I think a clear shift in your mindset is that you have curated a wardrobe that you love and use. Not just inspired by what you saw online or who your fantasy self was. You've also said in previous videos that some pieces might look similar to outsiders but it makes sense for you. That is what matters overall.
I find it very calming when someone has a generally similar look most of the time. I love the fact that when I watch your videos I can expect denim, black blazer, moto jacket, black or white tee and boots or sneakers. I can imagine youtubers feel some pressure to have fresh looks but to me that is totally unnecessary. Influencers who post very different outfits just make me feel tired and overwhelmed. People around me think they are adding variety by having similar clothes in different colors, but they look the same and I always think they should have stuck to their best colors..I love clothes but would like to be remembered in my best outfits instead of remembered for the wide variety of outfits I have.
I think the last thought is the most important. Be thankful you have (beautiful) clothes because there are some who are not so lucky. Overconsumption is insane, nowadays there is rapid fashion not fast fashion, with cheap materials and underpaid labours. Buy good quality clothes and be a proud outfit repeater! Thanks Christina, you made a really good video (as always)! ❤️
I never thought I was a fashion person but when I found myself with lots of random impulse purchases, I realised I had been approaching my personal style in the wrong way. No, I'm not a fashion person but I like to look good. Now that I have a small, 17-piece interchangeable wardrobe, no, I don't have lots of options but I know I will look good in all of my combinations. So that's my personal style all sorted out and good to go. No, I don't have new and exciting pieces all the time, but on the other hand, I never feel uncomfortable, mismatched or insecure in my outfits. Having that limited, well-curated wardrobe frees up my energy for stuff that actually makes me grow as a person, like observing and exploring my surroundings instead of worrying about how I look :)
Fellow outfit repeater here 🙋🏻♀️ Always been one, but I absolutely don’t have a minimal wardrobe. Lolol. I’m in the process of really nailing down my core personal style and am working on filling the gaps I see. My ultimate goal is to just have a really curated wardrobe overall and a good sense of my own personal style.
All your ideas are great! One other thing I thought about is taking time to care for a particular item like mending, treating a stain, ironing. It reconnects me to this item and reduces desire to shop. I think it's about taking the time with your wardrobe that helps to curb the impulse shopping. Thank you for the great video!!
I find too that taking care of my clothes: ironing, hanging, steaming, hand washing.... keeps me connected to what I have. I personally am not minimalist in my wardrobe. I have a lot of things I wear often and keep tabs on what I wear and feel best in. I actually rotate those to the back of my closet after a wear and keep things fresh that way with having a little more than a typical minimalist may have. I am still refining my style too so rotation is a great way for me to determine: would I rather dig into the back of my closet for something than wear what is up front and easy to grab? I love wearing things around the house too. If I am just home, I still get fully dressed and ready to go... with the exception of wearing shoes all over the house all day, and see how I feel in things and if they are practical/functional in style, fabric, fit, etc. for my life. Thank you for another great video! You encourage me to go to my closet rather than Poshmark after watching ;)
Same here! even though I am retired from my job, I like to dress every day, and wear nice outfits for my volunteer activities. Also an ironer- not too many of us left!
For me it’s color, texture, layers, and shoes. I have the same basic outfit formula: short sleeved dolman-style top with skinny jeans. But I can make that fancy with a leather jacket and heeled boots, professional with a blazer, or casual with sneakers and a denim jacket. I also love mixing and matching the color of my shirt with the color of my layer and/or shoes. And I incorporated some different textures in my tops since I mostly wear solids. It makes for a lot of fun different combinations depending on how I’m feeling that day!
I keep a running list of outfits that I wear and like. Seeing the list grow is really fun and it is also a way to shop my closet for more variety. So far this fall/winter I have 42 different outfits, including today.
I think the biggest factor in not getting bored with my wardrobe is having 4 different seasons. I will get bored with my clothing for 2 weeks and then it’s time to put some of them into storage and take out thick clothing or breezy dresses. I like to keep some items from the season just passing and mix them with the “new” ones i hang up
I have aprox. 50 items of clothing, 15 pairs of shoes and 5 handbags for all occasions, and enough underwear for about 3 weeks of dressing without having to do laundry. I get dressed in an outfit that matches what I'm feeling + my activities for that day with whatever is clean. This way I challenge myself to use what I have, come up with different outfit combinations, and also keep tabs of my favorite pieces in my closet, as well as the neglected ones. Then I make an effort to use the neglected pieces on the next 3 week rotation. Usually the last week of the rotation when my options are "limited" is when I have the most fun!
