Merry Christmas all! This review was originally gonna be over 2 months out, but since it's such an amazing set and my longest review yet, it felt like the perfect Christmas surprise! Thank you all for watching and commenting, I appreciate it so much! Stay safe, hopefully 2021 will be better ❤
Man... that poster is giving me major nostagalia hits. I had several of those sets from Castle, Space, and Pirate. And I had the poster hanging in my room. This was peak Lego for me!
This was my first big lego set I got maybe in 1994. I was so excited about it and I still get the same feeling while watching this video! And boy was I in awe of the glowing ghost...
Grabbed mine from a private seller in the Netherlands. Shipping put me upwards of $600 US total cost, and I don’t regret it. This set was my Holy Grail, and I often bring it out to the coffee table for admire. I use the back ramp to connect a bridge of sorts to the Sea Serpent, the two of them together look great.
Having purchased a massive box of lego from the local car boot sale last year, I found loads of parts for this set so decided to build it. Was missing some parts and the figures. But now have it 100% complete.
I love that you went through the catalogue as well, I used to study that thing for hours getting ideas for adventures. The scenes they portrayed were masterpieces of spurring the imagination.
I just rebuilt this last week and built the Wolfpack Tower a couple days ago. I was so proud when I bought this and it’s been really nice to revisit it a few times in the last few years. I am thinking of combining all my old sets for a big MOC.
As a kid of 9 years old I saw the King's Mountain Fortress for sale but I to save my money to buy it. Took me about a year but I had just enough and my grandparents took me to buy it. We get to the store where I had seen the set and it had been replaced with this Black Knights Castle. But the price went up and I no longer had enough!!! I was sad because I could not afford to buy it. I did not know it would be the best lego Castle set. I just thought it was cool. Well my grandparents saw the value of how cool this set was so they put in the rest of the money. I think I had$85 CAD and they put in the extra $20 or whatever it was back then. I was so happy. All the adults wanted to see my castle set. I built that thing, rebuilt it with the alternate build on the back as best I could. I played the heck out of it. I still have all the parts, probably nothing broken. Maybe I'll rebuild it with my nephews when they are 10 years old.
Oh man that value pack #1891 was the VERY FIRST non-Duplo LEGO System set I ever had! Blacktron ship, Pirate/monkey/treasure, Black knight/ghost tower, and race car.
I love these classic castle sets. It makes me wish lego would start making castles again, but they will never compare to the classic charm these sets have. Amazing review, ty for the christmas gift 🎁
Got this for christmas when i was 6. I am sure this is the erliest moment i can remember because i was happy af. Putes a smile on my face remembering that evening (in germany whe get or presents on the evening of 24th)
This brought a tear to my eye! I remember my older brother had this back in the 90's. I was mostly into the city sets. I think Lego should have a classic lego sets from the past for sale. I'd buy some of the old sets I used to have. I had the space shuttle set with the launch platform for a long time. I don't remember when I got rid of it. Not sure what the number is but I can point it out if I see it. My problem now with Legos is I enjoy putting them together but then what? I don't have room to display them so it kinda sucks. Nice video! Thank you for taking me back!
I never owned this as a kid, but an ex of mine got me this as a Christmas present one year (a wonderful gift, to be sure). I must say, this is probably the best Lego castle in existence imho (and I own or have built most of the others over the years). Combining useful and versatile pieces, colorful designs, an extremely fun build, and a gorgeous aesthetic, I often think of this as being in my top ten favorite sets of all time (though that's always very tough to judge). I'm building a replica (with a few edits) in Minecraft FtB Revelations 3.3.0 right now, and your video is very helpful for that. Thanks for the post!
Also the two guys with "chain mail" printing: that's actually scale armor. Chain mail is made of interlocking rings riveted shut and worn over a quilted cloth gambeson, whereas scale armor is made of overlapping metal plates riveted to a tough leather backing.
I got the 6286 Skull's Eye Schooner for christmas and let me tell you: Pictures do not do that fantastic ship justice. It looks so great (esspecially since the sails of my copy are in perfect condition). Such a gorgeous set! The 6086 Black Knight's Castle is fantastic as well and I can see why its at the top of most peoples castle lists. The yellow printed panels on the side are just amazing.
Black Falcon's Fortress had these yellow thatch wall pieces (German style, I think) as well (err...I think it was just one piece there). I can't recall any other sets that feature them - and yeah, they are pretty awesome!
@@DrIce926 Yes that set had them as well and that was it for this piece, unless you consider the re-release of the Black Falcon's Fortress seperatly. The piece was also available in red in the also fantastic guarded inn. All amazing sets.
This castle is, was, and ever shall be, my jam. One of the oldest sets I still have extant, it's just an amazing castle, through and through. And the White Knight is indeed the best minifigure of the bunch. (I've found that a knight in the Minifigures line - Series 9, #4 - makes a nice upgrade to him, although it uses a plume instead of a dragon crest.) Just earlier this year, I've rebuilt this thing, and have given it a fairly nice display place. With the possible return of the castle theme, I really hope to see the Black Knights, Dragon Masters, and Wolfpack return. More importantly, I'd LOVE to see these raised baseplates make a comeback!
