In a older version of the story, the dragons addressed the scientist directly asking for aide and the O-5 said no. I think the author changed it to them being more neutral observers to make it more poignant.

I think the most tragic part about this SCP is that the foundation isn’t even at fault. They found the box already abandoned, the kids did abandon the world. Likely the kids just grew too old and moved on leaving their creation to rot. Fantasy was always doomed, we just happened to witness it.
So fun fact about this scp. There's an scp fan unity game with a puzzle involving this scp specifically that lets you restore the box and bring back the paper dragons. Gets me everytime. 🥺
Yeah just a shame they never finished the game, I forget the reason for it but they had to stop making it but annoyingly never let anyone else take over making it.

Whenever you see an SCP that's "Neutralized" the story ends two ways. In SCP Foundation, even against harsh punishments there were staff members that brought flowers to the box. Painful and sad messages touched their hearts.
the sad part about this is that, we don't know if a regualer child is needed or they the childerens that first came to that world. if its the latter, then we can't know how long the box has been there before the foundation found it and even if they could find a relatives to the childerens, we still don't know if they know how to make a new box

As someone who was part of the Original forum i know a bit more about this story and the author, and it gets even sadder, they were one of the people who was the friendliest and most creative of all of us, this was based on dreams they had and a story they made, it was their favorite make believe game growing up, and this story was their passion project for the forum (and later wiki). They were often quiet for a good bit at a time, but we didnt think much of it, knowing that they had told us that they got sick easily. Well, they went quiet for a long time. They added in the post-main-story update which gave us a little hope, and said kind words to everyone, saying they had missed talking to us, complimenting our new posts and ideas, and then, they were gone for the day. We later got a msg sent to each of us, telling us we had been their closest friends, that their disease had gotten far worse and the experimental treatment had failed, and that the msgs we were getting had been made beforehand to be sent by their family if they didnt make it. Several of us wanted to make an SCP friendly class (like 999) entry for them, but none of us had the heart nor energy to do so, and we also felt that they were still the character in their story, the child who once ruled and played alongside the dragons, the orcs, the ogres, and all the other beings that would now never return, but, who we chose to believe, they got to return to after they passed.
I thought this was another dragon scp when I saw the thumbnail, but I'm glad it's this one. Great scp to react to. As a side note: I love how the video she's reacting to practically starts with "this one is going to literally tear your heart out and you will cry."

Oh god. The dragons. The poem at the end, and the self-exploration is so well done and beautiful, and while I agree that each person's interpretation is different and important this is also part of why people don't like animation channels. Even the good ones skip details and add their own interpretation which changes the message and intent of the original SCP, it's nice to see the effort put in, it just hurts to see one which is sad but also shows that the Foundation *isn't* a heartless conglomeration all the time makes them look more heartless, beyond the fact you lose the ability to interpret it the way *you* want to without all the proper details.
that bit at the end with the book was an adition added years after the original article, which originally ended JUST with "Here were dragons" a hopeful addition to a powefully tragic short story
I personally recommend to watch Volgun's video for this SCP. You'll realize the extent to which that world and the dragons were shaped. It's so incredibly beautiful and heartbreaking in the same way. It also depicts all the effort the foundation put into trying to preserve it. It's a long story, but wonderful to just listen to on an afternoon and start dreaming again like children. (Honestly tearing up a little because of this.)
It's funny as a kid i never had Narnia-esque portal fantasies; all my imaginary worlds, i knew they were just a story on paper or behind my toys, a drama in which I was not a character. Maybe it's because i hated myself lol, but my stories were always focused on the challenges and troubles of others, overcome and laughed off in time. It was never "everything's wonderful and I am their kind"; it was always "Eric needs to break into this place and steal some document so that his fuckup roommate doesn't get fired again lol" And then someone else who's _also_ breaking in illegally walks in on him and after a straight 10 seconds thinking of excuses he just says "Yknow what, this is _exactly_ what it looks like."
You can tell this one was written by a D&D fan, specifically a DM who is an amazing storyteller. This one hurts all of us who play D&D and other ttrpg's and games like Skyrim etc, even fans of LOTR, we all grew up loving fantasy and these franchises allow us to relive our childhood and keep that imagination alive. Where The Dragons Went is a heartbreaking story about growing up and losing that sense of wonder and imagination. Its why its so important to keep it alive and to have that sense of escapism. It is beautifully written and is beloved by everyone who knows of it because as the narrator explains in this video, we can all relate to it deep down, its why its so sad, it touches that part of us that longs for that sense of wonder and adventure.
