  • MY SURPRISING ANCESTRY DNA RESULTS - BLACK IRISH CONFIRMED?! I went ahead and tested my DNA through the ancestry dna kit and was pretty surprised at the results.
Also my name was listed correctly and confirmed what I thought prior to getting my "results".
Known as the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean, Montserrat is the only country outside Ireland where St. Patrick’s Day is a public holiday. Montserrat’s Irish heritage dates back to the 17th century when the island became a haven for Irish Catholics who had been persecuted on other Caribbean islands. The Irish were originally sent into exile - effectively as slaves by Cromwell. The island is still a British protectorate.
By 1678, a census showed that more than half the people on the island were Irish, so it is hardly surprising that the Irish had such a strong influence on the island’s developing culture.
The week-long St. Patrick’s Festival provides a rich mix of Irish and African heritage, with some traditional Caribbean entertainment, making this one of Montserrat’s most popular annual events.

The Irish being historical allies of the French, especially in their dislike of the English, invited the French to claim the island in 1666. Although no troops were sent by France to maintain control.[12] It was captured shortly afterwards by the English and English control of the island was confirmed under the Treaty of Breda the following year.[12] Despite the seizing by force of the island by the English, the island's legal status is that of a "colony acquired by settlement".[12]
A neo-feudal colony developed amongst the "redlegs".[14][better source needed] The colonists began to transport Sub-Saharan Africanslaves for labour, as was common to most Caribbean islands. The colonists built an economy based on the production of sugar, rum, arrowroot and sea island cotton, cultivated on large plantations manned by slave labour. By the late 18th century, numerous plantations had been developed on the island. Many Irish continued to be transported to the island, to work as indentured servants; some were exiled during the English Cromwellian conquest of Ireland.[15]

Secondly why you be disappointed for not be white? Are you looking for a relationship with your ancestors oppressors? Black people of today think their history started with slavery.

The Irish and Africans were both once slaves but became free people. Yes many intermarried in the past. Many people in Jamaica, Barbados, Monteserrat, Trinidad & Tobago have Irish and Scottish heritage in addition to African and even native American or South (Indian) or East Asian (Chinese). It's not surprising.

@@JayKill777 Actually Tacuma it's more complicated than that and to equate the two isn't as 'black and white' as some would suggest.
What's more, it musn't be seen as an issue that is an 'American' one.
That in itself does an injustice to both sets of people.
What happened to the Irish has for the most part nothing to do with what happened to the blacks in America.
      And that's a fact.
The Irish were indeed also used as slaves by the British long before, right up to and throughout the African slave trade, though there are those who argue against this, stating that its a myth in order to further demonise the British, or more ludicrously as an act of racism towards African Americans.
You'll usually find that these people are either Americans committing the usual American error of seeing everything through an American lense, or people who have nothing but disdain for the Irish in the first place or are people who are ignorant of Irish history.
In the main the conflation is a wrong one to make other than most of it occurred during the same time period.
I'll leave that judgement up to you.
I come from a purely Irish perspective.
The British have for a very long time been at the root of most of Ireland's problems. With regards to slavery, yes we were often used as slaves by them in much the same way as they and others used the African slaves.
To this day there is a festival in London each year to commemorate the shared history of Ireland and the Caribbean islands that were at one time or another colonised by the British.
For instance, in the 1600's, there were thousands of Irish women who were torn from their families and brought to the Caribbean to 'mate' with the black slaves there in order to keep the population up. Most people who descend from these islands in Britain have Irish ancestry and, as an amusing aside, is the reason why they have their own very unique colourful accent.
A mixture of thick Irish accents with the accents of many different African peoples gave birth to the accent we hear the likes of Bob Marley speak.
      Watch this on youtube:
      ua-cam.com/video/Jfip96k1cE0/v-deo.html
Or if u prefer, copy and paste this:
'The Black Irish of Montserrat Irish accents in the Caribbean'
Frederick Douglass, the famous African American abolitionist once travelled to Ireland in the 1840's, where he was shocked at the conditions the Irish lived under. He openly said that not even the African slave in America lived in such squalor. During this time he met one of our national heroes Daniel O'Connell and drew great inspiration from him.
At that time, the suffering of the Irish under British rule was such that the Choctaw tribe sent aid, recognising our plight as one shared by the tribes in America.
To this day, the turbulent history of the Irish in America and the Native tribes is recognised and often remembered.
As a child growing up in Belfast, Ireland, I met many native American kids who were a part of an exchange program between Irish and native American families.
The late great Floyd 'Red Crow' Westerman (Chief Ten Bears in the movie Dances with wolves) often talked about this shared history.
For centuries the British had been sending Irish slaves to the new world, and Australia on often trumped up charges or as extremely harsh sentences for relatively minor 'crimes' such as theft (usually food) or for speaking their own language (Irish) which in itself was deemed as treasonous to the English crown.
Check out the Irish Penal laws, a disgusting attempt at eradicating everything that was Irish, including their language, music, religion etc..
The history of the British in Ireland is one that still has repercussions to this day by way of the modern 'Irish troubles'.
If you're interested, you should look into all of this.
      Greetings from rainy Ireland.
      :-)

