My dad bought my mom a Speed Queen set in 1987…..I’ve fixed them like 4 times each but they both still work-to this day-in 2023
I wish I could have one for sheets. But I can only fit small load and bedding must be done at the laundry. My kitchen does not allow such size.
In 1987 appliances used to last. My mom had her washer 20 + years new ones in the past 10 years only last til the warranty runs out. Then they tell you you might as well buy a new one😮
Mother had a Kenmore dryer from the 70's but my sister's husband threw it away and bought a new one when mom wasnt home.
36 years. Fixing it 4 times is once per 9 years! That's awesome!
Kenmore deluxe washer and dryer 1989. My Grandmother got me for College graduation. Yes, some repairs, but they work perfect today!
Buy the Speed Queen with analog dials, it will last forever.
They only look analog now.
*Go look at the reviews on their site nowadays lol. No wonder the techs like it, they get tons of service calls on it.*
@@jonslg240 we have the "Commercial Heavy Duty" top load with dial knobs and it has worked perfectly without a single service call.
Analog dials are now illegal.
Those are the TR-5, which are considered superior to these TR-7 models.
With 8 children, that woman is the speed queen. 🎉
It’s 4am here and I just woke up the whole damn house laughing at this comment. Too funny.
She should have devoted more time to riding the Speed Queen!😂
Nah the dad is a speed king
@@Tatoebot definitely has an agitator
Yeah I’m pretty sure whatever washer they had was good they probably were the problem not treating that washer and dryer like they are supposed to
My parents bought a Speed Queen in 1984, five years before I was born. I offered to buy them a brand new Speed Queen set and my dad’s reply was “We’re keeping ours until the meteor wipes out humanity. Thanks for the offer, son.”
We had a Samsung that flooded our house, when 1.5 years old, because of its joke engineering. So in 2016 we got a Speed Queen analog top load washer and dryer. They really work great. So I was looking at craigslist last Friday and saw an ad for the same pair except the dryer has a third center knob to control the beep volume. The sellers had bought a house and it came with the Speed Queens. The wife wanted a new modern washer and dryer and got some at Lowe's and the husband wanted them out of the garage. I bought them for $100 and they are like new. That was one of my better craigslist deals.
Good find 💥
didn't know
what they had.
Probably kicking selves now.

What a lucky find.
Samsung and LG is garbage. Have a top loader and a front loader totally not worth it ,issues after 1.5 years
How did it flood happen? Door not completely closed?
@@wadafruit It was a top load Samsung washer. The outside is sexy metal but the inside is plastic in the critical areas. The drain pump is attached with plastic to the tub instead of the body. If it goes marginally off balance the pump hits the side and tears off. The hose at the bottom is pushed on to a slippery plastic tube with no nipple, it is just straight. They use a weak finger clamp so the hose pulls right off with the pump allowing the water to drain out the bottom. Then it senses low water and starts filling to only go out the bottom. Samsung got class action sued and they paid the lawyers a lot of money to go away and sent us owners stickers to put around the control knob. Two thirds of the lines, presumably the explode settings, were gone and we were told to only use the spots where the lines remained. Warranty is a joke too. It costs for a visit, parts, and labor to restore it back to being a household flooding device. We threw it out. It would have been immoral to sell that junk to someone else.
When I relocated from Richmond, VA to Dallas, TX in 1998 for work, I bought a basic Kenmore Washer/Dryer pair from Sears for $498.00, and it lasted 21 years. The dryer was STILL working great but the washer had quit working. It probably was fixable but the wife wanted something new, and I caved. We bought a new Maytag Bravos MCT pair from Lowes (who ripped us off on the warranty), and my only complaint is buying it from Lowes. Five years in, no issues, and the pair works great. Stay away from Lowes, however ;-)
Great info, well presented. I enjoy your content.
I have a Speed Queen, basic model large capacity. No bells or whistles. I LOVE IT! THE PARTS ARE METAL AND NOT A BUNCH OF PLASTIC. IT IS WORTH IT.

