Her Grandmother made the outfit she wore on AGT. She was 9 two weeks before she recorded, I put a Spell on You. Queen was so impressed they have it put it up on their website. Listen to Angelina's version of "Born to Die". I had never heard the song before and I loved it. When I listened to the original singer's version of the same song, I actually knew I liked Angelina's version more. I guarantee. You will be pleasantly shocked. Angelina is absolutely special and her talents are without a doubt, God-given. Imagine a 7-year old who is not only able to sing well, but she's brilliant enough to create her own style in addition to that. It is almost impossible to imagine that. "I put a spell on you" was written by the American singer/songwriter Screamin' Jay Hawkins in 1956. It became his most popular a song, and he first sang it the year he wrote it with a very theatrical performance, in that he was carried on to the stage in a coffin, rising from it to begin singing when the music started. Even at the tender of 9 Angelina needs no such gimmicks in the tribute to him. She just rearranged both the lyrics and melody until she was satisfied that it was as she wanted it to sound and you've just listened to the result. Several things worthy of noting in the video: at the beginning she is writing some notes, which she hands to the pianist, who smiles. These are her i"wishes" (instructions) to the ban how she wishes them to play the music. She has chosen and arranged every song she has performed. Her fans call it "Angelina-fying" a song. Back to the video. You will then catch a brief glimpse of Angelina's maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani, a very well known and respected Iranian artist and poet, and the person instrumental in encouraging Angelina's singing and introducing her to the old classics, especially jazz. I'm so sorry you have not listened to Angelina before. I'm a subscriber to your channel, and I was obviously impressed by some previous reaction to subscribe. It doesn't matter, now that you have listened to her I hope you will continue to follow her. She is a genuine prodigy, and her covers are often better than the originals. Amongst her 130+ songs on UA-cam are 4 songs she has written (starting at age 11). There are also two songs written for her. She is able not only to sing beautifully in many genres, but she can emote with every note that will reach into the depths of your soul. Enjoy the ride. Dear Sabina, Angelina started studying music at 18 months. When she was 6 she was with her grandmother visiting another country & came upon a homeless girl trying to make some money in the street who had no shoes, The girl complimented Angelina's shoes, which were her favorite pair. Angelina took her shoes off & gave them to the girl & vowed to always perform barefoot until every child in the world has shoes. She also recorded her first song, I Who Have Nothing at 6. She actually recorded I Put A Spell On You in 2015 just after she turned 9 on January 10th but it wasn't released until 2016. As far as her outfit that you mentioned, It is her grandmother artist's art transferred to fabric then Angelina used it to make the outfit like she makes all of her own clothes. She also does her own musical arrangements.(That is what she was doing with the pen before the first song). The Million Miles song you mentioned is her first song since signing with Republic Records. It is a tribute to her grandfather that passed away recently. The music school in Norway taught her everything they could so now she is attending school in Los Angeles. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a beautiful world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music. Update: On Aug 26, 2020 Angelina's Manager/Uncle announced in an interview that they have decided on Republic Records as the best fit for Angelina and she is now signed with them as their "highest priority new artist". On Nov 6 she has released her first single under Republic... "Million Miles"! She has done so much already, but at 14 she is just getting started!!!
I don´t like that term at all, but Angelina Jordan IS a Superstar. A musical prodigy, a talent i haven´t seen and heard in decades. As soon as the music starts and she begins to sing, instant Goosebumps. Yes, she is THAT good. Btw, there is a beautiful reason why she always performs barefoot.
She was 7 when she first auditioned for NGT and 8 when she won. Then 9 when she paid homage to the originator of I Put a Spell on You - Screaming Jay Hawkins. That's his likeness on the candle at the beginning. There are some youtube videos of his outre' performances in the 1950s-60s or so. She has performed this song since but not in this manner, providently for her voice. When the front row of the AGT audience is shown several times, that is her family, grandmother, ...I think it's her mother next, then her younger sister, then her uncle/manager. Jazz was her grandmother's early influence on her; Angelina made her AGT Bohemian Rhapsody outfit of fabric printed with some of her grandmother's art work (more of her artwork featured in Angelina's book about why she sings barefoot and in her first video release of Million Miles). It is easy to say that she is amazing even though I am a die-hard Dimash fan as they are so very different than each other in their vocals but also they are alike in their kindness, their ability to remain humble despite stardom and how they both are well-rounded musicians. Her Grandmother made the outfit she wore on AGT. She was 9 two weeks before she recorded, I put a Spell on You. Queen was so impressed they have it put it up on their website. I cry openly every time I hear her NGT show Proformances. And yes many, many people say she relaxes them when she sings and they could listen to her endlessly.