Tale foundary is an amazing channel. No, matter how many times I read or watch videos of this SCP, I will always cry by the end even if its the shorter version.
"I can be a grown ass women in my late 20s and still be an elf bitch on the internet" This is one of the few times in my life I have cried from pain and joy at the same moment.
As a DnD DM, this one hurts. I think of all the NPCs that the party shared stories with, and I realize how long it has been since i had thought of that world and the golden memories we made in it. Yea, it was a silly made up world, but we pretended they were real when we played, and there were real cheers and tears shed at that table leaning over numbers on paper.
I don't expect you to do a reaction to it, Alicia, especially considering the hour+ length of the video, but if you enjoyed this one then I think you'd _really_ enjoy the Volgun's video about the same SCP, complete with what's basically a full full reading of an entirely extra short story :D
The chatters who were saying "NO REACTION" and "not even sad lol" and other stupid shit really need to get their God damn priorities straight. Because it's not about whether it makes them cry or not, but whether it makes them remember what it was like to be a child and to be untethered in their own imagination. To create and play in a world of their own making that allo9wed them to just exist and be happy. It's not a dick measuring contest, ffs...
I think this story is mainly a lesson that explains no matter what story you read, unless you are the writer, you yourself have no say in what happens and all you can do is keep reading and prepare yourself for the outcome.
According to the extended files, the SCP foundation spend the ENTIRE time of the crisis scrambling to figure out who the family that started this was, so they could save the dragons and the land of Fantasy, but the box had been moved from storage place to storage place repeatedly. They even tried intervening themselves, but any time any of them went to open the box, it was just empty. The research team *did* believe - there's no doubt about that given that one of the reports cuts off and has to be finished by the research lead explaining that the researcher in question broke down crying from helplessness. Whomever made this box, and allowed this world to either come into being or be shaped by them left at some point, and never came back. Be it from growing older and leaving it behind, or perhaps via tragedy. The SCP Foundation *tried*, but it could not try enough things in the time it had. Apparently, the site director has the last dragon-paper kept on his desk, painstakingly re-folded into the shape it had been when it emerged from the box, hoping always that they'll find some reality warper or universe traveler that can help them with the box and won't be a threat to the Foundation or the world as a whole.
This one of the first that tips most people off that scp is more then just a collection of spooky creepypastas and there are actually many stories with a nice and emotional message. Another one that’s similar to this that I also really like is Scp-2420. There aren’t really any good videos on this one sadly but I’m sure you could find it and read it on your own. It’s also about loss but it’s more so about the loss of a pet.
Noticed them too. Felt the need to not just repeat it in the middle but again at the end in all caps. Hope he got the gold medal he was apparently reaching for
The two more heartbreaking tales are SCP 1230 and SCP 191 - a storybook that gives people wonderful dreams and a cyborg that was made from a pre-teen girl, respectively.
I 100% recommend checking out more Tale Foundry videos. They're really cool. Also, as per usual, I feel obligated to mention that SCP-4999 is really cool
Let’s get this to the like goal so that Alicia actually gets the full experience. Tale foundry is great but his video is better for after knowing the proper story
Whoever the original family was that played with and created the box and the room could be seen as a the other side of the anomalous coin that is the foundation. This family presumably took everything at face value, they looked upon the unknown with wonder, curiosity and amazement instead of fear and a need to understand and keep things as normal as possible The foundation could never have helped because they learn and interact with these fantastical objects and specimens in a scientific and logistical manner, seeking to protect themselves and the world first(which isn't inheritly a bad thing) instead of letting their imagination take the lead to think more into things It's like a presentation I've seen clips of every now and then where he tries to fit all these pieces into a box where all the pieces represent something including a little square that represents wonder. At first it seems there's no room for Wonder, as you grow and introduce new eliments and obligations into your life you have to push wonder around until leaving it out entirely, as there's no room left in your life for it. But he rearranges, moving things around, looking at it all from another angle and there's still just enough room to keep Wonder alive and to have it fit in your life. Wonder is what makes a lot of things feel bright in our lives, and unfortunately the foundation has no room for it within its cold, sterile halls and containment chambers.
I guess some channels put a lot of their own spin on telling these, which seemed to be what this whole video was. The version I saw was from The Exploring Series and it was tragic, with the extra layer of how the Foundation was helpless to do anything about what was happening. Would be cool to see Volgun's version, he seems to just draw directly from the material.
