I just watched the whole series again. Quinn is the best character by far. Carrie is really amazing, but Quinn is a deeply complex yet a very principled character. More disciplined and moral than Carrie who is quite unhinged.
Yeah when you look at Saul and Carrie the two marquee characters Peter Quinn had honest morals and as the seasons went on you could see he was the most well rounded character and he quickly became my favorite by far. It was hard to watch Peter in season 6 because I was ANGRY with how his character was treated. RIP Quinn and thank you Rupert for a truly wonderful character!
Rupert should has his own series. I luuuuuuved his character. He is so gorgeous and every other quality a man should have including moral integrity. A genuinely decent man. I fell in love with him.
I hope Rupert Friend's incredible portrayal of Quinn reminds us all that the "crazy" or "scary" homeless man on the street has a backstory, and he could have been a Peter Quinn.
That is the most beautiful and insightful comment I have ever seen on UA-cam. There is so many homeless Veterans that are suffering from severe PTSD, I work with people with Mental Illness and I always treat hem with the up most respect and this comment is a tribute to that. Thank you.
Patricia, I do too! I could not believe it when the writers killed him! The poor guy had been through so much, getting shot, poisoned, having a stroke...how much more, then they killed him off. No no no! I wanted him to have that romance with Carrie...
He died a hero, but I loved his character's arcs from survival instinct, to killer, to apathetic and depressed pawn, back to killer mode...all before the stroke, then to AGAIN becoming Carrie's knight...it was a WILD ride and I will miss that acting!!
I will miss you Peter Quinn. You are an incredible actor Rupert. I fell in love with Quinn through your sensitive and multi layered portrayal. Thank you so much. Can't wait to see whatever key role you next take on.
Quinn is the coolest on-screen character ever! You are a brilliant actor Rupert. Also, if you are asked to play Bond again, please don’t refuse! Your acting experience screams ‘Bond’ to me. I can understand your reticence in some ways, but think of the possibilities playing that role would provide. You maybe were too young when first asked (if that is correct), but surely not now. Homeland won’t be the same without you. And for the record, I cried when I saw you die watching the Netflix broadcast, even though I’d watched the series before when it was first broadcast on Channel Four! Powerful stuff!
Yes, plz plz plz Rupert, dont turn it down now, plz say yes to the Bond Movie, do it for your fans, plz plz,....you will be the perfect bond with all your superb acting skills....do it for us #RupertForBond007
One of my favorite scenes was in the finale of season 4 when Carrie kept him from blowing up the car and he teared up, pointing the detonator at her and saying "God damn you, Carrie". There was so much between the lines. He will be missed dearly.
I have finally caught up with Homeland and am on S7. I was devastated when Quinn was gassed in S5 and then devastated again when he died in S6. I loved his character and miss him in S7. When he says "you have to let me go Carrie"... I was like nooooooooooooo....I don't want to let you go!!! 😥
I grieved what I thought was his death in S5 and then to go through it AGAIN in S6 i was like are you kidding me? I get too emotionally attached 😥😥 I was so disappointed that the writers didnt get him and carrie together even for a short time 😔
I do not think I have ever been quite so caught up in a series as I was with Homeland . The depth and complexity of this story has pulled me in as if I were on site in every city as the drama unfolded. It is is the most unnerving and satisfying relationship I have ever had with a series. It is gritty and dark but at the same time compassionate in a most unexpected way. I feel protected by this story line in a world that scares the crap out of me. I can't really explain that because there is violence and conflict but in the end I do feel protected. In the reality of our world the problems are so big and so faceless to absorb it all and not become paralyzed by it. Homeland scales it down to the individual , it shows good bad and exceptional on all sides and it builds my respect and acceptance of all humanity just enough to not feel so overwhelmed. I will miss Peter Quinn however he was and assassin with a impenetrable moral code who wouldn't love that. Great series keep up the good work.
Me too. Homeland was an amazing journey and Quinn was the most interesting and complex character. I loved Brodie too, but Quinn really gets top spot. I really missed him when his part ended.
I am a very very late Homeland Rupert Friend Fan...BUT I gonna say it anyway Rupert you are brilliant brilliant brilliant. I could not watch the dead scene. I can not watch the Show anymore .
