Glad to know, i just bought my first ever quad and choose the cfmoto 600 and thought it was just me or my quad. i have rocked and rocked and sometimes it about impossible to switch gears.
Finally got my machine back. CFMOTO told the dealer to adjust the shifter linkage a certain way and it worked. Drove it around for about 15 minutes and it shifts normally without getting stuck. So any of you with shifting problems should return your quad to the dealer and have this done. The only thing that I still noticed is that on one occasion while shifting into low the gears did grind again. It showed on the display that it was in low but apparently not. I spoke with the tech again and he advised me to shift all the way to the upper left hand corner of the shifter then over to the right into low. Since trying that it appears to work. Only time will tell. Glad that I purchased the 5 year extended warranty. If the gear box burns up it should be covered.
Hi Erik, I'm glad to hear your issue resolved. I still am dealing with mine. I have near 10 hours on the ATV. I did find, at the suggestion of one of my subscribers, to rev the engine a little before a shift and that seems to rock the ATV back and forth enough that I can shift if I quickly engage the shift lever. It does seem to be related to having any type of tension on the drive train. I may make a video adjusting the shifter linkage if that's what fixed yours.
@@cfmotoman1270 that would be great. I will keep watching. Love the videos. I think that moving forward I am going to try and do all of the repairs that I can myself. I was going to adjust the link until I seen this video, I think I will have the dealer look into it. The dealer is over an hour away.