Oh, I love this channel! Even if you don't make any more reactions to their videos, I highly recommend at least for personal acquaintance, I really like their arguments about certain literary works or elements/tropes, and they even sometimes make me personally philosophically look at literature in general, and the world around me, too. I just noticed that you like to think about things yourself, so I think you'll enjoy watching it even just for yourself.
Oh, I remember reading this one. Yeah, this one hurts. SCP Foundation. The really good ones are either super terrifying or just really, really sad. Also, I knew what death was when I was 8 years old. It was knowing that the dog I had grown up with was never coming back from the vet. Heart worms. My parents had to put him down while my sister and I was in school. They didn't want us coming home to see him should he have died while we were gone.
I hope it was said before me, but I would love to see more reaction of Tale Foundry's video. It's so good, and always so beautifully and eloquently narrated. And I'm not even mentioning the visuals that are sooo cool to watch.
Oh hell yeah, Tale Foundry. I didn't expect to see him on this channel. It would be really cool if you checked out his videos on 17776, There is No Antimemetics Division, or Humanity's quiet extinction(the one about Martians, I forget the name)
My understanding for this SCP is that the kids grew up and lost their fantasies. And since the Foundation is place of science and logic, their "room" (I interpret this as world) decayed.
I would've recommended Volgun's video on this because it just hits you how much we lost when the Dragons were taken from us. This is because the creator of the article created a bestiary of 26 select creatures from this world, each corresponding to the Alphabet. And each one Volgun read hurt me, because it dawns on you: we didn't just lose the dragons, our friends; we lost this entire world because we lost our wonder, our imagination, our Fantasy. But Volgun's video had a happy ending, too, where the box reappeared and dragons few out by the hundreds in a joyous reverie.
If you want to restore a little bit of faith in the SCP Foundation, I recommend the entry Yet Another Murder Monster (The Volgun has a great video on it)
Alicia 2 minutes in: Please dont go to Fantasy, you evil fucking scientists Alicia 12 minutes in: WHY DID YOU GO TO FANTASY YOU EVIL FUCKING SCIENTISTS???
You make a good point about the modern era having some fantastical aspects to it because of our technology. Consider this: For the internet to be created, someone had to have the dream of everyone in the world being connected to each other at any given time. A couple hundred years ago, that'd be declared an impossible pipe dream. Look at us now.
And that is the message... do not allow it to pass. Carry some part of your youthful imaginings as long as you may.. and if they start to thin, to weaken or to fail... pass them on to another. Let the story continue, from one generation to the next... I am old, I will one day cease to be.. as will we all. But we can leave a legacy.. our friends, our families.. we can make sure the tales.. each of our lands of Fantasy.. continues..
A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys Painted wings and giant's rings make way for other toys One gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more And Puff, that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave So Puff, that mighty dragon, sadly slipped into his cave -from "Puff the Magic Dragon" by Peter, Paul, and Mary

I saw this uploaded and immediately knew tears were going to be shed
I love how Alicia went on a rant about serial killer children all of a sudden, lmao
I don't expect you to do a reaction to it, Alicia, especially considering the hour+ length of the video, but if you enjoyed this one then I think you'd _really_ enjoy the Volgun's video about the same SCP, complete with what's basically a full full reading of an entirely extra short story :D
I highly recommend Volgun's reading of this.
I do agree chat can be annoying in certain videos, emote only mode is my favorite for reactions
sadly people like that are exactly why this story exists: people like that are the reasons the dragons couldn't come back
Those words "Will you forget us?" was the final blow that made me start crying
the bear with the patchwork heart will kill you emotionally 😢
I don’t think it’s nearly as devastating as this one was. But I’m sure it’ll hit closer to home for Alicia. So I absolutely second this.
Its as if the the embodiment of child wonder slowly dying. God...this story.
I love that a chatter said lightwork no reaction they must be fun to be around
Noticed them too. Felt the need to not just repeat it in the middle but again at the end in all caps. Hope he got the gold medal he was apparently reaching for
Tale Foundry makes fantastic videos!
Take foundry is *incredible* in general, would love to see you reacting to more
Ooh tale foundry I was wondering when you found him his videos are always worth a watch 😊
The first ever video to make me cry godamn
The two more heartbreaking tales are SCP 1230 and SCP 191 - a storybook that gives people wonderful dreams and a cyborg that was made from a pre-teen girl, respectively.
Oh yeah, 1230 is excellent.
The original video link in the description is for the Volgun Tunnel Monster video
The one thing that can break even the SCP community. Man, it's been a while since I've seen their old intro.