If laundromats use speed Queen then there's a good reason. I'd rather have a basic model that costs less and will last. As long as my clothes get clean; that's what counts.
exactly. I don't want that computer screen and timers. Give me Hot/Cold dial and a knob in the middle. They did the same thing they did with cars. Added a bunch of fancy high tech stuff and all it does is break and then cost a fortune to fix.
The control boards are different between this and the physical dial versions (Those are electronic also).
This board is derived from the German brand Huebsch, acquired by SQ parent co or distribution network.
Laundromats can expect heavy use with their machines being used typically multiple times a day. As speed queen is a high end product it's price also reflects that at over twice the price of lgs second to top high end consumer model with a better warranty. These are designed for consumers to use them daily and the price reflects it, it is not a consumer friendly product when you look at it's relative short warranty and it's insane price structure. You have yo take that in mind and realize that if you are buying for home use that there are better priced but equally good machines out there. This isn't an attack on the product, it's just hard to justify its purchase for a household.
@@Ada-zn3pwmy touch pad let's me set a timer for between 15 minutes and 3 hrs on nearly all settings other than steam, I assume the steam pump would quickly become damaged after 3 hours of continuous use.
@@Ada-zn3pwthey only break because they are cheaply made. There is absolutely no reason electronics cannot be made to last, especially if you're using older electronic technology that has been proven to be reliable. They aren't using cutting edge technology. They are basically using the same types of buttons and display that my blendtec had over 10 years ago and the display nor the buttons ever failed. The dang thing still works to this day.
The issue is when they start adding things like fancy displays with graphics and all that other nonsense. This is still very minimalistic especially for all the features it has. Still doesn't have WiFi or Bluetooth, or a smart display or touch buttons.
I personally went with the TC5 because of the agitator but I would have loved a TC7 (basically a TC5 with some of the TR7 features). If you want the agitator, that's definitely a reason to get a TC5, but there is no benefit to getting a TR5 over a TR7 other than it being cheaper. If anything breaks, its probably not going to be the interface.
Guess I’m one of the fortunates to have an LG front load washer and dryer from 2006 that’s still running. Replaced the pump twice on the washer and a heater relay on the dryer. 18 years in; hopefully this one can last 25 years.
Bought speed queen washer and dryer in 1980 for my mom when I was a teenager. Living in a small row home Speed Queen were able to be partially disassembled to fit down the basement which has very narrow staircase... Anyway Both are still being used Washer never broke down and dryer only needed the drum belt replaced once it's unbelievable that they still function perfectly! 43 years!!!
Awesome
Because, back then, things were built to last!
@@mymothersaid4938They did the same thing with cars. Added a bunch of unnecessary high tech gadgets trying to one up the competition. Just more things to break and cost a fortune to fix

It's called consumer confidence. A manufacturer that fixes your product, for free, for 7 years, knows their product is good and want you to know that also.
Why would they warranty something 7 years if it's junk? Not a good business model.
This gray color is so pretty!
Mama bought a rebuilt Speed Queen retired from laundromat duty. That machine lasted another 25 years in a family of 7. Mama did 2-3 loads of laundry every day! Great brand!
The true MVP there is your mom doing all that work!
Bought a speed queen washer for my pasrents last year after having issues with whatever they had before.Brand new with old school analaog controls and like three buttons. Its great
We got one step down. The one with the 5 year warranty. It was what our local shop had in stock the same day, and the lid doesn't lock - which is great for that extra pair of socks someone finds after I've already started the washer. I love it!
Sounds like you got the superior TC5 model. Unless I'm mistaken, the TC5 is the only speed queen they sell that doesn't have a lid lock. If this is the case, you didn't go down. You went up. The TC5 has a real agitator, unlike the TR series.
@@joemann7971 Nice to know! Thanks!
Still using my Speed Queen machines I bought used in 1974. My dad retired from the military and went to work for Sears as a Washer & Dryer repairman. He had bought them from a customer who replaced them with Kenmore brand. Best $75 I ever spent.
In fact, my wife just started a washing load in them as I typed this! 😅
He taught me how to keep them going.... You can still buy replacement parts for them at appliance parts stores. Funny part is most parts they need are still in stock. Other than the new electronics, they are still mostly made the same way they did in the 60's.
Wow.
Still mostly made the same way they did in the 60's..........That's why they still work!

