Had a ton of fun making this video and whilst it's true, the actual painting didn't turn out great, it led me to partner up with @AltCases and I'll have a review of that case up next week.
you can bring this back to the original layer with sandpaper and then repaint it. you would never be able to tell the difference other than it being smoother, but make sure the last grit that you use is a high one.
I would highly recommend painting your PS5 instead of buying the overpriced plates. First you need to scuff the surface so primer will adhere better, then prime and paint with Krylon Fusion, then seal it with a clear coat. Paint indoors with proper ventilation and warm up the can of paint in a bucket of warm water prior to using.
Ya, his video is just a lame attempt to sell alt cases or whoever he said he's partnered with. Anyone who is dumb enough to "clean" wet paint is a moron.
Should use MTN 94 from your local friendly graffiti stockists and a grey soft cap. Low pressure paint, matt finish and the grey soft cap is designed for fading one colour into another so it's more of a mist than a concentrated point of where the paint goes.
If u really wanna black ps5, juz ordering a dbrand darkplates as i do.. So i could keep my white plates w/out ruin it.. When u cannot take back what u have done to ur ps5 plates, its a regretable, shame, disrespect ur ps5, & a devastating disturbing look of ur ps5.. Damn it, man..
I appreciate the advice mate but if you watch my latest videos, you'll see that I got a set of high quality black faceplates from a company here in the UK. Plus, you can easily pick up the official white plates for around £30 so I wasn't as fussed. Was a learning experience.
@@Actroids To each his own mate. I wanted to try spray painting. It's not the end of the world for me that the plates came out wrong considering how many alternatives we have.
Always research before spray painting it is not as easy as you think it is. Also, that's not an overspray, it's just you over spraying in one spot too long. overspray is paint particles that fly everywhere and stick. I've made all these same mistakes and one major thing I learned is you got to have patients when it comes to spraying multiple coats and clear coating, It is key for best results, rush it and that happens.
Yeah I appreciate the advice mate. I wasn't really too concerned either if I did mess it up. I already had DBrand plates on back order and fortunately I picked up matte black plates from a company here in the UK and it looks awesome. Never going to attempt spray painting again.
lol did you really tell people to paint indoors and not mention that they should have ventilation? And why would you clean the paint like you did? Swiping down on the surface when the paint is still wet? Something tells me youve never painted anything in your life. Get experienced with painting and then make a video giving people correct information.
Not a ps5 but I just finished painting the top cover of a vintage cd player from 94. Took me 3 tries to get it right. First try it stayed blotchy. Second time it stayed even but rough. On my third tried I had learned from my mistakes and I got a smooth, matte even finish. I’m very happy with it. You just have to make sure to do sand it, use primer and do even base coats and most importantly let the paint dry before a second or 3rd coat of your base and clear coat.
I think the Rust Oleum Matte Black paint is fine for the job but be sure to follow my guidelines. Avoid outdoors. Practice spray painting. Tweet me your final results, id be interested in knowing how things turn out.
1. Spray from a distance. 2. Spray atleast 4-5 coats or layers. 3. let each coat dry for upto 20 mins. 4. After the last Coat leave it for 6-8 hours to dry up.
You really need to dust with spray paint, spraying from a distance making a light coat. Too close and you'll get splatters and thick layers that drip and don't adhere

There's a technique in spraying paint. If you know what you're doing and you have a dust free environment it would be fine. I think he put way to much on when he did the first coat. The amount of dust that would of went on it hanging it on a washing line ruined it. Even on a nice warm day theres dust. It's like spraying a car you go to a body shop otherwise it will look terrible. It's probably easier just to spend the money on replacement plates to save a lot of arsing about...
Wouldn't take much to sand it down and start over. Depending how bad dust and particles got on it. That's key when your painting too. Sand in between coats!
I spraypainted my plates matte black exactly the same way as you, hung up in my back garden on the washing line but i did about 10 light coats until it was all covered and even and they came out flawless and look amazing, i just need to buy a black controller now it doesnt look right black console with white controller haha
To make it really cool you should get some silver or white liquid paint and splatter it all over it (like really tiny splatter dots) they would give it a really nice effect you could even tape off part of it so it doesn't get any paint there.
The thing is some people like me want the playstation colored logo with mat black looks beautiful he yes have to lorn how to paint that’s it and he doesn’t sand it and nothing lol 😂😂😂
I bought sum 30 dollar black plates and it looks good now I really want to go to my homies lowrider shop and paint my white plates with primer then blue with gold flakes then clear but i wonder if that will make ps5 not dissipate heat
hey man all you gotta do to fix this is sand the plates down with 400 grit and reshoot it! take it from a dude who does body/paintwork for a living. i’m about to paint mine with some automotive paint and clear 🤘🏻
@dylan langhirt I was thinking of doing mine in a metallic but do you think it would be smart to hit the plastic with some tie bond first? Then base coat..then top coat..then clear?
All the problems with this are down to your lack of experience painting. Nothing to do with the process or the ability of the covers to be painted. One could still flat down the paint and reapply.
u didnt prep the surface at all, held the rattle can way to close and sprayed it on way too thick. Maybe practice on something you don't care to mess up. Also watching tip videos like this one.