This family presumably took everything at face value, they looked upon the unknown with wonder, curiosity and amazement instead of fear and a need to understand and keep things as normal as possible
The foundation could never have helped because they learn and interact with these fantastical objects and specimens in a scientific and logistical manner, seeking to protect themselves and the world first(which isn't inheritly a bad thing) instead of letting their imagination take the lead to think more into things
It's like a presentation I've seen clips of every now and then where he tries to fit all these pieces into a box where all the pieces represent something including a little square that represents wonder. Wonder is what makes a lot of things feel bright in our lives, and unfortunately the foundation has no room for it within its cold, sterile halls and containment chambers.
class D children would be CRAZY XD, some beyond scared straight type shi lmfao
"HERE BE DRAGONS"
“HERE WERE DRAGONS”
😔😣😖😫
Class D children is wild
I guess some channels put a lot of their own spin on telling these, which seemed to be what this whole video was. The version I saw was from The Exploring Series and it was tragic, with the extra layer of how the Foundation was helpless to do anything about what was happening. Would be cool to see Volgun's version, he seems to just draw directly from the material.
I've heard this story four or five times now... I still tear up every time. 😢
Aliciaxdeath: ''I talk alot!''
That's enough to make me realize that one bag of popcorn won't be enough.
Oh, Tales Foundry! I love this channel! Oh boy! We're all in for a good, uplifting video about story telling, I'm sure!
And I'm not even mentioning the visuals that are sooo cool to watch.
class d children is crazy
lmao, cutting foward and seeing her cry is so Alicia
Alicia, the video description is incorrect. You seem to have used the tunnel monster video description by mistake.
This is so sad all the dragons wanted was their friends back and the foundation couldn’t help them 😢 no matter how hard they tried some of them
Oh hell yeah, Tale Foundry. I didn't expect to see him on this channel. It would be really cool if you checked out his videos on 17776, There is No Antimemetics Division, or Humanity's quiet extinction(the one about Martians, I forget the name)
9:32 I get what your saying Alicia, but in fairness you did call SCP-096 a "little murder bean." Just pointing that out... 😅
It was said in the video that the foundation did try but without the original creator nothing worked.
But Volgun's video had a happy ending, too, where the box reappeared and dragons few out by the hundreds in a joyous reverie.
dreams don't end, they change form just like life does.
There is a sequel to this one where a couple anomalous foundation personnel try to fix this and save a child anomaly at the same time
I won't believe it if this SCP wasn't inspired by "Puff the magic dragon" (a song that is NOT about drugs)
If you want to restore a little bit of faith in the SCP Foundation, I recommend the entry Yet Another Murder Monster (The Volgun has a great video on it)
Oh yeah I've seen this and the SCP, it is VERY depressing...
There's an (unfortunately) non-canon story where one of the lead researchers uses a powerful reality warper to bring them back.
As a dragon lover this wounds me so much 😭😭😭😭
Alicia 2 minutes in: Please dont go to Fantasy, you evil fucking scientists
Alicia 12 minutes in: WHY DID YOU GO TO FANTASY YOU EVIL FUCKING SCIENTISTS???
I've been wanting another scp video for so long
Aye! I'm always here for Tale Foundry love. Such an underrated channel
Why do I cry every time I hear this story😭
ALLLIIIIICIIIIAAA WE HIT 3K LIKES!
You make a good point about the modern era having some fantastical aspects to it because of our technology. Consider this: For the internet to be created, someone had to have the dream of everyone in the world being connected to each other at any given time. A couple hundred years ago, that'd be declared an impossible pipe dream. Look at us now.
2:03 I am already tearing up just remembering the story
Ah yes
The dragons 😢😢😢
Oh....Oh no. This one... 😢
And that is the message... do not allow it to pass. Carry some part of your youthful imaginings as long as you may.. and if they start to thin, to weaken or to fail... pass them on to another. Let the story continue, from one generation to the next...
I am old, I will one day cease to be.. as will we all. But we can leave a legacy.. our friends, our families.. we can make sure the tales.. each of our lands of Fantasy.. continues..
There is a Fan-Made sequel to this called 'The Return of SCP-1762' by Mr Illustrated if you ever wanted to react to that
It's not nearly as sad but Tale Foundry's "Why Grown-ups need Fantasy Too" makes a softer companion to this.
A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant's rings make way for other toys
One gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff, that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane
Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave
So Puff, that mighty dragon, sadly slipped into his cave
-from "Puff the Magic Dragon" by Peter, Paul, and Mary
Is this “Where the Dragons Went”- OH NO… 🥺
This one’s TRAGIC… IT’S SO SAD! NO…!
