Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. While they don't class themselves as a metal band, they don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 12th year with the original line up. And they are the best live band I have ever witnessed! Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. Miku (the founder of the band) used to work in a maid cafe in Japan and thought it'd be a cool idea to form an all female Hard Rock band dressed in Maid outfits, Thus .. "The Gap". She couldn't play guitar at all when they started so Kanami (Lead Guitarist) taught her how to play. The others are all accomplished musicians as you will see if you continue on. Shortly, all us "Madiacs" will be in here lettin you know all about these young ladies and the majority will be requesting a live performance of "Hate" ... me too. As for the maid outfits, what it does is create a "gap" between your expectations and what they actually sound like that messes with your head in a pleasant way. They're saying, essentially, yeah, we're girls... very pretty girls when we want to be... so what? What we look like doesn't matter, it's what we SOUND like!

Not only does Band-Maid play harder than most guys, they have the cajones that other guys don't have to strap themselves to the top of those cars and play while they are moving and to be very close to the explosions behind the video. Their lead guitarist, Kanami, and drummer, Akane, were singed by the blasts. These five young Japanese females are not only talented, they're fearless!
I wish they didn't have the cajones and did all their videos in a nice safe white room. I'm not a fan of them on cliffs, cars, fire all around, I don't like.

And a thing about the maid outfits, Rob: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids. Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!
They are a group of talented musicians who absolutely love what they do. With regards to their uniform, Miku the rhythm guitarist, backing vocal, main lyricist and founder of the band was a real maid at a maid cafe prior to forming Band-Maid, and thought it would be a cool idea to play hard and heavy music wearing maid outfit, that's where the band name came from. Miku probably didn't imagine the band would last this long (11 years!) but the name of the band is Band-Maid, so at least Miku has to remain a maid 😂 while other members pretty much moved on from maid look (even though they insist they are still Maids) The level of their musicianship and creativity is top level. By the time you react to 5 -10 more Band-Maid songs you'll forget their "look", or it won't distract you from their music anymore, and then the real journey begins. They are loved by many pro musicians for their distinctive style and the complexity of their music.
Feeling down? Got the blues? Rock music lost it's taste? Try another flavour. Best band this short century. After over a decade of cynicism towards new music, especially modern "rock," they made me love music again in 2021. This is a great song, but their live work is where they truly shine. I highly suggest checking out Hate or Domination LIVE.

The one thing that this video doesn't really do, is that you don't get to experience the unique and gifted bass playing of Misa. Many of their songs include a solo from her, unique in most rock music anyway, so keep an ear open for that.

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. While they don't class themselves as a metal band, they don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. Miku (the founder of the band) used to work in a maid cafe in Japan and thought it'd be a cool idea to form an all female Hard Rock band dressed in Maid outfits, Thus .. "The Gap".
She couldn't play guitar at all when they started so Kanami (Lead Guitarist) taught her how to play.
The others are all accomplished musicians as you will see if you continue on.
Shortly, all us "Madiacs" will be in here lettin you know all about these young ladies and the majority will be requesting a live performance of "Hate" ... me too. It's one of the best live performances I've seen.

Not only does Band-Maid play harder than most guys, they have the cajones that other guys don't have to strap themselves to the top of those cars and play while they are moving and to be very close to the explosions behind the video. Their lead guitarist, Kanami, and drummer, Akane, were singed by the blasts. These five young Japanese females are not only talented, they're fearless!

And a thing about the maid outfits, Rob: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids.
Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!
They are a group of talented musicians who absolutely love what they do.
With regards to their uniform, Miku the rhythm guitarist, backing vocal, main lyricist and founder of the band was a real maid at a maid cafe prior to forming Band-Maid, and thought it would be a cool idea to play hard and heavy music wearing maid outfit, that's where the band name came from.
Miku probably didn't imagine the band would last this long (11 years!) but the name of the band is Band-Maid, so at least Miku has to remain a maid 😂 while other members pretty much moved on from maid look (even though they insist they are still Maids)
The level of their musicianship and creativity is top level.
By the time you react to 5 -10 more Band-Maid songs you'll forget their "look", or it won't distract you from their music anymore, and then the real journey begins.
They are loved by many pro musicians for their distinctive style and the complexity of their music.

Best band this short century. After over a decade of cynicism towards new music, especially modern "rock," they made me love music again in 2021. This is a great song, but their live work is where they truly shine. I highly suggest checking out Hate or Domination LIVE.

The one thing that this video doesn't really do, is that you don't get to experience the unique and gifted bass playing of Misa. Many of their songs include a solo from her, unique in most rock music anyway, so keep an ear open for that.
I actually did notice the bass in one part of the song especially. Can't wait to hear more. Thanks for pointing that out
Roger rides again. Best rock band on the planet. Try HATE? live from Yokohama Arena to really get an idea about how good they really are or perhaps DOMINATION live. Live is the way to go, the they're a tremendous live band. They actually mix many geres and do excellent slower pieces too