    • @wolfman8325

Depends where you look. The Barbary slave trade. And slaves to Vikings. Alleged slaves in South America. In USA they were indentured servants. But some of this is misleading as lots of Irish died before servitude was completed. But that's probably the most common thing we hear, people don't equate indentured servitude with slavery because chattel slaves existed in the USA, which were African. And they had a horrific time.
It has unfortunately been turned into a political point. People claim the Irish were never slaves, while others argue they were slaves in other parts of the world and indentured servitude was still a form of slavery. (Which it was, as conditions, and life expectancy, and treatment were all still appalling)
Also, shipment of the Irish to US predates indentured agreements so who knows what happend to that part of history that was lost. And documentation of Irish being culled and thrown off slave ships was covered up and incorrectly reattributed to slaves from the west indies. This was only "corrected" in the last few years when it became politically motivated. Hmmn....
The idea of white slaves doesn't gel with modern marxism and victim culture. So it seems like it's just been covered up and "revised" imo. How history can suddenly change is questionable.

By 1637 a census showed that 69% of the total population of Montserrat were Irish slaves, which records show was a cause of concern to the English planters.”
The Irish were slaves just as the Africans were not indentured servants.
The Irish were forcefully taken from their lands and sent to the Americas as Slaves. Indentured may have happened with a a small number but the majority were captured and transported by the English. These people were the lucky ones as many of their families were murdered in Ireland by the English.

No the indentured servants were treated just as bad as black slaves and seen as the same, only difference was the indentured servants were eventually freed after their time was up. What happened to the Irish was very similar to what they done to black people only technically the Irish weren't slaves. But by god they were certainly treated as such!

Not unless your last name is Hebrew. Then its real, which is the case with Irish and Scottish since the 7th century. Black Hebrew who went Albino. That is the Real reason they call Irish negro, because they are. So are all the white jews. More accurate to call them Ash Kenyans(Ashkenazi). These Black Albino jews right here: Simeone, Benyimin, Levi, and Judah. There is a reason this information is hidden. It can be discovered in geneology with supposed Scottish names that are actually Hebrew, like Stimson, Stimpson, Simpson, Simmons , Simon, Simone Shaul, Minshaul, etc. These names are over 3500+ years old and originated out of Israel. Then you have the bible which is one big Albino white wash of the black hebrew. Truth: White isn't a race at all, because they are all carriers of the OCA2 gene mutation. If you are white you are from asian(caucasian) or negro(caucazoid). Currently the highest concentration of the OCA2 in non white regions is in Africa and its exploding since the Government stepped in to protect them. The blue eye is a product of black albinism.