It is so sad that Quinn died. He should have not died. There are three main important caracters and he was one of them. He should have not died. We are all hoping that this is all a lie and that he is just pretended to die and will be back next season. Oh how I miss him!!
Maria Makarem The show has always been about the relationship between Carrie and Saul. As much as I loved Quinn, he was a supporting character to those top two.
How the hell will they write the new season and quinn is back and he just "pretended" to die. He was riddled with fuckin bullets. If they bring him back in anything aside from a flashback cameo, the show would lose all credibility. This isn't Days of our Lives ffs
Favorite Peter Quinn lines: (re Saul's duck hunting attire), If I were a duck, I'd be scared...and (when hitchhiking from the cottage to the town...regarding Astrid), She's a German spy lady...and (when he shot the rock thrower at Carrie's brownstone), I shot him in the safe space...(when he tracked down the dealer that robbed him of $2k), How much do I owe you now? (Nothing. Zero), Fucking right!
I think Peter Quinn was one of the absolutely fundamental characters in the Homeland series. It was the other half and Carrie's antithesis at the same time. In his being "he who kills the bad guys" (best phrase of all time!) He has always been intact in his task, apparently cold and calculating, hides a good soul full of desire for affection and "normality". It was a heavy blow to witness the death of that character, in my opinion a really difficult choice made by the producers. Even now I wonder if it was the right decision or not. However, we miss Peter Quinn a lot and he left a great void for both the public and the character of Carrie. Rupert Friend, I didn't know you but now I have discovered a great actor. Thanks for your interpretation !!!!
love Quinn and respect Rupert as a fantastic actor! he studied so much in order to prepare for Quinn. he has such a beautiful heart, and if you look carefully when he acts in season 6, he even blinked in a different way to shown the suffering of brain damage. really like him.
I think that when Carry went through the pictures in Quinn's dresser drawer and found his memories of her, Franny, his ex-wife and son, it really summed up the emotional and tragedy of Quinn's loses in life. 😀👋💖
I wish they’d taken his character in a different direction. It was heart rending to watch him in season 6. I wanted Quinn and Carrie to end up together
I hope they will make a homeland spin off with Quinn only. Showing how he became that Quinn that we was in the show. and showing lots of his action skills as a CIA operative. And I want the producers of Strike Back running that show then.
Just finished binge watching homeland (season 1-6) during quarantine. I must say Quinn has become one of my all time favourite tv characters. But I felt I needed to go on this rant even if no-one s going to read it just to get some things off my nerdy chest. I chose this video because had I been there three years ago I would have asked this question: do you feel that in the end the way quinn's death was portrayed was fair to him? I mean we are talking about the guy that during this season (6) singlehandedly, despite his state, solves the puzzle (finds black hat guy, finds the truck and even figures out the plot to kill the president "r is for romeo") all through being shot, blown up, beaten up. And what happens? Gets killed quickly then suddenly here we are 6 weeks later. WTF??? We get no funeral, short and misterious lines about him (see what max says to Carrie) and just like that life goes on. I think he deserves better. Much better. I mean I understand the shock factor that is needed to keep audiences gripped and all but I have never seen something like this. I have seen my fair share of sudden unexpected deaths (GOT, SOA, lost and so on) but come on. They have been dragging this character through an awful amount of suffering and pain (hard to watch at times with an almost sadistic aftertaste) for two entire seasons. Still he manages to save the day wherever he goes. If you want to kill the guy do it but do what he has brought to the show and to the storyline justice. They just didn't. Can't figure out why. But it sure sucks.
The writers showed that not everyone gets a happy ending. Take a step back and look at the culmination of events and what Quinn went through with his hitting rock bottom then having even MORE bad events occurs combined with how he grew up and I’m guessing a lack of family life that lead to his particular line of work. At the end of the day Dar Adal was akin to the Emperor and Quinn was a Jedi under his command. A pawn to do his bidding. Quinn’s moral compass was showing itself and how he wanted OUT of the life. However as with many things once you’re IN......you’re IN for life. In Quinn’s case no matter how much he tries to run away he is always back in those situations he was destined to be in. In the same way that everyone around Carrie ends up getting hurt no matter her intentions, Quinn’s end was fitting in that we see how quickly the script can flip. Look at how President elect Keanne flipped on Carrie after she saved her life.
