    Plan on replacing both heads a new set of pistons and cylinders wouldn’t hurt to have to polish the cranks out if you’re gonna put on new bearings so the micro crew hold the oil in place but breaking in oh yeah make sure you put in fresh oil it’s not rocket science! When I get the engine apart and diagnose all the stuff that needs to be replaced and get the new parts, stair hot dip, the sheet metal and repaint it. It’s only three hours to have it put back together and running and out the door. I rebuilt many air cooled Volkswagen engines. Formula V enthusiast in SCCA in early 70’s.

      @@BajaShine already done. The only thing holding me up is the new rod bushings are too tight to easily slide the wrist pins through without major honing. The originals are worn into the copper (for obvious reasons) but the new wrist pins fit those bushings fine. I can't get the new wrist pins to fit into the new bushings without honing them into the copper either. I just ordered another set of bushings but If my new set of bushings are still too tight then I guess I'll just have to press the old bushings back in because what difference does it make at that point? Once I fix this bushing/wrist pin issue, that engine will be back together and installed in no time.

      You talking about the plug the factory installed that the dipstick pushes into the pan upon installation? You don't reinstall that plug. It was there from the factory to prevent stuff from falling into the pan. Dipstick installation pushed the plug into the pan when dipstick was first placed into the dipstick tube during production. I guess now that I think about it, you could reinstall it if you wanted to, but once you put the dipstick back in, you'd just push the plug back into the bottom of the pan again so there's not really a point, unless you want the next guy to think he's the first to change the fluid?

      @HollywoodHornet Місяць тому

      My memory fails me in my old age, but I believe they were supposed to flash with turn signal. For some reason, when hooked up, those running board lights looked like a UFO under there with a pulsing flash. I can't remember if it was when the signal was activated or the brakes were applied, or just the parking lights turned on. In any case, because of that weird strobe effect, that wire was disconnected and now they only illuminate at a consistent light with the parking lights on. Running board turn signal flash was disabled.

    Bad test. Your voltage meter needs to go in the trash. A volt meter set at 20 volts shows the volts you start with, and once engine is running shows how many volts the alternator is charging. Your pressure water system tester actually blows head gaskets if an engine is cold. They should only be used after an engine is hot because the engine metal is expanded, but cold it isnt and can cause an area of a head gasket to actually blow. As for the OBD 2 tester, you test nothing if no engine light is on. You could check one for a pending code, but other than that its pointless. Heres the proper way to check out a car. Make sure the volt meter is putting out 13.5 to 14.5 volts when engine is running. First, look under it for oil leaks, second look under the differential and see if oil is leaking out. Next, squeeze the upper radiator hose when engine is cold and if it has pressure when it is cold it has a blown head gasket, but if the radiator or tank is full and no pressure when cold then its okay. Next, turn on the key then start and pay attention to how long it takes for the oil light to turn off which should be no more than 3 seconds. Next listen to the engine for upper noises (especially in the modular V8s that are notorious for clattering rockers when engine is cold and chain problems), next listen to the oil pain area for rod knocks.