It does not mean a 'black person who has some Irish ancestry' or a 'black person who has Irish nationality'. "Black Irish" is not a term that refers to people with African genetic heritage. A quick history lesson I bet most don't know.
Did you know WHITES were slaves too?????
The Irish slave trade began when 30,000 Irish prisoners were sold as slaves to the New World. The King James I Proclamation of 1625 required Irish political prisoners be sent overseas and sold to English settlers in the West Indies. By the mid 1600s, the Irish were the main slaves sold to Antigua and Montserrat. At that time, 70% of the total population of Montserrat were Irish slaves.
Ireland quickly became the biggest source of human livestock for English merchants. The majority of the early slaves to the New World were actually white.
From 1641 to 1652, over 500,000 Irish were killed by the English and another 300,000 were sold as slaves. Ireland’s population fell from about 1,500,000 to 600,000 in one single decade. Families were ripped apart as the British did not allow Irish dads to take their wives and children with them across the Atlantic. This led to a helpless population of homeless women and children. Britain’s solution was to auction them off as well.
During the 1650s, over 100,000 Irish children between the ages of 10 and 14 were taken from their parents and sold as slaves in the West Indies, Virginia and New England. In this decade, 52,000 Irish (mostly women and children) were sold to Barbados and Virginia. Another 30,000 Irish men and women were also transported and sold to the highest bidder. In 1656, Cromwell ordered that 2000 Irish children be taken to Jamaica and sold as slaves to English settlers.
Many people today will avoid calling the Irish slaves what they truly were: Slaves. They’ll come up with terms like “Indentured Servants” to describe what occurred to the Irish. However, in most cases from the 17th and 18th centuries, Irish slaves were nothing more than human cattle.
As an example, the African slave trade was just beginning during this same period. It is well recorded that African slaves, not tainted with the stain of the hated Catholic theology and more expensive to purchase, were often treated far better than their Irish counterparts.
African slaves were very expensive during the late 1600s (50 Sterling). Irish slaves came cheap (no more than 5 Sterling). If a planter whipped or branded or beat an Irish slave to death, it was never a crime. A death was a monetary setback, but far cheaper than killing a more expensive African. The English masters quickly began breeding the Irish women for both their own personal pleasure and for greater profit. Children of slaves were themselves slaves, which increased the size of the master’s free workforce. Even if an Irish woman somehow obtained her freedom, her kids would remain slaves of her master. Thus, Irish moms, even with this new found emancipation, would seldom abandon their kids and would remain in servitude.
In time, the English thought of a better way to use these women (in many cases, girls as young as 12) to increase their market share: The settlers began to breed Irish women and girls with African men to produce slaves with a distinct complexion. These new “mulatto” slaves brought a higher price than Irish livestock and, likewise, enabled the settlers to save money rather than purchase new African slaves. This practice of interbreeding Irish females with African men went on for several decades and was so widespread that, in 1681, legislation was passed “forbidding the practice of mating Irish slave women to African slave men for the purpose of producing slaves for sale.” In short, it was stopped only because it interfered with the profits of a large slave transport company.
England continued to ship tens of thousands of Irish slaves for more than a century. Records state that, after the 1798 Irish Rebellion, thousands of Irish slaves were sold to both America and Australia. There were horrible abuses of both African and Irish captives. One British ship even dumped 1,302 slaves into the Atlantic Ocean so that the crew would have plenty of food to eat.
There is little question that the Irish experienced the horrors of slavery as much (if not more in the 17th Century) as the Africans did. There is, also, very little question that those brown, tanned faces you witness in your travels to the West Indies are very likely a combination of African and Irish ancestry. In 1839, Britain finally decided on its own to end its participation in Satan’s highway to hell and stopped transporting slaves. While their decision did not stop pirates from doing what they desired, the new law slowly concluded THIS chapter of nightmarish Irish misery.
But, if anyone, black or white, believes that slavery was only an African experience, then they’ve got it completely wrong.
Irish slavery is a subject worth remembering, not erasing from our memories.

It seems many of us from the diaspora don't know our real history. Our History is rich and deep. We are The Israelites coming up from the so called Middle east , then went into the Iberian Peninsula. And being exiled twice (Spanish Inquisition 1478) from Spain and Portugal 1492. Then we were taken into Africa to be brain washed into christianity and to be sold into shackle Slavery. Some of us escaped and went into Europe and settled there a while until slavery caught up with our Ancestors..Now, this activity took hundred of years, even thousands..Please do some research into books before the 1800 century. It's a little difficult, because our History is being HIDDEN but, it's out there. Most important, use the Bible also to reference/refer to. And stop listening to others telling you who and what you are..

