In August 2019 I left Vancouver island. It was about 1am when I was on the highway, I wanted to stop and use the restrooms along the roadside.. but this black car pulled up with 2 men. I decided to wait, then they wouldn’t leave. Even after 15 minutes. They just stood on the side of their car smoking?
Anyway, I left. Guess what?? They caught up with me 5 minutes later. They followed me for an hour, but I didn’t pull over until I had to gas up, during the busy times!
That was terrifying. They weren’t just following me, they were keeping up. After I seen them come flying in behind me, I slowed down and they realized. Slowed down ahead of me, a couple vehicles were catching up. There was a break of them following, so I tried to stay with the vehicles and motioned that I was being followed… the vehicle stayed with me. It was a mom with a van , I cried when I realized she slowed to follow.
    Imagine someone walking…?
It still doesn’t feel real. They’d slow when I’d slow, speed up when I did. Surreal.

Not just Canadians. The fact that there needs to be safe & affordable Transit on that road is inevitable.
Every vulnerable person needs to understand they DON'T GO ANYWHERE W/ STRANGERS or creepy situations.
I taught both my boys this starting at age 3. YES, 3. My younger knew to inform me about a guy who he & his friend thought was n@ked, but bc of the window he was at, they could only see from his waist up. The guy gave several reasons as to why he'd call 2 10yos to him.
Then, 2 yrs later he told me another guy gave him the creeps. He drove Transit, so his uniform had badges, which younger kids could take to mean Police.
He'd hand out $1 Bills to the kids frequently & invited them in to watch movies & play videos, which my son already knew was a no way in hell!
He had a cellphone (w/ no internet access, he wasn't old enough for that, just text & calling) so I could keep a better eye on him & he could call me. One day I had a strange feeling so I called & asked him where he was. He was on his way to the corner store. W/ what money? The creepy guy gave him $5 for good grades...
NO. I told him to take it back, blame me, then come & talk to me. I assured him he wasn't in any trouble.
When he came to me I was informed the guy HAD THE GAUL TO INVITE MY SON IN TO PLAY VIDEOS!!
I went around & warned several parents about him. Manager said she couldn't evict, he didn't do anything wrong. I told her to move her daughter into the complex, then see if she'd feel the same way.
The sad thing is you've gotta teach children to protect themselves. & in today's world, if you can afford a watch or cellphone that allows you to know where your child is at all times, GPS, they're worth it. I had the tracking on my son from 12-18. 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

I agree & I think the RCMP should be forming a Nationwide "Vulnerable Persons" Task Force & it should include some civilians. RCMP & some City Police Force's have lost alot of the public's trust. I can instantly think of 5 cases that the victims lifestyles were a factor IMO in making them "easy prey".
I AM NOT PASSING ANY TYPE OF CRITICISM OR JUDGEMENT ON ANY VICTIMS OR THEIR FAMILIES"
Highway of Tears victims have been predominantly Indigenous peoples & due to remoteness of that area of BC it wasn't uncommon for people to hitchhike etc. Also due to the horrible way Indigenous peoples had been treated for centuries, they lived more vulnerable lifestyles.
Robert Picton preyed on vulnerable sex trade workers & these disappearances were originally blown off by VPD as part of a transient lifestyle.
Bruce McArthur preyed on gay men in the Toronto area. These victims' sexual orientation made the more vulnerable & IMO the police appeared to downplay their disappearances as being more transient as a part of their lifestyles.
Jeremy Skibnicki was just found guilty this morning for the murder of 4 Indigenous women in the Winnipeg area. Again IMO these young women's race & lifestyle choices appeared to initially play a factor in the investigations into their disappearances.
Clifford Olson preyed on kids/teens & some of these beautiful souls were more vulnerable due to their life at home.
A person's race or lifestyle choices SHOULD NEVER BE A FACTOR IN ANY LE INVESTIGATION. Neither should the fact that there could be multiple Police Force's involved in each case. That may have been an issue at one time but for decades now everything is computerized so IMO that's just a scapegoat excuse!
And if RCMP/LE were to ever form a taskforce for these type of cases, it needs to have civilians on the task force because some of the blunders that have been made have eroded the public's trust in RCMP & City/Municipal Police Force's. And I would gladly offer to be a part of this type of task force.
May ALL THE VICTIMS who are our Angels now continue to RIP& know you are not forgotten.❤💔

