Hi Nanny from Canada! My 50 year old daughter introduced you to me and I love watching your videos! Speaking of nostalgic memories, I remember outfits ladies wore to mass when I was a young girl. I can still picture a checked lavender coat one lady wore with a lavender scarf. And the gloves to match! Can vision her now in my mind! Those were the days!

I remember being around 6 when my mother used to paint her nails deep red and the moon was left exposed. It fascinated me. She used to curl my already wavy hair with strips of cotton before bed. In my teens, she showed me how to apply makdeup so that I would not have an "orange line around my jaw" - LOL. Skin treatment was also egg white applied to our face for a facial with our heads under a towel and over a bowl of hot, hot water. So many little memories - like keeping a cologne stick in the freezer so that we could apply it to our forehead , wrists and neck when it was hot in the summertime. We used to spritz all the ironing with cologne and water so everything smelled like sunshine.

Nanny you are such a wonderful cook. I remember being a little girl and admiring my aunt Juanita , she was so beautiful still is she’s in her late 70s now, she wore light pink polish and lipstick that was pink. She always left her polish on grandma‘s kitchen table and I would ask her if I could wear some of her polish and of course she would say yes, she was so beautiful. She would take me to the corner store in her 57 Chevrolet. God bless you and the family.🙏🦩

Hi nanny, that heat sounds so intense in calif. Your pasta looked so yummy. Who knew to use cream of mushroom soup. The raunchy top looks exceptionally tasty. I can remember my first bottle of evening in Paris perfume. Loved the bottle. My mom used ponds face cream, and she didn’t really wear makeup, just red lipstick. Women really didn’t do their face up much back then.

Dinner looked yummy! Will give it a try.
You brought back sooo many memories! Would love a “ nostalgia” video!
    My mom was a
glamour-puss. Always and forever had fire engine red nails, filed to a point with the moon showing. I loved the smell of her Madam duBarry powder and Shalimar perfume when she kissed me good night after a night on the town. ( She thought I was asleep). She had naturally thick, gorgeous black hair which fascinated me because I was a toe- head blonde! Always wore bright red lipstick ( to match her nails).
I had a picture of her on my dresser in college- wearing a floor length, long white sheath with an emerald green chiffon bodice that draped like a scarf over one shoulder to the floor. Diamond and emerald earrings and necklace to match ( fake, but exquisite). In her hand was a black, telescoping cigarette holder… photo from 1955. My room mate saw the photo and exclaimed “ Boy! I’ll bet your father really loves your mother”! Lol!
I couldn’t wait to grow up and be able to “get fancy” and dress up like her! Unfortunately, by the time I was old enough people started to dress more casually…. I missed it!❤
    Sorry for rambling…

Nelly, a young girl from the neighborhood whose job it was to repair the elegant silk stockings that the ladies brought her, fascinated me by her appearance of elegant and neat young girl and even more by herdo magic, to repair with a thread as fine as a hair and a small machine, the holes of the stockings that were like new! I was a little girl and this is the first memory I have of someone taking care of her appearance and taking care too of silk stokings of ladies! Thank you Nanny, for sharing with us these beautiful memories concerning the beauty treatments of different generations together!

My oh my, yes I did admire a young neighbor of mine when I was all of probably six or so. Suzanne would walk past our house each morning on the way to work, and I would sit in a little window to see what kind of shoes she was wearing that day! I always gravitated to women who wore makeup and high heels! I grew up and always did the same! I wore 3 inch heels daily as a teacher for example. Tks for sharing, Nanny.

    Hi Nanny
My dear Mum always wore nail varnish and , like you say, never painted beyond the "moons". she also used to push back the "quicks" I think she called them!
I only paint my toenails as I am a gardener and nail polish does not last even a day - even with gloves.
I remember my mum " ragging" my hair to make ringlets; funny ' but today I decided to try it again on my own hair !!! Lovely idea and fun for your grandaughters - although I think at least some of them have beautiful natural wavy hair! Love and blessings xxx

Yes, you had to leave them unvarnished (and that wasnt easy).

You are such a joy, Nanny! I used to admire our Head Girl at school. She was so beautiful. I think it was her hair. It was a dark chestnut brown, and when she stood at the reader for assembly (she'd read the day's Bible verse), the light above her head would create soft golden halos that slid down her long, thick, dark hair. She was so beautiful and perfect. She'd read the Bible verse and was so confident. I was really not a confident child! I saw her on Facebook 40 years or more later, and she still had beautiful, thick, down-brown hair! But she wears it short now :) You're awesome.

