I followed your steps to build a natural aquarium, and now my tank is 234 days old. In those days, I lost a couple of fish and bought new ones. Each step brought new challenges for me, but I learnt a lot. Now it's winter here in my region, and the tank temperature is 22C. Though I bought a heater and set it to 26C, the current challenge is maintaining the tank's temperature. Your advices and instructions helped me to minimize my budget and made me believe in trusting nature. Once again, thank you very much. 🎉
I liked the overgrown jungle look. It created mystery by not being able to see everything exposed. I think it's great for providing more mini-areas for the fish to explore and display interesting behaviors. You could even add more specimen fish besides the schooling ones. The tank with Bonnie and Clyde is a great size for a blackwater setup.
IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!! being an aquascaper is really an challenging and fun hobby, especially if you are an Dirted Tank Fan, I got a 10 gallon tank too and 2 years no waterchange, as My experience, my first tank is densely planted with stem plants, it's so beautiful for the first 2 months, since they are fast growing plants, they sucked a lot of nutrients in the substrate. I did try planting cryptocoryne, there are lots of crypts that are low-tech. for me they are the best in low-tech tanks cause, they don't really sucked a lot of nutrients in the substrate, However they are slow growers, but if they grow in your tank, they are really beautiful and dense, try also putting chunks of charcoal in the substrate, beneficial bacteria really love that and it will make the water more crystal clear. Big fan of your work, I got a lot of collection of aquatic plants here in PH, 1 could give you a lot of plants if we are neighbors hehe.Thank you for this video Really learn a lot
i think a blackwater scape would be interesting, but i would like to see what the tank would look like if you let it grow out longer. your tank is mazing.
Great video!🙏🏼😃Love the jungle look…I wonder how long it takes until the soil gets depleted from nutrients and has to be renewed? Or does it get fertilized enough by fish poo and dying plants so doesn’t need to be exchanged? Would the occasional water change be detrimental to a Walstadt tank?
One of my nerites was once on its back and i saw it trying to reach surface to flip itself and be unsuccessfull. ( happened when my water parameters got out of control and that nerite was kind of sick). I had checked it 2 hours later and it had given up and back in to its shell. I then planned to flip it over next day because i thought staying still would help him to get some energy back when it lost during its sickness. The next i saw it managed to flip itself back and on the move all by itself.. I dont know if the water flow moved its opening to closer to surface or something but yeah thats an experience of mine
Yeah, this is largely how I built all of my tanks (minus the betta tank, because he's a digger) but I added a clay layer to the bottom for contrast as we have a bright orange-red, iron-rich clay & over time it does blend in with the wood layers throughout the rest of the tanks. The rest is stuff scavenged from the yard or neighbor's pond. ETA: I also love nano fish in larger tanks since you can get more varieties. I've got guppies, rummynose rasboras & tetras, CPDs, a couple Siamese algae eaters, longfin aeneus & Venezuelan cories, nerites, mystery snails & the usual "pest" bladder & ramshorn snails as well as orange, bloody Mary & black rose shrimp in my tanks.
Omg! Using the tiny hair ties for the moss is such a good idea. The idea and execution of this tank is perfection.

Maybe add a salmon in a giant tank
Good video nice tank. Were you toping off the aquarium with fresh water or did you have the tank sealed up so it didn't evaporate?
@@wantsome-zs5sq Thank you very much! The tank is open at the top, and I top off the evaporated water with tap water.
But i can see a internal filter ,, i think thats ok , cause i consider water movement is really important
No bro
He mentioned
That small filter is empty inside..!!
It's for water movement..!!