Love my speed Queen washer and dryer. Hands down best money I’ve spent on appliances
I'm still using the Maytag i inherited from my mom. Circa 1980. Works on tha daily.
that part 1994
The old ones are best! No dang computer parts which stop when they get damp. 🙄
@@beastshawneeSame as cars . Yeah some of the bells and whistles are nice but definitely not necessary and cost a fortune to fix
Your repair guy will thank you as well as they are put together with relatively straight forward disassembly in mind. My one and gripe I have is one I have with every dryer in existence and thats that they can be a little bumpy. This is almost never a real issue and is simply small imperfections in the drum or roller that arent sensible to find or fix. However customers sure do throw a fit when they spend 1200$ on a dryer and its not silent. Which I understand.
Get the TC5, it’s fantastic, classic clean. My Speed Queen set is over 15 years old, and if it ever breaks, I’m getting the same one again.
The problem ive run into with appliances os dealing with "warranty". Had a Frigidaire fridge, 9 months old, and due to shotty construction, lost the refrigerant and quit cooling and freezing. Dealing with warranty in another country was a nightmare. Took me weeks to get the issue resolved. Two weeks after it was fixed, the refrigerant leaked out again. My local store stepped up both times and provided me a brand new loaner fridge and eventually replaced the problem fridge with a new fridge of another brand. I bought from a local store not a big box store. I will continue to by appliances from them from now on because of the way they treated and took care of me. Buy local!!!
That's how you do it
Bought a used speed queen in 1977 and it's got us through 9 kids and 16 grand kids. Still works like new.
Best machine ever! All metal parts. I have had mine 7 years now and not a single bit of trouble.
I bought a miele washer and dryer, 20 yrs now, so far, still working, no cost,
I bought a washer and dryer speed queen nine years ago. I haven’t done a thing to them. The washer will fill the drum completely up with water, when asked to. Not like others, that won’t go more then half on a full load. I would never buy anything but a speed queen!!!
I recently got the TR5 and dryer. I have been super happy with this purchase so far! Highly recommend Speed Queen!
My parents bought a set of Speed Queen washer and dryer in 2004. They have operated flawlessly since then with very minor preventative maintenance every few years. Now that I'm an adult I know better than to buy anything other than a Queen. The Toyota of washing appliances. Yes they're a but pricey up front but their longevity is unbeatable
I bought a top of the line commercial Maytag and I have had serious breakdowns, lack of available parts = 5 months waiting and I still don’t like it all that much. Thankfully It’s finally fixed, but when it kicks the bucket next time - it’s being replaced by a Speed Queen. I asked the repair guy how hard Speed Queens are to work on, he said they don’t get calls for repairs to a Speed Queen
Yup, May tag washer died after 2 years
nooo fuckin way man, thats horrible. ive had a commercial maytag washer for 2yrs now and today it started squeaking/grinding really loud when agitating, and also started now during the spin too. Did warranty cover your repair? you said months to get the parts?! Im really dreading this
@@dank9288639 I apparently had an awesome complete 5 year warranty - over the years a few minor things were repaired with the agitator and a bearing, but then the computer board and the panel stopped working was the biggie. To buy a new one, if you could find one was more than an entirely new machine. Maytag was NOT helpful, our repair shop worked with them for months and finally a part was sent. Then as I awaited the washer part - the SAME board on the matching dryer went kaput. They replaced both - now the machines have 5 years left on the 10 year motor warranty. If they make it that long, I’ll be amazed. I’ll bet the boards go out before that. Hello new SpeedQueen in my future.
I feel like people spend so much money on washers and it’s mostly because it’s looks fancy. These things remind me of a pickup truck from the 80s or 90s. It has enough bells and whistles to be nice but is built to last a very long time.
I have a Speed Queen for over 10 years, no problem whatsoever.....love it 😅
I have a Kenmore series 90 washer and dryer for 24 years now. For the first time, last month, I changed the coupler on the washer between the transmission and motor, which cost me $6. For the drier I just replaced for the first time the cycling thermostat (which burned out) bought a kit that included 2 thermostats and two thermal fuses..so replaced everything. Cost $27 . And I have replaced the heating element twice.
I absolutely love my speed queen. It’s worth the price.
Just had my 2004 ( 20 year old) Maytag Atlantis washer repaired ( inlet water valve and bearing)
Repair man took it away and worked on it for 2 days.
Spent $900 AU hope to get at least another 5-10 years.
Initially I Purchased it for $1400 on sale.
I think it was worth it.

