Developing an American accent is not "faking" -- it is a skill and one that actors take seriously and strive to master. He did not "pick it up" by being in America--he worked on it as most all actors do. Most study with professionals to perfect specific accents and to expand their repertoire.

One of the most powerful threads that runs through this show is the question, “What if everything you thought you knew was false?” These characters are constantly having their entire worldviews completely shifted.
Brody is driven to action when he discovers that the most powerful people in America are abusing their power, lying about warcrimes, covering up their mistakes. In his confessional video he talks about the murder of Issa and his schoolmates as “a stain on the soul of this nation.” He acts not because he hates America but because he loves it, a love that runs through his veins but that is seriously challenged by these discoveries.
Jess, too, experiences this when she finally, after six years, decides to let Brody go. To accept that she was the wife of dead Marine. And then he’s alive. And all of a sudden she’s the wife of an ex-POW Marine. Her kids, too. Think about Chris, who never really knew his father, and who had come to see Mike in that role. Then Brody comes back. Everything is changed.
And obviously Carrie. One of her greatest assets is her complete conviction in the truth of her beliefs. That “An American prisoner of war has been turned.” Then that he hadn’t, then that he had, then that he hadn’t. She had never been “so sure and so wrong.” But of course she was so right.
The quote “And Ye Shall Know the Truth and the Truth Shall Make You Free” does in fact mark the halls of CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. It’s in the main entrance, the first thing you see when you step foot in that building.
But if this show shows you anything it’s that truth is a malleable thing. It can turn on a dime. My truth may be your lie. And something can be both true and false at the same time. Carrie and Brody chiefly speak in veiled truths and lies. You can watch their bar meet in “New Car Smell” or even their interrogation in “Q&A” and everything they say is both true and false. It goes back to their wearing “Carrie” and “Brody” as masks because that’s the only way they can see each other clearly.
In that same vein, Carrie and Brody are constantly lying to each other because it’s the only way they can see the truth.

01:58 Were you happy with how Brody’s story ended?
The main reason being to inform them exactly why and how Brody died, which right now has to be kept as a very tightly held secret. The last thing the Revolutionary Guard or the Ayatollahs in Tehran would want to hear is that this was actually a CIA operation. It has to play out that Brody was out of his mind when he killed Akbari. That has to be the official story so that whatever delicate peace negotiations transpire can move forward.
I think they did a really good job with it. I knew he had become a popular character so I wanted him served well. I wanted him to go out with a bang. I wanted him to have a grand finale. I didn’t expect a hero’s finale because Brody is not a hero, he’s become too much of a tragic figure over the course of three seasons; he’s a damaged man. I just wanted it to resonate, I wanted it to be moving, and be very affecting in the way he goes to his death with so much unsaid, so much undone. I wanted it to really register with the audience - the pain between himself and Carrie and she sees him go to his death. I just hoped we would honor all those things.
He told Carrie he didn’t want her to be there. But in those last moments he tries to find her and does. In the moment he’s being executed in a foreign land in front of strangers, it’s very clear at he would love a familiar face to look at, and even better that it’s Carrie’s - a woman that he loves. That’s really what I was concentrating on, trying to do that in a credible way while having the life choked out of me. I was concentrating on the minutia of acting.
3:30 We can say that Nick Brody was one of the best-built characters in history - alongside Carrie, Saul, Quinn, Dar Adal and Virgil, Fara, Max, Astrid... It would be possible to clarify the following doubts:
    - I would like to see Homeland reveal how the CIA explained Brody in Iran and his death to the American press. Clearly, Javadi being able to take credit for capturing Brody helped his cause in Iran, but did the US government reveal Brody's role in Akbari's murder? Was his name cleared for the CIA attack? I'd love to know what you thought.
    - Another loose thread: Paul Franklin and the murder of the "real" CIA bomber. You just did that ... why ??
Carrie was publicly humiliated, beaten, doped, shot and put her life on the line countless times without hesitation, just to make others see Brody as she saw him ... and succeeded. Abu Nazir, the CIA, Jessica and the show's own audience, no one came close to seeing Brody with the clarity Carrie has always seen. Carrie has always read Brody like no one else.
Ah, Carrie's dialogue with Javadi was awesome, it will be one of the most memorable moments of the series, without a doubt!
"And what you wanted, which was for everyone to see in him what you see. That has happened. Everyone sees him through your eyes now ..."
    - How did Carrie see Brody? and how did the US come to see it? It's the world?

Also, when he first came to the US, he had to repeat himself several times when talking to Americans, so he decided to just adopt the accent when in the US & when talking to Americans.

I've only just completed Season one in 2019. How did i miss this amazing series? As an Englishman myself, the accent is also easier because we grew up with American TV shows through the 80's and 90's. American popular culture is everywhere. I even remember as a kid trying to speak with an American accent and telling holiday friends that i was not from England, but America instead. I found England boring and America far more interesting. 30 years later that opinion is exactly the same, having visited America 10 times so far.
