

Having pictures of the farm when you go to a farmers market is so important. Have some printed out on boards just so it's easier for folks to see and get a good vibe before they even approach you. Last week I saw a new vendor that look like a reseller stand instead of a farm. Nice big chest freezers but zero "farm" appeal to the stand.

I ran across your channel and I can say I will be just as faithful to yours as to Pete’s. You are certainly engaging, educational and enjoyable. My recommendation on content block, just do what you always ask 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻open with your normal opening words and just allow us all to look at the creation around you, the amazing beauty of the blue sky, the Cotton-ball-clouds, majestic hills and mountains and the simple blessing of the animals the good Lord gave you to admin and have you teach us to do the same. Let me tell you brother. that alone will fill our homes. I love how you faithfully ask us to pray for you. With rabbits that young it's hard to tell. It's like everything else you get better at sexing them the more you do it. I think your sorting pin works great. The fact that you move your cattle everyday makes them more use to you, and easier to handle. I have seen very experienced men get hurt bad with a full blown concreted to the ground sorting pen. Some folks just don't want to see others prosper. That's why there will always be haters. Keep doing what you're doing Chuck and God bless you and your efforts.

We are raising up 10 pigs 🐖 this year after watching y'all 👀 last winter. We are doing 8 barrow feeders and 2 good looking gilts for sows. This is our first year on this project and we are excited to try doing some AI in near future, so we plan on re watching your older AI videos and red tool houses 🏘 videos also. I have seen two men, best of friends, can be together for hours and say about 4 words. Still have a great time. When we are watching you most times, it is really just to hang out with a virtual friend. Even if you don't have a point to make, just hanging out with you and Saundra is more enjoyable than you might think.
I purchased on Amazon metal frame walk in. We added the wheels and a heavier duty tarp to cover the entire top of the frame. They are very heat sensitive so just make sure air flow is max. I choose metal also bc they love to chew wood. LEISU is one of the companies that sells this.
One more note on how much they can eat. They clear the pasture grass in 24, in addition to eating 1.5 cups of feed and unlimited Timothy hay daily. Thats a lot of fertilizer 😉

Don't sweat it. Your doing fine. Here in Illinois , even chicken has to have USDA for resale. n my area they are getting around $3.75 a lb. and eggs only $3.00 - $4.00
I agree with the post anything video comment, some of us are stuck in the city and walking around with you ( on UA-cam) doing daily chorus is a way to escape the rat race and pick up little bits of info about animals and their habits with out owning them . Blessings from Japan

Everyone has the same problem with content I've seen many others say the same thing. If your stuck animal vids always do well. Just show their everyday activities, I know one channel that takes you along as the mow the pasture, plow fields, plant seeds etc. They show all their animals then consentrat on just a few talking about the animals name or number what their plans for that animal are. All animals do some antics and they try to catch them goofing off, kicking up their heals running thru the pasture, or lounging around in the waller almost completely covered in mud, or dumping a box of fruit and vegi's for treats. There's always something hoof trimming, worming, spraying for flies. You name it. They even show vet visits etc. I hope I've given you some ideas.

I just know I like watching anything with animals. I'm sure many others do also, and you have so many you'll never run out of content. Loved seeing the bunnies 🐰 ❤️ maybe you can do a video when you move them onto the grass?
Keep it up! Also, we use little twist ties that garden hose comes wrapped in for our fences instead of rope, saves my fingertips from all the little knots. Cheers from CA
Chuck, I wish we were neighbors. You'd be my best buddy. You remind me so much of the farmers I grew up around. Good people, straight shooters. Here are a couple of suggestions for videos (use them "as is" or maybe they will provide grist for your idea mill): What are your goals or ideas for future expansion of your operation? What would you like to do that you are not currently doing, or how would you like to expand, improve, or change what you are currently doing? Show us a aerial view of the farm and give us a tour of where everything is. You could share why things are where they are because of convenience, efficiency, etc. An aerial view could also go along with your "goal" video where you show the areas for future expansion (kind of like how Walt Disney use to show his plans). I love your stuff. It's very good to have you back! You, Saundra, and JW are in my daily prayers.