It does really suck.. I feel exactly the same. It feels so unfinished. Read someone else say he stole the spotlight too much from carrie. He honestly could have his own series. I did really not believe he was dead because I dont think this was a right way to go. Not let him say a few last words to carrie or something. Not even filmed his memorial. Its a shame to the fans.
@@Juviosa_ There’s a level of intelligence the writers assume the viewers have that doesn’t make all obvious point necessary to show and it moves the story along without any bumps in the road that will slow the story progression. It real life we rarely get a chance to make every situation perfect and the writing of Homeland reflects that very well. As far as Quinn having too much screen time, many of the best series don’t focus too heavily on one person.
He deserved a lot better but got got dealt a bad hand. if that isn’t like life, then idk what is. I think the heartbreaking ending made it feel more real
@@Assimilator702 wow, i really appreciate your comment. Very nicely put. I mean maybe I got too attached to the character and wanted a softer exit, if an exit at all. I think the biggest problem for me has always been the brutality of what he went through. It is nice though to share and listen to different point of views. Thanks!
I just binge watched the entire 6 seasons! Rupert, you are an incredibly amazing actor! I loved your character and I want to see more of you in films! Thank you for bringing your amazing talent to America! I can hardly wait for Season 7, but I am going to miss you terribly! I actually cried when you died in Season 6 finale!
The fact he didn’t get that Carrie has feelings shows that he is still so in Character, ✌️respect. The whole series about Carrie feeling really fucking emotional and loving everyone, but looking at the big picture to save us all.
I watched "Homeland" off & on in its day. I knew I was missing great acting & writing. I sat down for 5 days. Binging on the best. I can't say enough wonderful things about Rupert & the entire cast. I have to go back& revisit the "Carrie & Quinn's "moment" in her basement? Regardless, this is superb storytelling. I only suspected Quinn was a Brit , (an AMAZING American accent), when I saw that his name was Rupert. what an actor - much success to him.
Rupert became the only reason that I continued to watch the show. I loved Clarie Danes work but Rupert just made this series HIS. When Quinn was taken out, I was done. I never watched it again. So sad.
Incredible good looking Actor, amazing acting as Peter Quinn, S6 watch rewatching till the end of Quinn. I still want to watch HomeLand all over again.
I think Quinn knew he was going to die when he left the garage. Shot down in a blaze of glory. I miss you on the show. Thank you for this q&a and your work as Quinn. 🇨🇦
I feel like Quinn was the only one to make Carrie see things from a normal human's perspective and give her a reality check, which was ironic because he was an assassin who was not supposed to have feelings. He was an extraordinary character and now I see Rupert is an extraordinary person himself. Thank goodness he is not cursed like Quinn. He deserved love. I was so mad at Carrie for not looking for him when her boyfriend told her he was out there bleeding to death, refusing to go the hospital to keep her safe. I was furious with her for waking him from a coma. And I wish she had told Quinn that after seeing her mom, she tried to call him, went to Adal to reach him. I wish he had known that. I think it would have mattered to him that she would have said yes to him. I wish he had just waited for her and not gone to Syria.
Quinn knew, and he tackled it head on. As if some things and some people are worth dying for. I don't think he wanted to live with his disability when it took away the things he valued the most.
My favorite Quinn moment was when Carrie tracked Quinn to Astrid's house and met him in the parking garage. That whole exchange between Carrie and Quinn was hilarious. " So you found me, congratulations" . Carrie- "I don't think it's wrong what you're doing. In fact, I'm sympathetic" Quinn- " Good for you" Carrie-" But you have to stop" Quinn-- " Now you're losing me" Carrie- " It's dangerous" Quinn- " That's what you say" 😂
I’m a bit behind the times and have only just finished series 6. However I do think that Quinn was one of the best characters in the show and was really sad to see what had happened to him *sniffle*. Nice one Rupert. 👍
While I understand that for a person that was very active very assertive as a soldier, being disable must have ben like being in a prison with in his own body, but still he derved a life his whole life was one of service, he deserved better!
He sure did. And what a shitty message to disabled vets this show sent--that you if you're damaged, you may as well die because life isn't worth living.
