So Maleficent and Hades are played by Kristin Chenoweth and Cheyenne Jackson, both are incredible Broadway Stars, and Mal is played by Dove Cameron. Dove did Broadway too, she was on Hairspray Live with Kristin Chenoweth so it's like a reunion and I loved it.
And their more recent reunion is in the excellent (and far better than its name) Schmigadoon!

If you like China's voice (Uma's actress), you will be interested in knowing that was on another Disney when she was younger. The show was called A.N.T Farm and basically she played a genius in music who went to a special section of an high school where all the students were genius. And she was very young, like beginning of middle school?
She was in competition with an older girl who was jealous of her talents and the songs slayed! I think the most famous one is the reprise of Dynamite by Taio Cruz (it has 100M views on UA-cam), but all the other songs were originals!
China also has a group with her two older sisters, Thrii and they reprised the Halloween song of the show!
The sisters were also in some episodes of A.N.T Farm where they played famous stars!
The show was definitely good and even younger China was an amazing singer!

I love the fact that both of Mal's Parents are play by Brodway Monsters and it shows, they slay. I mean, Kristin Chenoweth as Maleficent and Cheyenne Jackson as Hades are both so fun and amazing, and also have amazing duos with Dove. I just love them.
Most of the actors in Descendants are actual singers like China, Dove, Sofia and etc which is why their voices are so amazing
I’m pretty sure Maleficent singing a broadway number is because she’s played by Kristin Chenoweth, who was one of the leads in Wicked.
Chenowith was actually the main lead in wicked i believe if not one of the two main leads because of Elphaba aka idina mizel (might have spelt her last name wrong)

I haven’t watched the whole vid yet but unlike Ever after High, I’m pretty sure descendants isn’t based upon the kids becoming there parents. Though some do take the roles, they aren’t aiming to be put to sleep for years like Snow White or anything, and the parents are the originals from the story’s :D

Uma's actress used to be the protagonist of an old disney show called "a.n.t farm" and the show had amazing songs, she was really young but her voice was already amazing, i really recommend the song "calling all the monster" its still a bop till this day

Both hades and maleficent are both broadway royalty, maleficent (Kristin Chenoweth) was the original Glinda in Wicked, and if you love hades voice you’ll love Julie and the phantoms, it was directed by Kenny Ortega who also directed descendants and high school musical.

There's also a second part to "It's Goin' Down" (it takes place a minute or two after the first part ends) and Uma's note at the end of it is undoubtedly the best part of the song

Part of why Maleficent is so camp and show-tuney in Evil Like Me (besides being hilarious) is because the actress is none other than Kristin Chenoweth! Probably best known for being the original Glinda in Wicked on Broadway, she is an icon and I genuinely love her as Maleficent. Plus, I feel like theres some Wicked callbacks in this specific performance!

Dove Cameron plays as Mal in all the movies she's always singing really good in all the disney movies she's been in. Cheyenne Jackson was the one who played as Hades as well in Descendant's 3.

I loved that they shook up the music styles for the parents' generation. It created a different feel that told you "these people are old-school" and gave off a very different vibe. Obviously they had to go kinda Broadway with Christian Chenoweth because, well, it's Cristian Chenoweth, and Hades just feels like a hardcore Rock kinda guy, so they _had_ to go with it!

Thought i post this again because i know they will blow your mind. You should listen to the songs from RWBY. Start with the first season songs! The singer of these songs is 14 and her father wrote them. I think he also sings with her in a couple. I know in one (red like roses pt. 2) her mother even sings with her. I don’t know if Mathew caught it - but Kristin Chenoweth plays Maleficent. Chenoweth is probably one of the biggest broadway stars, so having a showtunes style number as her song makes total sense

Evil Like Me is sung by Kristin Chenoweth who is a broadway actress, the role she's best known for is Glinda the Good from Wicked hence why they made her song broadway-like.
The second song's context isn't much since he's right about their backstory, but about the TikTok sound, yes it was used on a few but that's what happens when people who use TikTok to make memes or videos that use movie audio grow up with these movies. I learned to not be surprised anymore.
For It's Going Down, it takes place a while after Chilling Like A Villain. The king was kidnapped because Uma's gang realized who he was and they're using him as ransom. Even though they're all villain kids, Mal's group don't see themselves as entirely evil, having chosen they want to be good, and even then they had beef with Uma's group before they chose good. The best way I can really describe the two groups' relationship is they're rival gangs.
Context for If Only, without too many spoilers, is that it's the first movie, and Mal's having second thoughts about an evil plan she came up with to help Maleficent that she's currently in the middle of, and she's fallen in love with the king. Also, yeah, Dove Cameron's voice definitely suit songs that have high notes more than raps in my opinion. The differences can clearly be seen in the songs you watched in this video.
Again, I recommend watching the movies.

Also, Mal's actress, Dove Cameron, has her own music. She was also the star (or stars) of a show called Liv and Maddie, thought I don't remember how many songs were in that. It's really fun to watch and hear your reactions to songs and shows I grew up on and practically know by heart!

I love that you listened to Evil Like Me and Do What You Gotta Do back to back because i really love the contrast between those two songs and what it shows about Mal's character development and her relationship with each parent. I have a whole mini essay about it but i'm too lazy to type it out unless someone really wants me to, but thats the gist.
Something I noticed that I love is that for the pirates, they’re all fairly colorful but the colors are washed out and greyed placed against a grey, dreary background meanwhile both Uma and Harry are wearing very bright colors against the same background so they really stand out amongst the other pirates, I love that

The thing is the song with mal and hade is emotional he’s explaining he left because he didn’t agree with the decisions her mom was making and that he would have taken her with him except his father was a terrible parent and he worried he would be too in his mind being a parent from the shadows was his in his opinion protecting her and that part of the reason he’s evil is his dad which is why he says can’t you see your just like me because nether wants to be like their parent but finds it hard not to he Also implies he watched her grow up just hid in the shadows protected her and tried to be a good father even if she doesn’t know he’s also trying to point out they both have terrible dads and he wants to get to know her more and she’s welcome if she wants to try the spin was also a hug
You should really listen to julie and the phantoms. Its a show directed by kenny ortega (who directed these movies) and has quite a few actors from these movies as well. The songs are phenomenal and the show overall is amazing

its so so fun to see you be baffled at the vocals because honestly? every time i listen to do what you gotta do, my first instinct is to go "oh they held cheyenne back on this one" cause that man can go *wild* 😂 so its so neat to see how stunning he is even when not going full throttle. in general, all the singers have fantastic ranges/voices that they sometimes feel just truly underutilized in the descendants movies, which just makes seeing someone hear them for the first time and appreciate their talent still even more fun :DD
One of the funniest things about Descendants 2 is that Harry's eyeliner slowly builds up over the course of the movie. At the beginning he barely had any and by "It's going down", near the end of the movie, he has excessive eyeliner.