OMG, I lived in W Orange, NJ and the same thing happened to us. We had to move because they were putting in 280. My mom was heartbroken, she so loved that house. And when I was little we had a neighbor who had a niece live with her for a while and I was enthralled with her. She was a beautiful girl also in her 20's. I use to watch her put her makeup on sometimes and she was very nice to me. Boy, our lives are so similar in a lot of ways.

Nanny, the pasta dish looked delicious. As you were cooking though, I wanted to yell…You need your water bottle to hydrate while you are cooking. Actually in that kind of heat, you need to have your water bottle with you. We are heading into 7 days of 95+ heat and over 105 heat index. Like you, I am so over the heat. I never wish time to pass quickly, but I am more than ready to need a jacket! Like you, I feel that the heat just zaps the energy from you. I’m not really a fan of either extreme, but it is easier to layer up and stay warm. So stay as cool as you guys can, have a fabulous week and thanks for taking one for us😅😊❤

Hello again dear Nanny! Yum, that pasta looked delicious! Made me hungry! I've never had a manicure, but once in a while would apply a light pink, a natural or clear nail polish to strengthen my very soft nails. Many ladies back in my mother's day waned to look like popular movie stars with red lips, tweezed brows and a 40's hair do. My mother wore very little make up but did use red lip stick. I got into big trouble one day when I painted my brother's nails and cut his hair! He survived and turned out ok! He did look like an egg head for a little while! Can't wait to hear about all the old make-up stories and memories. I have a few good ones too! See you soon!

Hi Mary Ellen, As I mentioned before, I had almost 50 years nail tech experience but I never polished nails exposing the linula (moonj) but I do remember lots of women when I was growing up who did just that. I had a teacher Miss Campbell (she was also a relative) who had the most beautiful nails and always had them painted brught red with the linula exposed! It was really in fashion in the 40's although even though I was born in 1948 (76 years old) they were still doing that when I was young. Your pasta dish looks really good. I will have to try it but right now I am trying to get off carbs so it will have to wait! Thank you for your videos and sharing your life with all of us! God Bless

I look forward to your "visit" via UA-cam. What a delectable dish you made. As simple as it was, it was still an energy-drain to our senior bodies! Thinking about my childhood observances, my Mom was a professional (even in the 1940's & 1950's). She always painted her nails on Saturday evening (getting ready for Church on Sunday). I recall that when she was applying the polish, she always cleared off the end of each nail showing the unpolished part. She said it kept them from "chipping" and would last longer. I also recall when the first cream rinse for hair came out. I think it was White Rain. What a blessing as I was very tender-headed and now it would not be a disaster every time my hair was washed. Keep on visiting with us! My love to Moosie.

I've seen pics of my mother-in-law from the 1940's where she had red polish with the crescent moons exposed. I thought it was so strange looking but then I learned it was a trend back then. It certainly was NOT so strange when you see how people get their nails done now!! Anything goes today! My older sisters used pincurls on their whole head. I was 10 yrs younger and in the 60's I used GIANT rollers in my shoulder length hair. One extreme to the other in a decade! :) ~~M~~

I was in beauty school luckily at 15 while I was in high school. My mom was so naturally beautiful she never wore makeup. I was exposed to manicures during beauty school in the early 70’s so of the ladies that customers got manicures while they were under the hairdryer. I remember one wanting red nail polish and nothing on her moons? She explained that the moon was to be exposed. I personally had never worn nail polish. 3 years later I had graduated from hair school and soon moved 3 hours away to Nashville where I opened my own salon right before my 19 th birthday. I hired a couple of manicurist. I never heard that request for clear moons again! Thanks for the memory.💕

Great video Nanny I’ll try to make the pasta dish. I remember my granny using Nivea all the time but she added to it lemon juice my Nanny believed in the power of lemon juice nowadays it is vitamin C . She also used to slice cucumber & put it under her eyes & brush her lashes with olive oil. I learned from a very young age probably 5 years old to follow her footsteps & take care of my skin & by the way I still add to some of my cream jars few drops of lemon juice 😃

Hi Nanny! I was raised in California so know how Hot it gets. Maybe a fan oscillating by your kitchen would help? It gets hot where we are too and besides air conditioning we do have fans going especially in our kitchen while cooking. Always good to watch what you share! God bless!🥰

Moons, yes I remember mother showing me the moons on the nail. Mother owned a women’s boutique clothing store my whole childhood and teen years. She was a fashion plate. I remember one customer named Ginny. Oh my was she a hot dresser, a dark Italian beauty. She was a beauty, & as a youth she fascinated me. Mother and I learned so much from her, and the finer ways of life. Mother was a very practical and frugal shopper, but both of us were mesmerized by Ginny. As I grew into a teen beauty in high school, mother used me as a live model in her picture widows in her boutique, which was at a stoplight in our city. Oh My, I would stand still, then as car stopped I would move my tennis racket, or put my foot over my bike. Of course people at the stoplight, almost “blank” out seeing a model move, parked and came in the shop. Mother was a clever businesswoman 😀. Eventually she moved to LakeElsinore, Ca. where she sold cosmetics at the largest mall in California called Robinson. she left Ohio when I was an adult. I remember mother always loved Ponds cold cream, even in her retirement. Was fun to reminisce with you. My mother was very eccentric. She also loved rock painting like you, in her retirement. She sent many to prominent people.