The Alpha Centauri Outpost from Blacktron II is a bucket list LEGO set for me. As a kid in the early 90s, I remember going to Toys "R" Us and just staring up at the wall of LEGO sets. From the floor to the ceiling it took up an entire aisle. Back then, I was usually only getting smaller sets, but always was in awe looking at the really big ones and seeing that particular Blacktron set always brings back such a vivid memory. It looked so damn cool!
My favorite castle of all time!! This one took a while for me to build when I first got it, back in ‘92! Intricate and iconic design for that era of Castle!
For those who don't know, the knight with the Yellow dragon ornaments is a near direct match for the singular Black Knight kit you could get. That one had red dragon helmet ornamentation, and no barding, and only a red flag on a brown lance. He also came with a crossbow to supplement two swords, as well as an armament station of sorts. Aside from the barding, you could recreate the Golden Black Knight with some swapping with a Dragon Master Lieutenant in any of the middle-sized sets.
Still have this set fully assembled. It's my absolute favorite. I also thought for many many years that the black circle in the courtyard was a well but I realize now it is actually an oubliette since it leads down to the dungeon where the wolfpack prisoner is. Kinda dark for a kids toy but absolutely appropriate for a castle.
This castle is really, really great and gorgeous!! I just wish that the interior detail wasn't so lacking, but that was a near omnipresent ailment of virtually all old Lego sets across basically all Lego themes of that era. P.S. - Didn't the Black Knights have another big castle before this one that was built on regular green baseplates?
I just bought this castle for my son for X-mas. It looks absolutely fantastic and so mang minifigures. I got it, with only 3 small parts misssing for just over 110 dollars and that is including postage. Looking at these prices an absolute steal! 🤣
Loved the coverage of the poster and book. I must admit I paused it and went "got, got, got, wanted!" a lot. Never owned this set, but had the Mountain Fortress which used the same base plate. Would love to have the chance to own it, but with prices going up on these classic sets I don't see much opportunity outside of someone loaning me a set to review and build on my channel.
This was my dream castle growing up but when it was out we never had enough money, but as an adult I'm definitely going to finally get this and satisfy that disappointment from childhood lol
Born 1986, this was my first castle i get. Awesome, and i think, one of the greatest i played. One of the last with a correct number of soldiers (the later one got fewer and fewer), in fact, 4 horse-knights! Even the royal castle had only 3 knights with horses. Btw you answered an unsolved question during my childhood: how to deal with these tower-holes ;) great video
This set and the Royal knights castle set were the best Lego castle sets there were. Black Falcons fortress might be the third, merely based on the fact that it used light grey throughout.
Brian, Im really enjoying these videos. This set is my white whale. Ive wanted it since I was a kid, but its so hard to find for a decent price. I shall find it one day! Love the video! Keep them coming
I think that those holes are machicolations for the archers to shoot through, wouldn’t blame you for thinking it was just random gaps since it’s a bit sloppy in it’s look.
Already having the the knight with white feathers and a bunch of the helmets and chess plates. Also having five of the red scale mail with blue arms and 2 with black arms. But only 1 of each other (all red and blue with black arms And not having a lot of the old knights helmet I prefered the minifig selection of the black monarch castle. That btw has 8 scalemail torsos, 4 all red and 4 blue with black arms As 1 said I had only one of each I also think or feel that they are more rare and I prefere them, the blue the most next the all red And next the red with black arms (3 in the castle you review) And last tje red with blue arms (3 too are in the castle you review) The first castle also has 10 small bk shields 2 brown horses How and I love the 2 small square plates (16x16) of the long one (16x32). So I decided to find it (so the first one, black monarch castle) And I did ! For cheap ! (120 swiss francs so around 130 dollars or 100 pounds). 🥳🥳🥳🥳 🥳🥳🥳🥳 🥳🥳🥳🥳 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Old lego castle was so cool... It seems kind of a waste from Lego to give those first 2 knights a chest plate-print on their torso in addition to actual chest plate-pieces though? Also what is the name of the music that plays while you are building? :D
Bought it last year for about 220$. After 29 years since I first saw it on catalogue from 1992! My childhood dream came true ;) It's worth the prize. Now I drink my morning cup of coffee and look at it and think about times where I was just a kid watching catalogue and dreaming that maybe one day.... :))) If LEGO give us on 90th annivewrsay ANY castle from 80's or 90's (except dragon masters and fright knights witch are UGLY) i sware to buy 10 of them :))))
Both towers had that empty space. Still shouldn't be like that. So i agree with Brian, better use his advice and what he did with those empty spaces on both towers.
I had this set, which I then passed on to my little brother. I would like to introduce lego to my now 5 year old son, but all the modern set are just so incredibly boring.
Thanks a lot, Brian. The same to you.

