Anything can happen on a movie set, and seeing an actor’s natural reaction to a scene can make a huge difference when creating an authentic moment. For several iconic films, we get a glimpse into the actor’s true self and are riveted with the results. Let’s dive into some movie history where actors are not just acting on-screen, they are just being themselves and enjoying the performance that comes with it.
The list includes iconic actors including Dustin Hoffman, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Julia Roberts among others. Often, some of our favorite movie scenes include these moments where actors were just being themselves. There are cases in horror films like Alien and The Exorcist where the crew tried to shock the actors as much as possible. There are comedy scenes where actors were laughing and breaking from their serious scenes. A lot of physical moments included scenes within Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory along with Fight Club. In Pretty Woman one of Julia Roberts’ most iconic scenes was an ad libbed moment which caught the actress off guard. Other movies on the list include hits like Glory, There’s Something About Mary, and Back to the Future Part III. In some cases, actors were actually put into the hospital, a case that would often happen to famed action star Sylvester Stallone. The Blair Witch Project was filmed with an extremely low budget and including new actors who mostly portrayed themselves on the big screen. Watch to see all 25 scenes of actors just being themselves and reacting naturally to a lot of moments.

You missed pirates of the Caribbean when captain jack sparrow yells ‘I GOT A JAR OF DIRT I GOT A JAR OF DIRT!’ That was not scripted that was just him being him(you can also see will looking at the camera for a split second with a facial expression of ‘wtf is going on this wasn’t the plan)
Yeah and funny thing about that is that he ACTUALLY HAD AN JAR OF DIRT... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
fun fact: he did this because the cannons in the ship were delayed and he needed to fill the silence
When Jack falls down the stairs, that wasn't acting either.
Favorite captain Jack sparrow moment
I feel like half of potc wasn’t scripted XD
Why isnt titanic on here?
The moment Rose steps into the water when trying to find Jack- thats real. The water was FREEZING cold, her reaction is real.
Oh yeah I remember seeing video about that. It also said mentions about 1 of the water scenes where she got hurt.
She got hypothermia and had to be hospitalized I think, from being on the door so long, but ya know, "art".
@@asterismos5451 Yeah! That's right but still dang.
@@asterismos5451 i believe she even said she wouldn't work with James Cameron ever again.
Leo also screwed up a line where he tells Kate Winslet to "get on the bed" instead of the couch. This was when she took off her kimono. While not in the script, it was a perfect reaction so they kept it in the film.
Titanic is my favorite film, btw. James Cameron may not be the easiest guy to work with, but he knows what he wants. He produced 2 movies with the current highest box office records.
One you missed: in IT.(2017) when the losers first saw Pennywise it was kinda there real reaction because they didn't know what he looked like
It's not an outtake, they kept it from them on purpose.
also Jack as Eddie yelling "they're gazebos" was improv and a lot of the interactions between Eddie and Richie were too. I guess they gave them a subject matter and let them go crazy.
Wow I didn't know that I need to rewatch the movie...
That1GuyOnYT no they saw him first right before they started shooting so they we’re used to it by the time they were shooting
Uh huh. It was on a behind the scenes thing on my IT dvd

Or, you could look up the scene yourself, there's a wonderful UA-cam channel called Movie Clips and I'm quite sure you can find them there. Jesus, my dude. It's not that hard. You people whine too much on this site.
I miss Rob Flies, the original narrator of Screen Rant who made sure we would see the clips. I hope they bring him back
In Harry Potter when Draco said "you can read?"
And in The Outsiders when darry fell off the chair while talking to cherry.
The Harry Potter one I know for a fact should have been in there and the one were Bellatrix tortures Hermione
Or when Hermione punches Malfoy in the face for real instead of pretending XD
Or when Harry takes Felix Felicis. Daniel was literally himself in that whole scene.
Tom improvised that whole scene because he forgot his lines

@@axelm1624 christoph waltz won the supporting actor oscar and he is a white male so...
Exactly, i was wrong, but for my defense he was totally on the good side of history, and the social medias force didn't have this "cryshitl" power 5/6 years ago.
I'm not talking about the skills of Christopher Waltz saying all of this, is an awesome actor, like most all of the cast. :)
Just to add on, in Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets towards the end, Lucius Malfoy says something like “well we best hope Mr. Potter is always there to save the day,” in which Harry replies, “don’t worry, I will be.” It was actually improvised by the actor of Lucius to see how Daniel Radcliffe would react, and if course, he stayed in character and replied like it was in the script
that is just improvising, not a real emotion, like the others
Yeah but in an interview he said the shock in the scene was his real reaction to how well radcliffe did that part.
When they're playing the huge wizards chess in the first movie Rupert gets hit by a piece of rock in his face and flinches.