It's hard to put into words how pitifully small the amount of money a bus service would cost compared to the amount of money that gets sent to Ukraine or that corporations get in tax breaks. Some of the poorest countries in the world have high speed rail, literal bullet trains. The idea that BC can't afford buses is a joke. Hell, the money the police get to fail to investigate these cases could probably pay for it.

This generational trauma is just beginning to end- as the last residential school to ever exist closed in 1997. Meaning the last of the survivors, are mere 30 year olds. Today’s generation of Gen Z- are on a decline for drinking and drug use; so much so that it’s been recorded that Gen Z actually drinks 20% less than any other previous generation (this includes native Americans- I would know because I’m a 23 year old Native American and neither my brother, sister or myself drink and we are all Gen Z). Your comment is completely unnecessary and insensitive; as that’s not what this documentary was about whatsoever. This documentary is about the retched continue of young women going missing and murdered, both Indigenous and Caucasian.

@@Nathanwatchingstuff I agree with half of your statement, but I do believe that generational trauma does exist. My mother only went to residential school for 2 years, but became an alcoholic because of my grandma- who drank to wash away the memories of residential school. Whenever my grandma drinks, she tells stories of residential school- and whenever my mother drinks, she gets angry because of residential schools and how they treated my grandmother. My grandmother and my mother will both never recover. My mother has been in rehab 28 times counting, and lost all of her children (me, my brother, and my sister- due to the foster care system discovering her financial neglect and care for us due to her addictions). I’ve never truly gotten to know my mother sober, and if I had to put an estimate on how much time I’ve spent with her in my entire life, the total time spent would be 1 year, 3 months and roughly 13 days out of my 23 years of living. Although generational trauma doesn’t exist in me because I spent near to no time with my mother to experience it, I imagine in households who’s family members suffer greatly and never miss an opportunity to vent about their hardships; the trauma of an event being pounded into your head day after day, eventually becomes your own hardship in one way or another. Glad I avoided that, but if I lived with my mother, I likely would have become an alcoholic too given the circumstances.

Or maybe if your rich & don't want to go to rehab. some rich ppl want to do drugs...sorry ...has 0 to do with accountability that's just a stupid word for the online. If they want to get clean they can, some dont. Took a look in mirror an decided nah.
Or they just switch over to maintenance drugs. Where they can fill a monthly prescription of suboxone or methadone an stay on drugs an get away from the streets. Difference is they are rich an in a mansion safely tucked away an don't have to really risk anything.
Guess what ? These ppl appear normal an functional adults in society...even when ON the ,medication you would have 0 clue. They hide it very well for many many years decades even,
Not everyone is a poor aboriginal woman on the streets prostituting for hard drugs. Some are wealthy trust fund nepo babies in their parents mansion safe an able to use their meds daily quietly behind closed doors. Lol they act normal friendly enough if not alil withdrewen. But they aren't poor or homeless or in the street nodding out.
So sadly those that are from poor rural (or urban) enviroments are at higher ,much higher risk.
Hollywood is full of wealthy drug addicts living in castles lol it's easier to not look in the ,mirror when wealthy your not forced into the worse conditions an can hide it better for far longer

Why is it that young women feel the need to hitch a ride with truck drivers is a social mystery, a delicately curious phenomenon that I myself cannot fathom. Young women who feel that need to exercise their independence and go on a solo hike on their own across the country to me have maybe thrown caution to the wind with their naive "sense of trust"