As someone who works on residential & commercial to industrial laundry machines I can tell you, these are impressive machines. Good stuff
Do they have the old fadhion agitator? I see what MIGHT be. I hate the new crap. Give me a top loading agitator!
Bought the 2016 version on this set though it looks identical on the display. Ours are white. They are run hard and have been great.
Got a used Whirlpool heavy duty set from circa 1991. Both still work perfectly. One repair in 10 years- $2 for the agitator dogs 😂
Every appliance guy i talk to says to repair them as long as possible, do not buy new if you can help it. Our Maytag stove, dishwasher, and washer dryer are all 20+ years old and run like new
Keep it going as long as you can because the new ones are junk.
My mom had a thirty year old dishwasher that has outlived and outperformed probably 6 or 8 of my far newer dishwashers. 😏
I've got a Whirlpool washer & dryer from the mid-90s. I had an appliance repairman out to look at my refrigerator last year, and as he was walking through the laundry room, he pointed at them and said "Don't ever let go of those. They'll never break, but if they do, you can actually get the parts to fix them - cheap. Unlike everything in the box stores now."

I have a new Speed Queen without all the electronics, and it came with a 10-year warranty on everything. At 65 probably be my last machines! love it.
I brought a similar model for my father after I got tired of fixing his maytag one that my brother got for him. I don't know how many times I had to open it up and replace parts. He has had the Speed Queen for 12 years now, no issues.
For several years I worked as a service technician for a company that was in the coin laundry business in a big way. They had locations in 6 or 7 states and ran thousands of machines. Guess what? They washer gave me my first issues a year later, the dryer stares making a hideous squeaking noise not long after that. In 2019 I decided to stop repairing them and buy new ones so I trashed them and put the old ones back in temporarily. We'll, I haven't had a single issue with the old ones so I never bought new ones.

Speed Queen is a wonderful brand.
Just got my TR7 last Friday - super impressed so far.
There used to be a laundromat by my place a couple years ago that had speed-queens from the 1970s that washed better than any smart, tweet-capable, WiFi connected washing machine. They were built like Cadillacs from before the fuel crisis. You could’ve likely washed pots and pans in those things and the washer would just keep washing .
I love my Speed Queen!!!! 5 kids!! On a farm!!
Nice sales pitch but NO. Get a TC500 it is better. I have one. Dealers are incentivized to push the 7's because they do not sell.Less reliable, 2x's longer wash times...because they don't clean they had to extend the time via software update. Very inferior but still better then most other brands.
Is one of the advantage the mechanical turn knobs vs wear & tear on TR7s touch screen?
@@miszced Not really. Those touchscreens, like a phone can take about a million presses and still work. A mechanical knob is great since there is often less to break- a direct connection to the timing mechanism. However, sadly, there is still a circut board behind all new SQ washers...even those with the old school appearance of the knob. If you need a washer that cleans well and will more relatively more reliable, and wash in half the time, you want a TC500. Notice, they are often out of stock, whilst you can get a TR7 anyday you want- because they are no tin demand nearly as much- at least not by educated shoppers.
@@MOAB-UT thanks for your quick response. I did checkout the TC500. Intrigued with American quality of design & workmanship.

