    Hey you guy's, back in the day my buddy had a factory Rxl 340 L.
    He wanted to put lubbers on it so i brought one of my old Mercury Outbaord fuel pumps over ( like off any merc from the 50's to 60's) and took a piece of 1/2 " x 2"x 4" long extruded aluminum and drilled the 3 holes for the pump one 1/8th pipe hole for barb fitting to crankcase pulse hole via a lebght of fuel hose 1/4" .
    Mounted it and run the 2 lines off the top of the pump ( also 1/4pipe ,one to tank and one to Y then to nipples on skid.
    Worked great oh!! Also had a valve to regulate flow. Think it was mounted on hadle bar left sidejust remember ed, my pro boat uses cranckcase pulse and a 5 # check valve plus most use the mercury pressure oil tank for our fuel tank ( methanol )
    Why dont you use that system for pressuringing you oil tank side for skid lube

    • @lynn4205
      @lynn4205 11 місяців тому

      Pressurize your oil tank with the crankcase pulse but use a adjustable Pressurize regulator. My hydro has a barrel with a ball-bearing in it with spring pressure and a bolt for adjusting the pressure.
      Not sure where to find these. Our boats are methanol fuel and most now use the oil tank from a mercury 2 stroke outboard which is 3 gallons. That would illuminate pressure problems

    Well Nutter I can Play along at home now ,I just picked up 2 Colts one is a 74 340ss and one is a 74 175 I believe the 340 is complete and ran last year but now has no spark,and I haven't a clue how to check the points and condensers, have you gone over this in the past?

    • @nuttersspeedshop
      @nuttersspeedshop  11 місяців тому +1

      We covered it on one of the early episodes on Lonnie's Colt. First step, get out your meter and check the external coil and the stator windings. I've also shown that part on an XLT, it's similar except for the values. Get that 1972-1981 service manaul from vintagesnow dot com if you haven't already. All the values are in there. Anyways, if it ohms OK try cleaning the points.

    • @nuttersspeedshop
      @nuttersspeedshop  11 місяців тому +1

      Also first check, unplug the motor from the rest of the sled. Only leave the coil wires hooked up to the stator. If this brings back spark you have a bad switch or pinched wire.

    Its amazing the volume of the center section of the expansion chamber is so huge. Wouldn't have thought a 62mm x 60 stroke ( if i remember correctly on the 650 as it was a 440 with one more cylinder, would have that much exhaust volume.
    Seems like that would slow down the speed of the exhaust. I know the coverging cones sre there to the unburned fuel back thru the exhsust port at supersonic speeds yo reburn.
    And the stinger is a tuning devise for a specific rpm.
    My pipes on my 250 Macminerilli hydro engine have a straight pipe that the chsmber slides on and the pipes are controlled by a cable to a trigger lever in ftont of the deadman's throttle.
    The csrbs are always pulled wide open and your throttle now is the sliding pipes.
    Quite a improvement ftom early days of megsphone exhaust still being used on the Mercury Mod's in hydro and runnabout

      This custom reed induction PSI engine is closer to a 750 cc running 44 mm carbs

    • @lynn4205
      @lynn4205 11 місяців тому

      @@toddclyne3493 now I see.
      Punch out 650.
      Surprised you didn't use Aens pipes. If he's still in buisness.
      The guy that used to port the engine was Pete Nydahl. We raced with Pete's dad back in the 60's when I ran the Alki's. Pete later went on to OPC capsule boats and even had a OMC FORMULA 1 V8.
      His daughter Amy r
      aces in the US Title series now and shows the boys how its done.
      Pete was an excellent teacher and one heck of an old friend.
      Just a little history there for ya Todd.
      I still have my 250 pro boat but due to a horse accident and T 2 harnessed not plus L5 it would be difficult to run 4 laps anymore and they've all gone to European laydown hydros which are much quicker around the turns then my kneeler.

    • @lynn4205
      @lynn4205 11 місяців тому

      @@toddclyne3493 I forgot, that punched out 650 is running 44 's ????
      Wow !
      I found on ebay a oem factory 440 race bottom end case.
      You probably know, the rod slot is closed in and the transfer section is built up for more squeeze.
      I've got 39 keihins on her V Force 3 reeds with 1/4 spacer to bring cages out of block more and expose the 5th port ( booster ).
      Did same for my 250 Mac race engine. Plus whittled on intake track for straighter shot to transfers.
      Did one other thing but don't want to say on here.
      My 250 with and old 1985 Pugh boat ( Gary Pugh )
      And a heavy driver who blew his 350 3 cyl.up and I told him to take my 250.
      He was reluctant but did do it. The 350's couldn't out run him on top end but got him in the turns due to more cc's and low end torque.
      And that was with 12:16 gears which are 350 gears not the 12:15 that the 250 comes with.
      And the prop was way to big for that engine. The guy who's dad originally owned and built the engine ( crankcase out of billit block ) crank from a Koning, and cylinders from the Italian macminerilli 125 shifter karts X 2. Said I'd never pull that prop with my gears. Jon had taken the tip off my good prop and developed a vibration so he came in from 350.
      We out another prop on ,same scenario.
      Stayed with the 350's.
      Then another vibration so he came in. Blade cracked right at the root.
      So I only had this too big of a prop to run.
      They fired me up set the boat back into the water and the little engine round and round and round,finally the rpm's stared tk lesson and I knew I was in for the fasted ride if my life in a hydro ever.
      Came up to the clock too early at the start so I let off the pipes then let off throttle still too close so I pulled the throttle back easy and then the popes and Chris Hellston ( son of the guy who built the engine in his garage on a Bridgeport) who was already wot went into the corner together !
      Then came back infront of me and drowned me with prop wash and the fire went out.
      I would give a hundred bucks to know his thoughts when we went into the first turn together when he could out run his dad Pete ! And Pete's bought was a whole lot light then my old Pugh boat.
      That was the last time I raced but I get a tear in my eyes when I think how I wished Pete was still with us and had this engine on his boat. Chris would never have caught him.
      Have a safe tonight ( 12 31 23. )
      Thanks for your reply Todd.
      Wish I were up there with ya. Hard to run my 3 sleds in my garage here in Florida.
      Although Weatherman plus says chance of snow in Tampa so I'm rushing to get my 2003 Edge with a
      FUSION skid and walker shocks fox dual spring up front with an XCR 800 mill.
      Team clutches. Plus oem Secondaries to gave had ready with different combos of helexis to try.
      Comoplats 1.5 ripsaw.

      I don't know what you are trying to do. If it's a tunnel, Tommy just hit it with fine steel wool and then polish. If it's engine castings find someone with a vapor hone. Or just de-grease and elbow grease.

    The beast is alive!!! Awesome sounding sled guys! Should be a pretty solid performer I would think👍 Just curious about the motor and pipes, has it been modified beyond the standard PSI package? Wonder why the Boswell carbs over Mikuni’s?
    Don’t cut the stingers Tommy, just bend them, shortening the stinger length changes pipe performance

      The Boswell's were on it when I got it from Marv and I have notes from Dan Barkers Prostock. Same engine and carbs. The pipes came from a dumpster. A friend was getting rid of stuff and those were one of my finds. They are not built for the engine, just thought they would work for hilldrags.