Actually there are many Black Irish in Ireland and here in the states ho go unrecognized/claimed because of a longstanding taboo---many don't know the fathers and in some cases mothers because it's been buried on their birth certificates thanks to the cathloic church--------en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_people_in_Ireland

People who live in Ireland who have African heritage are not "Black Irish". Black Irish are white people who have black hair - its a term that's been used for a long time in Ireland. People of African heritage living in Ireland are 'black with Irish nationality'. Quit using the term the wrong way.

The reason a lot of blacks have Irish last names is because in the late 19th and early 20th centuries Africans didn’t want to keep their slave names, and since they didn’t know their native name, they took on Irish last names of the families they grew up with since they were growing up in the same struggle. That’s how it was in the States.

Omg indentured servitude is *not* slavery. Yes both suck, but the two are *very* different and it is a mistake to conflate the two...

Grey Hoover you're right there were indentured servants. However 10s of thousands were sold as slaves to the West Indies as well. Also the Irish language was even banned. Please do not speak on my history there ghostly one

The Black Irish are thousands of years old. The Black Irish are not Africans. The Black Irish originated From the Middle East . The Black Irish ☘️ do not celebrate . Saint Patrick’s Day the black Irish celebrate Saint Paddy’s day as do all Irishman . The Black Irish have Black hair Black eyes and darker skin.
Ireland is Gaelic for our Land .
The genealogy of Ireland is absolutely insane as a direct result of all of the explorers conquerors and slavers whom saw Ireland and the Irish as easy Pickins for human trafficking the Irish and Africans were the two largest demographics represented in the slave colonies . The Moors were the transatlantic slave trade in fact the moors occupied Spain for 800 years and that is the reason why the Slave colonies have Spanish languages and call themselves Latinos or Latin Americans .
Brazil was the largest of the slave colonies and today they use 144 different words to describe the colour of their skin . The Slave Colonies was the only place in the western hemisphere were slaves could be purchased after the transatlantic slave trade was abolished by the British whom colonized the United States and were forbidden to own slaves or use slavery during the British colonialism of North America . Slavery began in the USA 🇺🇸 after the British were driven out of the USA. In reality the slaves who were in the United States did not come from Africa The slave colonies did not speak African languages meaning African slaves were useless .
The Armistad was a Spanish ship captured by the Americans in American waters on its way to the slave colonies after The British had abolished slavery .
The reality of Black Americans who have a history during slavery in the deep South of the United States is that you are of mixed Blood and mostly Irish ☘️ the two largest demographicps in the slave colonies . If you are Back Irish ☘️ it has not one thing in common with African ancestry . I am Black Irish ☘️ my DNA is from Belfast Northern Ireland . As well I am considered to be British isles because of all the explorers conquerors and slavers over the centuries whom invaded every Shoreline they could access . At the Peak of slavery in the western hemisphere there were twice as many European mostly Irish slaves in Africa because of the moors. Slavery and racial discrimination against the Irish lasted right into the 1970s . The British committed genocide against the Irish murdering over 10 million while the Irish were forced into Farming Ireland for the British only not even the Irish could eat what they sowed .
They took the Irish in the very same slave ships that transported black Africans out of Africa and dumped them on an island in the South Pacific Ocean . If you think that the treatment of Black Americans is bad just wait until you learn of the enslavement and racial discrimination against the Irish .

I did geneology awhile back, this is why im here. This is the REAL story. Ashkenazi emmigrated to Ireland Scotland in droves. They are Black Albino Hebrew. The OCA2 gene mutation took most of the Black Hebrew tribes and washed these tribes but not completely. Benyimin, Simeone, Levi, and Judah. These were the tribes persecuted and pushed out of Israel in the 7th century. ALL white jews are African Negro Albino. Noah was the carrier of the mutation. The blue eye was a product of Black Albino. Albino were still randomly producing black offspring for generations until the OCA2 took over. When they say Ashkenazi, they technically should say 'Ash Kenyan.'

Exactly. It refers to white people and has nothing to do with people of African heritage or black people who live in Ireland. Black Irish = white people with black hair.