My CF Moto was hard shifting at the start but the more miles you put on it the better it will get. You have to keep in mind that everything is new and everything is tight and has to get some wear on it so it shifts. After 1500 miles the problem pretty well doesn’t exist anymore. Also I think the owners manual says change the transmission fluid every 200 hours which I think is too far because it was already starting to get dark after 50 hours. I change all my fluids on my bike every 50 hours everything seems to be working fine and I use AMSOIL products for everything. only thing I don’t change that often is the coolant and the brake fluid every couple years for that.
Update on hard to shift into gear at times. I found on mine if you put it in neutral and give the throttle a little blip and wait a second it will go right into gear. my 800 XC now has about 2800 km on it. shifting now is pretty well a non-issue.
Thanks so much for the insight on how to remove the plastic. That alone is worth the time to watch your video. All the hidden screws are just bad engineering. I'm sure down the road they'll figure out how to make it robust and serviceable without making it ridiculous to take apart.
When it locks up, simply hold the brake and turn the engine off. If it shifts, the belt is not releasing . Could be a couple things. The clutches are out of alignment, may need shimmed. That would be covered by warranty. The engines base idle could be a bit high, Engaging the clutches, or and most likely it just needs ridden. The belts do need to break in.
That's what I think it is. I wish he could respond and say if it worked or not. But yes if it shifting like better when engine off and gets stuck or hard to shifting with engine on defenetly what you said some type of clutch issue or rpm.
This sounds like a can-can problem. I have a 2010 800 Outlander with the same problem . I've been told it's just the way they are. Just keep on rocking it . Joy.
Ok a little clarification on previous post. The dealer was told by factory rep that they’re not familiar with the exact problem we’re having but did suggest adjusting the shift linkage. We’re gonna pick the machine up this afternoon and see if it’s better. The dealer’s management assures me if the problem continues or gets worse they’ll tear apart the transmission and CFMOTO will cover it. I’ll keep you posted on the status and look forward to hearing your thoughts as well as any other 2021 CFMOTO 600 owners or mechanics. Thank you
First comment that addresses the real issue. The grinding when going to low is solved by shortening the shifter linkage rod, allowing low to engage easier and fully without grinding. It's much easier than the video and is the real issue. Just be sure park still engages before you put the plastics back on. Only the left plastics, where your left leg rests, need to be removed. There are a couple hidden screws in the front left wheel well.
I watched both of your videos on this atv mostly because you did a great narration job. I'm not even gonna buy one or any other atv, I just thought it was an interesting problem and was hoping to see you fix it, good luck on finding the fix.
Wow. You are the first I have come across showing in such detail how to remove the plastics. Thank you so much. Can you make one about removing b the battery also?
Just bought my 600 Touring. I rode it for the first time. My shifter is “notchy” as well. I have owned an Artic Cat 500 and a family member has a Polaris 700. The shifting is the same. The Polaris a bit smoother but the lever is like 8 inches long witch, if you understand levers... most likely helps. I almost bought my machine from Two Jacks but didn’t have the color I wanted!
I have a 2021 and have the same issue, it was the worst with the plow on. I'd have to rock back an forth to get it from one gear to another. I've removed the plow at this point and have just over 200 miles on it at this point. It has greatly improved after removing the plow and getting some miles on it. I'd say remove the plow and see if it does the same thing.
great advice Josh. i took off the plow a few weeks ago and got about 10 hours of trail riding since. I haven't noticed an improvement yet but definitely something to look forward to. I will be taking to the dealer if it does not resolve within the 12 months of warrantee.
CF MOTO Made an awesome bike with lots of protection if you ever wanted to be the guy that makes trails. Mows over brush. Love how durable looking they are.
I have a 2020 cfmoto 600s I have had it over a year now and plow with it. I put a shift kit in it and that made shifting and reverse hop almost go away completely. Best investment in my opinion. Plus the clutch engages faster. Only down fall was lose of top speed. Not an issue with me. I trail ride and hills. .
Shift linkage adjustment after it breaks in some.... Maybe mark a line on the top of that linkage rod (this vid @8:50 to 8:54 shows both ends). Then unlock the nuts at both ends one at a time also stabilizing the rod with a wrench on the flats of the rod (likely 8mm) and rotate the linkage rod (top mark turning towards you) maybe a half turn or maybe a full turn. You should not even need to take that much plastic off... Should fix, but at your own risk