As a danish person who lived in Toronto for a bit, I find it funny that a person living in Toronto is the one to introduce me to a danish brand, and we have the same name 😂❤️
I just recently bought a few really nice sweaters and sweater dresses. I am in my late 20s and I really want to start taking better care of my clothing (partially because I love my clothes and partially because I want to prolong their life in my closet/want to get the most out of my money.) Is there a particular tool you would suggest for defuzzing? 🤗
I love the basic things that make me feel my best, those basics are not just basic or boring, those are timeless pieces...i have an oversized turtleneck sweater and i noticed that when i dont know what to wear (when i had a lot of zombies in my wardrobe) i always came back to it, and i love how i look everytime.
Love playing dress up !!! Good to know it’s not just me 😂 that’s when I notice how my clothes could look and feel a bit better, I ended up taking in one of my jeans and I’ve enjoyed wearing it so much more since then :)
I like basics and elevated basics… like I live in black tank tops. But for something “fancy” I have a velvet one w a cowl neck. I’ve had it for who knows how long but I wear it every holiday season :) I think now that I’m heading into “middle age” I’ve finally figured out what I like.
I just returned a full asos order because I didn’t like anything in it (mainly because a lot of the stuff didn’t look the way it did on the website or just didn’t fit) normally I would just deal with it and try to make them ‘work’ because I liked the pieces individually even if I didn’t like the way they looked on me. Now I’m just of the mindset if I don’t like it I’m returning it because I deserve to like what I bought and to get money back if I didn’t
I love your videos and your style! It's really easy for me to get stuck in the mindset that my wardrobe has to be really loud or "high fashion" to be good enough (which doesn't suit me or my lifestyle at all). I watch a lot of fashion vloggers and start to think I should break out of my comfort zone and be more experimental with colors, patterns, textures, cuts, etc. But every time that never feels like me, and I have to accept that I'm not just playing it safe - I truly enjoy keeping things simple and chic. I don't feel the need for my clothes to make a statement or express some deep part of me. Wearing clothes that really flatter your body, in which you look visibly comfortable with yourself is enough of a statement anyway.
I've downsized a lot since my divorce. However, I buy 2 or 3 pieces each season to spiff up my wardrobe. I just got a great designer belt at my favorite consignment shop. But, I was taking in a bag of dresses to sell and spotted a white silk shirt with black embroidery of flowers and immediately thought of your wardrobe. I tried it on and BAM, it's now mine. I'm saving it for a Christmas party. I'm going to wear it with my black velvet jeans and fancy booties. If you ever get to a point where you need to replace a worn out piece, I recommend taking a look at second hand. I only buy a few things each season, but what I do find is different from every one else. I'm not wearing the soccer Mom uniform of classics like my peers. Anyway, just wanted to mention my gorgeous YSL silk blouse I got for a song... oh, and my, new to me, Gucci belt. 🙂
These are all great ideas! Alyssa Beltempo is another UA-camr that I follow that has a channel all about shopping your closet and lots of how to wear one piece in multiple ways.
When it comes to layering there are so many ways to switch it up. What I like to do is wearing the longsleeved piece under another piece. You can go for a more 90ies look with a dress over a longsleeve or a little more punk with a band tee over a longsleeve with detailed sleeves like stripe patterns or materials like lace.
One thing I’m realizing for myself in my simple wardrobe is I do need to have more categories of clothes. When I started I wanted everything to work for everything, but that just really hasn’t been working for me. I basically have “working from home clothes” and “going to an event/night out clothes” but I have been shopping for these like minimalist wardrobe “basics” which frankly work for neither occasion for me 😅. I work from home and that has definitely shifted my wardrobe needs.
I respect people who go this route but I personally never could do it. I love getting dressed in fun clothing with lots of options. I tried going more minimalist in the past and learned it's pretty much the same (if not more) amount of work as it is to just keep tidy and organized with lots of variety. I did downsize on the amount of things I have other than clothes but still kept so much that no one would ever think of me as a minimalist. I just love color and interesting things. 💕 However, I love watching these videos! 🥳 Also, one thing I do is bin some of my clothes and trade out occasionally. I have a lot of clothes but I do love all the pieces and wear them all. 🥰
Yep, it all boils down to personal style & how important fashion is to you! I like to think I can integrate minimalist principles while still maintaining a larger, more eclectic wardrobe.