When I see all the transfer payments paid to Quebec and Ontario I shake my head. These communities have improper transportation between communities. I see our east coast suffering unemployment with the devastated fisheries. I see northern communities with out proper plumbing or water, no proper roads into their community. Our northern territories suffer from a lack of funds. Quebec has billions of dollars in surplus and I think what is wrong with this picture. These communities don't have proper representation in our government. If all of Canada votes yes and Ontario and Quebec vote no, the rest of Canada looses. I come from a rich province Alberta and I believe we should pay transfer payments to help our country. I don't believe we should separate, we are stronger together, but I feel we are misdirected as to what our priorities should be. I am of white ethnicity and have been guilty of too much prejudice through my life, I am guilty even if it was secret about it sad to say. Disgusting that it’s always been about Ontario. When you ask Americans what they know about Canada- first thing they say is Toronto, and second is Ontario. Canada is far bigger than the USA, but with smaller communities and longer stretches of land between cities. None of the existing Prime Minister’s have ever done any justice for British Columbia, Alberta, Yukon or Northwest Territories.. The west is forgotten, and when talked about a divide from Quebec- I wish they’d offer that opportunity to the west so we could finally take the loving care needed for our hurting people both North and South.. Fuck the East, I want to move out of Canada completely because of the fucking East.

In the late 70’s I had to hitch hike out of Prince George no buses my friend just got a new job so I was on my own going back to Alberta.,and wow! First ride tells me about Clifford Olson being out there and my appearance is what he was looking for? Then this guy drops me off on a really isolated secondary road outside of mile 1 hundred and one house. Out of a forest trunk road comes a dark blue ford half ton with a camper. He gets out of he car in bare feet and no shirt just jeans. He was at Caucasian least 6,2” dark hair brown eyes glasses wire rim. He took me to a ghost town down the road. I just lost it so I guess he decided because I didn’t want to be there. To me it was the perfect place to be missing. Long story short I was a white teen 17 yrs old. When he stopped to get gas that I told him I had to go pee went into the bar told a man to help me he say from him. Two men approach him from bar told him that I was a relative. Still in danger I had to stay in West Bank withE if these strange men as he said his brother a trucker would take me to Calgary. Let me tell you this was not without incident. Yah I lived. Today I am almost sure the first man in blue truck was an American serial killer who’s dead now. Still I lost my friend that summer as she took was hitchhiking with her dog. Out of three of us only two made it back alive that summer. Today is is an aberration that it is purposely done so there is no bus service it’s happening in Alberta too! No buses.

Maddy's remains were found last year- i saw the posters and billboards pleading for her safe return, my cousin taken and murdered thankfully her remains found quickly although never to return her to family but to close unanswered questions. I have travelled from Prince George to Smithers and had locations pointed out to me where remains were found. It is a very surreal drive of many, many hours.

As a woman, i think these women have to be careful. Not hitchhike, especially alone. And not trust strangers of all genders. A couple of years ago i was stuck in Prince George for a month waiting for repairs on my mo/ho. As i waited in several parking lots i was approached by 3 Indig. women at 3 different times asking me for a ride to Prince Rupert and Vanderhoof. The one to Vandhf even wanted to pay me to take her there. I was going south anyhow. It's that easy to get into the wrong vehicle. Just saying 😮

My sister was a true crime buff & used to follow alot of the True Crime creator's on here. But she found out that Once Upon A Crime Time creator Tommy Jude was planning on doing an ongoing series , using the title "Highway of Tears" & just the first episode would be about a BC/Canada case & then all the fillowing episodes would be only cases throughout the USA, with each episode being about a case from each state.
She got quite upset & has some harsh words with Tommy Jude for using a title that has become almost sacred to the families & friends & Canadians in general in the ingoing hortor of MMIWG, because she felt he was using it as "click bait" & that just further victimized the victims. It upset her emough that she refused to watch any true crime shows anymore. I hope to find her some good Canadian ones to follow .