Another good one was from Chamber of Secrets when Ron and Harry use the polyjuice potion to become Crabbe and Goyle. Tom Felton (Malfoy) forgot his line after Harry makes the excuse about his glasses saying he was doing a bit of reading, and Tom replies with "I didn't know you could read."
I feel sorry for the actress in the shining. She didn't sign up for that, she was just trying to earn a living and was being verbally abused for it.
Yes. Pray for Shelly, for some reason she's on my ❤️ heart❤️
I wonder if they did that to get the reaction she was unable to portray. Sometimes they push actors, unjustly too far at times, b/c the actors portrayal isn't realistic. Breaking her wasn't okay but it did make the fear more palpable for the audience.
And yet I didn't find Shelley Duvall convincing in that role for some reason. Sorry.
Robin Williams, Alan Rickman, and Gene Wilder💔😭 it still hurts.
R.I.P
AriQuinn92 I have a All Souls’ Day in my schools and ima bring in a picture of Alan Rickman. May he rest in peace
The Dark Knight. When the Joker crashes Harvey's party and Alfred sees him emerging from the elevator. In the original script, Michael Caine was supposed to have a line he was meant to say when he saw the Joker, but instead he just stood there staring at him in awe. The reason? This was the first time Michael Caine had seen Heath Ledger in his Joker makeup, and was so shocked that he just fell into stunned silence, while Ledger proceeded with his entrance, "Good evening ladies and gentlemen, we are tonight's entertainment!"
Also when Maggie Glyenhall was threatened with a knife, she keeps looking away to cast memebers, thinking that something must be wrong.
Parker Downey and when the joker got scared when the explosions didn't work
Fun little fact: Heath Ledger refused to showcase his entire character during rehearsals, and Chris Nolan went along with it because he knew the actors’ reactions to the joker’s madness would be real and genuine. Some actors were actually terrified of The Joker when they first saw him.
emmauel mercado What? He didn't get scared. He did a better improve than any of these and hit the controller on his hand until it 'worked'. Or clapping when Gordon is made commissioner, even though he wasn't supposed to. It made the scene brilliant.
That's genius. He is terrifying, too. I'm not happy he's dead, but I don't think he could have surpassed this. It would always be 'Heath Ledger, you know, the Joker'. All of his work is fantastic, but this outdoes them by far.
Steve getting his chest hair waxed,I never laughed so hard.
He is pretty hairy... what actors won't do for their roles, huh?!!! LOL :-)
pskton KELLY CLARKSON!!!😂😂😂

Fun fact: The woman who waxed him in the movie, lied about having working experience in a beauty salon. She didn't really know what she was doing. She could've ripped his nipple off or something hahah

Same goes for Shelley Duvall. The woman got broken from playing this role.

Okay one good one wouldve been that when the tarantula is on Marvs face in home alone, that scream is genuinely real. He admitted to being terrified about the spider
Daniel Stern had to mime a scream and they had to add it in later with ADR post-production.
If Stern had screamed at the spider on his face, he could accidentally kill it.
@@krishopson9214 So the scream was fake but his terrified reaction was genuine?
@@RJALEXANDER777 I'm not talking about Steve Carrell's performance. I'm talking about Heath Ledger's performance for blowing up a hospital. Everyone somehow believes his reaction to the bombs stopping and restarting is a real reaction. Nolan has stated everything in that scene was scripted. Even Heath's reaction.
I have discussed this before, and am not totally convinced I am wrong as yet, but the situation with the hanging scene of Michael J Fox to me, may have been the trigger that began his onset of Parkinsons. Similar to what a doctor once told a friend of Muhammad Ali in that "The constant hits to the head sent massive trauma to the part where the neck meets the skull that it triggered perhaps a pre-existing condition to Parkinsons or caused it altogether." Because unfortunately, it was soon after this incident with the hanging that Michael J Fox was diagnosed himself, I can't help but feel this may have been the trigger that started it. Tragic if that has any truth to it.
I thought Parkinsons was a genetic disorder, plus I remember hearing something about how he had been diagnosed with it at an early age... like when he was like 8/10 years old... It just became public knowledge sometime during the shooting of the BTTF movies when he couldn't control it anymore without the meds! ... I don't know! Maybe you're right!
Perplexia X
It is a genetic disorder mostly in that if a parent has the condition, it is likely to be passed on to the children. But Michael did not have a parent effected by the disease. He was not diagnosed with the condition until he was on the set of Doc Hollywood when he noticed a twitch in his little finger he could not control. This was after the BTTF franchise had ended. Surly enough, something I had noticed in some of his other films, notably in the first Back to the Future, and in Casualties of War MJF was seen in one or two scenes where he would fall over backwards and hit his head violently (Especially the scene where his is hit by the car and you can see the back of his head his the asphalt) Plus in COW when he hit the same part of his head on the train tracks. Though I know this is all just movie falls and not as hard as the real thing, these too seemed to be quite aggressive impacts on the same part of his head. Hope this was not also part of what triggered all his issues as well. But since I am not a GP or expert on this matter, everything I ask is just questionable opinions on "What if's?"
Okay, well, I will just say I stand corrected! I'm not an expert on the man,
I was just relating some info I had heard somewhere! Thank you! :-)
MissEmai
Not fully. You can see a lot of the close ups that are on MJF face that it is him hitting his head and doing the majority of these. Don't forget this was 1985, and there were not as much regulations and demands by insurance companies to make every little stunt done by a stunt person.
I don't know if that flies, gutz1981, I'm pretty sure that Tom Cruise does almost all of his own stunts, at least, I've heard that That is what he claims.
...but feel free to correct me! It sounds like you're in the know me than me!
