This set was so open and easy to play with Had both this and the castle, but this one got a lot more play time due to the easy access to everything and the really wide upper level.
OMG! I had this set when I was a kid! Nostalgia! I remember getting it for Christmas and absolutely loving it! I build it on Christmas day and played with it for years and years! I still have all of the pieces upstairs in my attic, more than 30 years later!
This is the very first review of this particular set I have ever watched. All those years (since 1993) I wondered what was inside the (to me) interesting structure and now I finally know that it has been a big fat juicy NOTHING!! :-) + :-(
Great and detailed review, thanks! I must agree with you, it's a vry substantial set for 214 pieces. Ladder on the side is probably just a play feature. Keep in mind, Wolfpack were after Dragon Master's treasure, so it might be a way in incorporated into a set :) Interior was sacrificed definitely, but easily enough can be improved by ourselves.
Brian, you inspired me to actually try to upload a video on my actual youtube channel. It's not on this one (since I mainly use this one just to watch content), but on my "Raul Velez Jr" channel. Don't have to watch it, but I wanted to let you know that you made me comfortable enough to try it at least.
I had this as a kid and kinda liked it... Now I rebuilt it so I can replace the missing bricks and give it to my son. I hated building it. The stairway always seemed off to me how it ends at the top, even when I was a kid. One of the top platform pieces just broke off because it's design is so weird. And off course it's the most expensive one on bricklink to get from this entire set 🙃. I guess I have to break out the super glue :P.
Another great review, Brian! I’ve clearly slept on this theme, it looks great! I laughed at the hedge in the video title haha. Who the heck knows what they are supposed to be called, right? Haha.
These sets show off the best and worst of this period of LEGO, with those exciting new (at the time) minifigs and themes with the cool helmets and shields and dragons everywhere - but also the heavy reliance on large pieces like the BURPS and LURPS, spiral staircases and massive grating pieces. Which makes them much bigger than their piece count should indicate, but with lots of wide open undetailed space and flat exposed baseplates. Not everything had this problem though, IMO 6048 (Majisto's Workshop) shows off the best this theme could be.
As a kid this was never a problem. This is an AFOL problem. I can indeed look back as an adult and be like. Yeah this is pretty barebone. But as a kid I loved this set. The cloth capes and flags were durable and lasted. The prints were kick ass, and just the colors in general striking. These knights stood out enough on the older factions I owned like Falcons and Lion knights but did not feel out of place. They were the perfect continuation. And I look back with great fondness, playing with this set.
Interesting that they released this in the same year as the castle that has the dragon cave in it, as they are so similar. I would have preferred the raised baseplate to come with this in a dedicated "dragon cave" type set and have a separate castle. The dragon masters have some interesting elements but I wish their livery and coats of arms and colors had been a little more cohesive.
i kinda really do want classic lego set of black knights castle n dark dragon's den n dark forest fortress n dragon wagon n forest men's hide out n forest men's camoflauge out post n royal knights castle n black tron 2 n m tron n space police

Lmao I said "more uncommon color" but this cracked me up!

maybe the ladder was put there when some knights' tried to lay siege to the dark dragon's den.

Love this set!
Excited for the 2022 castle?
yes!
No wait it was this set I had.
I like that dragon
@B1 battle droid the orient expedition one with the longer tail is better :)
I bought this in 1993 when I was a kid, good memories!
Yeah both are awesome! And even better is they're both still under $10!
@@hanzocloud yeah that might be the best Lego dragon ever

Probably kneeling to reload
Or peer down off the non-lego terrain rock at someone approaching off-screen