I spent my youth in northern BC from the 70’s to the early 2000s. I lived there when a few of these young ladies tragically went missing. Having driven that stretch of highway from Vancouver to Prince Rupert BC many times, you do not want to be a female alone and have a break down on the side of the road. Especially in the corridor from Prince George heading north. The highway is so desolate and there are long stretches of nothingness, trees mountains, thousands of miles back roads and logging roads. In my view it’s ripe for opportunity for anyone who’d bring harm to someone. Hitch hiking would be utter stupidity. I feel there’s more than one killer and they are looking for opportunities of circumstance. With no busses or transport to get from A to B, many people feel their only option is to hitch hike. The FN reserves are far from towns leaving these women and young girls vulnerable. All l can say is DON’T hitch hike nor take a ride from anyone you are not completely familiar with in your daily life. Just because the person might be jo blow from down the street but you really don’t know him to talk to him, DON’T get in the vehicle. NO body knows who these people are and that’s terrifying. There are a lot of strange people living up there running away from civilization or troubles of the past. Don’t get me wrong, It’s beautiful country and there are wonderful people living there. You just can’t judge a book by its cover, the person might look safe or it won’t happen to you, till it does. DON’T take chances and don’t rely on others to protect you, protect yourself!

What will become of First Nation communities then! There is no infrastructure for such an outrageous plan! Not to mention the enormous amount of problems associated with EV's (ie road damage from extreme weight, wasted water to put out ev fires, cost, lack of electrical power to charge ev's, etc...)

In Prince George 1981 there were three women murdered. One dumped along the highway and another in a wooded lot behind Harwin Elementary. I lived next to those woods, and across from the school a relative lived. They had moved their family to get away from someone who was terrorizing the lower mainland. Clifford Olsen.

Stop blaming your bad actions and life choices on your upbringing. There have been plenty of people throughout time who have had rough upbringings and still became average citizens. Intergenerational trauma is an excuse to do dumb things. Take responsibility for yourself people.

    • @Itzsfo0
      @Itzsfo0 Місяць тому

What are you blabbing about ? No1 cares. People will do as they want. Besides what "stupid " things do you speak of. Im sure your just a young ignorant troll. People make bad decisions ...and .. ? So ? What does that have to do with rape, murder, serial killers, and a lack of proper law enforcement, esp w judges who are themselves raping children and or ignoring these communities OR a lack of proper investigation.
I dont care what someone does in their life good or bad whether hitchiking or drug use or whatever...the blame STILL is on the murderer, the sick depraved killer...you know people will do "dumb" things. Addiction is addiction taking responsibility or not has nothing to do with a young woman (aboriginal or a white/caucasian) being kidnapped raped tortured or worse as often is the case. Blaming their decisions for their own death is literally victim blaming.
Especially when you consider some of the victim were just normal women whom jad a broken down car an needed help...where is the "dumb decision making" in that ? That was just bad timing, bad luck...which we have little control over.
Its always best to try an keep yourself save but sometimes OFTENTIMES its not enough. Even if you got rid of prostitution and hitchhiking youd still have rape, kidnappings, law enforcement abusing their powers, corrupt judges, oh and those horrid residential schools...just another way to destroy the indigenous women and children being treated like 2nd class citizens. And even middle class white women fr good homes are (clearly) not immune. Even when you do all the right things an take precautions sometimes its not enough.
Enough with the victim blaming. Its 1 thing to say make better choices...which doesnt matter bc ppl will do as they please but its another to outright victim blame...theres 100s of victims over decades and only a % of these children an young women could be considered "at risk".
Nothings going to change there will always be addictions, hitchiking, prostitution, but even if we eliminate all those societal ills...well still have unjust law enforcement, truckers w bad intentions, serial killers & rapists & sexual deviants, broken to NO public transportation system, racial, sexist & bigoted worldviews of those whom are in power an also extreme poverty doesnt help those already in dire situation.
News alert people make mistakes an regardless predators will be out en force looking to take advantage like vampires. Rich or poor healthy or unhealthy addicted or sober, hitchiking or in a car that breaks down or something either way...i place the blame on the predators, killers, and lackluster racist lazy old fashion law enforcement.