I don't obsess on the American thing. I look for high quality which it is. Steel wash bucket on the inside, not just the tub. It is a very reliable machine. Best washer we ever owned by far.
I agree with the TC5 being the better model. The entire TR series is crap. Eugene, who runs UA-cam channel Lorain Furniture, owns his own business, Lorain Furniture and Appliance in Cleveland Ohio, and he was given a demo model of the Speed Queen TR 5 or 7 in 2018. He tested it out, and the review he gave it, angered Alliace Laundry (parent company of Speed Queen), that they revoked his ability to sell, and service Speed Queen washers and dryers, because Eugene refused to remove his videos. Alliance Laundry has been doing the same with other appliance stores, who they learn are not giving positive reviews on their TR series washers and dryers. That there is very shady of a company to do to independent appliance stores.
I never knew there was such a brand (I wasn't born in the US). Thank you for this video. I think my next washer will be from this brand.
I fix appliances for a living and all I do is advise people to buy speed queen. All day long I hear I had this washer for a year and it’s broken.
1969 Maytag was still running when my mother died in 2015. I rebuilt it once but the mechanical timer was original.
We needed a new dryer and I came across a reddit thread where someone called Speed Queen the "90's Honda Civic of the dryer world." Bought one no further questions asked. No regrets at all.
The black one looks beautiful
I miss my no frills GE that would walk itself across floor if load wasnt balanced during the spin. It had a mechanical cycle clock and was 15 years old when the motor died. Me being dumb bought an Amana with the load sense and lid lock garbage. Lid lock broke at about 1 1/2 years old. Then whole machine died at 3 years old due to bad control board. New board was almost $300. New machine is $400. Bit the bullet and said to myself "buy once, cry once" and bought a Speed Queen TC5. Price tag makes you want to say cry but when my GE electric dryer from 2002 dies it will be replaced with a Speed Queen DC5 no hesitation. They do not make appliances to last anymore all throw way scrap after a few years. I am liking the black/gray color of these machines though!
We’ve been through several different sets, too. We just bought a Speed Queen set and I’m looking forward at 65 to not ever buying another set!
Thank you. Someone with common sense and understands what they are saying.
I was just looking at this machine online after seeing one of your other videos discouraging Samsungs. This looks like a great washer.

Many people complained that they smell bad but mine never has because I do what the manufacturer recommends and I don’t close the door tightly when not in use. I will probably check into speed Queen when these die though. We’ll see and I hope not anytime soon.
Speed Queen front loaders are not cheap. It's over $2000, just for the washer. The dryer is over $1000. The cost is what's preventing me from getting a Speed Queen front loader.
The TR7 is nice but I didn’t want the electronic console so I went for the TC5 and I love it.
still electronics in the TC5--- you also got 2 years less warranty lol
@@whelenguy I got a ten year warranty on the machine and less electronics than the TR7. Think before you comment to someone 🤣
you paid extra then for the 10 year hahaha cause the TC5 is only 5 years look it up@@czechmate6916
also thats not 10 years factory... so your second 5 isnt as good and likely labor not included.... unless they really got you to pay a lot.@@czechmate6916
How much for the tr7 set?
That grey color looks fantastic
Don't overload your equipment, and they will last a long time.
I never did ever over load clothes don’t clean well, if i had a comforter i would use bulky setting ; no matter what if the load becomes uneven you get an Error code period. Lets not get started on the mold around the seal of the Front loader. I always wipe clean , always do a cleaning-in settings with vinegar-after so many loads. Junk junk junk. Mind you; thats not even talking about the issues with my ice-maker on my Samsung refrigerator. I love the look the huge iPad the features, but constant dripping water through icemaker, small melted ice…. Weird to me….Samsung is candy for the eye…..
Our washer and dryer growing up was a hand me down from my grand parents. It’s been going for over 45 years with no repairs apart from some wear and tear parts and regular cleanings.
Gotta love a speed queen dryer. They are heaven.
He is 100% correct. Speed Queen is well worth the money!!!!!!