Great videos! I just followed the steps to remove the plastic shell and adjust the shiter. It works like a champ! Question: I need to replace my fuel filter. It fell off a week ago. Any help with that while I have the bike torn apart?
I recently purchased a 2022 cf600T, had it out this past weekend. I encountered the same problem. It seemed if i stopped it using the brakes instead of letting the machine stop itself it helped with smooth shifting. It helped but id like to find a fix too!
I also have just purchased my 600 2 months ago I was having the same issue in the very beginning as I broke in the atv it has now basically gone away shift like butter now. Give it some time and kms and I should work it self out!
I have same model just 520, I also rock it front and back for a while now, it is what it is, I managed to make it apper less by adjusting that long rod (shifting rod) it has two 10mm opposite thread nuts, you loosen then and then rotating the rod while you are sitting on the seat you can see how shifting leaver moves front or back depending in which direction you're rotating the rod, just adjust it so it fals in the guide holes with no effort and with no force. That should prevent need for rocking it in most cases. Mine came like this from factory, shifting leaver was hiting the guides preventing it to go to the gear in extreme cases, like when it needs extra power for some work.
Shifting while in a bind is normal when you push in low just try shifting to what ever gear without the brake we have a new one and haven't had a issue yet but all cvt will do this
Just purchased a new 2021 CF moto 400. 10 miles on it so far breaking it in. Does the exact thing. I have to rock it while on it to shift into neutral or park etc. I guess it gets better as you break it in. I hear nothing grinding etc when doing this. So I don't believe there is harm to the machine.
Yeh I think, unfortunately this is how they set the shift mechanism normal from factory. Mine is still good since I adjusted shift linkage. see my fix video
The transmission on these and others are not synchronized as in automotive transmissions , the rocking of the machines is aiding in the alignment of the mating gears allowing a smooth shift . Some makes (Japanese) do not require perfect alignment to be smooth . Excessive idle speed can cause issues such as light grinding of the gears due to not allowing the secondary sheave to completely stop keeping the gears rotating .The idle on fuel injected models is controlled by the computer (ECM) an can not be adjusted , Carburetors can be adjusted .
Just a quick question. Was it necessary to take the right side of the machine plastic off and what is it also necessary to take the top left-hand piece of plastic off to adjust the shifter? It looked like you could get to the shifting linkage without taking the top piece of plastic off. That’s why I’m asking. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.
We have a 2021 CFMOTO touring model that is in the shop right now for a shifting issue. The unit has 30 hours on it and the issue we have is that when we start it it and back it out of garage and put it in low gear from reverse it has ground the gears multiple times when you hit the gas.. Very very annoying on a brand new machine. The dealer accused us of abusing it then realized it was a different CFMOTO they were talking about. The dealer working on it tells us that the factory rep claims to have never heard of any problems about shifting. I have yet to track down this individual and find out more. Any help you can shed on this issue is much appreciated. Thank you
I also experience this same issue. It occurs infrequently but usually in a situation when I had a hard time getting L to engage on the gear shift. I am considering changing the torsion spring for the driven sector gear. Can you let me know what they end up doing to fix it?
The dealer ended up doing what you did in your video adjusting the linkage. The tech told me he was told by cfmoto to set it up where both are equally in the slot in park on one end and low gear on the other end. He said it looked like it was originally really deep in park on one end and not in center on low side. He adjusted them and sent us on our way. So we have hardly put it in low since. I was told that “straight cut gears” is an inherent contributing factor. Can you shed some light on this and possibly elaborate on your comment regarding the torsion spring sector gear etc..? Thank you. Had the machine not been used primarily by an inexperienced rider using it mostly in low gear to learn how to ride it wouldn’t have been nearly as evident so quickly. The way you describe how yours does it occasionally sounds like ours too. Never had a problem running in high gear and we love the machine otherwise. Besides It’s kinda funny watching my 5 ft tall wife trying to rock the machine back in forth to get er in gear. Lol yikes!
Simple shifter linkage adjustment will fix it. Shorten the rod and low will engage fully, and easier. No more grinding (which is quite obviously terrible for the gears)
I am seriously thinking about buying a CFMOTO 500 EPS, Will it have the same problem? As one of the other post said, You have helped lot of people here by doing what you done. You did a Good Video ..

