    The most impressive thing about Gorilla Glass Armor glass is reflections and how it compares to other phones, especially side by side, the colors are so much brighter and not lost due to reflections, it stays clear even in bright light, with way less reflections and mirrors effect, the difference is massive comparing S24 Ultra vs S23 Ultra, or vs iPhone 15 Pro Max. This probably will be new trend. It is interesting that Samsung did not showcase it on launch.

    • @BoomSlang001
      @BoomSlang001 7 місяців тому +11

      A case is a must, but the screen protector is up for debate. Adding glass ruins the effect of the anti-reflective coating on the screen. Samsung has an anti-reflective screen protector, but it's FILM. That means no protection against falls only scratches and scrapes, and this is what the new glass does very well with. I tried Spigen's glass for only a few hours before returning it due to bad fitment, fingerprint reader issues, and dust collecting and being trapped on the sides.

I've used a screen protector on my 1000 bucks device and I broke one and ended up using another, had them installed for almost 2 years and used case for almost 3, but the difference of not having both those things feels so good I will never be able to install a screen protector again. • @AB-tc8lx
    @AB-tc8lx 8 місяців тому +14

    Learn your material characteristics as they make the glass harder to resist key scratches. Something harder will crack easier from a drop.
    Think about a ceramic cup that has no give in it whatsoever. If you wanted to survive a drop test, then you would want the glass to have a lot of movement, but it would scratch up real easy. You cannot have one Characteristic without making the other characteristic worse. If they're going for scratches, then the screen will crack easier.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  8 місяців тому +7

      @@PBKreviews, Thank for your answer. I am looking for a UA-cam channel that reviews cell phones from the perspective of oxidation resistance. I have had many problems with oxidation, such as the phone turning off and not turning on, green screen, white screen, and others. Since cell phones are getting more expensive and the manufacturers are promising up to 7 years of system updates, it makes sense that the components are more noble, with gold coatings that resist oxidation more than copper, and thus have a longer lifespan. Another factor that matters to avoid exposure to reducing agents is the ip68 protection against water. So far I have not found any UA-cam channel that takes this into account, which makes all the difference for those who buy a used phone or want to keep the same phone for as long as possible.

    Each time Corning comes out with a stronger glass, Samsung makes it thinner, which negates the additional strength. They are obsessed with ever thinner phones, whereas most customers would be ok if the phone was 0.5mm thicker and more drop-resistant

    Scratch resistance is a very good improvement

  • @Alfadrottning86
    @Alfadrottning86 7 місяців тому +1

    With glass - it is always a compromise.
    a softer glass is more drop and shatter resistant ... but much easier to scratch (especially microscratches). A hard screen (lets say - the hardest used on any smartphone yet .. HTC U Ultra 128gb version with a sapphire screen) ... nearly impossible to scrach (lvl9) .. but very easy to shatter on drop.
    Similar with the frame - a soft frame can take some impact force from a drop by denting. Some more force is taken from the thin plastic frame the glass sits in - and it all adds up. A very hard frame offers less impact deformity, transferring more force to the plastic rim and thus to the glass itself.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  7 місяців тому

      all depends on what type of glass and tech is used. look at kunlun glass on the mate 60 pro. it's both really strong which doesn't break and very scratch resistant at the same time

    • @Alfadrottning86
      @Alfadrottning86 7 місяців тому

      @@PBKreviews i do not know Kunlun glass. Is it more like Apples ceramic shielding? slightly less scratches at lvl6 .. but still lvl6? or is it like this Samsung glass that seems to endure lvl6.
      I still cannot quite believe it - because if it was an actual lvl higher than tempered glass ... it should completely shrug off micro abresions in daily usage (judging from an HTC U Ultra with sapphire screen, that my father has, that still has a pristine screen). I mean, Samsung wont bless us with transparent aluminium, because that is way too expensive and also even more resistant than sapphire.

    Some crazy Indian youtuber did many drop test of premium phone to date. S24U, S23U, Ip 15 pro max, OP12, Iqoo 12, etc. Most of these flagship phone's screen survive drop test except OP12 because of the heavy weight. The usual crack happen at the back glass especially if the back glass is weaker than the front glass like the Iphone. First place goes to Iqoo12 with no dmg at all using Schott glass and aluminium frame. So yes, you need a good case more than a good screen protector nowadays for flagship phone. I would say you don't need a screen protector at all for S24U because you will lose the anti reflection feature. If you hate scratches on screen then get the wallet type case.

      There are phones like the mate 60 pro which survive drops of all kinds plus more. But the reason I wasn't completely happy was the fact that it's a flat design vs last year's curved which on its own should be a big improvement for drops since curved is weaker. But on top of the more flat design, it has a newer gen glass on top so I was expecting it to survive a drop from waist height with no cracks. But the glass is still rounded at the edges causing it to be weaker there. on the S24 drop test video you will see it's completely flat and survived drops from higher.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  8 місяців тому

      The problem is, previous gen had curved glass which were susceptible to cracking from falls and would get large cracks along the screen from the first drop. The flat glass should not crack from waist height at all if there were improvements since the fact of it being flat alone should be an improvement. So if it already is getting an improvement with it being flat vs curved so it's "stronger", and they say it uses a newer gen gorilla glass with more improvements on top, I would expect it at least to survive any cracks from that height on the very first drop. Hope this explains.

    So while you did bash the S24 for breaking, and said it wasn't an improvement. But did you re-wratch your s23 video... every drop was a shatter.. front and back (and you said the s22 did even worse). That phone was so shattered that while it was on, it was practically unusable... 99% of us would want to get rid of that device or get the screen replaced.
    The damage to the s24 was a chip/crack in a small part of the corner of the screen.. very easy to live with for a while at least, and no damage to the back... yet, you had to knock the s24 as no better than previous devices. This is a huge improvement. Sure, maybe others do it better, and thats a fair point.. but to imply that the s24 isn't an improvement over the s23 is nonsense.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  8 місяців тому

      Yeah but your not taking into account that the screen being flat on the S24 Ultra should already be a big improvement against drops since curved glass is softer and more prone to getting cracked or damaged from falls. So if it's already suppose to be a big improvement by being flat, and on top of that they are using a newer gen of gorilla glass, it should not even crack at all what so ever from such a low drop. Head height maybe. That's why I don't see much of an improvement for the screen glass. But scratch resistance yes I do see improvement.

  • @TheMissingxtension

    Its common sense that a curved screen is less durable, so why give this one any props for being more durable than the previously flawed designed screen? Ill refer you to a built out of plastic Nokia Lumia 910 being used as a hammer. Those drop tests dont mean anything, at the end of the day there are too many variables for 4 drop tests to be meaningful in anyway. This is more of an anecdote. How about a less durable phone that can be fixed for a reasonable price? I would rather replace my digitizer 2, 4, or more times easily than have some phone that costs the same as used unit to replace the screen. Either way dust is going to scratch it, just make it to where its as easy.

      The S23 Ultra cracked and shattered first drop. So the fact this has flat design than curved, should have survived a short fall from waist height without any cracks, especially if they are using a newer gen glass protection which doubles on top of the fact its a flat design vs curved which is more susceptible to cracking. That's why I'm unimpressed. But the scratch resistance is a different story. Also if you watch the S24 drop test not the ultra, it survived both waist and head height drops on the same concrete. The S24 has a completely flat screen. Ultra has the slightest rounded edges which weaken the glass on the edges.