Chuck may I suggest you make your chicken run long and skinny like a strip. Put the chicken mobile in one end then pull it up 20 or 30 feet each day. Just a thought, best wishes. Blessings.

Despite my UA-cam name, I am a newly minted hobby farmer, not a real farmer. From the little bit of farming I've done so far (my wife and I have put in a 1/4 acre elderberry field), I have a deeper respect and admiration for REAL farmers who are betting everything on making their farms work. Being newly retired from a 36 year career in IT and just starting out in my new advocation of hobby farming, I could not imagine taking on the stress and financial risk of being a real farmer. God bless you and yours, and thank you for doing what you do to feed us.

I'd wager your audience would enjoy a few videos of what you describe as mundane. Just some day to day feeding, animal moves; maybe things you might notice (or look for) for animal health in observing your animals as you pass some day to day tasks, maybe some span video of your beautiful farm. Its a typical day for you but a lot of these folks are just looking to spend some time on your farm ;-). You're doing a great job! Cheers brother.
Chuck we live in the city, or I'm gonna say alot of us do so....anything you do is interesting to us. Selling a half a beef, whole beef. 20 chickens. Going to markets. I'd love more on the eggs....from the chicken to the customer, what all happens in between. Saundra is doing more marketing.....can we see? We all dream of what your doing but your doing it. Glad to see you thriving. Don’t let the old heads get to you. Farming is evolving and farming is expensive. A $20,000 facility is awesome and I’m sure me and you both would have a blast working cattle in one. But how many years would it take to pay for that facility? On the eggs I have a problem in my area. I can get $5 a dozen with a ton of gripes from customers. At that cost I make about $.75 cents a dozen. I put them at $6 and sales plummeted. Honestly at this point I’m tempted to reduce numbers and provide eggs only for my family.

Yay...bunnies! And bunny manure! Kinda surprised rabbits don't fall under poultry regulations. They do here in Maryland which is why we're wanting to do them. My wife breeds dogs and we know a lot of people who feed a raw and whole prey diet. So we hope rabbits bring a lot more value to the table. Go price dried rabbit ears for dog treats.
They used to fall under the same exemption here in NC but somewhere along the line things changed. We'll just adjust and go with it. Dried rabbit ears? Didn't know that was a thing.
No matter what you do in life you cannot please everyone, so just do what works for you. I think feed prices are going up in every country, our pigs feed keeps going up Just about on a monthly basis her in the Philippines. Great video as usual and happy farming
I'm a certified welder for a military contractor I've worked with new welders over the years I've showed them how I do it after the get the hang of it I've always told them if you find away that works better for you do it as long as it's done correctly
Chuck if you want to stay consistent and work on one or two videos a week, try producing the same number of videos, but shorter videos. So if you have less content you think is appropriate, reduce your video length to make up for that. So on a slow week you could still have two videos a week but only at 10 minutes each. That could help you with your problem. Thanks
Its funny you bring that up. I had started doing that (shorter 8-10 min videos) and then I had to be gone for a few days. I just fell off the wagon so to speak. That is really a solid plan and what I'm trying to get back to. Have footage for 2 more videos now to put together and publish over the next few days. Appreciate the suggestion. Tells me I'm not to far off the mark.
Oh my goodness.....those are pretty mild ''RANTS''......l have observed that other YT channels are cutting down, and though they don't say it, lack of interesting content is probably one reason. l don't find yours every boring. Your ''real world, marketplace'' experience ... and mistakes...are invaluable. Not wanting to cross your privacy lines, l wonder what you do in the way of family garden....fruit trees? Have you observed improved pasture? Anyway, just a few questions.....and thank you for your videos.
Its either a Gallagher S10 or an S20. They are both about the same and work fine for the chickens. Its more about keeping critters out than chickens in. Thanks for watching.
Hello Chuck i am doing 4 feeder pigs for family and friends this year for the first time. I did some research online and seen that to raise a feeder to market wieght would take 900ish lbs of feed. I just did the math and we are at 5400 lbs of feed and still have a month to go, am I doing something wrong?
Should’ve told that rancher to donate his services and 10-20k towards a “professionally” built handling facility. I have no idea why people are so fussy about permanent infrastructure the first go around.
Have you considered re-seeding your timber paddocks back with some kind of forage so you can rotate back through sooner with a higher nutritional forage? Something like a peas or a brassica family plant?
Your comment about this being your highest selling month - I'm curious, do you think your utube channel drives buyers to you? Also, don't let that idiot that said someone was going to get killed with that cattle loading set up get to you. There's nothing wrong with it, my set up is pretty much the same.