Interesting. I was considering calling the dealer to see if they had any input. I’m a bit stubborn when it comes to letting others fix or service my machines ;). There is a 1 year warranty so if it doesnt go away by the end of the warranty term I will consider taking it.
@@cfmotoman1270 hehe okay, i actually think they do alot of work on the first service. Like adjusting the valves etc. So that service is actually the first time ever i will get a proper service 😅
You shoulda shown how to put it back together 😅 I’m trying to put mine back together and can’t figure out a trick to getting those last two screws in the top
I have the cforce 800 it does the same thing. It has to do with the clutch. When the machine is on a grade it putting pressure on the CVT transmission.
I had a Polaris sportsman do the same thing. I had to shim the pulley that the belt rides on. Belt was riding against pulley putting pressure on the shifter.
I got my 2021 CFMOTO cforce 600 touring in July. I have the same exact problem. I notice sometimes it grinds trying to get into low from high and when it's does, I stop to avoid excessive grinding and everytime I go back into high then back into low,, it goes into low without an issue. Just double shift and it's fine.
also, another thing I realized is that there is a small notch at the top of the gear shift for L. you have to really slam it forward into that top notch before you move it over into the horizontal notch
Great suggestion Lindy, but I did try this and still unable to shift. Someone had suggested I try this method prior to see what happens. It seems others have had some success with adjusting the shift linkage. I may have to make another video. See comment below from Erik Grabowsk as he actually took his to the dealer regarding this problem.
It’s the clutch I bet. Doing the same thing as my 2020 cforce 600 touring. I’m waiting for the primary but I’m pretty sure all I needed was the what is called the overriding clutch. It fits between the two sections of the primary. You can get one for under $200 or replace the entire primary for around $499
@@cfmotoman1270 Thats a good video to have just in case it’s still difficult to shift on a hill after I get the clutch installed. For sure the drive had to be replaced because I had rusty bearings fall on on the center bearing the belt rides on. I’m sure it was most of my problem but I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the video on shift adjustment.👍
Thank you John! As a first time ATV buyer and rider, I have no other major complaints about it. It’s really hard to beat the amount of features you can get at this price point. It rides like a Cadillac and theres alot of room for 2 people. The low rpms seem a bit slow to pick up but for my riding style and usage indications, its what I need. Thanks for watching!
I bought a CFmoto 600 Touring back in July 2020. I have the shifting problem. I have had it in the dealers 5 different times. They have adjusted the idle, change belts, but so far no solution. I have 240 miles on mine now and it is only getting worse. I have tried to rock it, hold the brake, turn it off, etc. no luck. The dealer is telling me that CF Moto is saying that it is normal. There is nothing they can do. I’m not to happy with CFmoto right now. Someone wrote to replace the clutch kit fixes the problem. Please tell me what clutch you are writing about.
Hi Jeff. The only work around I have found is to give the quad a little throttle and at the same time shift when the revs are coming down. If I find a fix for this I will let you know. I am determined!
@@Jeffviola I think they are talking about the kit from this guy. airdamclutches.com/clutches/cfmoto/ From what I understand you can get these parts cheaper from other sources though.
I contacted CFMoto about my shifting issue. They told me to take it back to the dealer and have the dealer contact them. They were able to fix the issue by adding a shim. Now it works perfectly.
I have the same problem on my 850xc, but if i move it forward or backwards it shift smoothly, otherwhise i have to push/pull it like im about to break it.
I meditated on that, but I decided to defer on that for now. I decided to put more hours on it and see if its something that improves/worsens/stays the same over time and will make a decision from there. Sounds like a good idea for an update video in the future. Thanks for watching!
According to dealer the shifting problem can't be fixed and to live with it. I have a 2022 Cforce 600 thats had shifting issues from day 1, when on a incline it will not shift out of gear , running or not, and has left me hanging quite a few times. Dealer is of no help here and the only one within 200 miles of me. Other than that I really like it
Those two screws underneath are almost impossible to put back in, decided to leave them out, and for now it seems like they are without any use … without the screws everything stays in place so I would say, leave them out. If anyone has got a different opinion, please let me know
I just purchased a 2021 cfmoto touring 600 and it does the same thing with the shifter but worse. Only 3 miles on it and the dealer and cfmoto won’t do anything about it. They said that this is the way that it is. But I drove another one and the shifting was fine. I am going to demand a repair, replacement, or my money back. I literally get stuck in gear for 10 to 15 minutes and nothing works to get me out of it. I have tried throttle, rocking, you name it. It also grinds the gears when shifting into low sometimes. Then it will shift normally for a little while and start acting up again. I should have saved my money and purchased another brand. Never had a problem with my old Polaris 700 2up. Wish that I could help you man. We are in the same boat. E
Erik, you just described my issue exactly. I have no contacted my dealer yet but that does not seem like an appropriate response they gave you. Yours definitely sounds worse because I can get mine unstuck with some rocking backwards and forwards. There was one time when I had to get off the machine and push it to a flat area just to shift from low to reverse. Keep me updated on your situation and I shall do the same
These gearboxes are just gears without synchronisators. Also there is no clutch. Brake is only to avoid gear grinding and switching gears while moving. Brake actually makes things worse because it locks pressure on gears. To shift gears need to release any force acting on gears. On hills press brake. To release force from cvt side release throttle. Maybe your engine revs are too high and cvt grabs belt a little?
@@artur8403 the dealer told me to press the brake anytime that I shift so that is what I have been doing. I will give your suggestion a try. On hills it locks ups whether I press the brake or try to shift without braking.
@@artur8403 I have also made sure that I am off the throttle before shifting. I can have the dealer check engine revs. Sometimes when I am in Low or reverse and let off the throttle to come to a stop and shift gears the machine seems like it is going to stall but then catches and doesn’t.
We have no such shit with the plastic cover on the Cforce 1000 all is with plastic thing no skrews at all so strange it is not more the same on all the ATV's actually? Got stuck at sand dunes again, would not shift into reverse again and had to have it drug down the dunes before I could change gears. What a bunch of BS
I had the same problem with my 2019 cf moto 500 2 up. Shifting sucks. Also use to push snow. I broke my shifter. The dealer was like how you broke it. I had so many issues with my quad and it has less than 1,500 km. I wont buy another cf moto. Im buying suzukie king quad next, cause i know it will last me my whole life. This peace of crap cf moto. I dont want to keep driving because im scared of more issues ill have with it.
Your not going to fix that problem, the problem is that these machines are always locked into gear and meshed together under pressure. This is due to the belted CV system clutch is always engaged and not way to dis-engage without rocking it back and fourth to loosen the pressure on the gears. Now if it had a old style standard shift and gear box with a hand clutch then that would solve the problem. Yes I have 2 new 2021 CFMoto Cforce 600's so i know what you mean.
Agreed, I spoke with CFMOTO today and they had no record of the dealer calling to put in a warranty claim or for tech support. I emailed the owner of the dealership and he said that he heard his technician call. Sure pal. I believe you. I asked that it be repaired within a reasonable amount of time, replaced, or my money refunded. He said that they will work with CFMOTO to get it repaired. No replacement or money back. Who knows when I will ever get my machine back.

