Stevie Wonder was able to draw a comparison of the love between two people to universal love more beautifully than maybe anyone else - even after all The Beatles’ huffing and puffing about it. (Said as an affectionate lifelong Beatles fan.) All his comparisons to the way our planet works and how the seasons are dependable, and how his love is as dependable. Of course, this song was written before seasons started changing, but still 🤨
'As" has to be one of THEE Greatest Love Songs written in the 20th century. Lyrically, it's right up there with the best standards by Gershwin, Porter, Berlin, Arlen (& dem). Song-wise: It is soul-filled poetry. So beautiful & so timeless. I was HOPING you guys had heard it before now! Coolness. To go through life without ever hearing/feeling this song would be a small tragedy.
Whew this song makes me cry every time, it expresses the epitome of life and that's why I dedicated it to my mom last year on her passing 💔 ALWAYS. Stevie just brilliant 👏, overcoming a hurdle in life to be this magical he is beyond one of the greats 👍. Rest easy Mom 12-21-21
THE GOAT STEVIE WONDER. WHAT MORE CAN THE MAN ,HIS MUSIC SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. ONE OF MY FAVORITES BY STEVIE. SING ON STEVIE NEVER LEAVE US. 😘🎶🎶👏👏❤❤ LOVE YOU ALWAYS.
When Stevie breaks out his Louie Armstrong voice the lyrics form a counterpoint as if it's the voice of God saying be real no screwing around with something as sacred as love . I'll have to listen to the Louie Armstrong voice a number of times to grasp what's being said .
Jazz legend, Grammy winner, Oscar winner, Grammy Album of the year, & Best Video of the year winner, Herbie Hancock on Fender Rhodes electric piano on this one. From this album: I Wish; Another Star; Knocks Me Off My Feet; Sir Duke; Summer Soft; Pastime Paradise.
Songs in the Key of Life is an absolute juggernaut of an album, in my personal top 10 along with Innervisions, and 'As' is one of the greatest all-encompassing expressions of love ever waxed. 'Wonder'ful suggestion from 1976.
In the first half of the 70s Stevie Wonder dominated the Grammy for album of the year, with a string of breathtaking albums, crowning it all in 1975 with the this magnificent double album, Songs In The Key Of Life. I agree you should do the whole album reaction - it’s genius, and it’s life affirming.
When Paul Simon won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1976 for 'Still Crazy After All These Years' in his acceptance speech he thanked Stevie Wonder for not releasing an album that year. Stevie Wonder had won the previous two years for 'Innervisions' and then 'Fullfillingness' First Finale'. 'Songs in the Key of Life' won the following year (1977).
"Songs in the Key..." is great but it's the 5th in a series of *brilliant* albums that he recorded in the early 70s and those albums are all just as good if not better than Key of Life: Music of my Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions & Fulfillingness' First Finale.....Innervisions might actually be his best
Hard not to love Stevie. Thanks for reminding many of us old timers of the great music we had/have. I know I have mentioned this before but most people in my age group have either sold or given away or put into storage much of this music. In some ways it is like hearing it for the first time again.
The "Louie Armostrong" part ("you're in it but not of it") has a clear reference to the Gospel of John, 17:14 as to confirm the deep spirituality of Stevie
On one level it's a love song, but on another it's a LOVE song, meaning about the concept of Love metaphysically as expressed by Love (or God) itself. Sort of similar to Jackson 5's "I am Love." The lyrics he growls out in the middle clue you into that this is about way more than romantic love for a person. It's about the universe's love for us all that will not cease. At least, that is, until you are me and I am you.

I saw this LEGEND sometime bacon the 1980s in Oakland, CA.
on As its Herbie Hancock on the keyboard solo and lines throughout
Awesome! Thanks Nathan!
You feel the music within the first few seconds. I feel like taking a drive to nowhere for hours.

So prolific!
All of these by the time he was 26. Incredible genius
The George Michael & Mary J. Blige cover of this is also fantastic.
Wow, never heard it, how cool! Thanks for sharing SPT1!
Yes...keyboard solo was Herbie Hancock...another great profession of love
Oooh nice! Check out our latest Herbie Hancock reaction below and thanks for watching Tigerblade2022!

This song deserves some sort of trophy. Maybe that lights up.
More Stevie please. Do the entire "Innervisions" album.
His best work...which is saying something
That's funk/jazz fusion at its best!
You can't go wrong with a little Stevie Wonder.
Exactly!
Or even a lot!

Hard not to love Stevie. Thanks for reminding many of us old timers of the great music we had/have.

Stevie is beyond a genius 🌟❤🌟

Yes, Stevie's music is very insightful. As a professor of literature, I concur.
"Thinking man's soul" is a very good take on Stevie's music.
This embodies the thought of love it does not make since.
The "Louie Armostrong" part ("you're in it but not of it") has a clear reference to the Gospel of John, 17:14 as to confirm the deep spirituality of Stevie
Stevie is Deep! Thanks for watching!
Just letting you know the background and solo electric piano solo was Herbie Hancock
When I heard the cymbals I thought this must be one where he plays all the instruments.
That would be legendary!
To get this best you should Lito the entire vinyl side together If it’s Magic, I Am Singing, Always and As

Yes Stevie was so smart in the way he planned his songs..
A well written song. Love it.
In spite of all the great songs he's written "As" remains my favorite
This was fun! 😍 Stevie! 🍿🐰
CLASSIC!!!!!!!
You know it! Thanks for watching Theresa!
Also let's mention Herbie Hancock is on organ and my St. Louis homegirl Angela Winbush sang background on this incredible song!!!
How cool!
I believe him!! Spot on reaction too, cheers Sifa and Dan, still playing patchwork catch-up here.
Thanks for watching, and for being you, Damon!
Until the earth just for the sun denies itself.
Awesome!!
I played this song at my husband's funeral. 💔

Songs in the key of life is brilliant but I think Innervisions might be a little bit better...cant go wrong with either
Innervisions is an absolute masterpiece: raw, relentless, intense, spiritual

Actually, the FenderRhodes on this track is Herbie Hancock.

Stevie played Rhodes on the track as well.