Loved his character and acting. Max didn't have to tell me he was unhappy. We all knew. Cried when he died. Wish Carrie never woke him up from his medical coma. Things could have been so different. Going to miss you Peter Quinn.
Amy Bown with all respect, Quinn had been undergoing a great deal of conflict regarding his being an assassin. It had worn his soul down to a near-empty thing. Add to that, his longing to be with Carrie & to be ultimately rejected by her, the guilt of killing a child (keep in mind he was a father, himself, who could not see his son), & finally being left physically & mentally damaged after the exposure to Sarin . A very complex set of circumstances, all in all...
Am i the only one who wanted Quinn to end with Astrid ? She loved him no matter how he was, she really loved him. Anyway, Quinn was one of my favorite character of all time. Wen he died, I couldn't believe it, until the end, I thought he was still alive in some way. I also loved seeing Dar Adal show how dear Peter was to him. He loved him like a son but in the final, when Saul come speak to Dar, they don't talk about Quinn' death, I wanted to see his reaction. He lost his son...
I've been watching Homeland for the second time. First on Netflix and now on Disney Plus. Quinn is the best. A complex and deeply principled character. I liked Brodie, but Quinn really captivated me. I really missed him when he died. I wanted Quinn to just go on and on.
Really sad that Quinn's gone. Thought it would happen but hoped it wouldn't. Great character. Who wouldn't want him covering your back. What a way to go, doing his patriotic best and saving Carrie again plus the dodgy president elect. Looking forward to series 7 but I'll miss Quinn. Keane must be a wrong'un, she's had Saul arrested - take the job and sort her out Carrie!
Rupert Friend is an magnificent actor that was a tas because not only he had to keep the american accent but too he had to act brain damaged and he nailed it.
I adore Peter Quinn,, to the degree I had to pause Episode 6 and go find a Facebook friend who'd seen the show. It's March of 2020 and I've only this past week been devouring Homeland. When SWAT was outside Carrie's house I need my friend to tell me if Peter dies that episode. I needed to prepare myself. She said no not then but yes that season. Knowing 12 show his death I was calm even as I gasped, cringed, and murmured his name.
I honestly felt they really mishandled Quinn in seasons 5 and 6 despite how magnificently Rupert performed the role. He was sidelined for most of 5 and it seemed like they just gassed him to give that whole jihadist subplot some weight and be "subversive". Then they decided they didn't want to kill him, benched him for another season and put him through more suffering, then killed him anyway. Felt a bit... off.
Ι know I'm late af but I just finished season 6 and I cried buckets. Yes I'm sensitive af 😂. They did Quinn so dirty , we didn't even get to see his funeral. I felt so sorry for him the whole season. Every time I saw him on a scene my heart broke. Rupert did an amazing job portraying this character.
I’m not a cryer but I shed a few tears when Quinn died. I was hoping that Carey would tell him how much he meant to her. Hoping they’d get together. & the ending was so sad. It didn’t feel like he had a fair goodbye in life. It’s just not the same without Quinn. It felt like Quinn was just starting to get his bad ass shelf back. You played the role beyond well. 👏🏼
Without u Rupert I'm not watching anymore. You were the only one with any integrity whatsoever and just got it and no one else did. Carrie is pathetic. She never got Quinn and really missed out .
One of my most favorite scenes with Quinn was his briefing at Langley where he has just gotten back from a 2 year stint in Syria. I like this scene because if there was ever a chance (before too many more years pass by and Mr. Friend gets any older) that another show could steal and scene and bring Quinn for a guest appearance (assuming it was around those years of 2013/2014) it would just be an awesome way to introduce him into another show. K-Dramas come to mind. Peter Quinn the missing years before he heads off to Berlin - in a K-Drama - doing his badass thing with some LE South Korean unit for just a short stint (like maybe something involving data being stolen or a high profile kill opportunity under the disguise of an Analyst like in Season 2) would be amazing. Just one of those fan fantasies that would blow people's minds. :)
Shame about the sacrifice made by the character of Quinn to save the lives of Carrie (understandable) and Keane, who looks like she's about to become a dictator, heading a very undemocratic regime.