Listen to Angelina's version of "Born to Die". I had never heard the song before and I loved it. When I listened to the original singer's version of the same song, I actually knew I liked Angelina's version more. I guarantee. You will be pleasantly shocked. Angelina is absolutely special and her talents are without a doubt, God-given. Imagine a 7-year old who is not only able to sing well, but she's brilliant enough to create her own style in addition to that. It is almost impossible to imagine that. "I put a spell on you" was written by the American singer/songwriter Screamin' Jay Hawkins in 1956. It became his most popular a song, and he first sang it the year he wrote it with a very theatrical performance, in that he was carried on to the stage in a coffin, rising from it to begin singing when the music started. Even at the tender of 9 Angelina needs no such gimmicks in the tribute to him. She just rearranged both the lyrics and melody until she was satisfied that it was as she wanted it to sound and you've just listened to the result. Several things worthy of noting in the video: at the beginning she is writing some notes, which she hands to the pianist, who smiles. Lastly - and for me the most noteworthy - is the way the 9-year-old child who has just performed an iconic song in a way that will never be bettered - changes from "performance mode" of a 49-year-old black woman who has been singing jazz for over 35 years, to the shy and humble child she is, with her hand on her chin, possibly wondering whether her next performance of the song could be bettered.
My introduction to Angelina was on her first appearance at Norway's Got Talent and I didn't expect much from a 7-year-old. Just a cute little girl, all nervous, rushing the song in parts, hesitating and then stumbling over or forgetting her words and generally acting her age and doing her best to get through a childish song like "Twinkle, twinkle little star". What did I see? Well, it was a seven-year-old child, with wild hair and gaps in her mouth, where there once were baby teeth. And that was when the normal perception ended and things turned upside down. She confidently answered the questions put to her by a Judge. Declared she was going to sing a song by the legendary Billie Holiday. Gestured off-stage for the technician to start the music and then started singing. The body of the 7-year-old was still there but the voice wasn't. Or was it? I was surprised then and that surprise is still with me, some six years later.
I have followed her career since I saw that first video on UA-cam and in the six years she has been singing publicly she has mastered many musical genres, including Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz, Pop, R&B and Soul, EDM and Rock and covered songs first performed by many famous singers, like Adele, Whitney Houston, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Lana del Ray, Avicii, Bill Withers, Gloria Gaynor, Andy Williams, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong and many others. What is more extraordinary is that she takes ownership of every song she sings while still paying respect to the original. You will notice that she never goes into unnecessary theatrics. Never sings those high or low notes unless they are absolutely necessary. Never projects herself in any performance which says "look how good I am". She just sings the song as she feels it is meant to be sung. And I'll add an even more extraordinary item for you to consider, to show how unique she is. She has the innate ability not only to sing a song as emotionally as the song deserves but to be able to communicate those same emotions to the listener.
As I have noted above, I have been following her career a long time and have listened to every interview she has given and every documentary about her and every performance she has ever given. What stands out for me is how a very shy and humble girl in her normal life, can be transformed into the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing, once she starts to sing.
Although the gift of singing and all her performances appear to be effortless, Angelina works very hard to ensure that the one she is going to record reflects what she sees as the correct way to meld both lyrics and melody. As we would have said when I was young. "There is no 'side' to her" She is completely transparent to the world.
Perhaps you would like to go back a few years and work forward. By doing so, you will come to the realisation that she is "unique" and I don't use that word loosely. There is truly no other singer who has her versatility and sheer ability to communicate the emotions of a song to her listeners. I doubt there is another singer who works so hard to ensure that, when she sings the song, it is sung in such a way that her listener becomes enmeshed in the emotions