I think you make a great point. Loving all my pieces and wearing them all as you said is the key for me. Right now that means I have a small wardrobe, and it probably will always mean that. I just like being able to grab whichever top I'm feeling and which ever bottoms fit the occasion and I'm done. It's so simple for me. Takes very little brain power and the results are rewarding to me, because I feel good in every outfit. It's taken several declutters and purchases on thredup over a couple years to refine my taste, and now I think I finally reached the wardrobe I always wanted. I'll always be adding and removing a few pieces here and there, but I'm just very happy with myself and what I've accomplished with my wardrobe. It supports me and my needs for comfort, fulfillment, and expression.
My repeat formula is jeans, button downs and sneakers (although it's getting colder now in Norway so sneakers are being replaced with boots). I keep myself from getting bored by having different colours and cuts on my button donws. Sure they're all oversized, but the cut is lightly different. I have a small colour palette so I don't get overwhelmed but 5-6 button downs in different colours gives me variety and choice. Also jewellery!
Love the tip to "Play dress-up" with your own clothes. I did that exact same thing today. I wore a pair of beautiful black trousers (thrifted) and a new leopard print tee with my favorite black cardigan. I've never worn these items together before and I feel good. I even have some pep in my step lol even though I'm just hanging around the house. I would definitely like to wear this outfit again when I go somewhere. Thanks for your hard work on your content.
From another CBC kid, I also LOVE dressing up 😂 I often think about new outfits with pieces I already own either first thing in the morning or when I'm falling asleep, so playing dress up first thing in the morning on a weekend when there's no pressure makes me feel excited to get up & inspired for the rest of the day. The gratitude piece is so key. I loved this video! Great work as always 🤗💕
These are great tips. I especially relate to having an event to attend and being very undecided about my outfit. Now, like you, I take an hour or two when I'm relaxed to try different clothing combos, including accessories. I keep a journal of these outfits and what they are appropriate for and, presto, perfect look with no money spent!
i have been finding these videos suuuuuuper helpful for me. i am currently on a weight loss journey so it has given me time to really assess my wardrobe and personal style since i am not really buying anything new at the moment unless i really need to. (so here is where i will add things to my cart/wishlist and assess it, or create pinterest moodboards) i have been clearing out the clothing that is too big and frumpy on me now to make room for a more curated wardrobe. i def want to go more the capsule wardrobe with the timeless basics but add in some fun and funky pieces here and there as long as they can coordinate with my clothes :)
Once I started my first teaching job I began taking "fit picks" every day and now I get so much fulfillment out of scrolling through those pictures and seeing all the ways I'm able to utilize the different pieces in my wardrobe! I tried to track my wardrobe for a while and while I enjoyed that process, I've found that seeing the pieces in action brings me a whole different level of satisfaction! Thank you for completely changing my mindset about my wardrobe!
I would love to see a video focusing in on “how to play dress up with your existing wardrobe” I LOVE THIS CONCEPT and hadn’t really thought about it until you brought it up here. I am on my own journey of downsizing and creating better shopping habits for myself and have been LOVING your videos ❤️😊 Keep creating meaningful content!
Your wardrobe is very similar to mine, so I enjoy seeing your outfit choices and style tips 😊👌🏾 Anyone looking to minimise definitely do a low buy and shop your own wardrobe.
Another great video! Love your statement about gratefulness for what we have. Keeping that in mind will make it easier for us to not want everything new that we see.
I have tendency to wear the same uniform outfits every day (or every week), and shopping my closet is something I haven't done in a while until today. I realize through this exercise that I like to keep things simple with a couple trends here and there because in all honesty, I can get lazy sometimes when it comes to deciding what to wear. Perhaps I just need to play dress up more often so that I can gain that sense of appreciation and gratitude again
You are absolutely fabulous. What stores do you usually do your grocery shopping at? Do you ever stock up on water? Can you possibly do some in store grocery shopping videos? It would be awesome if you could show how you do your full shopping trip
I also have a small and very neutral wardrobe. I think the gratitude is key. And I think paying special attention to fit, quality, and textures helps too. I’m 5’1” so getting something petite or having it tailored makes it feel more special. Same with having beautiful fabrics like silk, 100% high-quality cotton, wool, cashmere, etc. Edit: obviously I mean the quality and fabrics as something to look for when building a wardrobe or replacing pieces, not as an excuse to shop. I get less bored of my clothes because I was careful to pick great pieces to begin with. But having something tailored to fit better helps refresh excitement about an existing piece you love but rarely wear because it doesn’t fit well.