I'm selling just about everything live then I get it butchered or I butcher it for the person that bought and is the owner of the animal . Then he can have it processed by anyone he wants and the government has no say in it .

Compared to the care you give to your pigs, I’m really surprised that you keep rabbits in cages. European rabbits live in colonies on the ground, not alone in mid air. You are putting a psychological stress on them for your own convenience. If you are determined to keep rabbits, please investigate colony keeping and ditch the cages.
Hold on friend. They are going out on grass. They were in the rabbit hutches for breeding purposes. The young ones will be processed and the adults will go back in for winter.
@@SheratonParkFarms there’s no need to ever put them in cages. If you can manage having boars and sows without confinement you can do the same for the rabbits all year long, no matter if they are does or bucks.

I saw the steer loading video. The only thing I would say is to add a cut gate in the alley to keep them from backing up. I say if it works, it works.
Good point. We used a short piece of 4x4 on the second loading as a stop to keep them from backing up. Was very helpful.

Our 4 buck Flemish Giants clear 30sq ft in 24 hours. I mean clear the pasture area to the ground. Daily moving is a must. Fantastic farm addition.
What kind of pen or structure do you use to move them around with? We are thinking about using the Salatin harepen

Just show their everyday activities, I know one channel that takes you along as the mow the pasture, plow fields, plant seeds etc. They show all their animals then consentrat on just a few talking about the animals name or number what their plans for that animal are. All animals do some antics and they try to catch them goofing off, kicking up their heals running thru the pasture, or lounging around in the waller almost completely covered in mud, or dumping a box of fruit and vegi's for treats. There's always something hoof trimming, worming, spraying for flies. You name it. They even show vet visits etc. I hope I've given you some ideas.

I just know I like watching anything with animals. I'm sure many others do also, and you have so many you'll never run out of content. Loved seeing the bunnies 🐰 ❤️ maybe you can do a video when you move them onto the grass?
Keep it up! Also, we use little twist ties that garden hose comes wrapped in for our fences instead of rope, saves my fingertips from all the little knots.

Chuck, I wish we were neighbors. You'd be my best buddy. You remind me so much of the farmers I grew up around. Good people, straight shooters. Here are a couple of suggestions for videos (use them "as is" or maybe they will provide grist for your idea mill): What are your goals or ideas for future expansion of your operation? What would you like to do that you are not currently doing, or how would you like to expand, improve, or change what you are currently doing? Show us a aerial view of the farm and give us a tour of where everything is. You could share why things are where they are because of convenience, efficiency, etc. An aerial view could also go along with your "goal" video where you show the areas for future expansion (kind of like how Walt Disney use to show his plans). I love your stuff. It's very good to have you back! You, Saundra, and JW are in my daily prayers.

Chuck may I suggest you make your chicken run long and skinny like a strip. Put the chicken mobile in one end then pull it up 20 or 30 feet each day. Just a thought, best wishes. Blessings.