Yes, I remember nail moons being left unpolished! But I haven't seen anyone do that since I was a child.

You never cease to amaze me!!! You have such determination which is absolutely contagious!!! I think your little cottage is very cute, very warm and inviting; however, as energetic and talented as you are, it is a crying shame that you don’t have a little bit bigger area-especially a bigger kitchen and bathroom and also central air conditioning!!! With your interest in fashion, the way you excel at putting outfits together, with all your beautiful jewelry and your newly discovered love of makeup, it is also a shame that you don’t have a larger dressing area with a large walk-in closet to keep your beautiful clothes and accessories all organized-this way you wouldn’t always be so worried about purging and reorganizing your collection!!! That pasta dish looks delicious. In my mind, I can almost taste it!!! I eat pasta carbs very sparingly and only if it is a dish that I absolutely cannot live without. These days, I prefer bread over pasta because sandwiches are so easy in the horrific heat we are having in Georgia, but I do try to limit carbs as much as I possibly can because for me, they are so addictive and dangerous for my health!!! You are such an inspiration to so many and no matter what you do, I enjoy watching your wonderful videos!!! Take care my friend and be happy!!!

Looking forward to your nostalgia beauty video. My Mom left fingernail moons unpolished to let the nail bed breathe. Perhaps that was a myth. Nevertheless, I don't paint or cover my nails.

Hey Nanny - that pasta dish looked so good, I could almost smell it! I think I will follow your lead and make that recipe tonight. I’m sure Jamie had some accidents with his noodles too, you’re not the only one. LOL. I was worried about you getting overheated in that kitchen…maybe you need a small fan to help move the air in there? Nanny, you can take a slice of a tomato, lay it on the dirt, cover it with dirt, and water it. It will grow into a tomato plant. You can’t beat tomato sandwiches, yum! I remember my Mom used Lancôme skincare and makeup. When I was really young, we would go into Philadelphia to shop at John Wanamaker’s, have lunch, and listen to the organ. It was really a neat experience. That’s where Mom got her skincare in those days. Did you ever go into Philly, Nanny? Mom had short brown, frosted hair, that she did herself. She would roll her hair in those rollers made of plastic netting over a metal coil…everybody had them…and sit under a dryer or with a dryer bonnet on until her hair was dry. Her makeup was minimal. When she was young, she loved bright red lipstick…she was so pretty. I have always had long brown highlighted hair, and when I was a teenager, I would roll my hair in those extra jumbo plastic rollers and sleep on them, can you believe it?? They were the size of a green bean can, oh my gosh, I could never do that now. I finally got smart and I’ve been using large electric rollers ever since they came out. Nanny, remember the Sun-In hair lightener spray? Did you ever use that? Did you ever rinse your hair with beer? My first moisturizer was the original Nivea lotion in the blue glass bottle, we also used that as tanning lotion when we were lifeguards. Then I used Curel when it came out, Serious Skin Care, and now I use Peter Thomas Roth’s retinol, it’s a nice line. My make up choices are all over the place - I do love makeup! I really enjoy your stories, I just looked down at my nails and I only have four moons, is that bad? I never remember seeing nails painted, leaving the moon natural…I’d like to see a picture of that. I hope people don’t get offended by my long winded comments on here, it seems people are so offended by everything these days… I just feel like I’m writing to a friend, even though I’ve never met you, and I look forward to it when I’m feeling good. You bring back a lot of happy memories for me, and I appreciate that. Sending love and blessings to you, Moosie and Shamu❤❤❤

I so enjoyed reading your newsy comment,LarLar..…so many good memories…we have overhead fans and air conditioners in each room but I have to put them off when I film. In High School, We used lemon juice in the sun, hydrogen peroxide And lightening sprays…it’s a wonder our hair didn’t fall out!❤️

@@crushingtheir80snannyandmoose awe, that’s nice of you to say, Nanny. I noticed that some people are writing longer comments this week and we seem to have a lot in common. Yes, I used the lemon and peroxide too - it is a wonder we have hair😂. Did you ever cross the state line and go to Wanamaker’s? You mention the Jersey Shore from time to time, where did your family go? Mine went to Stone Harbor/Avalon every summer and I loved it! Stay cool you too.❤