I love Quinn. Great work, RF. I am in season 7 now and I don't even want to watch the show anymore. Carrie does a great job, but without at least a few of her original team - *shrug*
I loved Quinn and am now on Season 7 and can't believe he is gone. I ultimately wanted Carrie and Quinn to be together in the end, so it is quite disappointing.
I recently watched the finale of S6 and I am glad to find this discussion. I think regarding the ambiguity of whether Quinn's knew he would be sacrificing himself or if he thought he would make it is an interesting question, and to me it seems that Quinn solely focused on the priority of getting Carrie and Keane to safety and calculating how to do that and that the rest, including whether or not he would make it, was not so much a priority for him as long as the mission was accomplished, which was kind of what his attitude towards life as a soldier was, just like when he was going to kill Haqqani in S4 where there that question did not enter his mind either until Carrie forced him to reconsider, which was why as he said he could not get out of the dark hole alone and unfortunately in S6 I find that he was left unbearably even more alone.. His character was mesmerising and drew me even more to the show, and now it feels there is an emptiness without him.
I just got done watching his last episode and came right to UA-cam 😢😢😢😢 I literally cried tears wow what a great actor he is I’m not gonna get over this for a minute
I think Quinn knew and accepted this was the end for him and he was willing to make the sacrifice, as he always is. He's that badass and the hero Everyone wants. What makes me saddest was the moment with Astrid. I thought he was finally turning a corner and had a chance. But he could never catch a break (from the writers 😔😣). Why couldn't he have one good thing happen?
I had to watch this after just finishing season 6 to get a proper goodbye since the writers of Homeland decided we didn’t need one. #quinndeservedbetter
I wish I could be like him and wouldn't have to look back and contemplate on what I've been working on in anxiety, for knowing exactly how I did it when I did it.
Thanks for an outstanding 5 seasons, definitely Emmy worthy. My ending was with you and Astrid running off together. Look forward to your next project.
Favorite Quinn moments: when he is being a bad cop while interrogating Brody. When he is in a car in Islamabad and starts shooting the mob tryingbto save Carrie and a station chief. when he is at the embassy in islamabad again while the terrorists are at the vault demanding documents. And when he jumps out of the hospital bad and undresses in front of carrie saing “like you haven’t seen a dick before” or something like that ohhh and during his debrief when he is back from the middle east suggesting they turn raqqa into a parking lot. That is badass
It’s 2023 and I still miss Quinn. I’m rewatching the series now and just starting S5 in Berlin. It’s sad knowing what’s coming…
It's been three years and I'm still rewatching every episode with Peter Quinn.

So sad.
He's so Amazing. But so underrated. He deserves so much more. I watched "the swan" of Wes Anderson and Rupert Friend was Phenomenal. I love him ❤❤❤❤
Incredible good looking Actor, amazing acting as Peter Quinn, S6 watch rewatching till the end of Quinn. I still want to watch HomeLand all over again.
I don't know who I'm gonna miss the most ? Peter Quinn it Rupert Friend ? Both I guess 😭😭😭

Love you Rupert. You have a beautiful heart and it shows through.
It sure does. Rupert Quinn forever
Quinn went through HELL. Broke my heart.
The only reason I watch Homeland is because Peter Quinn. Without him, it's not even worth watching.
pangyr Ditto
My favorite Quinn moment was when Carrie tracked Quinn to Astrid's house and met him in the parking garage. That whole exchange between Carrie and Quinn was hilarious. " So you found me, congratulations" . Carrie- "I don't think it's wrong what you're doing. In fact, I'm sympathetic" Quinn- " Good for you" Carrie-" But you have to stop" Quinn-- " Now you're losing me" Carrie- " It's dangerous" Quinn- " That's what you say" 😂
I love him as Peter Quinn , fucken unbelievable actor
I love that he wrote the letter.
K S I just learned that. Wow! What a guy!
Thank you for doing this video Rupert Friend.
Dar Adal sexually abused Quinn when he recruited him at 16. Definitely wouldn’t consider that love...
Good Golly, Miss Lolly perverse, selfish & deluded obsession is how I'd characterise it
He kind of did 😵💫😖
I've been watching Homeland for the second time. First on Netflix and now on Disney Plus. Quinn is the best. A complex and deeply principled character. I liked Brodie, but Quinn really captivated me. I really missed him when he died. I wanted Quinn to just go on and on.