Despite my UA-cam name, I am a newly minted hobby farmer, not a real farmer. From the little bit of farming I've done so far (my wife and I have put in a 1/4 acre elderberry field), I have a deeper respect and admiration for REAL farmers who are betting everything on making their farms work. Being newly retired from a 36 year career in IT and just starting out in my new advocation of hobby farming, I could not imagine taking on the stress and financial risk of being a real farmer.

I'd wager your audience would enjoy a few videos of what you describe as mundane. Just some day to day feeding, animal moves; maybe things you might notice (or look for) for animal health in observing your animals as you pass some day to day tasks, maybe some span video of your beautiful farm. Its a typical day for you but a lot of these folks are just looking to spend some time on your farm ;-). You're doing a great job! Cheers brother.

Glad to see you thriving. Don’t let the old heads get to you. Farming is evolving and farming is expensive. A $20,000 facility is awesome and I’m sure me and you both would have a blast working cattle in one. But how many years would it take to pay for that facility?
On the eggs I have a problem in my area. I can get $5 a dozen with a ton of gripes from customers. At that cost I make about $.75 cents a dozen. I put them at $6 and sales plummeted. Honestly at this point I’m tempted to reduce numbers and provide eggs only for my family.
They have a skin over there private, you can pull it back and see if they're bucks or does. They don't like it but it's pretty easy.

Yay...bunnies! And bunny manure! Kinda surprised rabbits don't fall under poultry regulations. They do here in Maryland which is why we're wanting to do them. My wife breeds dogs and we know a lot of people who feed a raw and whole prey diet. So we hope rabbits bring a lot more value to the table. Go price dried rabbit ears for dog treats.
They used to fall under the same exemption here in NC but somewhere along the line things changed. We'll just adjust and go with it. Dried rabbit ears? Didn't know that was a thing.

I'm a certified welder for a military contractor I've worked with new welders over the years I've showed them how I do it after the get the hang of it I've always told them if you find away that works better for you do it as long as it's done correctly
Chuck if you want to stay consistent and work on one or two videos a week, try producing the same number of videos, but shorter videos. So if you have less content you think is appropriate, reduce your video length to make up for that. So on a slow week you could still have two videos a week but only at 10 minutes each. That could help you with your problem. Thanks
Its funny you bring that up. I had started doing that (shorter 8-10 min videos) and then I had to be gone for a few days. I just fell off the wagon so to speak. That is really a solid plan and what I'm trying to get back to. Have footage for 2 more videos now to put together and publish over the next few days. Appreciate the suggestion. Tells me I'm not to far off the mark.

Its either a Gallagher S10 or an S20. They are both about the same and work fine for the chickens. Its more about keeping critters out than chickens in. Thanks for watching.

Hello Chuck i am doing 4 feeder pigs for family and friends this year for the first time. I did some research online and seen that to raise a feeder to market wieght would take 900ish lbs of feed. I just did the math and we are at 5400 lbs of feed and still have a month to go, am I doing something wrong?

Have you considered re-seeding your timber paddocks back with some kind of forage so you can rotate back through sooner with a higher nutritional forage? Something like a peas or a brassica family plant?

I'm selling just about everything live then I get it butchered or I butcher it for the person that bought and is the owner of the animal . Then he can have it processed by anyone he wants and the government has no say in it .

Compared to the care you give to your pigs, I’m really surprised that you keep rabbits in cages. European rabbits live in colonies on the ground, not alone in mid air. You are putting a psychological stress on them for your own convenience. If you are determined to keep rabbits, please investigate colony keeping and ditch the cages.
Hold on friend. They are going out on grass. They were in the rabbit hutches for breeding purposes. The young ones will be processed and the adults will go back in for winter.
@@SheratonParkFarms there’s no need to ever put them in cages. If you can manage having boars and sows without confinement you can do the same for the rabbits all year long, no matter if they are does or bucks.
