Hands down one of the best documentaries I've seen about tribal fights back home. You could really feel the tension as a viewer. Great filming and editing.
As a highlander , this is one of the best documentaries about life in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, not all regions in the country are the same. Tribal warfare is an ancient tradition but now with illegal firearms, payback killings and land disputes this clearly shows why it's hard to stop such things from happening. But understanding why , is more important.
@dan fan no. strange u take it that way. That comment is served as reminder of simple fact that often missed or not captured in the video, to avoid misunderstanding, exaggeration, wrongfully framed or stereotyped, esp this video was made from outsider pov...
While a great documentary it is also important to be cognizant of the fact that this phenomenon is limited to the highlands region of PNG and is not representative of PNG as a whole.
Hol' Up Niqqa - We kumuls who live there. We are the source. Madang, Lae, Wewak, Port Moresby, etc... Are no different than any other city you will find anywhere else. No different than any other country in Oceania.
Hol' Up Niqqa the cogency of my comment stems from the fact that I'm a Papua New Guinean that grew up in PNG. The tribal conflict is prevalent in the Highlands region and not in other parts of PNG.
Yes this documentary great.. Yet it does not tell the whole story or represent us as a whole.. PNG is more than what is presented in this documentary.. There are more than 300 tribes in our country and 830 languages spoken by our people.. This documentary is merely a friction of what Papua New Guinea is about or has to offer
Well done. It captures the feel of the PNG highlands well. One thing that annoys-- why dub in a bird song from South America (Screaming Piha). It is like every filmmaker that shows a jungle scene thinks this bird has to be present. It is not. It is as out of place as showing the Eiffel Tower in Bermuda.
Reminds me of North East India during the 90's to 2000's one tribe is fighting with another tribe and Every tribe is fighting with the Govt of India. People were displaced, many were killed. If not by the enemy tribe, its by the Indian Security forces. Thankfully all that is over now. Its been relatively peaceful for twenty years now.
No doubt these territorial disputes are being exacerbated by tensions at the border with Indonesia, and recent mining expansions. It's a volatile mix. The tagline at the end of the production characterises this as an intrinsic problem, and while the traditional headhunter image of PNG remains potent, there are globalised factors at work here.
Exacerbated by indonesia? XD This tribal conflict nothing to do with indonesian, kompiam is far far away from indonesian border, tribe war is normal thing in melanesian culture. Most indonesia melanesian didn't adopt this culture anymore.
Enga province has a lot of intellectuals in Papua New Guinea holding high government positions and owning a number of businesses . If these intellects can invest in awareness and education back to their home province we can see an improvement and decrease decrease in tribal fights
But why decrease the fighting ?Do you want these people to lose their musculinity and turn into peaceful ducks ? Look what peace and advanced civilization has done to western men who are anything but men these days
This makes me weep for the strong people of Enga. Many of the people in this documentary were speaking tokplace rather than the common language Tok Pisin. If the two different tribes do not share the same language, which is common in the Highlands, perhaps the use of Tok Pisin between members of the two sides could help to create more empathy and dialogue between the different tribes.