So, how did this tweet age in your own opinion? :)

7:32 start building
10:02 start review minifigs
15:45 start review castle
Barding is horse armor; the decorative cloth covering is called a caparison.

Yep, 6085 Black Monarch's Castle. Not as good as any raised baseplate Castle imo
This brought back many memories. :)) I used to peruse over these mini catalogues, including this one, endlessly...
This was my first set I ever assembled as a kid
20:48 uuuh thank you :) this feels so much better!
Yes it is😊
I have remnants of this set in my old Lego box, which includes the black walls, black horse, and grey and black plates, grey small bricks and arches.
Merry Christmas! Great job on the video !😊
Great review! Never owned this set but certainly wanted it.
Cool review. Got this set, and gonna build it over the next few days! Castle Lego was awesome.
I just bought this castle for my son for X-mas. It looks absolutely fantastic and so mang minifigures. I got it, with only 3 small parts misssing for just over 110 dollars and that is including postage. Looking at these prices an absolute steal! 🤣
I remember really wanting this castle and staring at the box on the top shelf in the store.
"Thatched" refers to straw roofs, the word you're looking for for the yellow wall pieces is "half-timbering".
Loved the coverage of the poster and book. I must admit I paused it and went "got, got, got, wanted!" a lot.

This set is on my dream set list. I want it so bad, but can't bring myself to dish out the prices they are asking for it.
I have the Lagoon Lock-up! it was my first Lego!!
that was my biggest dream as a kid, need to buy it now
You're not going to believe it but I bought this set 2 days ago, what coincidence, this happend earlier too with the Forestman River Fortress haha
It must be owing to the Illuminati!! :-D
I would like to see the black knights back in the limelight with new castle sets
(Black Knights Empire 👑)
Loved mixing knights lego with space themed
I remember wanting this so badly but for $100 Canadian it was never going to happen

Brian, Im really enjoying these videos. This set is my white whale. Ive wanted it since I was a kid, but its so hard to find for a decent price. I shall find it one day! Love the video! Keep them coming
if im ever able to buy this Lego castle or something similar i would only use it as an outpost or forward operating base
My dream set Lego castle
I still have the Lego Black Knights Castle. However, I lost the wizard's beard, and the hill broke.
What is that song? It sounds so good!
I think that those holes are machicolations for the archers to shoot through, wouldn’t blame you for thinking it was just random gaps since it’s a bit sloppy in it’s look.
Possibly, although I don't think they would put those in the floor like that in a real castle
11:15 The Lego Heads of the Ice planet minifigs could have been a good alternative, instead of the generic smiley faces.
Already having the the knight with white feathers and a bunch of the helmets and chess plates.
Also having five of the red scale mail with blue arms and 2 with black arms.
But only 1 of each other (all red and blue with black arms

I wish lego made such sets now.
Old lego castle was so cool...

Not waste. It is cool that those 2 knights had that chest plates. Lego back then did not was a cheap by giving extra accesories.

I saw this set going in 20 seconds on vinted for 150€ ^^ did not have the time to do anything --" so beautiful and grail
I was lucky enough to own ONE of these sets. Won't say which one though...
Wolfpack needed serious love. There was only two or three sets.
Lol i did the exact same thing with the towers when i was young
Good catalog
❤❤❤❤❤❤
The open roof at the ghost tower is probably so the ghost can catch some light while being hidden.
Both towers had that empty space. Still shouldn't be like that. So i agree with Brian, better use his advice and what he did with those empty spaces on both towers.
I prefer Legos a million times more than Minecraft!
I had this set, which I then passed on to my little brother.
I would like to introduce lego to my now 5 year old son, but all the modern set are just so incredibly boring.
Can you give me the set in malaysia
Can you now give my son he like the set
Give the set now