Peter Quinn = perfect. I loved you.
Quinn’s character was awesome. I missed him when he left homeland. I wish you would have found love in homeland. You’re gorgeous!!!
He's so adorable 😍
Really sad that Quinn's gone. Thought it would happen but hoped it wouldn't. Great character. Who wouldn't want him covering your back. What a way to go, doing his patriotic best and saving Carrie again plus the dodgy president elect. Looking forward to series 7 but I'll miss Quinn. Keane must be a wrong'un, she's had Saul arrested - take the job and sort her out Carrie!
Rupert Friend for James Bond
I miss Peter Quinn too
Max having Carrie's back made me laugh out loud, he's moved to Carrie's basement, will fall in love with her and die twice, in season 7/8.
Rupert Friend is an magnificent actor that was a tas because not only he had to keep the american accent but too he had to act brain damaged and he nailed it.
i just finished season 6..i cant find the reason to keep watching but i also cant say i wasted time. youre such a wonderful actor. im so heartbroken.
Felt a bit... off.
I completely agree 100%! His character was treated horribly. 😔😥
Your character will be missed
He had to make a decision to save both of them with the odds :( what an awesome hero
Totally agree....💔
I’m not a cryer but I shed a few tears when Quinn died. I was hoping that Carey would tell him how much he meant to her. Hoping they’d get together. & the ending was so sad. It didn’t feel like he had a fair goodbye in life. It’s just not the same without Quinn. It felt like Quinn was just starting to get his bad ass shelf back. You played the role beyond well. 👏🏼
At 6:50 he said my name Erika F. I was watching him live and never knew he would actually read my question 😭😭😭
Without u Rupert I'm not watching anymore. You were the only one with any integrity whatsoever and just got it and no one else did. Carrie is pathetic. She never got Quinn and really missed out .
Carrie was never worth of this kind soul...pathetic b***h...you never deserved him
One of my most favorite scenes with Quinn was his briefing at Langley where he has just gotten back from a 2 year stint in Syria. :)
He is humble. Authentic.
Shame about the sacrifice made by the character of Quinn to save the lives of Carrie (understandable) and Keane, who looks like she's about to become a dictator, heading a very undemocratic regime.
Exactly, he died for nun-American president, even season5 Peter Quinn's "death" was better.
He is such an amazing person
I felt the blood drain out of me body when Quinn got shot, I screamed, WTF... out loud 😱😨😭
He did not get the girl😭😤😭😤😭😤😩after all he went through 😲😠
Me too and I was watching it for the second time! Best dying scene ever, if dying can be ‘best’.
#NoQuinnNoHomeland
#NoQuinnNoHomeland
I love Quinn. Great work, RF. I am in season 7 now and I don't even want to watch the show anymore. Carrie does a great job, but without at least a few of her original team - *shrug*
Rupert became Homeland....without him the story fell flat.
Homeland shld just end... Peter Quinn never the same without u... I actually cried aaaauch
We will miss you !
Would have loved for the Carrie relationship to develop
I just got done watching his last episode and came right to UA-cam 😢😢😢😢 I literally cried tears wow what a great actor he is I’m not gonna get over this for a minute
Excelente ator muito profissional essa mini série é tão bom que eu não queria que acabasse sou fã atores maravilhosos
Quinn's character is what got me loving the movie
Loved the series
Awesome actor
I had to watch this after just finishing season 6 to get a proper goodbye since the writers of Homeland decided we didn’t need one. #quinndeservedbetter
I wish I could be like him and wouldn't have to look back and contemplate on what I've been working on in anxiety, for knowing exactly how I did it when I did it.
Rupert, i love youuuuu
Thanks 👍
Great vidéo !
Damage attracts Damage..!!
:( that is deep
Jillian love: totally agree with you.... plus as ... actor he’s very very very .... good!!!!
I’ve cried when..Peter quinn died... i loved him: now ..” homeland”... without him????
Sanie Isleam Agree. Homeland isn't the same without Quinn.😪 Plus his character never got much happiness, it's unfair.
Sanie Isleam I did too, even watching for the second time. I was willing him to drive through the police. Alternative ending? Heartbroken!
That is badass
fav moment...watching him and Saul listening to Carrie and Brody going at it in the motel...priceless
