Just on the cliché topic. I visited Saigon recently and I struggled to make the kind of photographic work I normally would. I really wanted to avoid photographing the usual tropes that are associated with particular countries. I actually put my camera away for a couple of days and thought about where I was, what I was seeing and experiencing. I came back with a small set of work I love but more importantly, conveyed how I felt being there. The joys of shooting for yourself... in 39 degree heat.

Excellent presentation. I was there last year and visited some of the places you went to. (My best friend is Viet so that really helped in traveling about.) I tried to stay away from the more tourist spots. Viet Nam is wonderful as you said. I hope to go back this summer. Your suggestions were outstanding interms of gear and how to try to capture a location in a thought, simple way. Great content!!! Thank you!

Awwww thankyou Gary! Great to have your feedback and great to hear you've enjoyed Vietnam so much. I suspect you got a little more of the real culture than I did this trip too :)

Another great film Ewen, thanks. During my 40-year journalistic career I was lucky to visit lots of places on this kind of trip - Russia, South Africa, Israel, America, Spain, Germany, France and more besides - so I know exactly what you mean about the organisers wanting to cram in as much as possible. I'm like you, I like to get off the tourist track and really get to know a place intimately. I have to disagree with you about the '10 things' type of articles though, as I think they're useful for people on a very limited timescale who just want a flavour of a place. All the best mate.

I wish we'd been lucky enough to cross paths during some of our travels and gigs, would be great to get to know you offline as well as through Mastodon and UA-cam :)

HN was one of my favorite places I visited in VN. I would place it at the top of my list except for Da Nang and Hao Long Bay. All of VN is amazing. I hope to return this year to spend more time in the south.
