😅 lol love Tommy blowing up the tank. Forgot to say thats what we have to to fir the pro boats i use to run. Back in the 60's my friend ran the chsmpion hot rid engines convereted to Alki. I used to be ghe one to blow the tank up to pre pressureize it so Mason gsve my the nickname -----Champion blower 😅 god bless you Lyle ! Bones out.
Hey you guy's, back in the day my buddy had a factory Rxl 340 L. He wanted to put lubbers on it so i brought one of my old Mercury Outbaord fuel pumps over ( like off any merc from the 50's to 60's) and took a piece of 1/2 " x 2"x 4" long extruded aluminum and drilled the 3 holes for the pump one 1/8th pipe hole for barb fitting to crankcase pulse hole via a lebght of fuel hose 1/4" . Mounted it and run the 2 lines off the top of the pump ( also 1/4pipe ,one to tank and one to Y then to nipples on skid. Worked great oh!! Also had a valve to regulate flow. Think it was mounted on hadle bar left sidejust remember ed, my pro boat uses cranckcase pulse and a 5 # check valve plus most use the mercury pressure oil tank for our fuel tank ( methanol ) Why dont you use that system for pressuringing you oil tank side for skid lube
Pressurize your oil tank with the crankcase pulse but use a adjustable Pressurize regulator. My hydro has a barrel with a ball-bearing in it with spring pressure and a bolt for adjusting the pressure. Not sure where to find these. Our boats are methanol fuel and most now use the oil tank from a mercury 2 stroke outboard which is 3 gallons. That would illuminate pressure problems
Well Nutter I can Play along at home now ,I just picked up 2 Colts one is a 74 340ss and one is a 74 175 I believe the 340 is complete and ran last year but now has no spark, and I haven't a clue how to check the points and condensers, have you gone over this in the past?
We covered it on one of the early episodes on Lonnie's Colt. First step, get out your meter and check the external coil and the stator windings. I've also shown that part on an XLT, it's similar except for the values. Get that 1972-1981 service manaul from vintagesnow dot com if you haven't already. All the values are in there. Anyways, if it ohms OK try cleaning the points.
Also first check, unplug the motor from the rest of the sled. Only leave the coil wires hooked up to the stator. If this brings back spark you have a bad switch or pinched wire.
@@nuttersspeedshop thanks Nutter, I got some pictures from the 74 service manual of the electronics section, I'll check out the colt video again, I thought I'd seen it but didn't pay attention (sorry Nutter ) buy now I will and I thank you very much for your time, happy new year.
Its amazing the volume of the center section of the expansion chamber is so huge. Wouldn't have thought a 62mm x 60 stroke ( if i remember correctly on the 650 as it was a 440 with one more cylinder, would have that much exhaust volume. Seems like that would slow down the speed of the exhaust. I know the coverging cones sre there to the unburned fuel back thru the exhsust port at supersonic speeds yo reburn. And the stinger is a tuning devise for a specific rpm. My pipes on my 250 Macminerilli hydro engine have a straight pipe that the chsmber slides on and the pipes are controlled by a cable to a trigger lever in ftont of the deadman's throttle. The csrbs are always pulled wide open and your throttle now is the sliding pipes. Quite a improvement ftom early days of megsphone exhaust still being used on the Mercury Mod's in hydro and runnabout