That's what I think it is. I wish he could respond and say if it worked or not. But yes if it shifting like better when engine off and gets stuck or hard to shifting with engine on defenetly what you said some type of clutch issue or rpm.
My 600 won't shift over 1800rpm so seems to be a high idle that my cfmoto dealer didn't recognize. Turn off, shift and fine every time. Sad fix tbh.
This sounds like a can-can problem. I have a 2010 800 Outlander with the same problem . I've been told it's just the way they are. Just keep on rocking it . Joy.
🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
Ok a little clarification on previous post. The dealer was told by factory rep that they’re not familiar with the exact problem we’re having but did suggest adjusting the shift linkage. We’re gonna pick the machine up this afternoon and see if it’s better. The dealer’s management assures me if the problem continues or gets worse they’ll tear apart the transmission and CFMOTO will cover it. I’ll keep you posted on the status and look forward to hearing your thoughts as well as any other 2021 CFMOTO 600 owners or mechanics. Thank you
I read this comment after replying to your last one. Thats good to hear they thought it was just that. Let me know if you think it fixes it.
I appreciate that!
On flat ground, no issues. Only on an incline this issue occurs. If you happen to takes your to the dealer about it, let me know the outcome!
Excellent video. Great job man. This video is a huge help. 👍
Great Video, I had same problem with electric shift on a Honda forman, had to rock it to shift when plowing, it became a pain in the arse 😁
I trail ride and hills.
.
Hi Robin, can you provide a link to the shift kit?
That sounds promising. How are you liking your 600 so far?
Thats what the dealer guy told me too. Will see
I had issues changing gear on 2014 X8. I found pulling front brake before using rear brake helped.
Glenn, I wonder if your model has that interlocking mechanism from the braking system to you shifter?
I have same model just 520, I also rock it front and back for a while now, it is what it is, I managed to make it apper less by adjusting that long rod (shifting rod) it has two 10mm opposite thread nuts, you loosen then and then rotating the rod while you are sitting on the seat you can see how shifting leaver moves front or back depending in which direction you're rotating the rod, just adjust it so it fals in the guide holes with no effort and with no force. That should prevent need for rocking it in most cases. Mine came like this from factory, shifting leaver was hiting the guides preventing it to go to the gear in extreme cases, like when it needs extra power for some work.
spot on brosef! cheers to the anti rocking life!
Shifting while in a bind is normal when you push in low just try shifting to what ever gear without the brake we have a new one and haven't had a issue yet but all cvt will do this
My new left over 2023 600 touring has 120 kms on it and is on its 3rd shop visit............nice. power steering keeps cutting out
Getting ready to change out the clutch belt. Any videos to make it an easy process

