I think the short answer is yes, playing a wind instrument is likely helpful in the sense that many of the mechanics of breathing are similar (though not identical). I also think some wind instruments might mirror breathing for singing better than others. This is completely anecdotal, but my experience has been that trumpet players often "over support." I'm not a trumpet player, but perhaps there is more pressure required to play the trumpet than the flute for instance. This is all just hypothesis, but technically as a singer you are also a wind instrument, so it stands to reason that playing another wind instrument could be helpful.