I'm so sorry you have not listened to Angelina before. I'm a subscriber to your channel, and I was obviously impressed by some previous reaction to subscribe. Dear Sabina, Angelina started studying music at 18 months. When she was 6 she was with her grandmother visiting another country & came upon a homeless girl trying to make some money in the street who had no shoes, The girl complimented Angelina's shoes, which were her favorite pair. Angelina took her shoes off & gave them to the girl & vowed to always perform barefoot until every child in the world has shoes. She also recorded her first song, I Who Have Nothing at 6. She actually recorded I Put A Spell On You in 2015 just after she turned 9 on January 10th but it wasn't released until 2016. As far as her outfit that you mentioned, It is her grandmother artist's art transferred to fabric then Angelina used it to make the outfit like she makes all of her own clothes. She also does her own musical arrangements.(That is what she was doing with the pen before the first song). The Million Miles song you mentioned is her first song since signing with Republic Records. It is a tribute to her grandfather that passed away recently. The music school in Norway taught her everything they could so now she is attending school in Los Angeles. - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 14
- She began singing at the age of one and a half
- At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos.
- *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help.
Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person.
- She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old.
- In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes"
- When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need.
- The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. After she won NGT, they did not want her to be thrust into stardom before she had a chance to grow up as a normal child, and get her education. They allowed her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Over the years since NGT, they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney.
- Angelina has covered more than 130 songs and over 65 artists in the last 6 years. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else)
- Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent.
- Angelina has written four of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield", "Oslo", and "Million Miles" (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube)
In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a beautiful world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.
Update: On Aug 26, 2020 Angelina's Manager/Uncle announced in an interview that they have decided on Republic Records as the best fit for Angelina and she is now signed with them as their "highest priority new artist". On Nov 6 she has released her first single under Republic... "Million Miles"! She has done so much already, but at 14 she is just getting started!!!

That's his likeness on the candle at the beginning. There are some youtube videos of his outre' performances in the 1950s-60s or so. She has performed this song since but not in this manner, providently for her voice.
When the front row of the AGT audience is shown several times, that is her family, grandmother, ...I think it's her mother next, then her younger sister, then her uncle/manager. Jazz was her grandmother's early influence on her; Angelina made her AGT Bohemian Rhapsody outfit of fabric printed with some of her grandmother's art work (more of her artwork featured in Angelina's book about why she sings barefoot and in her first video release of Million Miles).

It is easy to say that she is amazing even though I am a die-hard Dimash fan as they are so very different than each other in their vocals but also they are alike in their kindness, their ability to remain humble despite stardom and how they both are well-rounded musicians. In the first son "I put a spell on you", she was changing up the arrangement in the beginning of the video and she hands it to the producer who smiles and nods his head... and that at 9 years old!

A small but beautiful gem is her cover of "A million years ago" (not to be confused with her own "A Million Miles"). I see Rusty Shackleford has already given you the CV for Angelina so I will not repeat it.
One thing I would put to you, however, is the dual fascination of people concerning her youth and her talent. As you noted, the combination is quite amazing. I do wonder, however, how popular she will prove to her peers in 10 years or so--when the novelty of her being a "child prodigy" has faded. I am far too old to be in that group and so I can only hope that she will be well appreciated for the enormous talent she is for the rest of her career.

She was barefoot in both performances to call attention to the plight of children in need (gave her shoes to a street girl in Iran when she was 6 after a conversation probably in Farsi). She has said she wants to humble and work hard. Try her covers of Adele, Rihanna, Lana del Rey, Sam Smith, and so many others. Each one a pleasure and a masterpiece.

She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of studio professional musicians or an 50 piece military band. With her immense vocal toolkit, arranging ability (yeah, that too, since about 8yo or so) and the work ethic to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come.