I totally agree with searching hashtags for whatever you think your style is. I always do that and I get so inspired! I see so many different looks I can try with pieces I already own and it’s super fun.
I've figured out I still need a little variety in my accessories and makeup to not feel like I'm always wearing the same old thing, but that I need MUCH MUCH less variety than I thought. Example, I don't need 10 scrunchies or 10 claw clips; 2 of each is plenty. One z palette of depotted shadows with a few pops is sufficient.
I challenge myself to use things as accessories I wouldn’t normally think to!!! For instance, over the summer I took the buckle belt off my parka and wore it with jeans and skirts! Or I clipped a chain necklace to my jeans like a pocket chain, or taking the ribbon off of a gift I received and wearing it in my hair hahaha waste not!! 😂
The problem behind "being bored" is really a fear of being perceived as something we are not. As in: I have a fun personality and if I wear "boring clothes" I am afraid people will see me as reserved and introverted... It basically is our own fear that turns against us! So for me, it's just a matter of lack of confidence.
I do black bottom at ALL times. That way I can go simple on top or batsh*t CRAZY if I feel like it that specific day. I love a bold print! I love to get tops that have black in them but also colour! I also love a black and white striped blouse for a more office kind of look. My style is very much black with a tiny bit of spice from Blair waldorf haha! :D
I retired last July. I have to curb my buying habit drastically. It was hard to stop buying work appropriate clothings and shoes at first. I had to return dresses, dressier shoes, blazers, shirts, and nice handbags that I habitually would get. There’s just no reason to get these no matter how much discount or how much I like them. I kind of have to re-establish my daily go-to. Thankfully I do have a lot of casual pieces that I can mix and natch to make daily dressing not stale.
I’m very happy with my minimalist wardrobe black leggings are the only thing I wear so I’m sure people think I wear the same thing bc that’s all I wear as far as bottoms , tops are very minimal too tons of turtlenecks and sweaters in fall / winter lots of grays blacks brown tan … my way of spicing it up is accessories hats , jewelry, bags .. this is where my money gets spent on I spend a lot on these accessories bc I want them to be quality items , I get custom made jewelry bc I want them to represent my personality , I love gigipip for hats and love vintage handbags or just new designers that aren’t well known that have unique style of bags … but I’m pretty sure people think I don’t clothes bc it seems like I’m wearing stuff over n over but I’m ok with that
I tried basics ONLY, didn't work out for me. I get soooooo boooored! Plus, i get all those various moods that I need my wardrobe to go along with. I am pretty minimalist in other life areas, I don't even have a cable TV! But my wardrobe is exempt 😕
Heyyy! You’re so fun and I’m a great fan! I have a question: if you like how a piece fits on you and it comes in different color that you like, would you get multiples of it?
I do but only in the colors i actually wear (aka black and white). I stopped buying duplicates in colors that I thought would be “nice to change it up” bc I never wore them 😬
Sorry to be off topic but ever since you did the video on your hair loss issue, I have be thinking of you. In my 20's I had terrible acne and then started having hair loss, my Doctor started me on the contraceptive pill Dianette (I think it's called Diana where you are?). It has extra estrogen and it sorted out both my acne and hair loss within 6 months. It does carry a higher risk of stroke for some but if you have a good doctor they will go through a checklist before considering it. It might not be right for you but it's just an idea as I so understand how it feels to have no control over your skin and hair. Hugs and best wishes Christina, your beautiful anyway, remember that x
From November to April I basically don't care what I have on other than a rather extensive wardrobe of coats which is the only thing anyone ever sees these days!
what I see clearly in all these type of videos on not overshopping, or spending too much money is that the wardrobe is actually very on trend: blazers, mom/more lose jeans, Converse, stack necklaces, round earings, oversized long coats. So my question is when these garments are no longer trendy are you going to still wear them or have to buy new ones? What I am saying is that I don't actually see personal style, I see trends that in order to follow your clothes have to be new.
I think those items you mentioned and keep seeing are chosen exactly because they’ll be forever trendy. Take Converse for example - Chuck Taylor All Stars have been around since 1921, that’s 100 years! :D
How not to get bored with your wardrobe: stop using clothes to "express yourself" and see clothes as tools to allow you to go out into the world dressed appropriately and, if you like, elegantly. Take your focus off your wardrobe and focus outward instead. I may not be expressing this well, but the main point is not using clothes as art, but as useful tools to take you where you want to go.