Did the dealer look at this yet. I'm curious on the fix for this and the beeping I keep hearing about. Thanks man. Great vid
fix will be posted this Saturday. stay tuned. video is edited and uploaded.
side by sides do the same thing. In park on a hill or on a rock or something, it will bind up and be very hard to shift out of it
The transmission on these and others are not synchronized as in automotive transmissions , the rocking of the machines is aiding in the alignment of the mating gears allowing a smooth shift .
I have this same problem with my 2020 600 I just let it warm up and it’s shifts gear like butter
I changed the spring and weights in my 2020 600T I had to adjust the shift linkage about a turn shorter.
It’s brand new and under warranty, take it in and have them do it. You risk voiding your warranty.
I am seriously thinking about buying a CFMOTO 500 EPS, Will it have the same problem? As one of the other post said, You have helped lot of people here by doing what you done. You did a Good Video ..
test it at the dealer when you load it up. if it doesnt shift smooth on your ramp, have them adjust it.
@@cfmotoman1270 I'll do that. Thanks!

I heard that they adjust the shifter when you do the first service.
Yup they do fix it on first service.

Interesting comment Jimmy. I hope that isn't my problem. Thank you so much for watching the vid.
I had that problem too. this fixed that
also, another thing I realized is that there is a small notch at the top of the gear shift for L. you have to really slam it forward into that top notch before you move it over into the horizontal notch
what if you take all the bolts out it and the poppers and pull all the plastic from the fuel cell at once it appears that's how it was assembled
It sounds like she's idling too high so it would be a strain on your engine. Because if you shut her off you should be able to put her in gear again
Try bumping the gas throttle to engage the shift . It states that in you manual
Thanks Rene. I’ll give this a try. If it works I will give you full credit at recognizing one of my main weaknesses...Reading the directions 😋
Can you remove the gear shifter knob
It’s the clutch I bet. Doing the same thing as my 2020 cforce 600 touring. I’m waiting for the primary but I’m pretty sure all I needed was the what is called the overriding clutch. It fits between the two sections of the primary. You can get one for under $200 or replace the entire primary for around $499
See my fix video, posted it over a month ago.
Yeah I never put mine in park facing down hill because it will lock up and you can't put it back in gear so I use the parking brake on hills.
Great tip Robert. That should save me some headaches.
Hi! I am from Russia! And I have this problem too!
Hello my friend! This is sad to hear that this problem is worldwide. If you determine a solution, let us know!
Great video! Outside of this issue, how do you like the machine so far?

Did you try to adjust the length of the rod?
I meditated on that, but I decided to defer on that for now. I decided to put more hours on it and see if its something that improves/worsens/stays the same over time and will make a decision from there. Sounds like a good idea for an update video in the future. Thanks for watching!
try shifting to neutral before you half to stop

Bro I'm having the same issue. I have same plow and same issues. I have a year warranty I'm taking it in screw it

Adjust the linkage rod coming off The shifter
According to dealer the shifting problem can't be fixed and to live with it. I have a 2022 Cforce 600 thats had shifting issues from day 1, when on a incline it will not shift out of gear , running or not, and has left me hanging quite a few times. Dealer is of no help here and the only one within 200 miles of me. Other than that I really like it
Those two screws underneath are almost impossible to put back in, decided to leave them out, and for now it seems like they are without any use … without the screws everything stays in place so I would say, leave them out. If anyone has got a different opinion, please let me know
i think you’re fine to leave them out.
Doesn’t that thing have a warranty? It’s pretty new. Let the dealer fix it
it does. If i cant fix it myself I will take it
I never had any issues with mine gues some abused the shifter
Keep me updated on your situation and I shall do the same
@@cfmotoman1270 no problem. I will keep you posted. I am going to call CFMOTO tomorrow to see what they have to say.

I had my buddies Can Am 1000 Max XT and it did the exactly the same thing, this is not unique to CFMOTO

Hahaha. Long live CFMOTO!
My Can Am 570 does the same thing.
Turning the bike off then shifting it works too
Not in this case. I did try this method as suggested by a previous comment. No dice 😕
It has happened to me a couple of times I just do both breaks plus not on inclines even vehicle's have a problem with that
Is it just me or all that plastic and screws unnecessary
Your not going to fix that problem, the problem is that these machines are always locked into gear and meshed together under pressure. This is due to the belted CV system clutch is always engaged and not way to dis-engage without rocking it back and fourth to loosen the pressure on the gears. Now if it had a old style standard shift and gear box with a hand clutch then that would solve the problem. Yes I have 2 new 2021 CFMoto Cforce 600's so i know what you mean.
You may want to see my fix video. It has 100% fixed my shifting issue.
Very cheaply made. As you would say poppers and screws hold this bike together. There is a reason other manufacturers use bolts.
I was waiting on someone to comment on my use of the word poppers. You sir, are the MVP of this comment section.
Yeah that’s not unusual for a machine to be hard to shift with a load on it.
Thanks for watching Michael. It makes me wonder if there will be a true "fix" for this.
