Just came upon your channel. I too have an above ground pool we installed 3 years ago. I'm 74. I found a UA-cam channel called "Swim University". It has been very helpful in maintaining the balance in our pool. I ended up also taking a water sample to a pool store where they tested the water for free and then made suggestions as to how to clear up our algae problem. We are not obligated to buy from them, but it was easier than trying to figure it out on my own. Love your channel and the work ethic you have. You are so young and on your way to good things. Keep up the good work and enjoy life.

      2nd for @SwimUniversity
Looks like you let the chlorine/bleach burn off, and had an algae bloom.
There is a lot to learn, but once you get the basics down it's pretty easy. Make sure your PH is properly balanced, then make sure you've added enough CYA (stabilizer) to ensure that the sun doesn't burn off the chrlorine/bleach you add. To manage the sanitizer portion, I've been using chlorine pucks instead this year, and it's more expensive but super easy.
Also, a cheap little sand filter is going to work a lot better than that cheap cartrige filter that comes with the pool.

It is very smart to buy an inexpensive pool. It doesn’t raise your taxes and you could replace it every year. The important thing is to get wet and relax.

@Floar You got that right. When we were first married, the bathroom watertrap failed, of course late at night. I grabbed a new one in the toolbox, the plumbing tape, and tools and set to it. My husband stood there being the scrub nurse, "adjustable wrench please, tape," with a slightly bemused look. I was in a zone, kind of frustrated because it ALWAYS happens late at night. Done and dusted, I looked up at him and he said "My ex wife would have spent all this time having an anxiety attack, blaming me for the leak". We both started laughing and I said "I grew up poor and fix things".

Get a floating cover for the pool. A floating one is easy to put on it with just one person. It reduces the heat loss by evaporation, it reduces the amount of dirt going into the pool, and it reduces the amount of light hitting the water which reduces the algae growth. Get a flocculant. After adding it let the pump mix the water well, then stop the pump for some hours. That cloudiness of the water is a colloidal solution. The filter cant catch it this way. The flocculant agglomerates it so the filter can catch it. The pH must be around 7-7.2 for that to work. You can literally see it flaking.

  • @FancyCheetahs

We have had an aboveground pool for 37 years ( the same pool but several liners) . We have a DE filter, use trichlor chlorine (so the sun doesn't burn off the chlorine) and check the cyanuric acid level. After those 2 are at ideal levels, we use borax. Borax will raise the pH and keep the alkalinity stable. Borax will also reduce the amount of chlorine needed to sanitize the water. Test the water frequently.

We have an Intex pool for the grandkids that we put up every spring on a pad on our concrete barn porch deck. Just use a powerful enough pump to properly filter the pool water and add pool supplements to control the algae, balance the ph, and use the chlorine tablet floats. We change our filters every two to three weeks. Our water is as crystal clear today as the first day we put the pool up. We also put a pool cover over the top when not swimming to keep the bugs and junk out. Easy care, inexpensive, and so much fun! Really enjoy your videos!

Get a floating skimmer, a mesh bag and some Mr Clean magic erasers. Place the skimmer on the pool near the water exit to filter opening. I'm the skimmer place a small mesh bag with several COPPER pennies in it and a magic eraser. The copper pennies keep algae from forming and the magic eraser catches any algae particles that may be floating in the pool. Your water needs to be PH balanced to 6.8-7.2 in order for your pool chemicals to work and you'll want to shock the pool with half a pound of shock whenever it rains and once a week for maintenance.
Do all these things and your should not have an algae problem at all.

  • @dragnon8225

So glad you cleared your pool. Pools are their own beasts and filtration is everything but chemicals are important too. The rain definitely turned you pool green by lowering the ph. Baking soda would bring it back and then a good shock. Good luck to you guys and I love your videos.

Here's a tip. If you put the bottom of your grade stick on your desired elevation (top of fence) you can move the receiver up or down until it is on grade & the bottom of the stick is your elevation. You did not have to put a mark on the stick. The reference elevation should always be from the bottom of your grade rod or "stick". One more thing, probably not too important in a short distance like your pool fence, but if your plan is to use this laser on your shop build & you bought this laser used you really should have it re-calibrated. They can go out of calibration sitting on a shelf. Trust me on this, I spent 25 years calibrating Constriction Lasers & Survey Instruments.

My wife bought a salt water system a few years ago for a pool we had and it worked great, we also bought a 300# sand filter because of past experience with the cheap cartridge filters. Great job guys'!!!👍

We have the same pool (2nd summer with it) and I use the HTH app to help me keep up with the chemicals. It tells you exactly how much of what to add and has helped so much! We are in Florida and have 2 boys (8 & 5) swimming in it every day! No green pool for us this year! Love what you did with the fence!

I suggest you get a Floatron. Its a copper/silver ionizer and it made my pool care in central FL about 90% better. No need for a bigger pump or 24/7 runtime. I bought a timer and ran the small pump 12 hrs and used 75% less chemicals. The water was crystal clear didn't smell of chems. Do a search and look at their performance page. It is that good.

Just happened upon your channel and watched the last video and now this one. Looking good, but my (73 yr. old) OCD kicked in and I can't stop seeing that you did not check the corner support pool poles to make sure they weren't angled in. The corner pole closest to the privacy fence and new wall is in further at the bottom than it should be. This might sound nit-picking, but that's not what I'm trying to do. You two are a cute couple and I look forward to watching your other videos.
      Take care, Patricia

Thank you for so many great ideas. We love DIY's and you show how to stick to it, accept what happens and keep moving. This is lacking in much of our society now a days. We got a little floaty pool to start out with and yours gave us some ideas for the next one. Congrats and happy everything to you both!!

We have the same 15x10 ftIntex pool, onto our 2nd liner (7yrs) now. Only 2.5ft deep, ideal for the grandchildren. Great pool, easy to heat. Good times ahead.

Fantastic job guys!!! Part 1 came up randomly on my feed and I couldn’t wait for this video to see how it turned out! You’ve definitely earned my subscription. And you have me seriously considering buying an above ground pool. You remind me of my husband and I when we were starting out. You’re just starting your family and our youngest of 3 is just turning 16 and the other 2 are adults now. We always have a project or 3 or 4 on the go. (Including building our barn ourselves as well!) You two work well together. May your future be full of joy, laughter, children and projects!!! ❤❤❤

We built a porch and the worst part was staining it. After trial and error, we found the easiest method was to have one person apply the stain with a pump sprayer and the other person come behind and brush it in. The only problem is masking areas from over spray. Keep up the good work!

We used to have a large above ground pool and used a Solar Pool Ionizer, Come with 2 Copper Anodes. Found on amazon. We just installed the same size pool you have and will be using this in the pool also.

A lot of power companies use the foam to set their poles, it works surprisingly well and is useful for places you can’t pack in concrete easily. Downside is the cost is about double what the concrete would cost

Green is a nice color! I never had a project that went perfectly the first time. I'm waiting on new upholstery material for my ottoman because the stuff I bought on clearance is SHREDDING as I apply it. The cats want the first try at that, not me.

Looks great you two! Yes pool chemistry is a whole new skill all in itself. First year and winter was super easy. This year I am dealing with this dreaded yellow chlorine resistant “mustard algae”, every time I think I beat it it’s sneaks back in. Oh the joys of pool ownership 😅

@@donnaflynn9615thank you Donna I did get something called Yellow-out after my second attempt with it, many times vacuuming to waste, and keeping chlorine really high, I think it may finally be beat. Fingers crossed. 😅