I think a clear shift in your mindset is that you have curated a wardrobe that you love and use. Not just inspired by what you saw online or who your fantasy self was. You've also said in previous videos that some pieces might look similar to outsiders but it makes sense for you. That is what matters overall.

So true about the pressure! Whenever I don't feel pressured to put together something amazing, I put together my best outfits!

The wardrobe you have thus far curated is really great - i like! But what counts is that YOU love it! 😀
🥰🥰🥰
I love the idea of playing with your wardrobe! Spending time with what you already own - will definitely do this!
I seriously love your content! Thank you for being realist about living more intentional
I do the dress up regularly, I call it "Barbie" - ing 😁
Haha omg I love this
Awww that's so cute! ❤️
Love the content ❤❤. Happy holidays to you and your family. And all who are watching this beautiful content.
You too Myrna!
“Vibe with yourself” LOVE THAT! 🥳🎉🎉🎉
Love all your videos!! My wardrobe is pretty basic too but I love shoes and handbags so that keeps things interesting.
Such a fun way to mix it up!
Thank God, the checkered blazer stayed on!!! Love it!!
I've seen ur video recommended for a while and I never realized you're not even a million subs? HOW. you deserve more subs 🥲🙏
Omg thank youuuu! Manifesting 🥰✨
Love you videos! Thank you for the inspiration Christina!
I’m enjoying your videos and content so much! You and my adult niece look enough alike you could be sisters. You’re both adorable!!😍
🥰🥰🥰 omg love it!
Hi Christina, I love the sunglasses. Do you mind telling me where to get it? Thanks heaps, Gloria
Gratitude. Yes.
This is one of the only sponsored content portions of a video I have watched in full! This was very interesting.
I love your wardrobe 😍
😭 thank you!
Hi Christina, would you share where you bought all your coats, blazers and jackets? Love them!
They’re linked in this video and in my “entire wardrobe” video 🥰
Thanks for referencing your necklaces. I drool over them in every video.
Glad you kept the checked jacket Looks lovely on you - enjoyed this Video 💖🇮🇱❤️
I get it! Do you!! ❤️
Great video..my problem is the need for color in my wardrobe!!!
Do you! 🥰
Heyyy! You’re so fun and I’m a great fan! I have a question: if you like how a piece fits on you and it comes in different color that you like, would you get multiples of it?
I do but only in the colors i actually wear (aka black and white). I stopped buying duplicates in colors that I thought would be “nice to change it up” bc I never wore them 😬
There is a much longer story behind this minimalist comment... Your work that you have shared has helped me. Thank you.
Great advises 👍
You look great!
Hi Christina, what's the size of your watch's dial? İ have tiny wrists too and i like the way yours look on you, not too big not too small.
40 mm!
This is awesome! Great video!
loved this video!
Great tips! Thank you always great content
Thank you Ava! Good luck on your journey too ❤️❤️
how do you handle/manage/store 'occasion wear'?
Hi Christina
Yes! Thank you for the idea! 🥰
@@Christinamychas Thank you
How many outfits do you wear in a week? Do you repeat outfits every week or do you have for 2 weeks or 4 weeks worth of clothing?
I can make a video but it depends! Sometimes I’ll wear the same pants all week, other times I’ll style up my wardrobe and rotate though! 😅
From November to April I basically don't care what I have on other than a rather extensive wardrobe of coats which is the only thing anyone ever sees these days!
Haha can fully relate
Good ideas! Thx!
Where is your sphere bracelet from if i may ask? I saw a similar one on Mejuri but the clasp is different and it is quite expensive!
It’s Mejuri!
Ha! Didn't notice the hair until the extreme close-up.
Lol. I don't concider my wardrobe as entertainment. I focus my energy on things that really serve me and my goals.
what I see clearly in all these type of videos on not overshopping, or spending too much money is that the wardrobe is actually very on trend: blazers, mom/more lose jeans, Converse, stack necklaces, round earings, oversized long coats.
There's something ironic about a "timeless" time piece
Or punny 😂😬
❤️❤️❤️
How not to get bored with your wardrobe: stop using clothes to "express yourself" and see clothes as tools to allow you to go out into the world dressed appropriately and, if you like, elegantly. Take your focus off your wardrobe and focus outward instead. I may not be expressing this well, but the main point is not using clothes as art, but as useful tools to take you where you want to go.
You are definitely not a sweater girl....no basic black turtle neck....even in Canada?
Lol I like hoodies and scarves!
Actually, I love your site, but I'm not interested in jewelry at all.
How do you survive in that cold with only dressed like that 🤔
Dark academia? Huh.
