- Watch as I test the BEST white paint for kitchen cabinets and see which one comes out on top. I tested four paint products:
1) Benjamin Moore Advance Interior Satin Paint
2) Sherwin-Williams ProClassic Interior Waterbased Acrylic-Alkyd Enamel
3) Behr Alkyd Semi-Gloss Enamel Paint
4) Valspar Cabinet Enamel Semi-Gloss Latex Interior Paint
I tested these four paints for durability and color. I used the ready made white paint colors in all four and compared the white tones for each.
Which one would you choose?

Thanks for sharing 🍃🍂
Sherwin Williams for cabinet is the emerald urethane. Also some of them take full 30 days for curing.
Is is so appreciated when someone take their time to make our life a little bit easier, thanks so much for explaining this process so well and clear,I needed a video like this one,now am ready to go buy my BM paint. Thanks so much!!
You are welcome and I hope it works well for you!
Went with a crème/oatmeal colored “ Advanced” and it’s been incredible, raves from the friends/easy clean up and worth the price. Gotta sand/clean/treat the wood/prime properly/allow proper curing time. Take your time..
I have painted 100s of sets of cabinets using from oils to the newer hybrids. Advance is great and the Valspar is as well. Valspar levels great. I don't use a brush nor spray. A 4 inch roller with a lint free white dove nap works perfectly. I have never had one complaint about durability nor appearance. And go with a Satin sheen.
Thanks for your input!
Benjamin Moore Advance is one of the best, I would argue the best, self leveling paints I’ve found before you start getting into the professional grade, hard to find paints that require expensive paint sprayers.
If you read the label, you’re supposed to wait 16 hours before re-coating. It’s because there are additives that slow the dry time which it what allows it to self level. Paints that dry too fast never have a chance to level. It’s also recommended to wait at least a week to allow it to fully cure before sliding stuff across it. This more so comes into play for shelving. Cabinets doors and side panels don’t have that problem.
The key is to get the paint on, and resist the urge to keep brushing or rolling it. The more you mess with it, the more brush strokes or roll marks that have to level.
I’ve heard Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethans is great also. Based on some comparisons I’ve seen, it doesn’t level as well so this does better sprayed.
Thanks for this video! Just bought a house and we love the white cabinet look. Gonna get the Benjamin moore!
It's a good paint!
Valspar is made in Sherwin-Williams factories.
It seems that the cure time for these paints was not considered.
I just spent the last month sanding and priming my cabinet. I'll probably be done this weekend with priming. I was leaning toward sherwin williams paint but after watching this video i'm going with Benjamin Moore. I like that it went on as smooth as it did. The durability and stain factors sealed the deal - thank you for posting this video it was very helpful. After the hours of work i just put in to prepping the last thing i need is to mess it up with a poor quality paint.
I Just finished painting a tv stand with it yesterday and it did not disappoint. Thanks for watching.
@@orangenite where did you end up finding it? I’m on the hunt also.
Did you use BM? Did you read the can? Solid 30 day plus cure time. Also the recoat time is like 12 or so hours iirc.

Had my kitchen cabinets painted in white with BM Advance, three years later couldn’t be happier color is still very white and a very hard surface. We just redid our bathroom so wife wanted to change vanity color, painted that with BM Advance came out fantastic and holding up fantastic! We just changed front door was not willing to pay @ $1000 for manufacturer to paint and they had limited options so wife picked a dark blue color from Sherwin Williams so went that route (and Advance has a 16 hr recoat time). Big mistake should have used Advance, I was wiping dirt off deadbolt and my finger ever so slightly left a scratch, washed an area with a paper towel and water that left a smug mark where I wiped so had to touch up both. This was about 4 days after painted so don’t know if it didn’t fully cure yet but did not have this experience with Advance. Both Advance and SW were sprayed, SW right out of can no thinning with a new Home Right HVLP Advance was thinned < 10% because I used my conventional HVLP (type that you use to spray cars) I will say though that the SW emerald urethane trim paint did spray nice and leveled out really nice as did touch ups but this is a going to be a problem moving forward for an exterior door. Will have to try this Valspar in the future.
Valspar oil spays amazingly when thinned 20%.
Good to know.
The sw and bm look grey to me,,
I realize you were going to for equal comparison. SW urethane trim enamel much better paint. I’ve sprayed cabinets with both SW UTE and the Behr. Both looked incredible but Behr had terrible durability. Just a note for viewers. Renner Italia far surpasses all of these.
Yeah I used Behr and it's literally peeling off and dirty.
Most of these paints have a long cure time. I would think one should wait the total cure time before doing a scratch test.
Exactly.
cure time?
30 days min
Lol. You didn’t use Sherwin Williams cabinet paint. SMH
FYI Advance yellowish within the first month
Oh no, really?
ive just read this on another video too, apparently cabinet coat is a good choice for whites not yellowing
The color is really irrelevant.
A primer would have stopped that.
Huh my 3 years old Chantilly White Advance is as white as when we first installed?
Inslx Cabinet Coat.
You're welcome.
SW All Surface Enamel? Lol. Thats not remotely close to even a trim paint. Its DTM
stopped watching you CANNOT compare Satin vs Semi Gloss SMH
Benjamin Moore requires 16 hours between coats
Valspar is 8 hours between coats.
